  • Is this ok for a high school laptop?
Battery def last at least 6 hours? You say use code for $360 but in the title it says $296

Just have a powerbank with 90 watts over USB-C and it will cover both laptop and cell phone .

      • Interesting. How many watts would be needed to power a Microsoft Surface tablet?

        • Fewer than 90, but better to have this amount just to cover all non-gaming laptops and all mobiles. Anyway, its price is comparable to the cost of internal laptop battery replacement. And to make full circle, you can have a powerbank in which you can put the old laptop's battery cells.

        • My old surface pro 5's charger is 65w - I doubt the newer ones would be going over that especially given the tablet form.

        • Surface tablet is really easy!

My Pro 5 will charge from any of the cheap 10Ah 18/22.5W powerbanks. It only needs 12V (prefers 15V), whereas the Dell laptops need 20V to charge.

In contrast, it is very easy to replace the battery in a Dell, but trying to change a Surface battery is likely to result in a broken screen. Surface devices should be considered non-repairable.

Oh, and my Surface 5 came with a 30W charger. That 65W seems made for a bigger machine.

Too heavy for high school student?

      Get 14" or 13.3"

    • Price on website says $370 but after code its $296

    • Should be fine.
If you find the battery dies after a year or two you should be able to source a replacement battery and DIY the changeover.
Good way to avoid spending the $1400 that high schools charge for whatever they provide in-house.

        Pretty much this.

My entire WFH setup is refurbished and the only thing new were the desk and dock.

  • How do you test the batteries?

    • +1

They don't, they just read the capacity either in bios or in windows.

      • yep, and read one random pick for every 50 laptops

hmm so many 8th getting offload by companies…. meanwhile i glance on my work laptop and i see i5 8th gen sticker :(
    and my personal laptop.. i5 9th gen… :(

We must work for the same place

    • You must feel pretty cheap

      • +4

I am an ozbargainer, I am always cheap. Cheaper the better.

Nothing wrong with 8th Gen laptops for most people doing ordinary office work. Smart companies don't change just for the sake of changing.

  • USB c charging?

    • +1

Yes. From what I can see in the specifications and other documentation it charges via the Type C port. You may get an adaptor that is only a Type C charger instead of a barrel plug.

  • I don't know much about computers. But my son wanted a laptop for Uni and he plays league of legends while away, would this run that game? He has a desktop computer so I don't think he would use it for gaming often. Or do I need something much better?

    • 11th gen for gaming

  • @hunterzz The Type C on this machine is Thunderbolt 3?

    • +1

Yeps, some say it does and some spec sheets say it’s optional. So was asking so we get a specific answer.

  • +2

@hunterzz Is the memory sticks matched and does it come with a genuine Dell 65w power supply? Thanks

  • @hunterzz Any chance you can come and update this post with answers to the questions asked please?

    • I set up the laptop I bought from this deal today.
External case & screen condition is as new & battery health = 88%.
It does come with a genuine Dell power adapter, however the USB C port doesn’t have a Thunderbolt symbol.

      • Thanks for updating… the OP updated the listing after my last post. But I already purchased it before the update.

Wish the minimum standard for refurbished gear is that they get the specifications correct, especially when buying online.

Arrived yesterday, mint condition, looks like it's barely been used, backlit keyboard too

      Yeps mine as well.

Pity the port isn’t Thunderbolt. Was looking at driving two 4k screens at 60Hz.

Battery life on mine was 81%.

      • Mine too, the USB-C is transporting to two FHD screens at 60 Hz (haven't tested 75) just fine and the Lenovo hub works flawlessly for extra IO

Battery life on mine was 92%

        • +1

Damn… I got a dud in terms of battery life.

Yeah it can drive 2x FHD at 60Hz no problems. I reckon it can do 2x 1440p @ 60Hz no problems as well. It's the 4K that is the problem.

          • @jlogic: Tbh at that price point 81% is dang good. Should last you a 18months before it starts causing you problems

            • +1

@freedomj: Yes I know… just saying compared to the other two on here LOL.
