    Feb 21 (Today)

    Flash Sale (12 AM - 1 AM)
    Hotels: 15% Cashback
    Flights: 10% Cashback

That was 12 hours ago… What's the point of posting it now?

    • +3

Thanks for pointing out! The flash sale is also available from 9PM to 11:59PM later today. I updated the post.

  • Stackable with the hongkong deals may be ?? possibly ?
from that recent deal posted by flight rep ?

    • Yes, as long as you buy the ticket via Trip.com.

      • would make a great deal honestly then. NGL

I dont plan on travelling tho out of country soon.

  • +3

Still waiting my cashback (flight booking) to be confirmed from last deal from September 2024. It's tracked but not confirmed yet though it's saying 'Store should confirm by 19 Jan 2025)' .

    • +1

You need to raise a support ticket for that! There's instructions in the app. The longer you wait the worse it gets as there's a cut off date for being able to raise tickets against transactions. Hope they fix it for you

      • +1

Shop back been terrible lately for me

  • If you pay the flight ticket in AUD, where do they process the payment, just to make sure to avoid 3% bank forex fees

    • -2

Just pay in AUD. Based on my experience, almost no travel agent can beat trip.com price after 15% hotel cashback or 10% flight cashback.

      • You won't get 10% cashback on flights.
Cashback is not paid on the Taxes component.

When you look at the discounted/sale air fares, most of the price are different taxes but you will get cashback only on the actual fare.
Therefore you will get something like 2 - 5 % of the prices you pay.

    • +6

FYI, I have paid in AUD many times with my credit card, no forex fees.

    • +2

Narrative on my credit card is always 'Trip.com Sydney Aus'

Who does everyone book hotels with usually? I just book with Qantas using points but wondering if the cashback is worth it , or trying to use Accor etc?

    • I'm in the same boat. I did book during the recent Qantas points boost promo, 3x pts on hotels. However I am more looking to save some $$$. Never used Accor, but I hear good things!

    • +6

Using flight points for hotel bookings is often a waste of points, as points are generally more valuable when redeemed for business class or long-haul international flights.

      • Got fed up with not being able to use my Qantas points when I wanted too for rewards flight's, used 500k points on hotels

    • I always use expedia or booking.com. I generally wait for at least 14.5% cashback for expedia and 12% for booking.com.

    • It depends on your requirements and destination, I think.

In France, I've booked ibis hotels on the Accor website. It's their home market, Accor is almost everywhere there. Cashback + ibis member discount. I had to chase up the cashback though.

For Japan, I've booked with Airbnb. Click via Qantas for QFF points. Much cheaper than hotel for 3 people, but I suppose you compromise in other ways. Most hotel rooms in Japan are tiny and do not accommodate more than 2 people. I booked a 2 bedroom apartment with 4 single beds, kitchen and laundry, for the price of a regular hotel room with 2 single beds. However, I cancelled a different Airbnb booking when I found a cheaper price on the apartment lodging's website.

      • Was language an issue with booking airbnbs? I'm going to Japan later this year

        • +1

Airbnb automatically translates foreign language listings and private messages with your host, so no problem there so far, for me at least. The address doesn't always translate, but the Airbnb map should show the location, and you can copy+paste a Japanese language address to Google Maps. Google Translate and DeepL are useful translators.

You might have communication issues with your host once you arrive, depending on their language skills. If the place is self check-in, you might never even see or speak to your host.

I suppose a big hotel is more likely have English speaking staff.

      • I should add, Airbnb takes a commission, so if your accommodation also takes bookings on their own website, you'll probably find a cheaper price there by cutting out Airbnb as the middle man.

  • Just one question whoever booked via trip.com in the past, if you want to change the date or cancel, will need to talk with Airlines or trip.com.

    • Trip.com, but support there is normally pretty ok in my personal experience.

    • I don't have experience with trip but booking direct will avoid another set of T&Cs (additional cancellation fees, change fees etc)

Especially with flights, always book direct imo

Shopback…A big gamble. They have been rejecting every claim so far if it did not track successfully in the first place.

    • +3

Shopback- tracks often incorrectly if at all 🤣

  • +2

Ah yes once again I activated the shop back and haven't gotten any confirmation about my purchase hours after I made the purchase :) shop back has honestly lost its reliability with me

    • mine shown tracked after 2hrs of my purchase. wait for it.

  • +1

Just to confirm what I'm looking at (first time using Shopback), a "free account" currently discounts trip.com flights by 9%.
The "shopback plus" discount is 10%, which costs $5 per month to access.

Between 9pm~11.59pm tonight, free accounts will increase +1%, from 9% to 10%?
(If so, do we know if "plus" members will be above 10%? Or will free and plus members just be equal during the promo?)

    • Whatever the promotion is, the plus subscriber usually get a small amount extra like 1% or 1.5% extra on top. So 11% instead of 10% for free accounts etc.

  • For the flight booked on trip.com, if I untick every promotion code that will lower the price, but I tick to redeem the lounge benefit (free for once/year as a platinum tier member of Trip.com), would this violate the rule of Shopback and I may not get cashback from the flight?

  • Is this on overseas flights too?

    • Yes, all flights except domestic China flight

Just be warned Trip make you pay to select seats (as a lot do) and they are expensive. My 1700 fare went up $200 what with the seat and $15 Trip fee (don't they make money from the booking anyway?

All designed to make them appear cheaper in search results.

    • +1

I’m not 100% on trip but usually you can book seats thru the airlines for regular rate after receiving the booking number (which can also expensive sometimes)

    • -1

You don't have to select seats.
Similar, you don't have to pay for the extra luggage.

      • If you don't want the middle seat you do.

  • +2

booking directly from singapore air is cheaper than booking through trip.com

    check before going through trip.com

  • Does anyone have issues through shop back that it won't allow you to search until you download the app?

  • Booked a hotel this morning at around 11.30am - not tracked yet. Usually I book in the evening and tracking is with an hour or two. Anyone else had a hotel booking track today?

    • Still not tracked.

  • "Cashback is confirmed and redeemable 120 days after stay date."

They'll be banking on you forgetting all about it…

  • Anyone else only getting 4.8% for hotels? I did previously use a 15% back last weekend, is a one off thing?

    • Sorry, I should learn to read, doing this through casback, not shopback….

  • Not yet tracked! I purchased at 2pm today.

  • +1

In my experience they jack prices up if you click from a cashback site

    • In my recent experience, the price was the same or even less, e.g. for flights, Aunt Betty price goes down after click from Topcashback.

      • -1

Did you compare with vpn+incognito tho?

        • I use guest profile in Chrome when I click thru cashback websites.

          Why VPN?

Edit: hold on, did you mean vpn+incognito for the cashback click thru, or for the regular visit?

  • lets hope it tracks 🤞

    • tracked about 4 hours later 🤙

  • -1

NB: You won't get cashback on the taxes component of the air fares.
Therefore you will get significantly less than 9 or 10% of the prices you paid.

    • The taxes and fees component is almost entirely GST. Other taxes and fees account for about 1% of the fare.

Total taxes + fees is about 11% on top of the fare.

So maybe you get 8% or 9% cashback of the total price paid, instead of 9% or 10%.

  • I have a question about the cashback.
I am committed to paying the full amount to get the 15% of the total amount that I will be paying for the stay. However, upon booking, the site only allows me to pay a 50% deposit. The cash reward calculator has only applied the cashback on the amount paid, not the total.
Will this be rectified later down the track when I check in at the hotel? Thank you.

    • It is not clear from the ShopBack T&Cs as pay at hotel is not mentioned. The CashRewards offer for Trip.com on 15 Feb specifically stated that cashback would be calculated to include amounts paid at the hotel.

    • Same for me i.e. incorrect cashback. Booked a Hotel for 2 nights but the purchase amount and cashback in Shopback only refers to nightly rate which means I am getting cashback only for 1 night instead of the whole stay. In the past I got cashback for whole amount (not just the first night) from Expedia/Agoda etc.

I'm done with Shopback for now, until tracking improves. I have had 2 issues in the last 2 weeks. One of them was a Gift card purchase on the Shopback app, even that did not track correctly.

  • Cant see 10% only 3%? Clicked link and went thru the app

  • I spent more than $1,000 on a flight ticket, but received only $3.77 cash back, and purchase amount showed 53?

    Good the job SHOPBACK.

  • Never had any successes on these website for cash back (shopback or cashrewards). they never track for me and the claims always get rejected. 🙄
