      • Sorta. They have aggressive styling cues but lack the presence

        • Agreed. The seal is a big heavy sedan. It looks like it could be something special but it’s just a bit different to a Tesla but really just the same and not quite as good in many ways

          • +1

@choofa: It’s frustratingly close to looking good. It needed to be wider with flared guards I think. I dunno it’s just missing some thing.

            • @Brick Tamland: It’s too generic and conservative and doesn’t have its own style. Just blends in. When it’s gone past you you go oh yeah that was a seal

  • +6

Have the Performance. Brilliant car. Better styling than the 3. One of those always look back at it kind of cars. Crazy quick in a straight line. Grips like a cat on carpet even on stock tyres on the few turns I've been able to find. Interior is well thought out, luxurious, lacks nothing. Heated and ventilated seats, heated steering wheel and mirrors, remote start, app control and tracking. Head up display, high-resolution screen in front of driver, and huge screen in the centre with choice of landscape or portrait rotation. Wireless charging and android auto, and apparently wireless car play is coming over the air shortly. Huge rear seat room. Sound system is great. Glass roof is actually good, and kinda cool. Dunno what else to add…
If you can get one on a Novated lease under the current EV deal, it's an easy decision.

    • +1

Had my Performance for 6mths now and completely agree!

    • Latest update can be manually loaded if you can be bothered. I’ve got the wireless CarPlay going in my atto 3 now and it’s been a great improvement.

    • looking forward to the EV people mover. We don't have much choices here in AU. Can only choose between Carnival/Odyessy/V class

      • The shape would make sense for EVs, I would have thought.

      • Mifa 9?

    • Everything has better styling than the Tesla 3.

  • TSLA model 3 for 60K (most likely drop) or Seal for 58K

    • +1

I take the highland model 3 despite hating Elon pro trump propaganda

    • +1

Seal premium would be the suggestion. If you don't care about driving and it's just transportation, then maybe consider the 3.
I don't like the new changes to the Tesla which appear to have removed practicality and convenience just for the sake of changes. I want my car to still feel like a car. And it's silly not having screens or a HUD in front of the driver.

    • Tesla Model 3

  • +3

With EV car prices dropping so fast, no rushing to get one right now.
Besides, there are more Chinese cars coming to Australia next year.
    More competitions, better for consumers.

    • +1

Most of these brands are premium and probably gonna be priced higher than BYD. Probably with exception of Jaecoo and Leapmotor.

    • Depends on their dealer network

      And long term plans

  • +3

    Call me when it’s 30K off .

    • That will be 5 years second hand model

      • +6

        5 years? You mean 2

Looks way better than Tesla and BYD

    :D

    I love the stock

    • +4

The design team needs to be shot. The proportions are whack. Looks AI generated

      • Probably were high on weed during design brainstorming sessions

        • Chris Brown owns one of the cars

          But I like the stock

Got in at 0.04cents :D Look at it now, maybe it will go to 1000

        • +3

Is this car a joke. The descriptions are hilarious. AI controlled body and this one Our expertly crafted coach doors are designed to welcome you into the world of digital entertainment. I am dead. What a riot.

Far out. Half the sentences don’t even make sense.

Door cladding light - inspiring UFO landing simulation. WTF??

Oh god and it just goes on

Using AI to enhance the time and space during commutes, providing greater value to users per unit time

Thanks this is the stupidest and funniest thing I’ve seen in a long time.

          • @Brick Tamland: Hahaha, you sound like someone who hasn't experienced Integrated multi-axis torque technology system for AI propulsion, steering and braking.

            • @Mrgreenz: Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic or BS.

  • -1

Their car configuration website looks like a copy of Tesla's one!
No idea why would anyone consider this over Model 3 or Y, heaps better quality

    • +2

You need to drive it. BYD is another higher level. Tesla so basic and cheap door close. Flat seats.
No indicator. Battery that doesnt like being charged to 100%. No dash to see your speed. Did i mention you cant indicate around a corner because you cant find the indicator button in real life driving?
Cost cutting to the max. And tesla fans make out like its no biggie. What a laugh. Man i wish i could get the byd asap.

      • +3

But Tesla LFP batteries do like being charged to 100%…

      • +1

They pretend to like the extreme cost cutting. Otherwise they have to admit to it being a bit dumb.

    • +6

Heaps better quality? So you’ve not actually been in a Seal have you?

    • +3

I rented a Tesla 3 2024 for a birthday road trip. I drove that car to a BYD experience centre to see the Seal. The back to back comfort sitting in the cars, the Seal came out on top by miles. If you've been inside the Seal, you wouldn't be saying Tesla was heaps better quality.

    • +5

Oh wow what an ill informed post. Want to delete it? BYD Seals use LFP batteries, best read up on what that means.

For those who don't have the time, they don't explode, they don't have thermal runaway. They are safer in a crash than a petrol car.

  • Nice to see prices normalising for EVs but so over the dramatic media stories. Model 3 was 64k drive away in 2021 for me, now it’s $61k drive away without state govt rebates. Hardly a dramatic fall but yes feel sorry for people that paid way more in 2022/2023 when prices went up

  • Tesla so much cheaper inaide in perosn compared to BYD seal.

The BYD reminds pf quality when driving. Tesla feels lile a cost cutting adventure. Drive one and see what i mean.

  • Not a car guy here so pardon me for my noob question. Is there any 7 seaters options either ev or phev? Or need to wait 2025? Thanks

    • -1

      Kia EV9.

      • +3

Yes there is a huge gap in the market that the only option at the moment is a $120k Kia if you want a seven seater. It’s a good car though but that’s a lot of money and cost more than a compromised Mercedes EQB.

        • +1

The EQB isn’t that bad. But it’s not worth $90k

    • +1

      ldv mifa9

    • +2

There is a seven seat configuration of Mitsu outlander PHEV around the $74K mark. No idea if it’s good or not though

  • +2

I am waiting for the 5th gen dm-i phev from BYD, 2.9l per 100km and 2100km from full tank and battery, and priced less than 25k in China.

  • +1

Only worth half price, they sell SEAL dynamic for less than 25k in China.

    • +4

Yeah, that’s not how pricing conversions work.

      • +1

BYD has reduced the starting price of its star model Qin plus in China from rmb 129,800 to 79,800 in less than three years and Australia will be no exception in next years.

        • +2

The competition in China is insane which is why they’re forever reducing prices. We’re nowhere near that in Australia at the moment to get a $30K EV sedan.

          • +1

@ElectrkJonesy777: The fact is that Tesla's price cuts ratio in Australia are exactly the same as in China, and fierce competition is just an excuse for BYD's pricing mistakes in Australia.

    • +2

where? there is no Seal Dynamic model in China the fit out is different. The variant closest to the Dynamic is 192k RMB. do a conversion to AUD? thats around $40kAUD. 78k Qin Plus is a entry level DMI meaning HYBRID. get a clue!

      • -3

Seal Dynamic = Seal Glory edition. Completely same 61.4kWh battery.
You can get it for less than 130k rmb after some city's rebate.

  • +5

Why does this get so many positive votes if the deal is basically unobtainable - given cars must be delivered by 30 June. It should be available as long as you commit and purchase it, irrespective of when they can deliver/fulfil!

  • Why are they more expensive in WA?

    • -1

      Delivery cost

      • +1

Yet South Australia doesn't have higher prices, nor does Brisbane. Can’t justify it from what I can see, an extra few hundred yes but 2k is taking the pish.

  • +2

You know what? I really want to get an electric car, but unfortunately Australia's charging infrastructure is ridiculously poor! Unless you live in a house with a garage, or you have heaps of time on your hands, it's impractical to own an electric car! The infrastructure is so bad in Sydney, even new apartments (my building is 1 year old) don't have charging facilities. Within 10km radius of where I work and live there's 2 superchargers (Tesla), rest are 7kw-22kw chargers which will take forever to charge!

Australia is just so underprepared for EV it's a joke. So even if they're selling these for 20k, there's no point buying one for me.

    • +3

I have never charged at a fast charger/charger outside my house for last 6+ Month,s20,000 KM. I have a garage, and 10A Charger (standard power point)

      • +1

Guess you missed the point. I would get one if I have a garage as well.

    • Building EV infrastructure costs. This is on the car companies themselves to organise and fund. Unless you want this to come out of our tax monies.

      • Actually alot of countries fund these kind of projects. Counties like Hong Kong heavily discounted on EV car tax… makes early Tesla Model S same price as a C200. Their infrastructure on EV charging also ridiculously good.

    • +1

If you just plug into a regular power point, you can get about 100kms range overnight. I dont do over 100kms a day so for me,i wouldnt even need to get more range. I also bave a charger at work, and in sydney there are chargers everywhere.
People talk about resale being the problem. It is. I dont expect to get much for the car, but i do expect to enjoy it a lot and not pay much running it.
Mr mrs fills up everyweek, and so do i. This is about 7000 a year. Further, petrol needs services, and any decent brand costs a fortune for what is basically oil changes. Weve all been there. $1500+ for not much.
Once you look at it, keep the car for its warranty period, say 6 years.
Its a bundle on servicing and petrol, sure resale might suck but if you keep using it, it should be fine.. and actually not a bad deal.

      • My point is lack of charging in Sydney. Yea there are heaps of 7w chargers, but who wants to do that… my work had a normal outlet in the car park but that would charge 50km in like 8 hours of work lol

  • +1

Another day another Ev price drop

3 2 …. Tesla drops it's prices again as well

    • +4

Must be hard. Everything is made in China

      • -2

        I said AND.

  • +5

Very easy to spot the right wing nutters lurking in this site whenever a Chinese made product is posted.

  • +4

    Hybrids are overpriced now.

    • They also make no sense. Yes you have fuel economy, but you have all the expensive ice servicing costs that an EV doesn't.

      • +1

Lol hybrids you can use all existing infrastructure. You can drive anywhere and not charge or wait for a cable. Such a win

      • +3

Capped price servicing for the last Camry Hybrid I had was $200 and now about $230ish for a RAV4 Hybrid. Hardly what I'd call expensive.

Toyota actually have a decent warranty, resale, dealership network and spare parts logistics. All of which the Chinese makers aren't that crash hot on.

  • +3

I checked this in the show room. It's the only non German car I've ever come across that has the nice solid sound when you close the door. If it drives as well as the YouTubers claim, looks like a great deal.

    • It gets bit boaty floaty when pushed.

    • +1

It truly does. Its the most quiet inaide of the 3 i have driven, Polestar, Telsa 3 and Seal performance.

Teat drove the Polestar 2 fully optioned today. Performance pack, audio etc.

Stereo is crap. Looks are subjective but the yellow seatbelts were gross. The seats were some fabric like you get on outdoor garden chairs. Easily slower than both tesla and BYD, cabin reminded of a corrolla (like the one my mrs had before had kids, the Levin ZR). Im just shocked that this car is even in the discussion. You really cant trust these aussie csr websites. They compared this to the seal and said it was better.
I give the seal performance say 8.5, the model 3 a 7.5, the polestar is a solid 5. Whats wild when you factor in the polestar being 6k for leather, and active cruise control being an option. The performance model i drove was about $83k drive away plus another 6k for leather. Thats fully optioned. 89k. And its nowhere near a long range tesla or seal performance which around 72k.

      • +1

Polestar is an old car - the market has moved on pretty quickly. I wouldn't go anywhere near a Polestar 2 today.

  • +1

7KW onboard AC charger and only 150kw DC fast charging, you will be waiting forever on the bigger battery….

Tesla is 11KW AC charger and can take up to 250KW DC fast charging on its supercharger - faster recharge time

    • +1

The Tesla RWD standard range I think is only about 175kw peak, since it uses a LFP pack.

      LFP in generally charges slower.

  • +7

Not even Tesla fan boys are as militant as BYD’s loyalist. Seal is a great car but by no means perfect. Loud win noise on some of the cars that requires going back to the service centre, intrusive safety features (seems to be fixed now with update but I haven’t retest the car), feeling of disconnected to the road sometimes, inconsistent handlings and the non instant torque (this is like the major feature of EV and BYD decided to remove this wth?? Hope it can be fixed wth a software update). I love the design, the price, the interior, and all the buttons and knobs etc (wtf Tesla with the button indicators)

Just don’t compare it with other cars. Model3 highland has better and consistent handling than this.

    • +3

No one is saying the Seal is perfect and it’s far from it but it’s nowhere near as trash or a PoS like most in here want to claim despite never even sitting in one let alone driving it. Have you ever been in a Tesla FB page? It’s like joining a cult with some of the crap they defend and the ridicule they throw at people who dare mention another EV that’s not a Tesla.

I’m interested in some of your claims though having owned a Performance for 6mths I’ve not experienced most of them despite plenty of highway driving, and driving in the rain on twisty roads. What does “feeling disconnected from the road” even mean? Are you talking about the artificial feeling steering which is a feeling from a lot of EV’s? What’s this inconsistent handling you’ve mentioned?

The delay on flooring the accelerator is by design to allow a subtle transition for those coming from ICE vehicles. Plenty of people feel car sick and nausea when a Tesla launches and that’s what BYD was to avoid.

The major ADAS issues were sorted two updates ago.

I test drove the Highland (RWD and LR) extensively before buying the Seal and can’t agree with your “more consistent” claim and if you like the feeling of driving a go-kart, sure, it’s better handling.

Should we also mention the constant phantom braking issues experienced in Tesla’s or a basic function like auto-wipers that are still garbage several updates and months later? See, not every vehicle is perfect and let’s not forget the Premium connectivity required for some basic functions and no charger included.

      • -3

I am not arguing with a BYD fanboy sorry. Life’s too short. Besides I decided on an i4 myself so whatever. That is my opinion and I don’t need to justify it

    • +4

BYD's biggest issue is the craphouse support from the importer

      • +2

My friend was told yesterday the next available slot to check his issue (a 1 month car) is early August.

  • +3

Let’s see how the 2nd hand market for all the EVs play out in the next 5-12 months. New EVs prices will continue to drop as it is cheaper to keep the factory churning then shut it down due to falling demand.

Will eventually buy a used EV as less moving parts and I have a dislike for mechanics who charge an arm and a leg for servicing ICE cars.

    • havent EVs been here for years? You can take a look now

  • +1

So basically pay 6k more from a dynamic to get a bigger battery and better motor with nicer features. I would pay that.

Been seeing a lot of stealth black seals around. Looks great.

    • +1

      Stealth? As in debadged?

  • +1

Premium is still $9000 more expensive 😊

  • +1

    Looks better than the Teslas.

  • +3

My wallet is ready for the Sealion 7!
