Worst nbn isp, ever near my exchange in the inner south of melbourne. Have churned to everyone at this stage and without a doubt this was tbe worst.

Oh and when I left after 3 days they kept persisting that i pay for a whole month despite contacting support on each of those days. They blamed nbn despite me churning back to leaptel fixing everything.

    Your experience may be different

    • -5

      Worst nbn isp

It was meant to be a late April Fools joke. Just look at the posting time…

      • +5

JV , "you've done it again".

      • -1

The downvoters are out today jv. Last time this deal had 87 upvotes and 4k clicks.

    • +4

I haven't had any problems. There are worse nbn providers network wise that only have 1 POP.

    • +1

So , who was the best ⁉️

    • +1

near my exchange in the inner south of melbourne

That means nothing. It’s not ADSL.

If you have FTTN the distance to the node does matter but that isn’t necessarily the old phone exchange.

    • Don’t you pay per month? Didn’t know other ISP were pro rata?

I don’t churn, so for me they’ve been fantastic. I keep contacting them to apply discounts and they do, have had no need to churn.

    • Exetel has actually been the best ISP I've ever had.
They give you boost days so you get double the speed when needed.
I was constantly getting 10% over the quoted limits.
Their customer service when I did have issues was above average and their user portal was very friendly to use and offered great insight to usage.
Also they offered a free security thing for a month and I got SMSs when suspicious activity was detected. This uncovered that my Chinese NVR was accessing suspicious websites and I've since bought a more secure modem and isolated it from all other devices on our local network.

    • +1

Been with them for 6 months now, yup they SUCK
I had to try them out given I churn to every other nbn provider and was curious.. man these guys are bloody terrible

  • +1

I’m tempted to finally leave AussieBB. Just much better value here even after the discount is finished.

    • +6

      Just much better value here

Better value just about anywhere compared to AussieBB.

They used to differentiate based on service, but no longer…

    • Leaptel is another good choice.

Alternatively there is Buddy Telco. It's Aussie BB without the call centre.

      • Do they all allow you to disable CG-NAT for free?

        • +2

Leaptel does. Buddy Telco charges $5/month.

  • +2

Been an Exetel customer for a while now, hoping I can leverage these new customer prices for discount in my next renewal

    • remember you need to give a months notice when you want to leave

      • Been with them for 18 months now, not planning on leaving.

    • +3

I had success at extending my $54/month 25/10 plan after my initial 6 months discount. They offered me another 12 months at $54/month (had to hold my line as there was less good offers initially). Just told them I was giving my 1 month notice and switching to x provider with y offer.

    • +1

You will, just stand your ground when speaking to sales :)

They wouldn't match 100/20 $65.99 for me, but did $70 p/mth for 12mths (no contract)

This is the 3rd time I've negotiated a further discount at the end of my 6/12mth discount, they've come to the party every time. Been with Exetel for about 3.5yrs.

  • nbn 25/10 $50.99/M

Fubar is cheaper and it's not limited to only the first 6 months.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/866782

    • I believe Fubar only have a PoP in VIC and WA.

  • -4

Worst service of all ISPs. Also you have to give them 1 month notice to cancel the service which is ridiculous.

    • -1

Also you have to give them 1 month notice to cancel

      So do many others.

      What's the problem with that?

    • same as superloop?

    • +3

It's a bit of a hassle, but you can also tell them that they're not allowed to charge for a service that's not provided, which is against consumer law, and you'll report them to fair trading.

Sometimes I find it confusing to try and line up the dates, especially for providers that charge halfway through the billing period.

  • +2

churned to them for a cashback deal around black friday, regret it. poor connection and require 30 days notice to cancel.

    • -3

      poor connection

That would be an NBN issue.

      • +1

have used multiple other isps with no issues

        • What speed are you on? Could be congestion.

      • +4

uneducated comment. Saying for certain that it's an nbn issue is just silly

        • -5

          is just silly

          But very likely correct…

        • If this was a job interview for Exetel customer support he would be hired

    • What was the problem?

      • slow network at times, some strange connection lag/delay often

  • +4

If you are considering Exetel and use TopCashback, it's worth stacking with TCB's cashback offer. I did this a few months ago and Exetel seems better than my previous NBN provider iiNet.

Edit: Signed up with Exetel on 29th Nov 2024, cashback confirmed on 28th Feb 2025 and cashback payable on 25th Mar 2025.

Been with them for over 15 years. Never had an outage with the NBN through them and always top speeds on the 100/40 plan. Usually get consistent 119Mbs down.

    I'm on FTTP though.

  • I'm on currently with extel, have been getting great speeds no drop outs, had experienced drop outs at night with superloop previously. Very satisfied.

  • Currently I'm with Exetel but on Opticomm service and I never had any issue with the speed no matter what part of the day I use it.
I'm on 100/20 plan and always gets around 109/18 even during evening.

  • Been with Exetel since the last deal 1.5 months ago. Running smoothly once CGNAT is off. I didn't get many connection drops or nbn maintenance notifications from Leaptel(previous ISP) but it was enough to be a little annoying. With Exetel it's currently very stable.

  • +1

Signed up for next month and nabbed the $100 cashback which tracked immediately. Hope they are a good churn to rotate with Leaptel and Superloop.
30 days notice for cancellation sucks, but same as superloop and not hard to put a calendar reminder in for 5 months time.

  • they just increased my bill from $75 to $85 for the 100/20 plan. Has any existing users successfully asked them to match the new customer price?

    • Call up and see what Exetel say. Otherwise swap to Superloop, Buddy Telco or Leaptel.

    • As the Village People proclaimed, "churn, baby churn"

      • That was Disco Inferno. (I was hoping it was Earth, Wind, and Fire so I could say Earth, Wind, and Fibre).

        • Yep, it certainly was! 🤦

    • +1

I was able to get them to match it for another 12 months

  • Being with them for a year now, Adelaide. We had massive issues with our BNB for 2 years,we changed all the providers, just Exetel fixed our issue.. pretty happy with them. We on 500/50 plan at $104.

    • +1

You can get 1000/50 for less.

$99/month for 6 months with Superloop.
$99/month for 12 months with Leaptel.
      $99/month flat with Buddy Telco.

      • I had that price when I started with Exetel. Not going to bother changing provider for what..$5? 😅

The sleds I get are around 600mbps so it's enough good for my usage.

        • +1

Yeah it isn't much however you are actually paying for 1000/50. Exetel buy 1000/50 from nbn and shape it to 500/50. Exetel can put you on a real 1000/50 by calling up.

  • I had no problem with Exetel for the last 6 months. I churned out to Origin for the $48 for 50/20 bundle discount but will happily go back to Exetel 6 months later. We have dropouts occasionally but that I believe is 100% an Opticomm issue who take ages to even acknowledge that there’s a problem before fixing it.

You need to give 1 month notice but they will pro-rata the extra days after the last full month’s bill is charged. So I was charged $15 for 1 week as my last bill.

  • +1

EFF EXETEL after they booted me and many others from the UNLIMITED DATA PLAN.

    • +1

      it is unlimited data?

    • +1

All "unlimited" plans for most things are subject to fair use policy, which is bullshit imo. Either make it unlimited or don't call it unlimited. How much were you downloading per month?

  • +2

Exeter have a very bad customer service. My experience has been terrible. Very condescending customer support personnel. I would never go to them.

  • +1

Just as fyi, I had my cashback denied almost instantly due to taking up a FTTP upgrade.

Exetel had to cancel my service and create a new service to trigger the upgrade - despite having continuous connection and 0 downtime.

I know the technicalities of the cash back terms, but it was a bit of a dog move as I didn't request any cancellation but their systems are antiquated and can't handle that. So, due to no fault of my own, I got screwed out of $100 cashback.

  • -5

    Can not recommend this mob.

The 30 days notice that you have to give them to end your service is a real money spinner for them. They give you no leeway whatsoever.

    Here have a neg

You can schedule the new ISP to activate a couple days before Exetel disconnects you.
