Nice. However I’d recommend something that has feed scanner with duplex scanning. I think L2740, 50 and 59 would be great value when on offer.

I've got this exact model and never felt the lack of a feeder to be a problem. When I did my research more than two years ago there were some reports the doc feeder on the MFC-L2750dw (which was the only other one available at the time) tended to skew as it pulled paper in. Depends on how many documents you plan to scan, really, but if you have a lot then I'd suggest doing research to find something with a better doc feeder.

MFC-L2750dw tended to skew as it pulled paper in.

I've had one for 3-ish years now. It skewed documents a bit at first, enough to be noticeable but not enough to be an issue (scans skewed by 1-2 cm in the corner, so margins would mean you still get all information on page).

I've since learned that if I snug up the paper guides after inserting a stack of papers in to the feeder, it almost completely eliminates the problem. Worth it for the price and having duplex feeder scanning.

Couldn't agree more. I've had an MFC-L2750dw for several years. Cost about $230 on sale and hasn't missed a beat. I also have a colour Canon inkjet, but find that 95% of what I want to print is fine in b/w on the Brother, and it keeps everything simple.

The dual scanners mean that the feeder is also kept simple with no need to manipulate paper. I've fed thousands of double sided A4 pages through (up to around 30 at a time) with minimal problems. I fixed the skewing by just chocking up the edge of the guide to stop it creeping out as multiple sheets feed through.

The print quality is more than adequate for any size text but might not be for detailed schematics.

I also use the Brother iPrint&Scan app which lets me set up workflows for 1 touch operation of things like simplex/duplex scanning. The app also has a great feature where a PDF created from a scan can be compressed significantly on the fly with minimal loss of clarity.

When the drum nears the end of its life (I'm expecting about 10,000 pages) I'll probably just replace the printer with a current model with the same specs.

@thwarted: Another 2750 user here… great printer for the home. For the price, one gets a lot of mileage and functionality… not just traditional print and scan but also interfacing with modern smartphones.

Of course, this 2395 might be good for my folks who don't do much scanning. They just need a printer to print out their flight tickets and itinerary before going on holidays.

MFC-L2750 +1 for small home office.
Once setup quick scan can scan both single page or double sided page.
Current one at least 3 yo and going strong

Great scanner, have one for 2 years now and still haven’t changed the included toner. Last ages

    • Orly? I use my phone for scanning instead of this guy. Found it to be much easier to trim then send. Not a huge amount of difference in terms of quality either.

Printing-wise no complaints. TN2450 can't get any cheaper on eBay. Kmart paper has gone up in price though.

      Yes.

    Cancelled and refunded by OW

  • Appears very similar to the HL-L2350DW but with scanning and a screen.

The HL-L2350DW is regularly $160 on Amazon, maybe a little cheaper on eBay with coupons and/or cashback.

Scanning being the most important addition

I find that many people are happy with using mono printers… Is it because laser colours aren't that great? I've seen many people recommend to get inkjets for photos…

    • Laser printer affix ink to the surface of the paper while inkjet soaks in a ways which is how photo paper works. Laser printers really aren't for high quality photo printing.

      • What about for documents with colours though? Are laser printers usually okay with that?

My only laser printer experience is the really large ones in the office and they probably look good cause they're more expensive than the consumer grade ones.

Im trying to ask myself if i ever need to print documents with colours as well.. 😅

        I need a printer but don't exactly know whether i need colour…

Im trying to ask myself if i ever need to print documents with colours as well..

          I also was concerned.

I have now lived with mono for many years. The only time I actually needed colour was when scanning passport photos, and even then I just ended up printing those in the office. Beyond that, I haven't really felt I was missing out

        • +4

If you're not sure whether you need colour or not, then you probably don't.
For the occasional prints that might need colour, you can always go down to OfficeWorks and get them to print it in colour for you.

My Brother BW laser printer only needs toner about every 6 months and that's about $40
My wife's colour inkjet uses colour like it's going out of fashion, even when printing black and white. Colour ink is $40, black is $40.
Ergo I don't use the colour.

What about for documents with colours though? Are laser printers usually okay with that?

          Yes they are perfectly fine.

    • +2

Probably because mono is good enough for most people?

From my personal experience laser usually results in very clean text because the carbon particles do not diffuse like ink. Colour laser may not look stunning as the colours tends to be very dull but the sharpness of text and image should be similar to dye sublimation printers like Canon Selphy series, which ink jet usually need special paper to achieve such effect. But those two technologies are expensive, while mono laser is dirt cheap by now, both initial cost and in long run.

I only print occasionally and laser toner doesn’t go bad or blocking like inkjets do so mono become something I’d rather compromise.

  • Old printer died recently after a few years of mild use (HP inkjet), so this is great timing.

Hopefully there's enough stock at my local store.

After being bestowed a laser printer at work, happy to get one for home use.

    Thanks OP.

    • Cancelled, bummer.

What is the difference between 2395 and 2730?

  • I have the 2340dw and its wireless printing has stopped working. Always an error when sending to printer.
Don't know how to fix, and now sure if this will happen to this printer

    • +1

I had a similar problem and fixed it when I realised that the printer and the iPad that I was sending print jobs from weren't on the same wifi band. Not sure if this is the cause of your problem, but worth a check. So if your device your sending on is on 2.4ghz, or 5ghz, make sure the printer is on the same band as if it isn't, your device won't see the printer.

How can I use School return voucher to pay for Officework purchase?

  • Have one and it is much better than the Canon small office inkjet it replaced. Wifi works, wifi direct works and cloud print works as expected. Would get the document feeder version if I was at uni.

  • Thanks for sharing this deal. I wasn't sure about buying this initially because of the mixed reviews. It was a toss between this, and Epson WF 3825 model. Then I realized I didn't really need ADF and colour printing. I also print occasionally, hence, maintaining an inkjet printer won't be an economic choice.

So I went to the nearest Officeworks as soon as it opened today. Got the last stock, and tried setting it up as soon as I got home. It's a tad bulky, but the scanner and printing quality are excellent. Easy to set up too and send scanned documents directly to PC. It's still Day 1 of use, but so far so good!

  • buy a color laser printer or your kids will complain why they can't print a photo for a school project .
