The visa-free entry policy applies to all open sea, land, and air ports to foreign citizens

This is great for those who enter China via Hong Kong!

  • Around year 2035, the competition between China and USA in west pacific will end and there will be a winner, no matter which country can win in the end, we won't hear so much nonsense as we do now.

    • +1

I am not so positive, after all those lies, BS and hatred around for so long. And the Chinese had been silenced as a dead rock since 2008. This free visa event is, maybe the last peace attempt from their elder CCP leadership, as their 60s or70s had been through hell so maybe more keen to avoid the war, but those younger Chinese gens are not so much “Confucius” anymore.
Just a week ago, 3 Americans got stabbed in the park after they bumped into a 55yrs old Chinese pedestrian and a Chinese was wounded too while trying to stop the attacker. Then, just few days ago, there was a random knife attack targeting 2 Japanese immigrants, and a Chinese Samaritan, a brave Chinese lady, was killed while trying to save these 2 Chinese Japanese.
But even for such tragic events, here we are still seeing some PoS trashes are using those tragic news to mock the Chinese and its government, I don’t care what you are hating but this is just way too low.
I have seen enough, and I bet the Chinese younger gens have seen more than enough, eventually even the Chinese will collapse to such hatred, and the madness will follow. But can you really blame the Chinese people for seeking revenge on this ugly broken world that have wronged them for so long?
Let’s be real, the US is forming an Asian NATO, with an almost delusional thinking that the Chinese will just kneel as the Japanese. If we are foolish enough follow the US with all its insanity, hatred and lies, then we all deserve the madness, and there won’t be any 2035 peaceful time. There will be the end before that, for us all.

Take a look at these two news stories. The government’s intentional control of speech and the incitement of xenophobic nationalism are starting to show consequences.

    • So I'm guessing you're out

      • I don't need to guess to know that you got at least two doses of the vaccine in the past three years, but you still haven't learned your lesson.

Must take some real mental gymnastics to paint all 1.5B with the same brush.
Why don't you post up some links to Bondi Westfields. Australian governments intentional incitement of x y z resulted in 6 deaths.

      • +4

A country that supports the Russian dictatorship has granted you visa-free entry. Congratulations! You can continue to pay double for your car's fuel and enjoy higher interest rates, right?

If you don't like Australia, you can leave. After all, the dictatorship country has given you visa-free entry. Isn't this a good opportunity?

What is there not to like about Australia with a free visa into the PRC?

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: What I don’t like is that they claim to be the safest country in the world. Yet, the national media never report on criminal cases.

Liars don’t deserve respect, do they?

            • +2

@Hi Hi Hi: They are, PRC is a safe place for the general public, particular in the major cities.

Probably more confident to walk down an alley in Shanghai than some random place in Sydney.

Like I said, when in Rome, act like Romans.

              • -2

@[Deactivated]: China has no investigative journalists. You can check the International Press Freedom Index; China ranks at the bottom. All criminal cases and incidents like explosions are never mentioned or reported by the official media. Is such an environment, where there is no public discussion, safe?

Europe, due to far-left leaders like Merkel, has seen a massive influx of Middle Eastern refugees. This has greatly changed the demographic composition of the local population. Europe is already suffering the consequences, but fortunately, the UK and Australia have not brought in refugees on such a large scale.

The solution to the refugee problem is to make refugees willing to return to their own countries, rather than indiscriminately becoming your neighbors.

                • +3

@Hi Hi Hi: Yes. And the point is? (Particularly wrt the OP of a "free" visa).

One thing people need to realise is that, living in isolation in today's globalisation does not work.

Personally, as much as I try to source things locally (food, clothing etc) is not always possible. Those saying no China should really start tossing their phone and other PRC made items into the bin.

At least for foreigners, it is relatively safe. This is purely a transaction that the PRC offers free visa, an average Jo/Bob goes there and spend his/her money.

If anything not being reported about Aussies being killed in the PRC, DFAT shares part of that responsibility.

As much as I am not a fan of the PRC, prosperity for an average PRC citizen, the government has done the right thing by its people (the general population does not even think with half their brain, unfortunately), particularly in civil order. Consequently, liberty is taken away to a certain extent. The opposite as an example, are idiots rioting in opposing to COVID lockdown measures (whether the rioters understand why they are out there is irrelevant). There are always two sides to one coin.

What I am trying to say is, there's the political side which a different forum (or a proper academic discussion for that matter) is more suitable. It's a free visa that usually waste of time to get - not a bad deal by any stretch. People not going in with a free visa, would not have gone in whilst a visa is needed anyway, so no impact whatsoever.

@Vampy: OK, a supporter of Russia, Hamas, China, Iran, North Korea, BLM, cultural Marxism, and dictators.

Go to China; that’s your true spiritual home.

            • @Hi Hi Hi:

Hi Hi Hi OK, a supporter of Trump and Israel imperialism.

Go to the US and Israel.. that's your true spiritual home.

              • @Crazy John Howard: Supporter of Hamas, don’t just talk about it; take action quickly. At the very least, buy a ticket and go there to show your support.

People should align their actions with their words. Don’t just offer verbal support. Remember to take your whole family with you. Good times should be enjoyed together!

        • Lmao thinking the russia war is why Australia has high interest rates / high fuel prices.

It's got nothing to do with America printing trillions LMAO derp.

I never said i don't like Australia, nice of you to assume. I can see how well your education served you lmaooo russia war = inflation LOL

          • @TightAl: If your math wasn’t taught by a PE teacher, you wouldn’t be so ridiculous and arrogant. Russia ranks second in the world for oil and gas exports. This is also why the dictator Putin can threaten European countries.

During the pandemic, all countries engaged in quantitative easing. Otherwise, how would you have lived and eaten when you weren’t working during the pandemic? Should all small business owners have gone bankrupt? Are you blaming the governments for subsidizing their citizens?

You truly have no idea about your own ignorance.

            • @Hi Hi Hi: You're so naive it's actually hilarious. The NordSteam must have self imploded in your brain.
There's QE and there's US QE, if you devalue the dollar what happens? you continue to pay the same? LOL
I lived and ate pretty well during the pandemic, if you didn't, that's on you.

              • +1

@TightAl: Then you should live during the pandemic. It's clear that you really miss that period. Since you were doing so well, you should be grateful to the U.S. QE even if gasoline prices are high.

What would happen if only Australia did QE while the U.S. did not? You have no logic in your thinking.

They will not only control their own ppl's speech, but also use millions of their cyber army to use disinfomation and mislead users. You all can see how many spy ids are trying to mute comments that they don't like.

    • think youre talking about how we have whistle-blower laws that send journalists to jail for exposing our government's crimes?

or how our buddy buddy USA did this because they can?

or how our social platforms intentionally make videos revealing the truth during the hk riots impossible to view while our news media only promote it as peaceful protests?

yeah nah, you're definitely not talking about us, right?

  • 1)Do you need to organise this free visa before hand / online quick one OR
    2) Do you get this free visa once you arrive in china ( visa on arrival) OR
    3) there is no need for visa whatsoever, Austrailian passport holders are exempt from visa requirement of any kind as long as it is no more than 15 days..

I wonder which one is really true? Newsin different newspapers are not really clear ?

    • The way I understood it, is that it's Visa on-arrival, at the airport.

This was extended to AU , NZ and PL citizens.

However, your query does raise a valid point,
ie. should the 15-day Visa be arranged from country of origin before flying to CN ?

Last year, I received the 24-hour transit Visa inside China, after arrival, just by showing the onward flight ticket.

      • +1

We have just travelled via Beijing to Istanbul and the whole family was refused visa on arrival (72/144hours) without mentioning any reason whatsoever and that too after going through really long ques of passengers waiting to be served by just one lady. TBH Unless it's an exemption from visa requirement, I LL be thinking twice before booking our family holidays via China.

        • Tbh if you have any granted visa prior to arrival you can still be refused entry upon arrival, and that's true for any country. I won't worry about it if your visit is legitimate and you are of good character. While your experience is certainly weird, not sure how much, if any, of transiting via a third country (eg China) played a part in been refused entry to the final country (Turkey).

          • @assailantsky: There was at least one other family which faced exactly same situation and had to stay in the airport with us for nearly 20 hours before our flight to istanbul.

          • +1

@assailantsky: China's been known for denying visa-on-arrival to people with Turkish stamps for a while (just google it). I think it's because it's a common transfer point into Syria, etc.

    • 1) no
      2) yes, if they deem that you meet the requirements of this visa, i.e. visiting relatives, tourism, business
      3) no, you still need to apply for a visa for other specific purposes, e.g. journalism, diplomatic etc, and if you want to visit longer than 15 days for the purposes covered by the visa-free entry.

  • Does anyone have tips on how to find cheap(er) hotel accommodation in Beijing and/or Shanghai ?

I've checked Booking.com and it's quite expensive in Beijing.

    • +2

Try trip.com and check hotel policies. Look for : Guests Accepted Guests from every country/region are accepted

      example:

      https://imgur.com/ZHjG2mG

      • Another part of the recent changes is that hotels cannot refuse foreign guests.

        • Still better to choose those that stated they accept foreign guests, for convenience and less trouble.

      • Look for : Guests Accepted Guests

I had never thought to even look at this.

        Thanks for this tip !

    • +1

How cheap? There are 5 star hotels that cost about AU$120 a night where you can walk in and make a booking on the spot. And there are 3 star hotels with cockroaches and smoke for AU$60 nearby. Sometimes it's worth a bit extra to not have a bad experience.

  • +1

It seems like a lot of people here have some interesting consensus on China, such as social credit system. Can anyone tell me where I can find more information about this?

    • +2

Nah, long story short, they do not have such social credit system, some of their private firms or local government may had tested it long before but eventually dropped it. But here, seems everyone like to mock or troll the Chinese for having a nonexistent social credit system for so long that we have forgot we are actually carrying one with our banks.

But no matter, we will just continue to mock or troll the Chinese with that imaginary social credit system till the day we die.

  • +4

The amount of trolls here is amazing.

Nah, the CCP doesn’t really care whether you are critical towards it or just want to fcuk around, you’re still invited and that’s why Australia gets this visa free arrangement.

  • Nice deal

Fun to visit - The land of almost everything feels unusually minature.

  • +1

    Communism. lol

  • 10 year Australian passport is increasing from $346 to $398 on 1st July 2024.

    • +2

meanwhile NZs is cheaper, quicker and done all online including photos.
Gotta lov Au Government, always thinking for the people

    • +1

      It’s $52 increase for a 10 years PP.
That’s $5.2 per year. Not too big of a deal IMO

  • +11

Can't believe all the anti China vitriol on this thread…start a new different thread! Don't go to China if you don't want too…no one is forcing you to!

This 15 day Visa free entry to China makes it so much easier and cheaper to go to China for family reasons, business meetings etc, tourism and transit purposes.

A short return flight to Hkg, Japan etc resets the 15 day clock I believe.

    • HKG is part of China. ;)

      • +1

It'll probably reset the 15 days like with other visas.

There's a nice hack where someone in Victoria from mainland China can get a driver licence from Hong Kong, without living in Hong Kong, and then bypass testing requirements when converting the licence to a Victorian driver licence.

        From VicRoads:
        China

Based on your age, driving experience and the country your licence is from, you will need to do the following tests:

Learner Permit Test (also called the Road Laws Knowledge Test)
        Hazard Perception Test
        Drive Test.

        Hong Kong

Based on your age, driving experience and the country your licence is from:

You do not need to do any tests.
You do need to have an appointment at VicRoads so we can check your licence and identity.

        https://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/licences/new-to-victoria/con…

        • Nice hack.

  • Just commenting to make the comments count go up

  • +2

    Soft influence strategy.

It will be harder for western countries citizens to support a war with china if they have been there.

    • The PRC is loosing that war, then. We've received a lot of people (including educating them) from the PRC.

  • Worth it!

I heard everything is really cheap, to the point that there is a small joke that everyone complaining about the cost of living in Australia should move there and work remotely.

    • It's not. Some cities are more expensive than Sydney.

    • Depends on what your buying, if you'd ok with street food style things it's cheaper, tbh the same price if you want Sydney good food quality.

Clothing etc. I found was much cheaper there and public transport was so cheap it was basically free.

Nothing I saw was outrageously priced, unlike a simple trip to Coles these days.

  • love it

  • Great deal, learn about the culture and people as well as their governance.

  • +5

    my advice:
    1. setup wechat pay and alipay before you go
    2. install translate app as most people can not speak English
    3. Open your roaming to access google&FB

    • +2
      1. install a VPN (most things don't work without one)
      2. use a burner phone so as not to provide the contents of your device to the local authorities

@punter1 if you are insisting on spreading misinformation here. You need to get your facts right… Do a Google of those two gentlemen and tell me if they are normal tourist.

      • +1

these 2 michaels who were proven to be spies and who got a pay out from the Canadian government for it?

To be fair, smart traveler always errs on the super cautious side.

"Islamic extremism, extreme right-wing ideology and the status of Northern Ireland contribute to the threat. Always be alert to terrorism. Take official warnings seriously."

I won't be planning to go UK for this, that's for sure.

  • To be honest I would be keen to visit but what about t he rumours of COVID which is still going around in China.😌

    • +3

Like it's still going around Australia, and many other places?

  • -3

wouldn’t do it you’ll get CCP bat virus spyware, you’ll be unwittingly mining bitcoin for the rest of your life

    • +5

Nah, that virus only work on white trash.

  • If you arrive on the day 1 and you are in the international terminal, past customs, on your country exiting flight on the day 15, and it turns the 16th day while you are waiting inside the plane to depart, will you be violating the visa-free conditions?

    • +2

No, as you went past immigration on day 15, that's what counts. You technically can stay in the terminal indefinitely and not considered to be in violation of your visa if I'm not mistaken.

      • +1

You technically can stay in the terminal indefinitely

Yes, and not return back to Krakozhia (Кракожия)

  • Lets say you have bird flu and can't fly back. Is there a jail term if you over stay ?

    • +1

A mate of mine recently went to China, caught swine flu at a wet market, couldn't leave and got 6 months at the Zhazi Cave concentration camp.

Really makes you question if deals like this are worth it…

      • +1

Did they harvest any of his organs while he was banged up?

      • for your purpose maybe change it to 6 years so it sounds more horrible

  • +1

That this is a deal speaks volumes of OzB in 2024

  • Does the visa include visiting Wuhan virus lab?

    • How inane.

      • i would like to confirm the WHO claims of the origins

  • China’s decision to open up this visa is likely to attract tourists, thereby boosting its currently underperforming economy. It also simplifies the visa process for Chinese citizens needing to return home urgently for short visit. Additionally, due to China’s limited openness, information about the country has often been shaped by biased media sources. This visa policy could help counteract such misinformation.

    • +1

Currently, Australia has no journalists operating within the PRC. They all left after midnight visits by the Chinese police or their 12 month visas were not renewed.

Australia journalists reporting on China are now operating from Taiwan or Hong Kong.

If China wants more accurate reporting by Australia journalists, it will have to let some return.
