I signed up to these via Econnex and it mentioned the $200 welcome offer (im in vic)

+1 I did the same last night but it was called the balance plan

They are one of the most expensive providers in QLD by far…

    • it probably depends on the personal circumstances as always but looking at it, they don't charge a demand charge, and the daily rate is lower compared to what I'm on atm. the import fee of around 33 to 35cents is higher than others

Thanks for subsidising those in VIC and NSW ;)

  • what happens if you don't use up all the $200 in your first electricity bill?

    • -1

credit balance to use in future bills

        doesn't explicitly stated in this:
        Sign up credits
+ Offer available to eligible VIC residential customers who sign up to an electricity offer. Limit of one credit per energy account, per customer address. We may change or end this offer at any time. Credits will be applied to your first bill and are not transferable or redeemable for cash.

      should be forfeited

This language confused me on my Engie credit as well. It turns out that it means that the credit is applied to your account in the first bill, and stays there until it is spent.

      • stays there until it is spent.

is that your experience with this mob?

        • my experience has been yes for EA, though when I churned to the next place, they had an estimated bill which was 3x my usual usage. A phone call / threat of complaint to ombudsman got me a $100 bonus off my bill
Then once the next retailer does an actual meter read, you get back any extra you paid for the estimate (assuming usage fee /kwh is similar)

I want to churn but I'm still $300 in credit with Engie lol

They paid out my remaining credit balance when I moved to another provider ;)

      • Was your credit balance from a sign up offer, referrals, solar feed in or government credit?

I've assumed they wouldn't pay mine out as they have paid me a signup bonus and several referrals

        • +1

It was sign up credit, I churned too early and thought I’d lose the remaining credit of ~$40. I called up after receiving final bill which was in credit and called up, provided my bank details and received refund within 2-3 business days

  • Transferred to them last year using Cashrewards on same deal. Note subject to distributor they send electricity bill quarterly, which is odd as we are with another retailer bills are monthly. Anyway i have residual credit amount left so once CR is approved we'll churn to the provider.

    • Bill period/frequency is up to the retailer, not the distributor. Distributors read the meter quarterly - standard across QLD, NSW, SA and VIC

Dont forget about this deal - Switch Provider for Bonus Prepaid Mastercard (up to $400)

For me, moving to Powershop for Electricity would give me a $150 sign up credit, as well as the Econnex Prepaid Mastercard of $200.

  • Anything for ACT?

  • if i use cashrewards/SB, do i get cashback from CR/SB and 200$ signup bonus from EA as well ?

    • Yes

I was with them in June
What do they consider to be a new customer?

For what it's worth, I contacted Energy Australia via live chat regarding a similar question and was told that the offer is still valid "as long as you are from NSW or Victoria" and "currently with a different retailer" for energy, regardless of being a customer in the past.

Additionally, I was told they would make sure the credit is applied if I signed up via their live chat during the session. Hope that helps!

      • Thanks, that's great to hear

  • Tried to switch to EA for electricity and gas via Econnex today. Was advised that EA declined my application. I have excellent credit score and no unpaid bill. Could not figure out why it is declined. Anyone encountered similar situation?

  • Do you have to pay the site connection fee or disconnection fee quoted on Econnex when changing providers when at same address? I'm already with Red Energy.

    • No - if you're simply churn is different to a move out. Churn - you're simply authorising another retailer to take over the billing rights and as such, no disconnection fee.
Disconnection fees come from the distributor completing the job of coming out to the site/address and disconnecting the supply (considered a move out).
They charge a fee to retailers for the job which is passed onto the consumer.

  • What was that hit band back in the 60s… The Byrds wasn’t it?
    They had that hit song

    To everything, churn, churn, churn
There is a season, churn, churn, churn…
    …..

  • Too bad those of us who are renting in the immoral Embedded Network hell, have no ability to churn. We get no discounts, no anything.

  • Is everyone churning through Econnex and directly with providers for better cash?
Is there a page we can refer to for latest deals?

  • "Unfortunately, your application has been declined due to the outcome of your credit check." - well, that's a first.

  • wow a lot more $ on Jemena then I pay.
