Has anyone managed to unlock this for free?
I have several Optus nos. I think you can only do 1 free unlock per number (if it meets the requirements). I tried twice with the same number, first time was free, second time would have cost $25, so I used a different number.
How did you unlock it for free(for the first one), can you pls share the details/method? Thanks
I just used the amaysim sim I already had (it was one of the discounted ones in woolworths that I had bought nearly a month ago), then used the 9999 menu process (text menu to 9999 and follow the prompts) and it was a $0 unlock.
I then tried it again on another phone with the same sim, but it wanted to charge me $25, so I just used a data sim I have with optus instead, and that worked for $0 too.
Most of my numbers are through Optus or a reseller, so I had to really dig around to find a boost sim in order to make the phone prompt for the unlock code.@Fybre: Thank you so much. I have several amaysim numbers all of which have no credits but I just successfully unlocked the device for free using 1 of those numbers.
Will use other numbers to unlock the other 2 phones when they arrive.
@Fybre: I unlocked using Optus site. Only allowed one free unlock per amaysim phone number tho. After the first free one it wanted $25.

@minal0211: I don't think you can because it needs a non Optus SIM inserted to the phone to prompt the unlock code mode.
@minal0211: No, code needs to be entered into the phone.
Just supply the unlock code on a piece of paper or in a card.
@deal-cracker: A non optus sim to get the unlock dialog, so if coles is Optus it probably wont ask for unlock code.

I followed the 9999 prompts and got my unlock code, long number starting with 9.
Am I supposed to do something with that number to unlock the phone? Or is the phone now unlocked?

Appears not, 9999'd all 3 and found unkock codes for all 3, 9999'd my main phone and it said not locked with Optus.

Anyone had any luck unlocking the bootloader? I can get into fastboot and recovery, but oem unlock doesn't seem to work even with the OEM unlock toggled on from within Developer options

Good luck. I've been able to patch the boot.img but can't do anything with it until bootloader is unlocked. I'm thinking that's going to be a big issue
Any luck? I'm investigating a possible way, it requires a Linux distro though. I'm in the process of setting things up but hopefully will find out if it's successful tonight.
Sadly the bootloader can't be unlocked with this phone.
They must be using custom private keys, not the default one. We need that key to unlock the bootloader.also on the same road. I didn't realise it was going to be an issue!

I bought one of those covers in black from my link above & it's a great fit. Makes the phone look better & adds a bit of grip.
I'm kind of surprised how decent it is. Looking at the benchmarks I thought it would be absolute garbage for the basic tasks.
Youtube, web browsing, general responsiveness is pretty ok.

My tracking has been stuck since last Friday at the in transit to next facility. ETA was meant to be on Monday but no movement at all
Sounds like Amaysim have dispatched it and AU Post are having a delay in processing/transportation or a delay in scanning the tracking data at the next location.
Nope, confirmed with them and apparently it has been returned to sender hence why no movement
Interesting. I have the same problem. I called StarTrack and the operator said the driver could not find my address. When I asked why she said driver could not find my house number. Not sure what's going on there as I live in a quiet street and get deliveries from StarTrack all the time.

No, once the unlock code is recieved, phone is still locked until the code is inputted to the phone itself.
Ahh yes. Well I’ve saved the codes and stuck them on the box. Will unlock when ready to open.
How did you get unlock codes without opening phones
@easternculture: You only need an amaysim number and the phone’s IMEI (located on the sticker on the top of the box) to get the unlock code.
FREE UNLOCK Just received the phone today, and got it unlocked for free through Optus.
Steps:
- Insert amaysim sim and setup the phone (other optus sims may works too)
- Go to Optus Device unlock page
- Enter amaysim phone number
- Enter IMEI of phone
- Shows $0 fee
- Go next and it will sms the code on the number and also show you unlock code on screen
- Insert non optus sim in phone, and enter unlock code.
NOTE: You may be able to get unlock code without opening the box. But to unlock the phone, u need to insert non-optus sim in phone and enter that code.

From my experience it has been 1 free unlock per number. Doesn't appear to be Amaysim only, just having an Optus no worked for me.

Arrived today. No luck with Optus website to get unlock code.
Texted unlock to 9999 and unlocked it that way.Received the phone yesterday. Turn it on and after play around for a while, I put it back in the box and pack away. It can be lend to an overseas relative later if their phone got blocked with our crappy Telcos.
Can anyone tell me whether this actually contains an Optus Prepaid SIM like it says on the phone's box? (in addition to the amaysim SIM starter pack that is included in the package). Thanks!!
The X Pro has the Optus Pre-paid Sim labeled on the box (says recharge required), while the X Sight does not. Both of them came with a $2 Amaysim Sim card.
Thanks. Is there actually an Optus SIM card in the sealed box though? I was thinking that amaysim might remove the Optus SIM before shrink wrapping, and I want to find out without opening it.
Just checked mine and it did not come with a Optus SIM. Only the Amaysim $2 starter pack which was in its own card in the delivery box, but outside of the phone box.
Finally got mine delivered. Surprisingly an 'ok' phone. I did have to do an update to it though as the Play Store kept crashing. There was 2 System Updates that it went through. After that seemed to work fine. Havent tried to unlock it yet as I do not have a SIM card that uses a different network to Optus.
Just need an optus sim to get the unlock code (can be done on any phone) and then a non-optus sim in the optus x pro to enter the unlock code.

They block during the last step ie payment. I believe it's based on name and DOB.
