LG 42" OLED EVO C3 4K UHD Smart TV (2023) $1372 + $40 Delivery ($0 C&C) @ Bing Lee eBay

660
SAVHGT

Utilising the $100 off eBay coupon to take it from $1472 to $1372.

Good price for those that missed out on the $1375 deal a month ago. JB price matched Bing Lee at $1472 when I spoke to them earlier today, but wouldn't budge on offering the $1372 price because it isn't a ticket price.

It most likely will drop a little bit more as stock clears up now that the C4 model is out.

I'm unsure if this is Sydney only pricing.

Excludes: Adelaide Metro, Brisbane Metro, Melbourne Metro, NSW Regional, Northern Territory, Perth Metro, QLD Far North, QLD Regional, QLD South East, SA Regional, Tasmania, VIC Regional, WA Regional, WA Remote

Anyone using this as a monitor? Thoughts?

    • +7

I've only used it for 2 months but it's alright so far. I use it for normal desktop use (no gaming) so it's quite a waste really.

When there's lots of white on screen I can see it dim quite a bit compared to my side monitors. That can be disabled but then I'd be concerned about panel longevity.

Viewing photos is jaw-dropping - the colours are fantastic. With videos HDR works but I have an issue with Chrome and extremely oversaturated colours so I've switched back to SDR.

You'll definitely want to install LGTV Companion to automatically turn the monitor on and off along with your PC.

      • +1

It still boots faster than my dedicated computer monitor even without the LGTV companion.

        • +3

It's not about bootup speed, it's about automatically turning it on and off just like a normal monitor. Having to turn it on and off manually with a remote every time won't bother everyone, but it does bother me.

It can also blank the screen if no user input has been detected for x mins.

          • @eug: I use a screen saver and it goes to sleep after 30 minutes of inactivity. Takes about 5 seconds to turn back on from a cold boot. Also, you don't need to use the remote, just press the button under the middle like a normal monitor. Honestly, it's functionally identical to a monitor.

            • +1

@Yuri Lowell: It's great that you (and many other people for sure) don't mind the additional step, but clearly there's enough people out there who don't agree that it is functionallity identical to a monitor that LGTVCompanion was created. ColorControl also added the same power functionality.

Honestly, it's functionally identical to a monitor.

I've never had to manually turn a monitor on/off for over 20 years. :)

Using a C2 42 and 4090 for around 1.5 years averaging 3-4 hours per day. No burn in at. It is a fantastic monitor
      Would recommend.

      • +2

Same here. Been using mine as primary monitor since mid 2022 with no burn in.

        • +1

          C2 for over a year.
Mainly office work with occasional gaming, surfing and videos.
No burn in but I am a fairly low brightness user (setting 42/100) for text use.
If you do all the recommended PC use setup and use dark mode where possible (including DarkReader in browser) it is a very pleasant experience.
I use HDR and full brightness for games and movies.

Except for the annoying fact that it is not a monitor (slower wake up and clunky input switching) it has been good. LG TV Companion app helps but does not solve it all for multi-PC users

          • @goodwillN1: Same except I have no idea what my brightness is.

      • Do you do anything to mitigate burn-in, e.g. autohide task bar. Or do you just run it like any old PC?

      • I'm hopeful LG release a 32" OLED TV this year.. It can' be far off given the release of their 32" OLED gaming monitors.

        • It's very unlikely they'd do that. It would only further serve to highlight the absurd price disparity between OLED monitors and OLED TVs.

      • No one expects burn in after a year, so there isn’t too much point saying that you don’t have it

Not that it matters at the end of the day as LG replace burnt in panels up to 5 years (and sometimes even more - don’t get an OLED from any other brand)

        • The extra 4 year warranty only applies to their Z2/Z3, G2/G3 series according to their website.

          • +3

@MrChadley: It’s not official warranty, LG replaces them all regardless. The second you mention ACCC they’ll replace your panel

            • +1

@cille745: Can confirm, replaced 5 year old B series display for burn in.
Your ACL consumer guarantees rights aren't limited by what they are prepared to give you in warranties, and for something this expensive (even at the "lowest end") you'd expect more than 5 years of operation without having discoloured smears on your TV

              • @Gorby: Good to hear; did you need the original invoice?

                • @eug: Possibly? It wouldn't have been an issue because I got it online through Appliances Online.

    • +1

I use it as a gaming monitor and for work.

For both purposes it's perfect. Had the LG CX 48 previously and it was just a tad too big.

This one is the perfect size. Once you use it you won't go back.

    • Using the C3 42” as my primary monitor for PC and console gaming, I love it. Went from a 32” ultrawide to this, I feel like it’s a nice upgrade.

    • +2

Yes, almost exclusively for gaming. For productivity I prefer 27"4K + 27"1440p.

I have it at just under 70cm from the edge of my desk and it works great for what I play. For fps games that are a bit faster, I occasionally git a bit of motion sickness after a couple of hours that I don't get with my smaller 1440p monitor. It's big enough that I can easily lay back on the couch a bit further away and still have a great experience, and games just look much better on OLED than on my HDR(ish) IPS 27" 1440p monitor.

Because I don't use it all the time with my PC, I don't feel I need any of the tools people use to make it work more like a monitor.

I previously had a 32" that I thought was too big, but it turns out it was just the crappy response time that made it feel "overwhelming" when I was too close to it. With thC3's great response time it feels much better at the same distance.

    • +1

I use this for work and gaming, I use some tools to try and ensure no burn-in etc, like hiding the windows toolbar, all black desktop background, dark mode everything.

For gaming it's incredible, HDR content looks amazing.

Work wise, it took a bit to get used to, i'm a developer and it actually helps seeing a lot of code on screen so once I got used to it I don't think I could go back.

    • +1

Using C3 as a monitor for productivity/work. Only got C3 because my m1 macbook can't drive 2 external displays.

I prefer my dual screen setup on my windows machine, the screen real estate is more usable.

A couple of hours of direct sunlight noticeably darken the pixels, but they seem to go back to normal after a week. (I've applied some frost film on my skylight to control this issue)

I think 42" OLED monitors are coming down to $1300 mark soon so if you're not in a rush probably grab the OLED monitors instead of this.

  • +2

Surely we'll hit 1K mark again this year…

    • +1

Yeah Ill just pass for now, 1400is too close to an actual oled monitor for dealing with the disadvantages.

      • This, while as well buy the new 32 inch varients with much better refresh rates and not a TV.
This is great for multiple uses, console, content consumption and PC usage, but for PC usage only…..too big and too many drawbacks…at least thats my experience anyway.

      • +2

What actual OLED >100hz >35" 4k (non-ultrawide) monitor are you comparing it to? I ask because having looked into it recently, those requirements seem to be rather niche.

      • It's also only a few hundred from the brand new C4…

        • +6

I feel like i'm taking crazy pills in this sub-thread… $1372 vs $2085 is hardly an insignificant difference.

          • +2

@Arsenal: Also the C4 isn't much of an upgrade

            • @bleeder: It's not, but at the time I was under the impression it was 1.8K (on release), for 400 more, you get a brighter newer screen with 144hz for PC instead of 120. Might not be worth it for some, but might be for others.

            • @bleeder: Bit late, but the C4 42 inch seems to legitimately have a ~50% brightness increase like what was claimed from the reviews I've seen. I'd argue that + 144Hz is quite significant. A lot more significant than the last few years at least.

              • @sachk: @sachk I didn't know the brightness was that much, that's a big upgrade. I wouldn't have thought 24Hz would make much of a difference to most people. Yeah you're right, probably a bigger upgrade than C1 to C3 was.

          • +1

@Arsenal: You're right my bad, they were $18xx last week or so on release. LG playing their classic pricing games.

            • +4

@Tbargain12: Are you sure that was the C4 price? Last week when i checked the C3's were all at $1899 and the C4's were $2199

              • @emerson: Christ that must be it, yeah I guess it's a huge difference in comparison in price now!

        • +2

42" C4 is $1745 at Good Guys Commercial site now.

  • this or samsung 95 for 55" ? what would be the lowest prices ?

If only there were a forum with answers for both questions…

Nice just in time for TRS!

    • +3

are you bringing it on the plane ?

      • I think he mean Tax Return.

      • U can TRS before check in luggage at Melbourne airport at least I know of! 43 tv is okay still manageable to check in just put fragile

        • +1

I wonder how many people would entrust a 42" OLED screen to baggage handlers.

  • -4

Just checking if there's any interest here to pick this up for $1k ? friend wants to list it on marketplace next week

    • lol no brainer to pay the extra $370 for brand new with warranty

  • +1
