Bonus 7kW Wallbox Charger (First 3,000 Orders, Worth $1,000) with BYD Sealion 6 PHEV (from $48,990 + On-Road Cost) @ BYD

2030

BYD announced their Sealion 6 plug-in hybrid this week and are offering a complimentary 7kW wallbox charger worth $1K RRP for the first 3000 orders. Includes 3m type 2 cable. Excludes installation.

Sealion 6 prices;
Dynamic $48,990 plus on roads
Premium AWD $52,990 plus on roads

This is BYD's first foray into PHEV in Australia, and even for this "skeptical about Chinese cars thinker" here, I'm pretty impressed with the specs and prices of the Sealion 6. Seriously considering the Premium, claimed 5.9 secs 0-100, EV range of roughly 80km and petrol/electric range of over 1000km.

                • @Wayne7497: yeah ok. what's that got to do with BYD? plenty of tech start ups like nio or tesla is heavily debt ridden and without funding from their parent company (realestate developer) which is bankrupt for entirely different reasons it folded. I still can't see your point

                • +1

@Wayne7497: If you read that article 167 ev companies in China all to get gov subsidies. Poor business models are to blame not China or EVs
BYD is top of the pile right now so they’ll last longer than almost all of them.

              • @May4th: Never mentioned ww3 , Ukraine no ww3 ? But sure as byd will fold if china takes any military action.

                • @Wayne7497: why would it? is Smirnoff bankrupt due to the Russian war? Taiwan would be much more likely to trigger WW3 than Ukraine

            • @choofa: Damn spell checker yes

      • Only reason is because support from Warren Buffett and obviously the Chinese government. He won't be seeing dead with his image down the drain in one of his biggest investments. Imagine if Tesla has the support from the US government.

PHEV? No thanks. I go with Tesla

    • Agreed. I know a few in remote areas or those who want to tow a boat might want a PHEV. But if you can charge at home a BEV isn’t much difference price wise

  • +1

To those asking about price differences between China and Australia, remember China is Left Hand Drive so would assume they would need a special run for right hand drive.

  • Rather than a charger I will much more prefer a generous petrol voucher.

    Then it is free free.
Otherwise I have to pay for electricity.

    Got the drift?

    • I do wonder about the cost savings. how much per 100km would it cost to run after factoring the electricity cost and then the fuel cost, in comparison to a pure EV or ICE, would be nice to get some numbers

      • +2

There is no absolute number but most EVs would cost about $5 per 100km
Say average ICE car is maybe 7l/100km at roughly $2/l then $14 per 100km
EV Insurance costs are skyrocketing though. Average EV insurance will be around $2k per year soon
The upside is you can pay both these at pre tax rates. So for high income earners this is good

Bottom line still is that unless you are wealthy you aren’t financially better off with an EV. But if you are buying a $50-60k car they are better than most ICE alternatives

Does anyone know if you can set the car to battery only so that it doesn't use any petrol even on hills? or does the petrol engine kick in when it struggles?

Wonder if it does what the Outlander does how if you don't use fuel for certain amount of time you are forced to top up petrol or use up petrol before battery can be used again

    • Yes there's EV mode and HEV mode. EV mode will not use engine unless battery is low on charge.

      • Nice thanks

        • I believe this is not true, the manual says it will switch off automatically

  • Is it practical or possible to power-to-home instead of charging to car?

For example, power-to-home and automatically stop it if battery goes below 50% of battery capacity.

  • This deal still up? Surely 3000 orders would have been placed by now

  • I ordered one last week and will pick it up this Saturday. I was pretty happy with the price mainly due to the eligibility for FBT exemption on a lease. PHEV suits me a little better because I can't rely on somewhere to charge it due to living in a rental. Also the EV range will cover my work commute if I can charge.

    • How did you get the pick up confirmed? I ordered one on day two and haven't heard anything from them.

      • Hey I put an order down on Friday 24th May. I was sent an invoice on Friday 31st May by email. A friend of mine ordered theirs on Saturday 25th May but they haven't received an invoice yet.

I ordered a premium in Harbour Grey from the Brisbane valley store.

Thanks for the info, I ordered online so nothing here. Hopefully something soon.
Please share your first impression of it when you drive it.

@nadan: I had a brief drive of it last weekend and I was impressed with how quiet it was, the comfort and the acceleration. They even said I may get it earlier than Saturday. I will let you know my thoughts!

    • Who is your novated lease provider, and what payments you have got, just to compare with other's?

      • +1

Hey sorry just saw this. SGfleet I went with, the other option for me was remserv. $349 out of pocket per fortnight for 3 years lease.

        • What was included in your lease? Like insurance or new wheels?

          • @OzPeter: Includes rego, insurance, set of tyres, some fuel, lease management fee, car repayments, roadside assistance, servicing cost.

  • Parents ordered the Premium in Harbour Grey today in Melbourne and the sales rep said to expect a 6 week wait for the car to come in.

    • My car has been ready for 2 weeks but just waiting on the fleet company to provide the purchase order, should get it this week (apparently)

      • Yep, pick up scheduled for tomorrow for theirs

I picked my sealion 6 dynamic up 2 days ago. Pretty impressed with it so far. I’ve been getting about 57kms range on pure ev with some spirited acceleration in there too, which suits my 45km round trip work commute.

Definitely agree with the YouTube reviews that the suspension is fairly soft and has some body roll around corners. It does dive a little under hardish braking too. But the ride is good for what it is.

The interior space is excellent at the expense of a smaller than average boot.

          Very quiet cabin as well.

One thing that has caught me out a few times is the child detection system for if you leave your child in the car. Mine has false alarmed a few times and it honks the horn and flashes the lights like anti theft system would. You have to disable it every time you start the car which is a pain. I’ve got a car seat in the car which may be confusing it?

Anyway, it’s comfy, fairly quick in a straight line, quiet, decent range for a phev and has lots of features like sunroof and heated seats.

  • What is the model of the charger, as I don't think BYD do their own brand.

    • They are sending mine out to me by post so I’m not sure what brand it is specifically yet.
