Citi Prestige Credit Card: 250,000 Citi Rewards Points ($10,000 Spend in 90 Days), 6 Months 0% Interest BT, $700 Annual Fee

630

I was looking for this deal on ozbargain, saw it was marked as expired, but actually it's active again.

Copying from last deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/866040

Same points bonus 250,000.

Key Points:
$700 annual fee
250,000 Citi Rewards Points when you spend $10,000 on eligible purchases within 90 days from approval.
Points redeemable for $1,250 in FlyBuys Dollars, $550 profit after annual fee.
$20,000 minimum credit limit, $100,000 maximum - although I applied for the max limit possible and was approved for the minimum, exactly $20,000 limit and told I can't apply for higher until 6 months in. Unsure if this was normal practice with Citi or specifically with me.
6 months interest free on balance transfers made within the first three months from approval (up to 80% of credit limit) with no balance transfer fee.

The $10,000 minimum spend can be met via Citi PayAll to yourself (for 0.95% fee).

Even with the reduced bonus points and erosion of other benefits over time I think this is still one of the best cards on offer at the moment:

bonus points yield $1,250 in FlyBuys Dollars (I normally buy 4% off Coles gift cards with a rewards card - ~1% extra value - so I value at 0.95 x $1,250 = $1,187.50)

The balance transfer can go into a bank account or mortgage offset so one could do this on activation and then 85-90 days in to get another 6 months of interest free (as the interest free period counts from the date of transfer when this is done within the first 3 months). on a 20k limit, an initial balance transfer of 80% ($16,000) with minimum repayments of 2% (and then restarting 3 months in) yields an average balance of around $15,000 over the nine months. In a mortgage offset of 6% this will save 9/12 x 0.06 x 15,000 = $675 in interest. In a savings account at 5.5% interest this yields $618.75 (before tax).

Using the mortgage example, with an annual fee of $795 (including PayAll fee) and main benefits of $1,862.50 this nets out to $1,067.50 which I think is pretty great for just one card. Plus premium benefits like unlimited priority pass, $100 Uber credit etc.

Keeping in mind if you can get a hold of a higher credit limit this becomes far more lucrative.

  • Will this offer apply if i have NAB credit card already?, or have closed in last 12 months?

    • It should not matter.

  • How long after you do the 7k payall are the points usually given by Citi

  • Anyway to make the payall transaction happen instantly, I can only set it 2 weeks ion advance?

  • How long does payall take to go through?

Also I discovered that you get 3gb free 15 days with flexiroam. Wait to activate though as expires within 3 months so only activate if you are within those 3 months. It’s worldwide. You also get 15% discount.

    • How do you access / sign up for this free 3gb ?

      • Go to flexiroam and enter citi details. Note that it must be activated within 2 months and also it doesn't seem to be transferable (the 2 months is for sure, the transferable I need to double check)

        • -1

So does this work with my current pay monthly optus sim?

          • @cathalm8: lolwut it is a deal with flexiroam. You cannot just get 3gb from any provider for free

            • -1

@CodeXD: Yeah I have no idea what flexiroam is though? So you get 3gb free but you need to get an esim from felxiroam?

              • +1

                @cathalm8:

Yeah I have no idea what flexiroam is though?

                First thing fozzie said is

                Go to flexiroam

They already have all the details there lol

    • Wow, I was not aware of this benefit. I though only 28degrees card offers this. Cannot see the offer anywhere or maybe I missed it somewhere.

  • @greenslade OP
Are you sure PayAll count towards the minimum spend?
I had a call with citi and they said PayAll doesn’t count towards minimum spend.

/Eligible purchases exclude Citi PayAll Payments, Cash Advances, Balance Transfers, Special Promotions, interest, fees, refunds and Chargebacks./

    • /Eligible purchases exclude Citi PayAll Payments, Cash Advances, Balance Transfers, Special Promotions, interest, fees, refunds and Chargebacks./

This is referring to different Citi Qantas there is some difference on Eligible purchases.

      • Oh, you’re right, this card doesn’t have that mentioned in TnC.

Probably I Should call citi and confirm. I had called them for citi qantas.

  • Application rejected, despite meeting mimumum income

  • < Interest free period
The interest free period applies when you pay your full closing balance from your last statement of account by the payment due date (excluding any Fixed Payment Option balance which isn’t due for payment by that payment due date). No interest free period is available on Cash Advances or Balance Transfers. Whilst you have a Balance Transfer you will be charged interest on your daily unpaid balance.

    Citi tnc.
While having balance transfer, card will be charge interest on daily retail spending.
Interest only shows at the statement date.

  • Will I be eligible for this if I already have a Citi Premier card?

    • Yes, subject to their approval, of course.

  • +1

Okay so I got approved for 58500 but at the time of application, I said I didn't want BT because you had to put in how much and where to transfer to. Is that going to cause a problem when I actually want to BT?

    • +1

Never let them pick the maximum credit limit for you. Ties you up so makes it harder for you to get other cards.

      • +2

Well yeah. I made that mistake but at least can I not get the maximum benefits off BT? Can I ask them to lower credit limit as well?

        • Wow that credit limit is insane. Definitely will lock you out of other cc is you don’t lower it.

          • @nightelves: Yeah but since it has a large credit limit, I think I will BT 80% for shorter period and close it after like 3-4 months OR lower credit limit to just 20000 if I really like the card and want to hold it for longer. Thankfully, I am done with CC churn for the next 3 months due to this card being 4th CC.

            • @lyoo01: That BT value will be amazing. I wonder if you could lower the credit limit after the 80% BT (reducing it by approx 11k) to help with serviceability if you want to churn other cards at the same time.

              • +1

@dealstacker: Yeah, it's incredible. I will now get 6 months free on 46800 :) That's an interest saving of $1404 based on 6%. I will close it after this period ends so around late May. Only downside is that I am now too afraid to apply for another credit cards because I will most likely be rejected.

I am not sure if they will allow me to reduce my balance but I am not too bothered as I think I am done with credit card churning for now anyway as I tend to apply for 5-6 cards at the same time.

    • +1

Did you get a BT sorted?

      • yep

        • +1

Did you give them a call? I'm in the same boat.

Didn't want any extra loops of BT on application, bit now would like it.

          • @Mrgreenz: Yep. I gave them a call to manually undertake it. I did it as soon as I got the card

  • +1

Crap, just got email from Citi that they no longer do Payall from 20/1/25 onwards. No more free points

    • Yeah got the same message as well. Guess they were losing a lot of money from it and finally woke up and did something.

      • Yeah, will try to redeem the points prior to cancelling the card closer to anniversary date.

just got an email from Citi that payall will be no longer offered from Jan 2025

  • Why is everyone so caught up on Payall though? For most people who didn't sign up during 0 fee promotion, it still costs like 2% ish. Is this because people want to just get the points as soon as possible and Payall is the best way to go about it?

    • +2

I think most people did sign up during the no fee promotion and had their payall scheduled for next 10 years.

Payall fee is actually 0.95% and you can instantly meet the 10k spend limit to get bonus points.

    • Check your facts again before making a claim that it cost 2% ish in fees for Citi Payall.

      • Sorry about that. Yep, I stand corrected. I made one Citi Payall transaction last year so it has been a while since I last did it. 0.95% is still however a decent amount of transaction fee that I don't have to incur.

        • The fees are cheaper than what you pay at many restaurant establishment, body corp fees, utility bills, some council rates. On top of that you're earning 10k rewards points which converts to 7519 flybuys points which is equivalent to $37.50.

So at the end of the day your outlay is $52.50 in fees. In addition you can qualify for bonus points a lot quicker than if you had to wait to gather up enough to meet the minimum spend.

          • +2

@nightelves: cheaper ways to generate the spend. book your dream trip (fully refundable of course) then have a different dream once the bonus points hit and get a refund.

i do this the day i get the card every time never an issue.

  • Dang, was thinking apply for this card next month to do some Xmas shopping + PayAll .

  • +1

FYI, Payall exclusion has also been added to this card.

    • -1

This is what kills me. I just signed up and was going to do a Payall to get my points. And I've used the card for a few small random transactions. So now I'll get charged $700 for nothing. Unbelievable.

      • for nothing? you still get the sign up points ($1200 worth) and unlimited prestige pass for a year.

If you're not going to be able to hit the spend, go to expedia, search for fully refundable accommodation, book enough to hit it then cancel once you get the bonus points. i normally add the card to paypal then pay via paypal.

        • That's smart idea.
can you withdraw to a different bank account from PayPal or have to use it as PayPal balance for future purchases?

          • @VQLD: it's refunded back to the original card. if you close a card with a cred balance though they will just send it to a bank account

  • +1

payall no longer count towards spending requirement as per T&C.

    • And for those that were approved prior to the change?

      • +1

I'd assume those that met the requirement using payall prior to the change would be eligible but have to confirm with Citi. I asked when the T&C was changed to exclude payll from eligible transaction and chat didn't know. Chat person did raise a case to their product team to verify this. hope they get back to me.

  • Anyone have a screen of the T&C prior ot the Payall exclusion being added for the $10k spend criteria.

  • +3

I just got off the phone with Citi. The service officer said that the change in terms and conditions was placed there when they sent out the email (20 November for me) that PayAll is ending 20 January 2025.

It is to prevent anyone applying for the card that has the intention to use this method of payment, as it can take a while for card approval, and even longer to setup and receive the PayAll transfer.

I claimed that term wasn’t there when I applied. The service officer read out the terms and conditions to me and said PayAll IS eligible for the 250,000 bonus points.

scroll to the bottom —> click show more —> look at 1. Bonus Citi reward Points section —> click the link (https://www.citibank.com.au/global_docs/pdf/MCG12231_1014.pd…) —> see page 5 for eligible transactions second dot point “Any Citi PayAll Payments”

Save this pdf to your phone/computer for reference

So if you don’t have a card, you’re probably too late. But if you already have a card you should be fine.

Call to double check for reassurance, get a note written on your account, and record the service officers name and call date.

    • Thanks so much for the info, I was approved for the card yesterday morning. You think there's enough time?

      • You might be ok as the terms and conditions pdf state that it’s fine. But I’d definitely call to double check. If they say no then cancel the card and make sure you won’t be charged the $700

        • I have the premier so only $150, but just not sure I'll hit 7k min spend without payall

          • @Phesto: That’s not too much of a loss then, but would be disappointing if they don’t approve it for you.

I definitely wouldn’t have met the 10k min. I have 2 other cards as well so I was panicking haha

      • Application before the changes should be good.

    • Legend, thank you

  • Can anyone help me.

When you are sending the money to yourself via payall what do you put for the name part? Just a random name or?

    • Put poorman they'll never know it is you

      • Sounds fitting haha cheers.

      • What about remarks? At the end? Just write anything?

        • troll them, put down 'rent'

    • Make up a random name. My remarks/reference in my payall is "tax"

  • has anyone tried to open another Prestige card while still using one? on the same name

    • Never dare try with the Prestige but had successful applied for Premier card few times while holding the FFL Premier card.

  • Where are people getting the information that PayAll is now excluded as an eligible transaction for the purposes of meeting the $10,000 spend?

    I go to:
    https://www1.citibank.com.au/credit-cards/citi-prestige

Click on the link that says "Eligible Transactions"
    Pop-up then says:
    Eligible Transaction is defined in the Citi Rewards Program Terms and Conditions and means;
any purchase excluding … ; or
any Citi PayAll Payments (for Domestic Spend only, International Spend is excluded)

The PDF for the Citi Rewards Progam Terms and Conditions is no different.

When you go to the PayAll FAQ:
    https://www1.citibank.com.au/offers-benefits/PayAll1

When is the last day I can set up a new Citi PayAll payment?

The last day that you can set up a new Citi PayAll payment is 9 January 2025. You will need to ensure that the Citi PayAll payment due date is on or before 19 January 2025. Any Citi PayAll payments with a payment due date on or after 20 January 2025 will not be processed.

Please note that for any Citi PayAll payments, a fee of 0.95% will apply.

So realistically you should be able to get a card within the month and setup PayAll before it ends… just gotta be quick?

    • Answered my own question:

      https://www.cdn.citibank.com/v1/augcb/cbol/files/MCG17861-10…

      These changes are effective on
      20 January 2025.

      Current Words
Eligible Transaction means… • any Citi PayAll Payments,
      Replacement Words
The second bullet point “• any Citi PayAll Payments,” is deleted from this definition.
      • I called them and spoke to a supervisor about the conflicting information - they didn't budge and still pointed out to the main website that payall is excluded. Bummer

        • +1

Well from my point of view the documentation is clear.

In any case I received my card and activated around ~19 Dec and promptly set up a PayAll. It was scheduled for 31 Dec but somehow it got processed yesterday 27 Dec. Just got an email with my monthly statement and stomach dropped because I would have to wait another month to see if PayAll would earn bonus points. Opened it to see the PayAll went through and 260,000 bonus points. So to confirm PayAll still counts as an eligible transaction, as per the current T&Cs.

  • I just got off the online chat with them, and they said payall was never considered as eligible transactions for the bonus points since they published the offer Aug 2024.. ?

Has anyone signed up the card after Aug 2024 and managed the get the bonus points via pay all?

  • Do you get the 250k of points instantly after meeting the criteria of the 10k spend or 90 days after activation?

    • Neither, because the bonus points are awarded on the first statement date after you've completed the required spend.

  • +2

Just did the BT, took all of 12 mins including time on hold.

    • They asked for a bpay number for my bank transfer. Admittedly I panicked. Do you specifically ask for a bsb transfer ?

      • Why panic for no reason? Isn't that the ideal way to have they deposit money in you bank account instead into your credit card when BT?

      • Yes transfer to an account, provide them with your BSB an account.

    dear frens,

Just sharing this here since I know NAB has been cracking down on annual fee refunds. I managed to get a pro-rata refund on my annual fee from Citi today. Like someone else suggested, I was super polite and sweet. I asked if a refund was possible before confirming the account closure, and the rep immediately said yes!

That said… based on my calculations, I should’ve been charged for 5 months, but she only charged me for 2. It seemed like a very manual process (I could actually hear her counting the weeks I’ve had the card), so I’m guessing she made a mistake somewhere. Either way, she confirmed the refund amount and said it’d come via cheque, so I’m not complaining!
