Just a reminder, recently hannah airline cancelled lots of flights between AU and China. Looks like if there is not enough passengers, they may cancel the flights.

    • That's poor form. Do you know if they offered full refunds or rebookings?

This happened to us. They put us on a later flight, which worked out better for us.

      • When we flew Hainan from Melbourne to Shanghai, our return flight between Shanghai and Haikou was cancelled.

They gave us notice about a week in advance via email, and the options were either refunds or rebooking on a different flight.

The annoying part was we had to call the customer hotline (while there's a website option it's barely functional). The representative helped us the best they could in broken English, giving us multiple options to choose from, and booking us onto the next flight.

TBH despite the language barrier, I found it better than dealing with Jetstar support which takes forever and forces you to live chat.

    • Albeit domestically, I have had the same problem with Qantas over the last few years. Can't tell you how many flights have been cancelled due to "technical reasons' when in fact the flight is just half full. This is coming from a rural area and most passengers are flying for specialist appointments etc. It's honestly beyond the joke.

  • Hey @beatthatflight, Thanks for highlighting good travel deals as per usual.

A suggestion for improvement: I would find it really useful if you could include a bit of info about the type of aircraft that the airline usually flies. Obviously, you cannot share this info for every single flight combination possible, perhaps an overview of the most common routes between Aus and overseas.
Checking over some of the SYD > Haikou flights it is onboard an A330 which is pretty ideal, especially for couples as the configuration is a 2-4-2 as opposed to the higher density 3-3-3 layout.

    • Thanks for the comment. Yes, I do sometimes - eg with Scoot they're predominantly 787s for the long haul. Will try and add it in tho for more :)
