They are pretty heavily subsidised by the Chinese govt anyway ATM. Tripadeal has $888 deals again.

In recently flew to Tokyo via Beijing return for under $600

        • +3

          Chairman*

          • +6

@abs898: Actually the formal title is indeed "President" these days, while Chairman is mostly reserved for Mao in English context.

            • @xmagic: Well you can see him too…. If I remember correctly, he is quite the stiff, silent type these days though…..

      • $888 deal has expired.

        • +4

They were going to do a half price special but it wasn't as popular

      • I remember back in 2017 I flew my wife and I to Beijing for $443 return each via Qantas. They just announced the route and were competing with the Chinese airlines. Absolute bargain. Her and I went to the Great Wall for her birthday. It was a great trip.

  • +5

This should make flight hacking easier right? A few years ago I found many good flights to Europe that required a domestic Chinese flight (and thus a visa)

    • +7

There's been transit visa since last year for Australia.

      • +1

I’m pretty there are heavy restrictions on the transit visa. You can’t just freely enter the country and go wherever you want then leave from another airport.

        • +3

Yeah, you have to enter and exit via the same region.

I recently used it but both entry and exit was via Beijing.

      • +3

144 / 72 hour visa-free transit for Australia has been around for a lot longer then a year. It might have been suspended during COVID, but I used it back in 2018 to enter Beijing.

  • +25

Saves me $100 and the time it would take to show up in person at the China Consulate for my upcoming trip in December.

    • -7

I always thought it was a fkn scam.

        • +16

You need to give us proof, not your assumption.

    • +2

show up in person at the China Consulate

So true. Me being a chinese citizen doesn't even want to deal with the consulate unless have to.

  • +26

This is a great deal for Chinese Australians or Aussies who travel to China often. The visa centres usually only give out 2-3 year visas and they are almost like $300. If this ends up becoming a long term arrangement families will save heaps!

      • +1

sounds good but how much $?

        • +3

          $184.5

        • I don't think they've put the schedule of fees up yet

    • +6

I doubt many Chinese Australians will go there for only 15 days though. Unless exiting to Hong Kong and returning on the same day works.

      • +6

        That actually works

      • +4

Many people with a Chinese connection keep an active visa at all times, in case emergency travel is needed. This change removes that need - now just an active passport is needed & jump on the next flight .

      • they do as school holidays during the year are 2 weeks.

    • +1

2-3 years? Gotta show you my passport which has 4x 12 month M Visas haha…… thanks to the change the current will be my last! This is going to make life heaps easier.

    • +28

I think you meant the USA.

      • +11

No they are really intimidating the Philippines and Taiwan they need putting in their place bring it on.

        • -3

Coal shipments will be suspended overnight if they attack Taiwan or Philipinne. Will bring China to a grinding halt.

          • +1

@hardya: China banned Oz Coal back in 2020. Does that mean China brought China to a grinding halt?

            • +2

@linxi5774: No but they suffered from rolling power outages and also purchased Australian coal from 3rd party indirectly from Australia paying a middle men.

              • +2

@spc12go: Really? Then why does that bloke think suspending coal shipment will bring China to a grinding halt?

                • -5

@linxi5774: Because if we wanted to cut them off, we actually would. Their cry bully sanctions in 2020 don't compare to actual economic warfare.

                  • -2

@JohnHowardsEyebrows: You just don't know how much I would love that to happen. We will get free electricity if we ban coal selling overseas, which is the only way to stop Oz Coal from going to China, only for domestic use.

                    • +5

@linxi5774: Banning coal going overseas will never happen, too many people will loose their job and government income will shrink.

Instead what should have happen is, nationalise all resources, pay mining company a fee for exploring and selling. Where majority of profits goes back to the people.

              • +2

@spc12go: True. Boss's face always is more important than economic benefits in China.

        • +7

Honestly, if anyone capable of leaning the history and context of the SCS mess beside the…”political corrected” narrative, you will be surprised how the Chinese can tolerate all those craps for almost 2 decades without going to war. I guess we are are lucky enough that the Chinese is not the American, yet…

      • +3

Ask someone from Vietnam what they think of China?

        • +1

They surely hate the Chinese gov a lot, but not the normal people. Brainwashing the Chinese residents about the ownership of the islands out there.

        • +1

Why would anyone seeking a factual and objective opinion go to a biased source and ask for a completely biased opinion?

      • +2

USA is not shining laser into Australian aircrafts in international waters?
        https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.com/news/world-australi…

USA is not using sonars to injure Australian navy personnel in international waters?
        https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.abc.net.au/article/10312900…

USA is not detonating flares onto Australian Helicopters in international waters.
        https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.abc.net.au/article/10381204…

This is just just China's action against Australia. Phillipines, Vietnam and Taiwan etc are facing much worse. I wonder what China will do when they become #1 superpower. New world order being created by China with help of its allies Russia, North Korea and Iran.

        • +1

Look, I hate the CCP as much as the next (thinking) guy, and won't be going to the PRC as long as they're in power, but it is true that they've been a little chastened recently (Ukraine illustrated the democratic world is still more than capable of squashing the autocracies of the world if it wants to), and USA under Trump would entirely undo most of what people are legitimately proud of being Western for.
And they're also ageing very quickly for a country which has yet to become rich.

        • -2

How do you know what USA is doing, if you are using USA tools ?

        • -2

Don't forget China is also mucking around with India.

TIL that they're taking over ports in Sri Lanka and building forward military bases there. Same with Pakistan /Bangladesh with failed loans. And finally, a state called Himanchel Pradesh is also being claimed as Chinese territory.

Not to mention their antics in the Chinese sea, building fake islands.

          • +9

@Lord Ra: India should focus on what matters to their civilians.
GangGrape culture, feeding their citizens, housing their citizens, building a toilet or two.
And nice fake news about Himananchel Pradesh lmao

            • @TightAl: Yep, agreed! Let me add to that list. Better education, invest more into policing, and health. The three pillars of society where they constantly fail.

Safer roads, constant electricity, and drinking water for all would be a step in the right direction. We can keep going.

And yep, sorry, I got the name wrong, it was the other Pradesh, here's the source from Wikipedia

    • +10

Doubtful. China sees the cost of war. Embargoes devastating Russia economy. Millions of lives lost with not much to go for it except an Ukraine being better defended than ever. China wants Taiwan something fierce, but the CCP is a lot less autocratic than people think. The Central Committee actually has the power to remove the chairman, and if the party as a whole wished it then they would be free to do it. Xi actually can't go mad and start wars that achieve nothing and go nowhere. The world arming itself against China is not in China's best interests, right now anyway. China is about to win the Economic Victory (in Civ terms) by becoming the single largest economy on the planet. There's a reason science fiction often shows a future dominated by Chinese culture and technology.

      • +1

That’s why they are moving away from US foreign reserve and trying to get their trading partner to deal in Chinese Yuen. Decoupling from the USD, risk management or mitigation.

        • Well, the war sure has unintended consequences.

      • +4

There's a reason science fiction often shows a future dominated by Chinese culture and technology.

        Because it's fiction?

  • +1

Time to spend some money in China!

  • +2

    wow nice. I’m going!

  • +10

Hmm, can I extend another 15 days by going to Hongkong or another country and come back to Mainland. That's 30 days visa free!

    • -1

That's the thing it doesn't say if HK, Macau and Taiwan counts or not

    • +1

If your return flight from China is after the 15th day you might run into trouble trying to explain that you are going to Hongkong via train before the 15th. Hotel bookings might help but I guess we don't know yet.

I would be awesome if it would be so though :)

      • +1

That's my thought as well. I am fine to visit HK, Macau to renew the 15 days visa free. Question is really when first enter China mainland, custom might ask why is the return ticket is more than 15 days.

  • -2

Might be more than 15 days if you end up getting detained indefinitely.
My advice is watch what you do and say because there are cameras everywhere.

    • +4

      Why you had issues?

      • +9

nah but his mates on facebook probably told him he would

    • +9

I don't know of any place with more cameras than London.

      • +3

Can assure that China has more, and unlike London, they aren’t for show. There’s a reason crime rates are shockingly low, you’d be caught straight away

        • +1

          Yeh can agree

All the pickpockets and most non cyber criminals have pretty much disappeared in the cities

Haven't seen any beggars around recently

can't say the same in rural

          • +1

@Poor Ass: Exactly, the A.I tools they have to identify people from their CCTV footage makes it near impossible to get away with anything caught on camera

            • +2

@cille745: Yet they can’t find missing people in China

              • -1

@spc12go: Are you talking about back in the day?

                • +1

@Poor Ass: Nope, people go missing in China and the governor/police are not able to find them. Like missing children from child abduction and others. And they remain largely unfound.

However they can find people who dare to say anything remotely negative about the government.

            • @cille745: All you need are the eyes… Can't even cover with face mask

        • +3

USA and China have similar number of CCTV cameras per capita.

    • +40

I've lived and worked in China for 15 years and none of my foreign friends, me (gweilo) nor my customers ever had any issues with the authorities there.

Just don't do drugs, drive drunk or f around drunk in public and you'll have no issues.

China is one of the safest countries to visit in the world.

        • +7

Yeh I much prefer school shootings, tent cities, crumbling infrastructure.
          Amendments baby.

          • @TightAl: You mean you prefer kid stabbing, tofu drag infrastructure, unfinished apartments and organ harvesting.

Because USA is so unsafe you have Chinese doing all their can to enter the US illegally. But I don’t see American entering China illegally.
Also Chinese government top brass send their kids to the US and acquire asset and residency too. Man what an safe place to be.

So where is Xi’s daughter studying currently I wonder.

Oh I almost forgot, my favourite. “Female” runner from China gone viral https://www.reddit.com/r/kuttichevuru/comments/ou0me2/chines…

            • +2

@spc12go: USA has one of the highest incarceration rates in the world. I’m not sure if that makes less safe or more safe.

Some ppl here need to educate themselves on a whole range of metrics. Google up about child labour laws in the USA for example…. Or infant mortality…. Or life expectancy…. Or gun deaths in schools…..

              • @Eeples:

USA has one of the highest incarceration rates in the world. I’m not sure if that makes less safe or more safe.

Locking up violent criminals makes things safer. Anyone with a functioning brain knows this.

Some ppl here need to educate themselves on a whole range of metrics.

The first one would be logic. When did this conversation switch from being about China to the USA?

There's an easy way to measure this, given a free choice how many people to to move permanently to China and how many move from China?

            • +4

              @spc12go: LOL
Tofu dreg? You know China is a developing country? At least apply some sort of critical thinking before you blast off.
You obviously don't own any property in Canberra. They got crumbling concrete too.

You also know what China doesn't have? a shortage of housing for 1.5B. You talk of unfinished apartments as an issue, that's a private company matter. Nice critical thinking.

There's poor/unfortunate people from all countries trying to enter US illegally, don't understand your point.

Uh more mental decay. What's a female runner got to do wit anything? Like Lia Thomas?
              https://au.news.yahoo.com/transgender-swimmer-lia-thomas-los…

              • @TightAl: That’s because we have laws in place that stops you tearing shit down when and where you want and feel like.

We respect the people that live there. We don’t treat citizen like present and pests

Fundamentally we respect people’s rights. The government of China wait CCP party does what it feels like and do want give a damn about the people of a China.

You talk about China been a developing country, wait you said China has far more superior infrastructure and wealth than Taiwan, while Taiwan is technically a developed country. So what is it? You don’t get to pick and choose what suits your argument.

            • @spc12go: The western brainwashing is very successful indeed. Throwing accusation without looking at mirror. Typical western double standards.

              • -1

@Ayadan: Typical western my ass, typical CCP trained mouth peice, who banns the entire internet and brain washes the masses with their own propaganda.

Look in the mirror it’s the whole world against the CCP except your dad Russia and your Bro North Korea.

It’s unlikely the whole world is brained washed except the axis of evil

                • @spc12go: See how good Western media brainwashed you with their own propaganda. The "whole world" is doing a great job against "axis of evil". Oh and don't talk while there is an American's dick in your mouth.

            • @spc12go: The first few are somewhat true but what about the organ harvesting part? Is this some kind of Falungong BS?

And I don't understand even remotely how the female runner part relates with the conversation. Are you saying Chinese athletes use hormones (which is true for some, just like how almost the entire US swimming team have asthma?) Or are you going the more absurd route that "China makes genetically engineering transgender babies for sports competition" lmao

              • @ugulgif: They are not female. They are male athlete pretend to be female. Which have since been struck off the list in China. Their name and record are all gone since they started to test hormonal level.

It’s a place where people will use any mean to get ahead. Even pretend to be someone who you are not.

I am trying to high light how superior China is compare to rest of the world.

          • +2

            @TightAl:

Yeh I much prefer school shootings, tent cities, crumbling infrastructure.

If you prefer China to Australia you are welcome to move. Why aren't you doing that?
            Words, actions…

            • +2

@1st-Amendment: I'm calling a doctor for you to book you an MRI appointment and get your brain checked. Obviously it's not functioning well :) You're welcome.
