Plenty of negative reviews on previous post and on Amazon 3.7 out of 5

Yeah it depends what functionality you need. I suspect most of the issues are relating to confusion over the lack of support for DisplayLink.

Just sharing cos I noticed it’s very cheap.

    • Bought one yesterday, just received it but so far so good - connects my MBA M3 to two monitors (1 DP, 1 HDMI) when MB lid is closed. Seems to wake up from sleep fine. When Mac lid is open one monitor turns off as expected (Mac limitation).

For the money I’m happy it works; MacBook display output seems a giant mess, I was contemplating buying the bullet and buying a $$$$ TB4 dock.

My existing Thinkpad TB3 dock and Novoo usbc dock didn’t work well or at all

Although if anyone knows how to have Mac display on as 3rd display with this Belkin dock, let me know ☺️

  • Been using this fine over the last 6 months

Wish they wouldn't make these with the tethered cable that you can't replace :(

    • +1

Wow that's such a huge let down :/

    • They need to ensure a proper awg and shielded cable is used, otherwise 9/10 people will have a terrible time with Thunderbolt at higher utilisation.

Not a surprise any TB3 dock devices have bad reviews, very few got anywhere near a stable 40gbps. TB4 certifies that throughput.

We've had a few hundred docks of various types go through this place the last few years, I think I've seen maybe two dead ones, one was because someone crunched the connector.

But yes, people will try to run some garbage USB cable they picked up on Temu or in a servo and cry when it catches fire, and there are likely to be specs they need to comply with to be certified. You can remove the entire end of the Dell TB docks to replace with various options.

      • That's a fair point. The use case I have is to switch the desk setup between my work laptop and my own PC, but this short little cable isn't going to reach both. Obviously not an insurmountable problem but I'd need an extension cable and we're back to the same problem of users buying cables.

Could be worth having a look on Amazon. There are a number of docks with discounts (although none as big as 75%). A few don’t have cables (e.g. this, which seems to have similar features to the one I shared).

  • Dumb question, can this be used with a normal USB-C as a hub? My laptop is Ryzen and I don't think has Tuberculosis 3

I believe you need tuberculosis 3 level hardware, so it may work depending if your laptop port support it or not.

Like most devices w USB4 specification will work but not sure in this case if it's an older laptop.

No, I don’t believe that it can. As per the product page you require Tuberculosis 3 & Windows 10.

Lol is tuberculosis a meme I've missed?

      • +4

It seems autocorrected TB > tuberculosis
hope it wasn't an AI hallucination :P

teehee, no worries Jimothy Wongingtons, hope you had a chuckle. Though check your boot for a snake.

  • Looking at previous comments and I am confused now, is it a good enough dock or not if I just wanted to connect it to a monitor with my M2 Mac/ work windows laptop? Because I don’t have to plug in the power cable or usb peripherials separately.

    • Thunderbolt is specifically for high transfer speeds and connecting to 4k monitors. A good USB hub would work if you don't have 4k monitors and don't care about transfer speeds

I use one at home with a surface laptop 5 and Intel MBP for dual QHD monitors and it's good for $80. I never feel like I miss the dell dock at the office when I'm working from home.
