Damn, those some good prices return!

I'm sticking to my biz class redemption for now out of Singapore, but makes me wonder why bother with the hassle of points when can just slum it out in economy for similar pricing :/

    • +2

      Its One way doomt

    • +8

This is one way and don’t forget this is a budget airline. On such a long flight, you can’t possibly carry enough food and water. You even have to pay to charge your device for entertainment. And once you add checked in luggage (if needed) it might still be cheap but probably not that much cheaper than a full service airline.

      • +4

        Bring powerbanks

        • +8

Ok.. also bring a pillow and a blanket because you will need those too.
This is an ultra long haul flight. If I can’t afford to pay ~$300 more to have a comfortable flight, I’d rather stay home or go to Asia.

      • +1

        Still way cheaper.

      • +2

Fair point now that you put it that way actually. I'll stick to points then :)

      • +1

I've done longer flights on Scoot (Singapore to Berlin and back), it was fine. Took 1L of water, a few muesli bars and ate before I went and it was fine. You don't really do anything on a plane apart from sleep and watch a movie.

Biggest issue is you get bored, but I get bored on full service airlines too. Was nice not getting interrupted by the staff though.

  • +6

how much is it to fly back?

  • +5

    Nice table.
Almost 200 days per table and for SYD and MEL there are very few under $600.
The "special" fares are all in the last week of the table.

  • Cheers I'll take 3

  • +3

Bit misleading though….baggage is like $300 lol

    • +3

Nope! Buy Zero luggage on OT website then go to Scoot manage booking and add there. 60% cheaper. Thanks me later

      • +3

        OT?

        • -7

          OTA bruhh

          • +3

@AnyFurtherDiscount: break this down into noob steps no one knows wtf you talking about, or dont tickle me nuts about a bargain

          • +1

            @AnyFurtherDiscount: What's the OTA website?

            • +1

@snoopydoop: OTA stands for Online Travel Agency

It's the website you buying the tix. For examples, Aunt Betty or Gotogate trip.com

After you buying, received the airlines reference number. Go to the airlines you flying, select manage booking then follow the prompts to purchase luggage/food and beverage/blanket or wifi as well as select your seats. Paid and confirmed/

  • +6

In my mind the value of Scoot is that the one way fares aren't 80% of the return fare. Means you can fly from Aust to Vienna, work your way down to Athens, and fly home from there without paying a silly premium or having to double back to Vienna.

In a lot of the other circumstances the return prices aren't far enough below a full service airline's sale price for me to sacrifice the legroom, food, and beers.

    • +1

are you talking about open jaw itineraries? (leave from A, arrive at B and depart from C to return to A). Vienna + Athens may work well for scoot but I often still get cheap flights on full-service airlines for open jaw itineraries. Just have to find an airline that does both the destinations you want. All my Europe trips have been open jaw for $1500 or less return.

      • Yep, good if you can find them elsewhere but not all airlines are willing to offer it on sale fares etc.

  • -1

Not too bad if you take a stopover in Singapore. Singapore to Vienna 13 hours.

  • Do i need to bring my own seat?

  • +2

I did it one time Perth to Berlin… Paid for bulkhead as well… Was still rough lol and the plane is filthy

  • +1

    @AustriaBargain

  • +5

No deal - ridiculous prices for add ons. I checked directly on Scoot website as well. Only very few dates available for $498 one way ex Sydney. Once you add baggage ($147 for 20kg), meals and seats its around $700 one way. Better to wait for SIA or other full service airlines at this point which is around the same price point return (when on sales). This is only good if you don't need luggage, preferred seats or meals.

    • +2

Agreed. Better to book with one of the Chinese airlines that include baggage and meals.
Layover times are probably even better than the Scoot timings too.

    • Eh, I travel not that light, and a big backpacker rucksack is allowed as carryon. Just bring a few less tshirts so it's under the weight, eat Hungry Jacks before the flight, and I'm pretty sure they'll let you sit in a seat without paying extra.

    • Still okay if you're dashing over for 3 days for a wedding or something

  • +3

Great prices. Probably going to spend that one way price on your first two days in Vienna though.

  • What happened to the good old days of Sydney to Manila for $141 return? The days of cheap travel are over. It costs $240 return from Adelaide to the Gold Coast now 😭

  • I prefer clean aircraft and a touch of class, thanks.

Instead, for about $1.550 go to Vienna or Prague via Taipei on full service China Airlines - note it's Taiwanese, not Chinese.

The enforced 17 hr layovers in Taipei are a trip feature because the hotels, transport and food are cheap and good. The people are nice too.

  • +1

Flying a cheap airline to an expensive place doesn't make sense. Vienna isn't a city for budget conscious mass market tourists. Better to fly direct via another carrier for a bit more, or into Frankfurt etc. and take the train.

  • Ahhh Vienna

  • Not happy with the stop over time in Singapore (as it is during the day; can’t really book a hotel when you arrive at 5am and fly out of 3am) back to Sydney.

Maybe worth booking the return leg to Melbourne. And fly to Sydney with someone else.

    • A full day of partying and no need to pay for accomodation

      • Where do you party during the day at Singapore? 😅

  • Where are the chinese airlines??? Price war needed

  • Baggage cost always kills Scoot deals for me.

China Southern seem to be the cheapest Return to Europe for almost every date I've looked at, 46kg baggage and they don't charge crazy prices to pick a seat like almost all the other airlines.

I'd prefer to go via Singapore, but for a saving of $500, it's worth it.

  • flight to Singapore once and the seats was really bad… can not imagine to fly 8+12 hours with that product.
