The toner cartridges are still expensive. I have this printer. Its good but cuts out and becomes unavailable and reprints pages.

    • I buy after market cartridges for my brother HL-12395DW. Is this not an option with this printer?
Just need to swap the chip which takes 2 seconds to do otherwise printer doesn't recognise them

      • Any videos on this?

      • There are non genuine toners for this printer but they cost $20+/1000 pages.. Dunno why so expensive.. Maybe it's a new format or needs hacked chips or something.

Sorry but no scanner is not good for a home printer.

    • +2

      There’s an app for that.

    • +2

My printer has a scanner, used it maybe 2 times in 5 years, wish I had saved $50 and got one without.

    • +1

All modern smart phones are scanners now.

      • Anyone tested the quality difference between a decent phone camera / app and a standard MF printer scanner, in both documents and colour photos?

    • Been eyeing off this one with a scanner as I'd use that more than the printer.

      • Not bad. There is also this model. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/767648

      • That model (re: whatisk) doesn't seem to have duplex scanning, let along 'single pass' duplex scanning.. highly recommend these two features if you wish to scan both sides of things

        • For that you need a sheet feeder. And I would recommend it too, if you're doing a lot of scanning. But for a compact model that you wanted this is a good compromise.

        • TBH I've never had one with duplex scanning so is not something I've missed. I rarely scan large documents so have not felt the need for it.

        • What cheaper mono lasers aimed more towards home/small office have duplex scanning? Either automatic or single pass flipping the pages?

      • whatisk 3rd party toner is $50++ on ebay

    • agree if you scan alot, app is troublesome if scanning 30 pages

  • what is good brinter that doesn't take up any room?

    • +3

      A virtual brinter.

      • +1

        Aren't all brinters virtual?

    • +2

are you egyption? Brinter? Za brinter Is Bending Bickup

    negging because "it's a trap"

even non-oem toners will cost you approx $25/1000 prints (TN-2530XL @ inkstation)

compare this to my brother 2270DW which costs approx $6.60/1000 prints (TN-2250 @ instation)

$25 generic for 1000 prints??? that's like inkjet prices.. or worse??

big thank you to voteoften above who clued me onto this.

    • Just a math correction. It’s about $20-50 for a few hundred prints on an inkjet, so $25/1000 is still a big improvement.

But definitely not as good as some laser refills ($20 might get you 3000-5000 pages)

    • I prefer laser as I don't print much. With a laser when I go to print I know it will. No need to worry about ink drying out, etc.

      • I only compared it to inkjet bc typically laser is much cheaper to run..but in this case it costs approx double

  • all i need is a mono laser printer,
    1. with dual side auto printing,
    2. and scanner built in,
    3. and cheap generic ink
    4. wifi connectivity
and willing to pay up to $200 for it. can someone recommend one in that range?

    • go to officework website search brother laser printer and go through one that fit yours . not many you should be able to find one quickly

      • Brother no longer allows generic toner after recent firmware updates. Even older printer models are affected unless you block updates.

        • ahhhh really i still have older one with $12 generic toner.
duh come on god of aliexpress please crack the brothers

      • so it does not exist? what i want probably does not exist or maybe i have to pay more

  • Just a heads up to consider looking on marketplace before pulling the trigger on another printer. A lot of offices that have multiple printer units have moved / closed / changed their hardware in recent months and you might be able to snag a bargain. I bought 1 of 3 HL-2270s from a dentists office near me almost a decade ago now and it's still going.

    No scanner.

    • I don't see where you've written a good reason for negging the deal though? Just because it doesn't have a scanner isn't a good reason. That's like negging a deal on a car because it doesnt come with a towbar.

      • When it costs me 10c to print at Officeworks, I don't mind paying 2.5c for using my own printer. Officeworks charges 25c to do a scan (what a scam)

    • +2

here here, I'm also negging this deal because the printer is not colour.

  • Damnit. I literally bought this on the weekend to print out a medical certiciate and now it goes on sale.
