Mate is not to be confused with Buddy

    • +2

      Thanks Cobber

    • +2

Mate, I'm not your buddy friend. Yeah, guy! 🍁

  • +1

    Does Mate have CGNAT?

  • +4

Why do the 50/20 over the 100/20 when it's the same price for 6 months?

    • +7

Agreed the bargain would be the 100/20.

      • +11

Faster speed, same price? But people don't want it? Confused…

        • +4

More profit for Mate to promote 50/20

        • +1

Their pricing team is in trouble now

  • +1

    Where's the Farkenell 1000/50 plan?!

    • +1

It's coming, no ETA yet but in the pipeline.

  • +4

mate, 100/20 for $60 is a good deal not 50/20

    • +2

Mate plans are never a good deal if you value your sanity

  • +11

    Horrible experience with mate.

100000% they throttle certain traffic. AVOID.

    • +2

Agreed. Went back to my old isp the same week. Im in qld.

    • +1

      please explain

    • +5

Also left MATE, speeds were unbearably slow on a 250 speed. Asked support for help and was treated as if I knew nothing even providing stats from my Cisco dashboard.

    • They throttle Netflix in peak, only. Not other traffic nor streaming services. It’s pretty easy to get around anyway, and much better than them throttling all traffic.

  • @rfc850 is this a duplicate post & price increase from your previous deal?
BTW, what's going on with your network? Have you noticed all the negative customer feedback in your previous posts?

  • +5

    $80 Month for 50/ 20 is a joke

  • +13

I would not join with Mate Telecommunication - They used to be good with Vocus as their gateway to nbn network, every since they switched to Wireline https://www.wireline.com.au/, their wholesale has been the worse as IP TV does not work and had issues with them shaping the service or throttling the service. The buffering circle will keep coming up during peak times. Please don't risk it. The best service is Tangerine or Superloop for value for money.

  • My comprehension must be poor. Where is the bargain?
I pay $87 per month for 930/39 connection.

  • I think they have a 30 day money back guarantee, but I still wasn't willing to give them a try. This many bad reports just can't be wrong.

  • +1

I won't even touch it with a six foot pole, after what they put my friend's mum through with their mobile deal last year.

  • +2

Was with them once, never again. NBN not working 1/2 the time. They knew there was an issue with there back end but blamed NBN Co and got them out.

  • +3

Not a bargain with a deceptive post for 50/20 when they're offering 100/20 for the same price.

My experience with Mate echoes many comments above, absolutely pathetic connection with a "support" team to match.

Save yourself the headache and avoid this company.

  • If you live by yourself then port number or get one extra sim and a cheap phone for hotspot. I have G84 5G, bought when it was on sale+ there was 100$ jbhifi gift card. Buy Felix mobile sim “20$/m for 3 months and then 40$/m” unlimited data 20mbps. No issue with stream, no buffer, good connection and because of 20mbps, if i wants to download game on ps5, i do it overnight. Am on third month n probably will get a new one for next 3 month and port 1st to 5-6$/year pay as u go with amysim.

  • has been with them for over 7.5 years, and asked for a discount recently and received a hard no in response, so moved to Flip for their discounted offer…

    • +1

got a negative vote for stating my experience, nice!

Good mates shouldn't allow fellow mates to sign up to MATE.

    • +3

This is a BAIT, dressed as a MATE.

Signed up this plan when it was $55 per month. They increased the price first month and didn't honor the contract. Stay away.

  • +1

Paragraph 17 of their SFoA is concerning:

Month-to-month, casual or ‘no contract’ terms
If a Plan or Contract is described as ‘month-to-month’, ‘casual’, ‘no contract’ or similar:
    a) we may terminate it on at least 30 days’ notice; and
    b) you may terminate it on at least 30 days’ notice, taking effect at the end of a Billing
Period (e.g. if you give notice on 26 March, your Contract ends on 30 April next).

  • been with nbn100/20 bundled phone plan for half a decade now, they won't reward loyal customers but they will suck new customers in

  • +5

Never again I would EVER go back to MATE, NEVER!

For the iffy and spotty service they provide, they will need to pay me to use it. The only thing they provide "consistently" is the inconsistency quality of their internet.

  • +3

MASSIVE DOWNVOTE! These guys throttle everything except speed testing websites.. which magically give you max speed you pay for…. AVOID!

    • +1

My testing as current customer is they only throttle Netflix traffic.

  • Hopefully deal continues, current free 3 months with amaysim ending in late Nov…

  • +3

Tried them last month. Absolutely terrible. Cctv went offline at home 13 times while I slept. Online gaming was unplayable and Netflix buffered a lot. They blamed my equipment and said I had no dropouts. Ported out next day and everything perfect again. Heavily advise against them.

    Hey OP (Mate)

I have been with mate for over 2 years. Service was okay but it’s getting to be very unreliable. Often i have yo turn off wifi access and just use my mobile data. Im thinking about a change. Im currently om the ripper deal but sm thinking about trying your wireless plan

    Two questions
First- will i need a new router
Second am i able yo use the $30 code?

    Thanks

  • +2

Bottom of the barrel ISP. They put money towards paying sporting identities (e.g. Sam Kerr) instead of in to improving their network.
Similar to dodgy solar panel retailers using washed up cricketers to help sell their services (e.g. Allan Border / Steve Waugh)

  • +1

Tried them for 1 month on the $50 deal. They throttle speeds on youtube even though speed test shows good speed. Tried to cancel and get the 1-month money back guarantee offer, they denied saying because I was on the $30 discounted offer they would not refund the money. Avoid.

  • I got the email saying they are increasing the price of ripper 50 plan to 80$ /month after 30 days.
At mate, we strive to provide great value while continually improving our service, so we are letting you know on 2024-09-30 with 30 days' notice that effective from 2024-10-31 we will be varying the terms of the Service.

From 2024-10-31, the following terms will apply to the Service:

    Service name: Ripper 50/20
    Standard monthly price: $80.00

    • It's still fairly competitive at $60 a month after the discount right? I am on the same deal I imagine, was $55 a month after discount.

  • I'm also on the end of a ripoff, sign up for the 6 month deal then immediately put the price up. Also was not clear about the credit card fees and I also experience crazy buffering on some services (9now) that were completely fine on ABB. "At mate, we strive to provide great value while continually improving our service, so we are letting you know on 2024-09-18 with 30 days' notice that effective from 2024-10-18 we will be varying the terms of the Service.
From 2024-10-18, the following terms will apply to the Service:
    Service name: No Worries 100/20
    Standard monthly price: $90.00

Putting the price up then listing a better promotion that gets me back to where I was it's a sure way to ensure we won't be mates.

  • dont waste your time with mate, unless you enjoy suffering

Just left them, I no longer game a lot but i do enjoy a casual match now and then… aside from the fact speed drops to less than 10Mbps (on a 100Mbps plan) there are constant spikes and dropouts

  • Just a heads-up, our RIPPER20 promotion has been extended from the end of October to 30th November 2024.
