$79.00 at Umart if you can pickup in store.

  • Would this allow an M1 MacBook air to connect to 2 monitors?

    • +7

      Not without displaylink

      • I use a Dell D6000 docking and a 2018 intel macbook with displaylink installed, seems a bit lagging maybe the charger is not big enough?

But when I use my work 2024 HP G5 docking it works fine with no lagging but can only have 1 monitor working and another one becomes mirror.

Can anyone help and advise is this Belkin Dock can solve that problem? as i am using Dell docking is very lagging.

Also cheaper on eBay $72 plus additional coupon saving.

I have this now and it's the biggest piece of shit. Whines like crazy to the point my ears are bleeding, none of the other ports work when hdmi is connected, totally useless. Might just have an unlucky unit but be wary. EDIT, checked Amazon and it's fking 3.7 out of 5 stars over 1000 reviews. Avoid like the plague.

      Appreciate this

    • +1

+1 I have one too and it’s the biggest waste of money, a good for nothing belkin product

    • +2

      Thanks Mate. Will pass

    • +2

i just checked with Jb for a price match and they were surprised about the price, they told me the one from umart is an older model 2022 whereas the one from jb is 2023. i feel like they are the same anyway and will pass based on the reviews

    • I have something similar but Lenovo brand. Shit too. I think with regards to these kind of things you would need a tougher one that would carry the load like Dell.

      Thanks for saving me money.

Reviews do not look so promising 🤔

    thunderdock sounds like thundercock

    • +5

      Sure.

    • What about thunderstruck?

    • +6

Thunderdock is what happens when you roll the foreskin of one thundercock over another

With such a short TB cable for such a large box it is pretty clear it is a shit design.

    • so many of these docks have a tiny cable attached, makes no sense to me

One thing to note for Apple users. It doesn't look like this supports displaylink, so newer MacBooks will only do one external monitor unless they have the Max or Pro CPU. (or in some cases, two external monitors if the laptop lid is closed)

Cheapest way I have found to do extra external displays for MacBooks is a displaylink supporting Dell D6000 dock. You can often pick them up (used but tested) from eBay for about $60 (with PSU). They are quite common because of companies upgrading to newer docks, but they work well.

Great idea, purchased a used D6000 for mac. Will see how it goes.

I've been using a d6000 for years - sure I have to use the displaylink, but it works for dual monitor.

    • Always appreciate your posts/comments.

Do you know if any of this applies to latest iPads?
Looking for a compact dock, for iPad to use wireless keyboard & mouse, large monitor. I have a cheap small one, works fine, tucked up behind the screen. But I also want to keep the iPad charged.

      • I have an unrelated question, as you seem to have a laptop-like setup on your ipad.

How does the ipad handle that many things at once? I have limited experience, but on the old ones, I remember it would kill the app sent to background, if it didn't have enough resources (ie. memory). Is this still a thing? When you eg. use the browser or edit something, then start a game, would it come back to the browser/editor like you left it (so like on a computer) or does it restart the app you wanted back (like an iphone with not enough memory)?

Sorry, mine is for work. I only swap between Mail, PDFexpert & our custom software. Does that fine. Not sure if there's a Mac equiv of task manager (to see CPU/ram usage etc).

It's quite clunky, nothing like a laptop. But I've got way too much typing to do, to cover the screen & tap-away onscreen.

      • iPad 9th gen is still lightning so you can only use a special adapter. iPad 10th gen, likely only supports USB-C/alt-mode.

For M2 or M4 based devices (latest iPad Airs, iPad Pros), M2 is in the same boat. M4, not sure, most likely hasn't changed. However, DisplayLink current DOES NOT support iOS so you can forget about DisplayLink workaround. If you really want 2 external displays + the one on your device (3 altogether), go for M2 Pro or M3 Pro based devices, or if you can wait, wait for M4 Pro devices.

        • So the ipad air m2 cannot hook up to an external monitor for extended screen? Got abit confused.

        • From all my googling, I found the same as you've mentioned about Alt-Mode. Being an iPad, I've got a gimped settings page. Very frustrating, so I'm trying to do anything I can to ease the pain.

@Ulysses31: Apple had to keep the cost down on iPad 10th gen, but EU's push at least made iPad 10th gen USB-C. A cheap and decent USB-C dongle is good enough for 1 external display (you just need a decent enough USB-C adapter, preferably an Apple original). You probably want the Apple original one if you care about 4K + HDR. Thunderbolt 3 docks are being discounted for a reason. They are no longer that great and you will most certainly run into issues with USB4 enclosures with medium or high end Thunderbolt 3 docks (because it requires a NVM firmware patch from Intel (through the dock maker)). It is a mess even for Thunderbolt 4 (in terms of USB4 compatibility). USB4 v2 and Thunderbolt 5 are on the horizon. Thunderbolt 4 isn't really that great (again, with no competition, Intel slacked off, but now USB4 is available, Intel has to respond properly).

      • I don't have any iPad experience unfortunately. But netsurfer's excellent comment covers it.

What dock do you currently use? If I am understanding your setup correctly, then you just need a dock that does USB-C power pass through. So one with a USB-C power input, like this deal. Many of the cheap deals here include power pass through. The larger Dell dock is overkill and no extra advantage.

Something like this should work I believe.

    • It's interesting that the market leader in CPUs/APUs tend to cheap out on display support. Intel did that for years. Apple now doing it with their M1 to M4. Hopefully, with Snapdragon X in the market, Apple will change it (but we are probably looking at M5 at the earliest).

DisplayLink is a workaround and every time there is a major OS release, you need to wait for the support to catch up and performance isn't great. It is revived thanks to Apple Silicon M1 to M4.

I suspect with Apple it's to drive sales of the higher price and margin Max and Pro based models.

I like that Microsoft went the other way with the new Snapdragon Surface Pro and Laptop, and all models support 3 external displays, plus the devices display.

        • It's competition related. Intel had to do multiple 4K external displays when AMD became competitive. Snapdragon X does need to match Intel and AMD in the PC laptop space.

We'll see how Snapdragon X turns out. Another reason for Apple to do 1 external display is these Thunderbolt docks are not ideal for general public (because that basically means Macbooks become dongle books or dock books). Multiple external displays mean Thunderbolt 4 has to be added (because it is silly to just go Thunderbolt 3 nowadays for multiple displays) and 2 Thunderbolts won't really cut it. All those mean extra cost.

    • Hi Prong,

I am using a dell d6000 but it feels a bit lagging when I use my Logitech MX master 3, but I don't feel any lagging with another Dock (HP G5).

Do you know how do we fix this lagging? it's not the mouse firmware issue as the mouse works perfectly with HP G5 Dock.

Don’t buy this it’s an absolute piece of shit

  • Too much of features and not much of work.
    not enough good reviews
would not waste money on this
    would rather use DELL

  • Reviews and comments says NO GO.

  • I wouldn't buy a dock without 4k 120hz. Docks should support this by now (latest HDMI and DP have been out long enough) and the QoL improvement from high refresh rate is too good to pass up.

Thank you Amazon, for reminding me that I ordered and returned this same dock lol
