As in title.
Specification says it’s CAT 5 cable but the product photo shows CAT.5e printed on cable.
I assume it is a CAT.5e cable which is capable for gigabit speed.

Why?
No why for you
not fast enough
Then why did you buy 10 ?
so they're not gigabit?
1 Gigabit is not fast enough for you? Do you have a router/network that is faster? You must have a LOT of porn you are trying to transfer, daily, sounds like a lot of "work" ;)
@SimAus007: Yes it is, and lol at the presumption its for porn.
pictures show they are missing the clip protectors. That could be another factor.
@Wiadro has one of those new smartbins that connects to the internet
It's got rubbish reception though
Pay Telstra $ for outdated copper cabling? Who do you think I am, the Australian Government?
Ga'rn, I'll throw in some asbestos pipework and pits for free? It's the deal of the century.
Don't forget your copper-eating gel sealant!
And they need passport to order
Good for holding heavy stuff.
Probably pass on this tbh.
I do use it a few days when the wifi card in the desktop not working
Requires ID verification to checkout…
Remember people it can do 10 Gigabit Ethernet up to 45 meters. Being 3m cable it won't have issues reaching speeds most people can realistically reach at home.
Is that ISO Gigabits, or NBN gigabits?
ISO, I use 2.5GbE over short Cat5e cables at max speed.
I remember ordering a cheap item from telstra which ended up at the post office 15 min drive away.. When I went to collect it, they wanted to see my original passport because that is apparently what I used to sign up with telstra many moons ago.. Was a huge pain in the ass for soemthing I did not even need.. never again!
These are fine for 100/200Mbps connection.
I always find the internet extremely expensive, I wouldn't pay any more than my current $90 per month for 250Mbps, I doubt not many people are paying for those gigabyte connection……
I'd be fine with 250mbps down, it's the 25mbps up that annoys me. The minimal price difference between 100/40 and 1000/50 is why I have gigabit.
Sadly 250/100 is more expensive than 1000/50 though.
you pay $90 for 250, i pay $99 for 1000. 4x faster for 9 dollars more.
Which isp?
Mate which ISP gets you 1000 down for $99?
@Wiadro: Was a pretty straight forward genuine question
@BargainHuntahh: not much of a bargain hunter if you don't know about the $99 plan. You search for NBN 1000 on Ozbargain and it comes right up.
@BLAIL: Ty. Hence, bargainHuntahh and not mi5ta_Kn0witaLL007
@BargainHuntahh: MORE with CBA home owners discount.
Leaptel
Super loop is $99 for 1000 down
@Flintz: Yep I am with Superloop atm. But their $99 for 1000 down is only first 6 month promo pricing.
Would be good to rinse and repeat between ISPs to get best bang for the buck I guess.
@BargainHuntahh: i think buddy and leaptel is also $99
@Flintz: Yep buddy is $99 for 1000mbps. Though no opting out of CGNAT, which in hindsight won't affect a vast majority of internet users. Relatively good value but then reliability of speed needs to be looked into given it is a new company.
Silver lining is that it is budget arm of Aussie Broadband.
@BargainHuntahh: Just call them to say your leaving and they keep extending the offer lol. Had mine extended to a year more
@hsp: You mean they pro-long the 6 month promo pricing over the phone? Noice!
you can pick these up for free locally on marketplace.
I got a bunch and stripped a few just for wire. Makes a good remote temperature sensor with a DS18B20-PAR
For $2 it's really not bad, these are very reliable cables in my experience and will be capable of more than 1 gig
They're charging $2 to steal your identity.
Pass.
We have already your photograph Nickelback
Made me laugh.
Logged in just to give you a +1
Thanks, while I enjoyed the laugh, I now have that stupid song stuck in my head
why couldn't she just wear a belt in that song? Maybe he would have moved on
To be fair, Optus was giving it away for free not long ago.
Thanks for Savin' Me, Rockstar.
Look at this (Passport) photograph.
Ahh, they're doing this again.. There were a few takers the last time.
I picked one up as well. They're pretty decent and assembled well. But yeah, the website's processes for dealing with your order are pretty rubbish
Wow what an amazing deal, maybe you can buy this too https://www.telstra.com.au/accessories/cables/telstra/rj11-t…
Thats a good deal if you need a Cat5e cable 3m or less ..I have a newly built double storey house with ethernet points in every room and found the prices of pre crimped cables to be atrocious when I went looking so had to buy a crimper, cable terminators, tester from China and cable locally and I am happy that I did but if this deal had been around ..I wouldve just bought these.. good quality cables are pretty expensive… and I'd rather have wired ethernet in my house for devices that need the bandwith .. the wireless channels are too unreliable with competing devices…good deal but not for everyone
Redeem 1000 pts cost $0
Based on the list prices and point equivalents for a few products in the Telstra Plus Market, it appears that $1 is worth approximately 360 points. So you have spent ~77c or 38% more paying with points ;)
It does depend on how many points you earn each year.
For example, I am on basic pre-paid casual plan, and only earn 700 points a year. Which isn't enough for the cheapest thing on the telstra points site (2400 for xbox diablo 4 points card), and this is even after (if) I saved them up for 3 years (before the oldest points start expiring).
So might as well use it on something, rather than not getting anything with the measly points I get.
The average points value seems more than 360pts/$ for things i looked at if you consider what you can buy them for elsewhere.
WW and Amazon GC's are over 600pts/$.
Microsoft 365 family subscription is 50,800pts/$129.99 (390pts/$) but you can find it elsewhere for under $100 which would make it 508pts/$ or more.
Logitech G305 Mouse is 35,000pts/$99 (354pts/$) but it is $68 elsewhere which would make it 515pts/$.
This cable would cost more than $2 delivered elsewhere as well making this better value for points.
I remember seeing an Ethernet cable at Bunnings and it was labelled as "NBN compatible" lol
what does red and yellow ends mean?
The Telstra routers have coloured ports to make it easier for less competent users.
Admittedly Telstra do a good job of making the setup process as simple as possible.
Imagine their confusion when they realise they've got the wrong ends plugged in and it still works.
Red means stop. Yellow means go very, very fast.
Thought I was on DCOAU for a sec
Just errors out during the checkout process for me.
I already have Telstra account and no passport required
I bought this last time for $2. It is actually a bargain. Go to officeworks and see how much 3m cable costs….
These cables are not cheap from other retailers.
