          Was Rex flying to Japan?

@timthetoolman: no, but dig a little and you'll see there has been a six year monitoring of airline prices and profits. So I guess if they thought it needed to be acted upon they would.

I've been working at an airline for some time recently, it is a little sickening that they squeeze all this money out of parents in school holidays..

Think of it this way… rather than "supply is constrained so they can make lots of money" - which is how they all operate here…

The cost of flying a plane to Japan is down at the moment, the currency here is strong, and fuel prices are 40% down (source ACCC) -
So when they have a lot of empty seats, sure they predict a lull in demand and lower prices a little to make sure they fill as many seats as possible.
BUT, if they're flying at a loss, they will cancel the flight and bump you to another (especially true of low cost airlines).

Now… Think in peak season every seat is pretty much guaranteed filled… so why is the price per seat doubled?
There is literally no excuse than gouging because they can. In reality knowing every seat is full the plane would be "making money" even at cheaper than sale prices.

Perhaps this was a better link I should have shared : https://www.accc.gov.au/media-release/accc-to-monitor-compet…

@DisasterArea: ACCC are a toothless tiger. There's no price control in Australia. Airlines can do as they please and laugh in the ACCC's face. Just look at how (in)effective ACCC has been with controlling petrol prices. Just another bureacracy where our taxes disappear.

            • @DisasterArea: Capitalism baby
I mean parents can just NOT travel during holidays if they're worried about money?

    • The alternative if they were forced to have flights the same price at all times would be for flights to be extremely unavailable during high demand dates - so you could look at $1k return flights and never ever ever be able to buy them…. sounds worse to me.

Great price for JAL, although summer is Japan is like 90% humidity every day. If you're going to be doing indoor stuff it's fine but if you're planning to walk around temples bring a spare shirt to change into and a portable fan!

    • We went in April 2022, it was a little chilly but bearable ~15c chance of rain in Kyoto and Osaka, but generally nice,.. try to avoid "golden week" and their school holidays if you want to go to disney or universal

  • PLEASE PLEASE come to Bisbane Japan Airline !!

Great experience with JAL recently. Economy seats are definitely bigger than other carriers

  • Great deal, I'm assuming this is a sale and not a general price drop so anyone know when it ends?

  • I cannot see any dates in October 25…

  • +2

Note that June, July, August and into September are the worst months to be in Japan. Extremely high humidity, 30-40 Celsius temperatures every day. Like Darwin in January. JAL are very good to fly with but I would not be visiting Japan in the period that most of these sale tickets are in. Visiting higher altitudes sites will give some relief but the cities and everywhere that isn't higher altitude will be very uncomfortable to be moving around in.
