Good way to be out a few grand until Qantas refunds you

    • +4

it will take months maybe years

    • +1

Qantas earning interest off ozbargainers cash while they sit on hold and argue for their refund lol

  • +2

Waiting for the cancellation then the consolation prizes like flight vouchers.

    • Unlikely to get cancelled. Usually a large disorganised company like Qantas won’t even notice this error.

      • Yeah nah. With only a few F seats they will 100% easily notice this. Also the fact that it’s plastered over the internet.

        • With some of their negative press, I reckon they could bump people down to business for the same price and see if there are any takers before enforcing the T&C.

Amazing deal! Let’s have a mile high OzBargain meetup - perhaps we can congregate around the galley or toilets.

    • +2

It's first-class, you probably get your own toilet.

      • There are two toilets for up to 14 first class passengers on the Qantas A380.

  • +1

SYD - LAX 10 JAN now showing at $14k plus ;)

  • +1

And it's gone. Good luck all!

    • Yep, they've fixed it.

  • Seems like the party is over!

  • damn, it's going when I am picking the dates :(

  • +1

I’m booked in seat 1A to New York. Will see all the ozbargain family there!!! (in all our dreams, no way qantas will honour this after it was active for so long).

    • Keen to hear if they honor the flights!

  • +1

Yep loophole closed as I searched Syd to Las Vegas. First date selection $3K, decided to add another 2 weeks, went up to $14K.

Oh well, guess I wont be loosing the house afterall.

  • +3

    Lol you crazy cats

  • +2

Thanks OP! Looks like I got in the Nick of time. Booked flights to Vegas return!!!

    • +13

That usually happens when you bring these errors to their attention, yes.

    • No he doesn’t

      • +1

Well, not me personally but a guy I know. Him and her got it on.

  • +14

Good luck to those who attempted to buy. Genuinely hope it works. Given the last few years, Joycie, sackings after government money for Covid, squeezing out competition, phantom booking to keep Sydney slots, refund issues etc it’s be good if they somehow got gamed.

    • +8

You forgot sacking their ground handling staff and then outsourcing it to a foreign company who will only hire casuals

      • +5

Reckon I could have gone on for a while further ….. and haven’t even got on to Jetstar yet

      • we do not have a choice. either work as casual or no work 😞. they change the role name and advertise again saying its different role. Dodgy practices in a few industries. If you complain, you will not get employed ever again and its career death wish 😔

  • +1

Cant find any cheap tickets. Is it all closed off now?

  • "Normally prices start from $15K +++" - rofl. People actually pay that?

    • +2

When you’re in the I’m rich but not rich enough for a private jet rich, it’s pocket change … alas I’m not that person

    • +3

      The company pays

    • Yes

    • +1

You can put a sleeping bag on the floor of your bathroom and simulate the experience for only a few dollars.

So when locked in the bathroom, you can lie flat all the way for many hours, which is awesome! You can serve yourself $0.20 cups of orange juice and drink as much as you want. Same goes for champagne, or scoop yourself a small bowl of ice cream etc. And set up an ipad so you can watch movies on netflix.

      • +2

Well that all sounds delightful, but you haven't accounted for the surly, middle-aged stewardesses looking sidelong at you for daring to order a second drink.

  • +2

Good luck to those that managed to book a ticket. I’ve had booked an error fare with Virgin code share with Singapore and it was honoured. So there’s hope!

    • +5

Qantas and honoured don’t fit in same paragraph

damn, I would’ve gone if I’d been up early. Sadly went to the pub last night so slept in a bit. Enjoy those who didn’t.

  • Stop driving up inflation!

    • Stop driving up inflation

Paying less for things drives down inflation…

  • +1

I booked MEL-LAX 2 x pax on the $25 pay later option around 4am, and the booking and “pay balance” button is still active.

  • -1

This is the price it should actually cost.

    • +1

A first class seat takes at least four times the space of an economy seat, so probably not.

      • -1

        It's business class. Calm down.

        • May I ask what led you to the conclusion that I am not calm?

  • +1

Please let us know what Qantas end up doing. I was tempted to buy but have a large family and even at the huge discounted price couldn't justify the spend.

  • +3

Bought 2 in the early morning, price is now showing as $58,000. Can't believe people out there pay that much

    • Agree, by the time OP posted this, I have to change the date like 3-4 times because the limited seats were all apart from each other. Some people really do have spare change

    • i miss the party otherwise would buy 4 tickets for the family holiday
let me know if they honored it

  • so cheap, good bargain

  • +1

Thanks OP. Booked 212 seats to resell on eBay.

Ouch, bad day at the office for whoever typed that price in

  • +1

Thought it was just a great sale under new management

  • Good luck all!

  • lol just saw this one. Good luck to those who got in

  • This is a good deal for those that got it. I was looking at 4am and saw SYD-JFK for $2199 (QF to LAX and then AA from LAX to JFK)- so cheap at various dates. NYE, end of Jan, April school holidays. You would see the sale fare at $2199 and then the days on either side were like $14,200. Crazy!! 270 status credits too. But yeh, didn't book.

    • booked me and kid SYD-JFK just before xmas for 8.5k - just a waiting game to see if it will honoured

  • Something else to consider for the value proposition is that First SYD<>LAX return is 540 status credits on its own. A connecting flights itinerary to the US East Coast or from somewhere other than Sydney would easily push it over 700 SC earn to get instant Gold status to get lounge access for the next membership year.

    Shame I missed the deal!

  • -5

    Ticket got cancelled

    • They must not like you.

    • How did you get notified?

      • They didnt…. trolling

        • That’s what I was thinking .. it’s way too quick to be cancelled

        • +2

He just woke up and saw his Luna park ticket got cancelled.

        • +1

Collingwood fan referring to his Grand Final tickets this year

    • Username and all that

  • +3

well you just ruined any chance of this getting honoured by posting it here lol

  • +1

Qantas just funded a new 737 thanks to Ozbargain.

    • I don’t think a lot on ozbargain actually purchased this. Sure there was 4000 clicks on it but that was just to a screenshot of the pricing not the actual website.

    • They are replacing the 737s with A321s

  • I'm keen to hear if this is honored by Qantas, hey OP how did you find the deal?

  • i just went into manage booking and the price has been updated to $50,221 LOL..

FYI, i chose pay it later.

    • +1

Well looks like you're screwed! Debt collector can't wait to knock on your door. Even your cancellation fee will be more than the original ticket lol

  • +15

I am jealous of all the rich people here who can afford to buy $4,299 plane tickets on impulse and calling it a bargain

    • +1

Same lol. I was lucky enough to be awake when it was first posted, but not lucky enough to justify spending that much on a whim 😅

    • +2

Isn't it a chance of a lifetime to fly first? It's not spare change but you gotta try it once right?

    • +1

hehe, i used many cards to book but failed miserably 😅

    • -3

economy was $1800 last week, so $4300 for 1st seems about right.

  • +4

(Look at what the deal is on) Oh no I missed it…. (Looks at the deal price) $4000+ dollar, haha even at that price I can't afford it..

  • Bad news. My pay-later cart just updated.

Your booking is on hold, the total ticket price may change due to changes in taxes, fees and carrier charges, as well as fare adjustments.
    New Amount Due
    AUD $45,907.40

    Holding Guarantee = AUD $50.00
This will be refunded to the card charged when full payment is made online.

    • Surely they will refund the holding guarantee for their screwup

      • +2

Imagine if they don't, but I'd rather cop this than waiting several months for my full refund ^_^. Anyway, back to economy this December lol

        • I was scared of this and paid my pay-later soon after I booked it.

      • Doubt it because it's covered by their terms.

Of course, you could try to argue the case through their call centre, but that's probably more aggravation than its worth - and given it's covered by their terms, unlikely to be successful.

        • Yep, only fifty bucks. It was worth a shot though.
