1864

Enjoy up to $450 in sign-up credits when you switch back to AGL energy
That’s a $225 credit per fuel (electricity and gas) on your first bill when you switch your home energy back to AGL. Or get $50 per fuel if you’re already with us. Credit offer for NSW, QLD and SA residential customers.

From T&C:

Get a one-off $225 (GST incl.) credit per fuel (electricity and gas) on your first bill when you sign up to this plan direct with AGL as a new or moving customer. • This is what I'm keen to know. I have AGL electricity under my name. Can I sign up for same address using husband's name (different surname) for both electricity and gas and get $225 credit for each? And then cancel accounts in my name?

          • @daffodil4me: I don’t see why not, I assume they’d see that as you moving out and him moving in.

          • +1

@daffodil4me: I would advise against doing that. It probably won't work and there are disconnection/reconnection fees.
You are better off switching your electricity to another provider eg. Momentum Energy for $200 credit.
AGL retention team will likely contact you to offer $300 credit per fuel.

          • @daffodil4me: If put husband/ wife name can they come back in future saying you broke a clause and ask you to pay back the credit

            Edit

Also usually if switching to another electricity provider you just switch

If u put in wife name then would that mean you cancel electricity in husband name the sign up with wife name

When u cancel and waiting to put in wife name, does that mean no electricity for short period?

        • Just did exactly that. I have AGL electricity under my name (yet to receive first bill and $200 credit). Signed up to gas under wife's name and instantly got the $225 credit.

          • @freekay: Did your wife have an agl account previously?

I cant get the sign up to work as a new customer under my wifes name

            • @amityaaron: No. Everything is usually always under my name.

              • @freekay: Did you need to cancel your gas before signing up under your wifes name?

Or will agl still handle the complete cut over even though the names will be different?

                • @amityaaron: No. Just signed up under wife's name and provided her ID. No need to do anything else.

                  • @freekay: sorry one last question.

did you select new customer moving into a new home or existing home wanting to change provider?

                    • @amityaaron: Existing home, wanting to change provider. And this was all online, via the link share by OP in this post.

                      • +1

@freekay: So my gas was in the process of porting over.

I cancelled it last night, then today reached out to chat and asked them if i could get the credit and sign my gas up.

                        "No problem".

Saved me the hassle of having to go through my wifes name.

Thanks for your help! im sure these comments will help others too :D

                  • @freekay: Noob q

Oh so when sign under wife name they just cancel husband name automatically?

                    • @ATTS: Yup. They just care that you're a real person (ID check) and that the address/meter checks out. It's pretty slack, because I've actually (accidentally) signed up a completely different address up to electricity and it just went ahead no probs (my house's postal address is somehow different to the service address).

    • link pls i dont seem to be able to find the full T&C

  • Their rates are really bad for me in QLD. 3c feed in and only 7% off reference.
How quick can you get the $225 and get out?

    • depends if you have a smart meter

      • Yeah I do I was just wondering if there is a delay in getting the credit, does it come through straight away?

    • +1

If you have a smart meter you can see the credit left after each day, so you can churn through and 2-3 days before it is at 0, you move to another provider.

You might be able to switch tariff again after signing up, AGL on 1st July put me on a really exp. one, then offered me "Value saver" and today "Special value saver" with each time 2cts less / kwh…

  • +1

I'm in Vic, but wondering how the $300 Energy Thing from the government will work if you chop and change retailers, as it's coming via 4*75 credits each quarter.

  • I called agl for that deal, seems it is not updated in their system. They couldn't find the deal and sign me up. (As my unit address issue)

  • +2

For anyone in Queensland wondering what happens if you switch but your account is still in plus because of the government payments:

    https://www.queenslandsavers.qld.gov.au/tips-to-save/$1000-off-your-energy-bills

Customers still have the flexibility to switch retailers for a better deal, even if the rebate has left their account in credit. When switching retailers, any leftover credit will be refunded to the customer as part of the transfer process.

I assume this is also true for other states and the 4x75$ payments. This is obviously not true for any signup boni from the retailer, they have to be churned through first or are lost.

    • +1

Yep, same as they did with the QLD government energy credits which applied these last few years. If any provider doesn't do it, kick up a stink and they will.

      • thanks for asking this as I have 649.45 CR so if I went to AGL I wouldnt loose this?

  • Add carbon neutral or no?

    • +3

      More money so no?

  • How long do you have to move out of AGL before you can get their credit again?

    • 12 months?

      • +2

I ported out last week and they called me with this as the retention offer. I took it.

Before this I joined AGL in March and have already received a $100 credit.

      • Correct as per the T&Cs

"AGL may exclude accounts from receiving more than one upfront credit per fuel in any 12-month period. Not available in conjunction with any other AGL offer, unless otherwise stated."

Do you think the 12 months starts from when you leave or receive the credit?

        • Probably when you left.

        • 10 Months for me. I can already see the credit in my account.
          Sign up bonus
Your first bill will be discounted by $225.00

  • I just got off the phone with Red, and they can see my $1000 qld gov credit on my account and said that if I changed providers that rebate would simply disappear. Can anyone confirm that’s correct?

      • That’s what I thought. Thank you for the info!

    • +2

Fibbers. You should quote them the info from the gov website and see what they say.

  • im in Queensland and i already got our $1000 credit applied to my power bill account. now just waiting for the $300 from the goverment.

    • +3

I think that $300 comes in quarterly installments https://www.energy.gov.au/energy-bill-relief-fund

      • yeah thats what im waiting for, im still gonna pay the normal bills i get until dec then set the aircon on and let it be nice and cold and free paid power.

    • Whattt - with AGL? We still haven't had ours hit unless itll only display next bill

      • ohh maybe thats why as i got my first bill 10 days into june after swapping to a new power company, maybe thats why im seeing the credit.

    • When did you get that 1k?

      • sometime thursday last week and tuesday this week.

  • +1

They are not honoring this for existing customers. I'm on chat, and they are not giving $50……I'm an existing customer, in SA, and they said no

    • +2

Move away they will call to ask you to stay with them. I moved away last week and they called to offer $300 for electricity and $300 for gas to stay with them

  • Their website shows $100 for each bill. How can I apply for $225 for each bill ?

    • +1

What state are you in? My NSW one says $225 per service.

      • I am in NSW living in city

  • same rate I was getting at Red Energy, free $450. woohoo!

  • +3

Nope - no deal - AGL rep said only $100 credit for Elec in SA - new customer here.

    • Interesting… I was told the same and asked to cancel/cool off the contract. Shortly after they said the $225 would be honoured

    • I am in SA as well. Returning customer. I got it after a long chat with AGL https://imgur.com/unA6UO5

  • +4

$450 credit and AGL has basically the same electricity/gas price as I'm currently paying with Lumo? Sign me up!

  • +1

Nope, AGL refused to honor this deal. They said that this deal only applicable for someone who used to be AGL customers, then move to other company and wanting to go back to AGL. Since I've never been with AGL before, they refused to give me this deal. The best they could offer is $100 credit for electricity and $50 for gas

    • I spoke to a rep via chat and linked them the website and they honoured the $175 for both fuels (VIC) as credit

      • i just tried the same thing in VIC. They only offered $150 electricity & $50 gas credit.

        • i bit the bullet and signed up and ended up getting the $175 credit per fuel showing up in my account

  • +1

For people that churn electricity providers, are there any fees associated with it? Like connection/disconnection fees?

    • No fees

    • +2

      no fees

I used to get confused at this as well

these fees are if you call them to cancel/sign up and they have to send someone down to your place to disconnect/reconnect your unit for electricity

but to move to another electricity provider, you just need to sign up with the new company and they will take over from the old company, hence no disconnect/reconnect required and no fees

  • +3

Okay, AGL might get into trouble here. They're saying two different things on the same page:

"Get a one-off $225 (GST incl.) credit per fuel (electricity and gas) on your first bill when you switch your home energy to AGL from another supplier or move your home energy with AGL."

But the title says: "Enjoy up to $450 in sign-up credits when you switch back to AGL energy"

The main text says switch to AGL from another supplier. Nothing about being an AGL customer and then having to switch back to them from another provider.

    • This offer is for returning customers sent to them via email. OP has left that bit out.

      • +3

"Up to $450 in sign-up credits
Get a one-off $225 (GST incl.) credit per fuel (electricity and gas) on your first bill when you switch your home energy to AGL from another supplier or move your home energy with AGL. Or receive $50 per fuel (GST incl.) if you’re an existing customer and change to this plan."

So it should apply to everyone switching.

If it doesn't automatically, then enough complaining and threatening to go to the ombudsman should slrt it out.

  • what do they mean by fuel

  • worked this out, you will get one month free, as the daily and single tariff rate is ridiculous and the FIT is 3cents it's laughable people thing $250 is worth it. I have battery and solar this is not a good deal for these people

    • +1

people use different amounts of power thanu and also live in different areas than you so get charged different rates

      that's why they thing that

  • +1

super low feed in tarrif at 3c

  • +4

Never been with AGL. Signed up no issues, on my mainpage/overview section it indicates both bills will be discounted by $225 off. Doesn't seem you have to be a AGL customer.

  • Is there a cool down, I got a 200$ bonus from agl in May ?

  • It has pretty good offer for nbn too 6 months 100mbps $59

  • I'm confused now, if I've never been with AGL will i still get the $450?

    • Why not? New customer

      • +1

because it states if you "switch back" to agl - implying its for ex-agl customers.

        • I see. I was with them before. Might switch back but still waiting on two things: Origin elec $200 credit and Engie(Simply) gas $200 Mastercard from my last churn. Hoping this offer sticks around for a while before I churn back.

          • @slankets: Confirmed with live chat that only receive $100 credit if have not been an existing customer of AGL.

Any other good churn deals out there? Currently with red energy

            • +1

@Tool: i just moved to red energy seems to be the best on the market right now. They kept their prices the same

            • @Tool: So just to confirm if old customer and switch back they get $225

If new customer only get $100?

              • @ATTS: Correct, thats what the live chat told me. They were very clear that this deal is for people who have had an account with AGL previously. If you have never been with AGL, you will only receive $100 credit.
The rates are higher than Red Energy, my quarterly bill will be over $100 more expensive, so its not worthwhile.

                • +1

                  @Tool: Depends on your agent.

One of them said the same as you.

The other signed me up with $225 credit.
I already had electricity with agl, asked them if i could get $225 for moving my gas.
                  “No problem”

                • @Tool: I see thanks

  • -2

Ridiculous feed-in tariff. Not a deal for Solar generators.

    • How many c fit?

    • Where are you getting better than 3c?

  • Thanks, signed up for some free money. Works out to be $10 more expensive per month on average with AGL before the $450 credit

  • I'm with AGL for gas. Does anyone know if I will still get the $225 if I switch my electricity to them? Or just $50?

    • Prob just $50 because you're not new.

  • How long till they apply the $225 credit?

    • Should be instantly applied to account based on what others are seeing.

  • +1

AGL cold called me a few weeks back (in SA) and offered me $300 credit on gas and $300 credit on electricity. I was already a gas customer, not electricity.

The billing period for me on the plan offered is quarterly and the shoulder rate sucks so I need to endure 3 months of that before I get the credit. But… my next gas account bill was like 2 weeks after signing up and had the $300 credit applied. So that's not bad.

  • Newbi question, if I switched provider, should I contact previous provider to cancel my contract? Or it will be canceled automatically

    • The latter happens. They might call you to try and keep you with a retention offer.
