Oh no. The one feature everyone wants on their gaming/productivity laptop.
      Put it in the bin!

      • I personally wouldn't buy a productivity laptop without a touchscreen.

        Gaming… probably not as important.

        • +30

I would never buy a laptop with a touchscreen- more fragile screen and damn that glare, broken up only by smudged fingerprints.

          • @rumblytangara: touchscreens on windows laptops are more robust - all glass, no plastic, seamless, no join with a raised surround. Spillproof. Knifeproof.

Macbooks, though lacking touch, have been this way in screen design for years.

The trick with a touchscreen is to never touch it, and to stick on a transparent matt overlay. those steps avoid glare and smudges.

            • @mantichoral:

touchscreens on windows laptops are more robust - all glass, no plastic,

Yeah, that's kind of my point- a big yet thin slab of glass is not what I want in a laptop. I want plastic- it's got a tiny bit of flex built into it.

        • +3

Windows is absolutely the worst OS for touch screens. What exactly do you need to have touch enabled for?

        • +14

Got a surface pro at work and I've literally never used the touch screen in the 3 years I've had it, except for the times I try to wipe a piece of dirt off the screen and accidentally start dragging things around :D

        • +4

Crazy how touchscreen on laptops emerged back in 2012 together with Win 8 release and still has not gained traction after more than 10 years.

          • @ripesashimi: There are plenty of options for people who want 'em. Just seems that most people don't want touchscreens for fully fledged computers with a keyboard/trackpad.

Outside of graphic design, I can't really imagine a compelling use case for them. Especially given the downsides. And even then I doubt they're as sensitive as something like a Wacom tablet.

          • @ripesashimi: Haven't you noticed the amount of 2in1 laptop variants? Touchscreen has been popular already in Windows laptops.

      • +6

What do you mean? I need a touch screen to play Candy Crush!

    • +2

      It's a very good price!

    • +1

      Seriously?

    • +2

I have literally never touched the screen of my three touchscreen laptops I've owned.

      • then how do you open and close the laptops?

        • +1

You don't need to touch the screen to do that…

    • +1

Poor guy got negged to a different dimension! grabs popcorn let's see what else happening

  • +1

Will this get stung with extra taxes on delivery? Usually Amazon include them all right?

    • -3

      No on tax

      • +1

        Are you sure?

    • +7

Being over $1000, i'd say there's a good chance GST will be added/collected by Amazon..

      • +2

$1000 hasn't mattered for many years. Amazon Au automatically adds GST on all international purchases

  • +2

says 4060 gpu, do they perform the same as a 4060 in a tower?

    • +2

Unlikely, without searching it out, I can tell you mobile counterparts are usually smaller in transistors for size and power, hence their performance will be less.
They are geared to reduce heat and power consumption, and may throttle more too.
Would it be equal to or better than a desktop 4050, the answer is yes most likely… how much it lies between is anyone's guess, but it'll still perform fairly well.

      • +15

Nope, not this time, well the desktop is 9% faster.

RTX 4060 desktop was reviled for being such a stinker of a GPU, but for mobile, they put the exact same die in laptops and it turns out it works well in laptops and gets very similar performance.

Any other situation and you'd be right, its just that the desktop version is using the laptop die.

        • +7

          The more you know… thanks.

          • @Commodore64: This was the same for the 3060 too, but they gave it less VRAM. But it's not the same for the other 4000 series cards.

    • +1

Go buy and test it, and let us know

      • yep just bought one

    • +8

For the 4060, both parts (mobile and desktop) performs similarly because it is very efficient.

The gap widens for 4070 and above: https://www.reddit.com/r/GamingLaptops/comments/14t4omp/lapt…

  • +4

    wow just bought thanks

    • Let's see what comes first, apprently it's a 3k AUD laptop selling for 1k, so unlikely to be honoured.

Also reviews provided by another user show you'll get a lemon, aka some other junk laptop and its false advertising.

If true, Deal of the year, if false, just another unfortunate price error/e-waste offloading scam.

      • Yeh I guess Amazon refund if that's the case

        • User @Jumanjii just discovered the product code links to here:

          https://www.ldlc.com/en/product/PB00592103.html

Laptop price in Euros = 1,060 AUD

Yeah, people will be able to get refunds cuz Amazon, but a deal is not being had today.

BUT, I will be happy to be proven wrong :D

          • @dbmitch: Yel I cancelled my order. Ceebs dealing with scam/dispute. And if it turns out legit, then I missed out on a deal on a laptop I didn't need or use often and in 4 years woulda probably depreciated to less than 1,000 anyway

            • @Jaduqimon: I wouldn't have cancelled just to see if true, Amazon return is always very painless.

BUt I do share the sentiment, its simply just way to outrageously cheap and dubious sourced to believe right now.

But we shall see, but I do find it very unlikely the seller is going to part with many 3k laptops for 1k.

And will be more likely everyone is about to receive Lenovo V15 G4 IAH from France

The big killer for me was the French Keyboard layout thou, AZERTY layout

              • @dbmitch: Yeh I kno but you have to go livechat and explain etc I have better things to do and I didn't really need the laptop lol

            • +1

@Jaduqimon: any tech if you wait 4 years it will depreciate like crazy… lol

              • @SS625: Ya that's my point. I'll buy it and it will sit there 4 years miminal usage and end up being 1k anyway lol

              • @SS625: Ya that's my point. I'll buy it and it will sit there 4 years miminal usage and end up being 1k anyway lol

    Delivery is December?

    • +1

      Time for black friday

      • Black Friday in June (July)

    • +3

My bad, if you choose free delivery like OP said, its 14 days… I got one :D

      • So paid delivery is longer?

        • apparently.

      • I did same mistake in hurry. Do you think they will ship soon or do we need to wait for another couple of months? I called CS and requested to change it to free shipping but she said “she couldn’t do that”.

My order status says… “Not yet shipped. We will email you when available”.

Given that it is no longer available… if they don’t ship soon, will they cancel the order or replace with another similar laptop?

  • -7

Too bad it's IPS and not OLED, but for the specs you're getting you can't really complain. Is the CPU overkill for a 4060m? The same one is also being used in the 4090 laptop deals as well

    • I am not sure if OLED is ideal for computer use. THey may get burned in after some time, and it will be hard to be replaced.

      • It's not particularly hard to change a laptop display these days. It's like a 5 minute job including powering the laptop down and up again after. If you're comfortable with changing RAM you'd be fine with it after watching a video.

But yeah, I don't get why you'd particularly an OLED over IPS either.

        • It’s not that easy. Some screen are now glued to the back cover like the Dell I got. If it was screwed yes but not glued.

And I wonder the high res screen from AliExpress are good quality or not

          • @spc12go: Surely not a gaming laptop to have the screen glued in. Thats awful. I wouldnt particularly be buying from aliexpress though.

  • +1

How does warrenty work for things like this? Like if it comes damaged just contact Amazon?

    • -2

      You can contact lenovo

    • +6

I purchased $1,200 of hard drives, imported by Amazon US.

Was able to contact Amazon via chat (AU), ship it back for free and get a refund without any question asked.

Refund took a bit longer than when shipping back within AU.

      • Just trying to return a tool from Amazon Germany without 30 days and it charges $7 drop-off fee or some soft. Thought it was free.

        • Got to choose the right reason for return.

          Try "didn't approve purchase"

          • @easternculture: It's actually within 30 days and I chose "no longer needed" as thought would be the same. I'll that next time, cheers!

            • +1

@bcYield: "No longer needed" charges postage, I've tried it before then chose something else

  • +5

Don't forget this would have a German keyboard

    • +7

      Excellent. Time to learn german

    • -1

how hard will it be to replace key caps?
it appears from grainy picture 'enter' key is not the L shape

    • -5

I reckon it would be English letters….all Germans learn English in school.

      • You're joking, right?

        • +4

I wasn't, but looking back It was a massive brain fart moment lol….

    • +4

Model number = 83FS000CFR = quick google search says the keyboard is French

      • +11

        the keyboard is French

        Olala

      • +3

        oh…that would be a problem

      • +14

What's a French keyboard? Makes disapproving grunts every time you type something in English?

        • You also can’t/don’t use half of letters.

          • +6

@Azro: Oh, you use them. In fact you use them twice as much.

            You just never pronounce them.

    • external keyboard will do

    • AZERTY gang

      • azert ur superiority ✊🏻

    • Keyboard layout can be changed easily in Windows. If you can touch type, then it's irrelevant what's actually printed on the keys themselves.

      • I am aware of that. I grew up in Austria so the German layout would be no issue for me anyways, but some may struggle

  • -1

    It’s showing $1273 to me

    • did you check the price in checkout after adding in cart?

    • OOS. 'usually dispatches 6-7months'

    • Yes after adding it was 1082 but now out of stock

  • Says it might just arrive for Christmas Day!

    • +3

look at the 2nd option for free shipping

      • Delivery by Santa option?
