[VIC,NRMA] Skybus 15% off Tickets, e.g. Melb City Express Adult Ticket: Return $34 (RRP $40), One-Way $20.32 (RRP $23.90) @ NRMA

310

Quick 15% off SkyBus - Melb City Express. Works both ways.

You'll need a free year of NRMA Blue for this deal, and other bonuses. I like the Sushi hub and Gelatissimo deals (Gelatissimo used to be multi-use, but now only single use).

The NRMA app also shows Hobart Skybus discounts as well.

No mention of an expiry for the NRMA deal (although the Skybus tickets only last 3 months from purchase)

2024 and still a pain visiting Melbs Airport.

    • Don't worry, at least 20 more years to go. lol

      • Haha “outrageous” $7.30 for the train or $20 to be on a bus in traffic get a grip

      • Ahahahahahaha bro!! What are you thinking when you compared Sydney convenience to your Melbourne? 🤣🤣🤣

  • -6

Uber would be much cheaper than this

    • +3

      Uber cheaper than $36 return?

      • If you have 4 passengers in the Uber it most probably will be

        • +1

So I just round up 3 strangers, each way?

    • A 30KM uber trip will be 70 bucks.
      DIDI is around 15% cheaper

  • +2

Average trip time takes approximately 30 minutes. During peak times (approximately 6am-10am and 3pm-7pm), please allow around 45 minutes travel time

    From southern cross station

  • Any discounts for Avalon express?

    • +1

Sadly none I could see on the website or app. Just Tullamarine, and Hobart

  • +2

Myki. Much cheaper, if you don't value your time.

Yes, a few hacks to reduce the cost. I wish Vic would just get an airport tram or train line and be done with it. For now - it'll have to be skybus

      • Why what's the hack?

I always thought it'd be uber to the closest train station, then transit to where ever your destination is (in my case, SE suburbs)

        • Train to broady then 901 bus to the airport, drops you off near T4. 2 hour myki fare.
If coming on the sunbury line, then train to sunbury and 479 bus to the airport.

        • +1

Khartoum posted it below. $5 all up

      • I wish Vic would just get an airport tram or train line

I don't really care - are you still keen if it costs $15+ each trip? I'd rather public transport be added or improved in areas where people actually live and travel around every day, rather than catering for tourists on their irregular trips. Even though it would occasionally benefit me personally more than, say, a line to Whittlesea or Point Cook.

If some housing was added further out so the airport station is just one section on the way to something then it makes a lot more sense (ala SYD). I've not yet seen any proposal along those lines though.

I just wanted to post a deal, mate

          • +1

@dangerdanger: And it's a decent find, but the real deal is doing the Broady-901 combo on Christmas Day then coming back on NYE for a total of $0 each way.

I've literally had two drinks tonight and just bought tickets that expire 5 days before our trip, plus I'm actually flying to Avalon. Bit of a lightweight.

  • +3

It's so ridiculous that the digital tickets have a 3 month expiry.

Should be a year or more.

    Bloody scam as is tradition

Come to Perth, we have a train station right in front of the International / Domestic airport.

Melbourne need to lift their game up.

    • Not as easy of course, but Tullarmarine you can take a bus to Broadmeadows station, then train to the City. Pretty simple, just takes more time.

    • Plus no airport surcharge; was very impressed when I used it last year

  • Does anyone know if the return ticket can be used for 2 passengers travelling one way together by any chance?

    • The ticket QR code can only be used once per trip. You probably can't use a return ticket for 2 people, on the same trip.

But return = just two one-way tickets, used in any direction. You could use the return ticket like this :
      - Monday Airport-to-CBD
      - Tuesday Airport-to-CBD

The bus stop for the 420 bus is right next to the jetstar domestic terminal, take the bus from there with myki to Broadmeadows train station, then the train into the city. Will take you an hour though, but it costs $5 all up

    • Unless your final destination is the Southern Cross bus terminal, it's reasonable to add a transfer time to the end of the SkyBus IMO, which makes the train more competitive on time. There's many more route options especially if you're staying on that side of the city, and possibly faster transfers to all other train lines depending on the timetables.

Once the Metro Tunnel opens, the Broadmeadows option is a no-brainer for me if you're going to the Caulfield lines and can carry your bag for the transfers.

Maybe SkyBus will eventually evolve with some more flexible options, like Richmond or Norht Melbourne stations, or even heading along some freeways into the suburbs - it seems that'd be properly competitive for a lot more people than always going right into the side of the CBD

Man just before COVID they had extended to skybus routes to include box hill and Ringwood and other places.

That was actually worth while, get dropped at box hill and 1 single vehicle all the way to the airport.

But they cancelled it, honestly I travel a bit and I'm so sick of giving money to them.

        • Absolutely. Surely the biggest advantage for the bus is that you can send it almost anywhere, yet they only travel to a single terminus which isn't really anyone's final destination?

Assuming the airport itself has the biggest say in SkyBus operations, maybe they just don't want a good option to compete with taxis and Uber where they can charge higher access fees for a more convenient service?
