2 hours from 12am to 2am, what a weird timing.

    • what? until 2 hours after midnight?

      • Yep, that's what it says in the email.

      • +5

I wouldn't worry too much. I had a look at a few resorts im watching in Thailand and the prices were so inflated on Trip.comm let alone using cashback link that may as well just book normally elsewhere/Agoda.

        • +2

That's how all these booking sites work though, each app has certain hotels or rooms cheaper than others. When I book a trip that has multiple hotel stays I literally have bookings through about 3 or 4 different apps depending on whoever had the best price for the hotel I wanted. For example, Trip.com app has the best price for Crowne Plaza Phu Quoc for the 2 Double Premium Ocean View room which I've been waiting to book through a Shopback deal. Cheaper than all the other apps and sites. Just thought I'd point that out as I always see the "X app is so inflated!!!" comments

          • +1

@iluvbargainz: Yeah interesting. For me it's literally always been Agoda, Expedia, or Booking (or they are the same). But i dont doubt what you say, there is so much funny business tracking and analytics ontop of the normal price cycles that change over the course of days/weeks. I have found it alot harder in recent times to do a cashback WITHOUT the price actually being jacked making it pointless or not worth the risk of tracking issues. Impressed to see you found one. I have been watching for several weeks for my current Thailand trip and every cashback deal so far has only been on par/or jacked to be worse than my normal Agoda pay later booking. Still have a week to book too, so the games continue.

            • +1

@Xizor: Yeah Agoda is quite often the cheapest lately, however when it comes to the better or more expensive room types I've found some pretty good bargains on Trip. We got a Diplomatic Suite at Raffles Dubai including executive lounge access for a fraction of the usual price everywhere else back in April this year. I wonder if it tracks cookies and if you've already looked up a hotel rate on the app and then the cashback deal kicks in and you reopen that same hotel, maybe it holds the same price but if you haven't previously looked it up maybe it jacks then? Not sure of the sneaky ways they work but I absolutely don't doubt that they're sneaky AF. Haha damn, well good luck with your Thailand trip hopefully you get a decent cashback deal this time round

        • +1

A great deal if you are booking for China though. I use the others normally but Trip.com is a god send organising independent travel in China as it has the hotel relationships and train connections there all the others don't.

  • +1

    Is this for paid members?

  • 21% for Shopback Plus and uncapped rep @gotyourback ??

  • +14

be sure to view the price of the booking before activating shopback, usually increases the price by the % amount, also compare to other sites

    • +3

Noticed that also recently when using booking.com it was quite a bit more expensive even after factoring in the cashback.

      • +1

same, had to book a heap of stuff recently, any site using cashrewards/shopback was upping the price once activated 95% of the time, dont know how its legal

    • +3

same… most of my recent bookings are without cashback activated as prices are jacked as soon as you activated cashback …… it wasn't like this few years back.

  • +5

Flight cashbacks are such a rip off considering a majority of the ticket is taxes so they're excluded from the cashback…

    • Wonder if fuel surcharge is excluded

      • +1

It is. In my experience the cashback is calculated strictly on the fare portion. Taxes and surcharges are excluded.

        • Thanks, don't feel so bad now!

  • +2

Westpac will charge me for international transaction fees, so might be better off not using their service…

    • They treat it as an international transaction huh? Too bad.

I just realised it ends tonight anyway, if it renews I'll add it back in maybe not if they charge a 3% fee.

      • +1

All hotels will charge in local currency. So best to use something without foreign transaction fees and forego the westpac 2%, unless booking a local hotel.

    • +3

I was charged in AUD when I used trip.com to book for flights and hotels in China. This was just a couple of months ago.

  • How do you find the details to this offer? Shopback just sends me to the merchant page when i click on the promotion banner.

    • +2

In an email I got this morning, Up to 18% Cashback at Trip.com tomorrow.

      • Ahh right, thanks. You have more solitude than I with those emails. What a bizarre promotion timeframe..

  • mr jack is。around never agood deal

  • Just remade all my bookings when it was 17% the other week, damn it, 1% wasted…

  • Is this targeted?

  • Just wonder if I use Shopback app through my phone and when I clicked it will switch to Trip.com app in my phone. Am I still eligible for cashback?

    • Yes, I have used the app a few times with these deals, always tracked.

    • Hi, has it been tracked at the correct upsized %?I too is confused whether bookings through app will be approved 75 days after travel. In the OP's post, 'Cashback is not available through the Trip.com app', and SB's T&C also says 'Cashback is available only if you visit the Trip.com website via our platform'. As the % is quite large, I didn't risk to book through app. However, @mangobango can confirm bookings through app can also be tracked with these upsized deals, so just to check how did it go for you?

One more thing, SB T&C also says 'This Cashback deal is not valid together with: 'Any Gift Card, Voucher or store credit redemption' and 'Promos or Vouchers not featured on ShopBack', so does anyone have prior experience with:
      1. Trip.com accrues trip coins in equivalent to small AUD values, by redeeming those trip coins in the transaction, will it exclude it from being tracked?
      2. Booking flights through the app will give me $20 discount automatically compared to its website, which I can't remove it by myself. Does this $20 in-app discount considerd as using 'Promos or Vouchers' which will also exclude it from being tracked?

      • However, @mangobango can confirm bookings through app can also be tracked with these upsized deals, so just to check how did it go for you?

Yep every time I booked through the shopback app which then went through the trip.com app, it was always at the upsized rates with no issues.

        1. Trip.com accrues trip coins in equivalent to small AUD values, by redeeming those trip coins in the transaction, will it exclude it from being tracked?

I have used trip coins and the bookings still tracked, as it's not a coupon code there shouldn't be an issue with it being confirmed later on down the track but they have definitely tracked.

        1. Booking flights through the app will give me $20 discount automatically compared to its website, which I can't remove it by myself. Does this $20 in-app discount considerd as using 'Promos or Vouchers' which will also exclude it from being tracked?

Yes all those types of discounts are fine, as long as it's not a coupon code that you have to enter that's also not listed/advertised on shopback it will be fine. I booked some flights as well with a similar discount and it tracked normally with the boosted rate.

        • +1

Thank you so much for the clarification, I'll try app booking next time for these upsized deals. I missed $120 this time as I booked 6 flight tickets.

        • My experience was the other way around, the only one tracked at wrong rate this time was the hotel I did on the app (and another one with flight that hasn't even tracked yet). I did a few subsequent flights purchase on desktop, and they seems to be tracking better than one I did via shopback/trip.com app combination

      • Just to update you guys. My trip $12xx didn’t track with SB. It tracked my click but not the transaction. While I posted a question here, I also chat with SB Customer Service, they confirmed that cashback won’t be tracked using Trip.com app. I meant I wasn’t intending to use app but SB led me to Trip.com app whenever I clicked. So it’s pendinng for their resolution now. Finger cross.

  • +1

Jack D price on everything I want to book.

  • +1

Don't worry about it. They normally jack the price up on shopback first. You can check the price first before you activate the shopback.

  • Special Discount
    -AU$ 480.26
    First Booking Deal
    -AU$ 240.16

How about "special discount" and "First Booking Deal" in Trip.com?
    They are automaticially applied.
would it be eligible for the cashback?

  • All the prices just got jacked….

    • +1

      Mine didn't
I checked the site about 6 hours ago
It was the same price then

It was the same price as booking.Com, Expedia and the hotel website

      So I saved 18%

I've just got to hope that it tracks

      Now I'm off to bed

      • +1

        nice!
i was trying to book flights and it went up by 20% lol

    • +1

      Mine didn't as well
      finger crossed if it tracks

    • Yup I saw that! Cheeky buggers. Really hate it when they do that.

  • -1

they pushed the price up lol even more expensive with cashback

  • Is the $300 cap per transaction?

  • Booked a Fiji hotel that I have been tracking for a few days. Price didn't jack up. If cashback is reached, makes it cheapest price. If not, there is free cancellation option.

  • Just booked 10 minutes ago. Cashback not tracking yet for anyone else?

  • I just got my flights tracked….. at 0.7%
    Disappointed 😞

    • Same here. I have raised an Enquiry as my flight got tracked for 0.7%

      • This happened to me last time they did the 10% In august is false advertising

  • Hotels didn't seem to have tracked anywhere near to 18%… Closer to 10%

    • Yep same here, will give it a few hours but hopefully there's some support contact otherwise…

  • +1

Hotel tracked at 10% instead of 18%. Hope this gets fixed.

  • The same thing happened with a Woolworths Everyday Market upsize very recently, the reps were able to fix it.

I don't know if there will be any reps on tomorrow though given it's the weekend.

    • Just booked a hotel and only tracked at 10%.
Do you mean ozbargain reps or contact shopback support?

      • +1

The reps here, after being made aware of the issue they blanket fixed it for everyone.

  • Is there a way to avoid trip.com flight booking fees? For me, it comes to $30 for an international flight…

  • There’s 8% bonus if payment with St George card. If I pay by the linked St George CC via Apple Pay, will I still earn the 8% bank bonus? @gotyourback

    • From the Things you should know: section in the lounge:

      • Purchases made using digital wallets such as Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay will be eligible for bonus Cashback as long as an eligible card is used as the linked payment method at the merchant's checkout. Apple gift card purchases may take up to 14 days to be tracked. Purchases made using an online payment method such as PayPal, where ShopBack is unable to identify whether an eligible card was used at the checkout (incluing any purchases made on ShopBack), will not qualify for bonus Cashback (even where an eligible card is linked e.g. to the PayPal account).
      • Perfect, thank you so much!

  • I booked the hotel for a total value of $590 and it tracked only $58.65. Also no bonus tracked for additional 2% using Westpac card.

  • My hotel had a "pay at hotel" option, so i did that. However there was a $77 preauthorisarion. SHOPBACK tracked the $77 instead of the full hotel amount.
    Any else had this?
Is it only covering paid up front hotel bookings?

  • +2

Tracked at 10% instead of 18% here too for a 12 AM purchase (trackback email received at 1 AM in the bonus window too), very disappointing after staying up for the damn thing, should we just report it as a missing cashback?

    • Same issue here… very frustrating.

I logged a ticket with Shopback via the virtual assistant (used the "Incorrect amount" category).

  • +2

    Same here

    Only 10% tracked

  • +3

Well, logged a ticket with their bot (after answering a plethora of questions for it, honestly a simple ticket-lodging web form would be far easier), hopefully they fix it.

  • +1

Shopback purchase these days won't track first. When you raise ticket, they will then give incorrect cashback or ignore Bank cashback. You need to keep following up for several days to get promised cashback. Very frustrating experience.

  • Just be aware trip.com won't accept a debit card, needs to be a credit card - I couldn't make it accept my St George debit card and as a result will miss out on the bonus 8% which is a bit poo.

    • I was able to pay with my HSBC Everyday Global debit for multiple bookings in yen with no issue.

      • That's certainly odd, but sadly doesn't this help with obtaining 8% bonus cashback from StG/BOM/BSA.

        • +1

We paid with StG/BOM debit. There's a limit of $1k by default, that u can change it to $2k on the app (but can't go any higher than that, unfortunately). Only the normal cashback tracked so far (but usually bonus tracked a bit later)

          • @hanofee: Yes I was planned to buy 3K value airfare ticket, but can't pay over 2K, wasted 8%

            • @Smallman: Yeah, unfortunately with this card, max limit is $2k, can't even alter it manually (I tried calling them, they said, nothing they can do)

              • @hanofee: This sounds ridiculous, they dictate how you can use your own money. The debit card is linked to a transcation account, say I have 10K in the account, why only 2K can be spent. A business class flight ticket can easiley go above 2K.

  • +2

Spent $1182 on hotel but only tracked $27,not even close to 10% like others here @gotyourback

    • Got it! Sorry that the Cashback is not tracking accordingly at the moment, we are getting this fix from our end with the merchant @Smallman

      • I figured it out, I believed it tracked the cancellation fee $273 instead of the order amount. BTW the St george bank bonus 8% hasn't landed to my sb balance yet

        • Got it! Will inform the team about the amount tracked - for the Missing Bank Bonus will need your help to write in to our customer support team at [email protected] and they will look into this for you

          • @gotyourback: Hi GYB, I noticed the cashback has been adjusted from 10% to 18%,but it still based on the incorrect amount which was the cancellation charge. Can you help?

            • @Smallman: Sure! Could you send me a DM? I'll check it out

  • +2

@gotyourback Doesn't look like 18% on Hotels was tracked correctly for ppl made booking between 0:00-2:00AM 21/09. Will you be able to get this fixed for everyone or we have to raise individual support ticket for it?

    • We will try to get this fix for everyone that has placed the booking between 0:00-2:00AM 21/09 that have the wrong amount tracked @shaz99! Thanks for flaging

  • +2

Lol as usual issues after issues they dont do any check or test on their promos and let customers find them instead, last time i asked they simply say we dont have time to test before live so good luck

  • How long do you receive email saying you are tracked?

    • The standard tracking period for Cashback from Trip.com will be 2 days from the transaction/purchase date

  • I just made a hotel booking in Portugal and cashback has tracked at 13% and tracking email received within 2-3 minutes.

  • Mine only tracked at 11% hotel, was done at 00:10 as the tracking showed, I did subscribe for shopback plus, so should have been 19%. Got 2 flights too (2 separate booking), the 2nd one was tracked correctly at 11% , but the 1st one hasn't tracked yet

  • +1

Expect no tacking or cashback not getting approved if there is large amounts involved.

    • How much is a large amount?

      • +1

I spent $893 on hotels with 14% cashback rate. My visit was recorded, but it did not track. I lodged a claim, but customer service refused after some back and forth claiming Agoda wont approve it.

        • -1

Remember to follow all the instructions next time Amar

          • +4

@douevenozbargain: Sorry but pls don't just assume that I didn't follow instructions. I have been doing it for years and made over 5k cashback frm different cashback platforms. It's just the trend I noticed with Shopback whenever bigger cashback is involved and it wasn't the first time. I'm not sour and I'll still use ShopBack but my preference would be Topcashback and Cashrewards. Special mention to Topcashback, their customer service today approved an Agoda cashback which didn't track but click was registered. Cheers!

  • Have had the missing 8% cashback amount added into my account as a new line (but with the same midnight timestamps) after logging a ticket with the bot, seems they work weekends, relatively quick resolution at least. : )

  • Cash back at 9% which is correct so happy with this deal !

  • stayed awake last night to get the 18% cashback on hotel, checked the rates before midnigt and there was no jackup in my case, did 4 hotel bookings but all tracked at 10% or 11% … will raise complaint if no update in a few days, let's see..

  • +1

@gotyourback tracking was way off, booked a few more flights, some are tracking is like somewhere between 2-5%, nowhere near the 9-10% advertised :(

    • +3

because majority of the flight price is taxes

      • Not true. I just realized it’s actually tracked at 10% but it was the purchase amount that was too low. We bought same flight, but split it into 3 different batch. They were tracking at 20-50% the amount paid. Tax can’t be 80% of the ticket, right? And even that, how the proportion for exact same flight/price tracked differently?
