    Nice

  • Awesome price.

    • +3

      Sure lol, buy 10!

      • +9

        Bought 10. cheers.

      • +1

Where can you buy 4080 for that price?

Are you expecting $300? Keep HODL-ing then if you think that is not fair price.

        • +7

$300 possible for 4080 once 9090 Ti comes out.

          • @RTX9090Ti: 1499 and still not happy. So $300 might be tempting and worth to break the HODL.

  • +8

    How low can you go

    • +10

We have been conditioned for graphics cards to be as expensive as (profanity)…

      • +1

        Well people keep buying them.

      • +3

Isn't it just the result of the crypto boom and now AI?

Don't get me wrong I wish they were cheaper but unless AI moves to some other kind of hardware we're stuck competing with them for manufacturing capacity

      • -1

but paying $3000 for your TVs and $1500-2000 for phones is fine?

  • +2

can anyone tell if this specific PNY model worth to buy ?
I am ready to pull the trigger..

    • +2

Pretty sure this is the exact card in my PC I received from a techfast deal. Works as expected, benchmarks matched average results online within margin of error, only thing that might irk you is the PNY logo being a white LED that you can't control.

      • Thanks for reply, I don't need argp… was considering Galax version, but that's $100 more…
maybe I should wait till 4080S comes out

        • Will cost you a lot more for near same performance. Just grab this

        • -1

Latest news today says 4080s may not be a significant jump from the vanilla. ~7% give or take.

Price is reasonable at $999usd which would probably equate to a price somewhere in the region of 1750-1800$ miniumum/discount price. Probably closer to 2k

      • +2

Do you have any coil whine from this card?

        • +3

Not that I've noticed. I use open back headphones for all of my PC audio so hear a lot of outside noise but can't say I've heard any coil whine with the PC ~1m to my right

        • +8

buy one of these bad boy to dampened the whine: https://www.kmart.com.au/product/40cm-pedestal-fan-43263158/

        • I’ve heard coil whine from my PNY 4080, but the frame rates need to be insane like >300FPS.

Might irk you if you’re a Counterstrike player, but I don’t hit those frames in usual conditions (high quality, 4K gaming)

          • +1

@Velocita: I seriously hope you're not running your games with uncapped framerate!

      • +4

Got mine through the techfast deal too , I had to replace mine twice now as it slowly started overheating (exceeded 110 degrees hotspot). Overall a nice quiet card but keep an eye on the temps after a few months

        • Thanks for the heads up, I'll definitely keep an eye out. Everything has been reasonable for me so fingers crossed I just got a good unit

      • how is the max temperature reading when you're playing graphics heavy game?

My Galax 2080 runs up to 94C (with PC case opened) and it's worrying me.

        • +1

I think you might want to give your 2080 a bit of TLC with dust cleaning, and even consider re-doing the thermal paste.

    • -1

No don't, PNY doesn't honor warranties.

      • +11

lucky you have a local retailer to handle those for you…

        • +1

The retailer needs to send it back to PNY to find out what's wrong with it and if it's warranted, that's the first problem, last I knew it has to go back to Taiwan, other manufacturers have service centres in Australia. Maybe when retailer does initial check they could be authorised to replace with refurbished card depending on problem but I wouldn't count on it.

          • +7

@bobvegas: its the local retailer that has the obligation to provide the warranty.
Doesnt matter if PNY deny it, Umart would stll have to honour it

            • -1

@Lonewolf1983: If it's a warrantable fault, In many cases they won't know that until it's it reaches the service centre in Taiwan. Power surge is a common fault PNY rejects which is reasonable.

      • eh, ill be watercooling mine anyway.

    • +1

I’m using the 4090 version of this model. Pretty sure they have the same cooler (same dimensions). Very quiet, peak 72C in Cyberpunk.

    • +2

I've got this card and rate it. Temps are decent, quiet enough, no coil whine that I can hear and I don't mind the look, very austere.

    • I had this exact model for 4 months before upgrading to a 4090, only because I wanted faster, otherwise it was a solid performer.

  • +2

Great price considering there are 4070 Ti Super models out there going for more.

    • Yesterday amazon msi store had backorder for 4070ti to be despatched within 1-2 months at $949.95, so im guessing the supers wont hold their msrp for long.

      • +10

Check the OzBargain post about that listing - it's dodgy and they send out a 4060 TI Gaming X Slim White instead. Has happened to numerous people. myself included. I just dropped off the parcel for a return just then, and it'll take 37 days to get my refund. Do NOT go near that listing on Amazon.

  • +2

    HODL

    • +8

In deed, 1.5k for an old card lol

    • +5

1499 was my no more HODLing price.

      • +2

I think this was better value tbh. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/828077

I'm more keen for a 4070 ti super than a 4080 considering the performance is near the same but with lower power usage. Also has more room to drop in price since it just came out.

        • then why dont you get the 4070Ti at $1069

      • so, pull the trigger?!!

  • +3

The other PNY version (XLR8) seems to be better in cooling performance. Normally it's only $50 more than this version. Pity it's not on sale.

    • 100% agree. I have that version 4080 bought for $1640 last year. Very quiet and fits in my fractal torrent compact case.

      • Were you able to fit it without contacting the front fan?

        • It touches. Just.

  • +2

Just bought 4070s for sub $1,000

  • Galax version seems to be best bang for buck based on AIB comparisons for the 4080, sg 1 click oc is only $100 more, better looking too tbh

  • +1

Tempted but is it possible to run it with a 750w PSU?

    • 750w will be pushing it, I think they recommend 850w

      • So I've been told, was thinking of getting an 850w but I got my PSU replaced a couple of months ago with another 750w (which I thought at the time was the reason my PC wasn't working until we later found out, the motherboard died). Should have gotten one at the time but I was in a panic, so I wasn't thinking straight.

      • +4

depends on the PSU - ppl run a 4090 on a good 750w (like corsair SF750 for itx) no dramas

      • +1

Gazer is right, you can run a 4090 on a 750w PSU but it usually requires undervolting and/or power limiting. The 4080 will work on 750w with an undervolt.

I'd also recommend using a efficient CPU in that case, like a 7950x in 105w eco mode, or 7800x3d.

        • I have a Thermaltake Smart BX1 750w which I'm not sure if it's the best option but it's what I got.

Also got an i7-12700kf installed on the CPU. I was planning to get a 4070ti Super since it's best for what I own but thought the 4080 is the better option.

I wish I was more smarter about PC tech but it's hard.

          • +1

@Valkian24: The i7-12700kf seems to use 190w at max under a sustained load.

The 4080 uses 320w maximum, and can be around 250w with a good undervolt.

Typically all the other components (motherboard, ram, ssds, peripherals) might fall within the range of 50w to 100w under full load.

Even the worst case scenario on max load with stock settings:
            190w + 320w + 100w
            = 610w on your 750w psu.

Your PSU is bronze rated at 88% efficiency.

            Chatgpt said:
"Efficiency Range: Your system load of 610 watts represents approximately 81% of the PSU's capacity (610W / 750W * 100). This is within the efficient range, considering the 80 PLUS Bronze certification and the stated 88% power efficiency."

So i wouldn't worry about your PSU, however I'd still recommend undervolting the GPU.

4080 is the better option in this case compared to a 4070Ti S because you get more performance for a lower price.

            • +1

@huju: @gazer @huju Spot on. Also worth mentioning - when exactly is someone going to max out their cpu usage and gpu usage and all the other components? Just doesn’t make sense. People overestimate their power supply requirements way too much.

    • +3

Check out this table, to cross reference your CPU

      https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/Accessory/Power_Supply/Ma…

    • +1

Don’t have 4080, but my 6800 with undervolt with same clockspeed, runs faster, cooler and save ~25% power (230w to 160w). Can save even more power if underclock. If you have a qualified 750w psu, 4080 may work if underclock.

  • +4

"significantly better value than the 7900 XTX"

Sure it is, the 7900XTX the was less than 1300 last year.
They got to get rid of those old unsellable poor quality PNY made 4080s as the 4080 super is dropping.
1.5k is still far to high. Hlod!
I know I will get neg mark downs. :)

    • -1

4080 super is launching at $999usd.

    • +7

Sure it is, the 7900XTX the was less than 1300 last year.

The $1261 "deal" was $1.4K+ after adding GST and import duties

All time low for the XTX is $1360 Reference and $1399 non-Reference

Cheapest new XTX is currently $1.5K+ because AMD thought they could also cash in on NV's pricing tiers

Now the XTX is a $1.2K card because AMD have not fixed any of the fundamental issues from launch:

Diabolical RDNA 3 power usage and efficiency including mult-monitor, high refresh and VR setups
Poor software support - as of last week, 9 games support FSR 3
Poor AI support - 24GB VRAM has proven to be useless because for compute, ROCm has fallen behind even Intel's OneAPI, let alone NV's CUDA

      • +4

It's pretty misleading to say AMD "have not fixed" poor power efficiency, quoting launch day numbers, while ignoring various patches which have decreased power draw — starting from a few weeks after launch. Similarly with high refresh/multi-monitor setups, consumption is mostly comparable to Nvidia as of last year, particularly with VRR.

ROCm has fallen behind even Intel's OneAPI

Did you have any specific examples in mind here? OneAPI looks promising from the press releases, and I like their cooperation with UXL/Linux Foundation, but you can't deny it's very early days. Initial SYCL support was merged into Llama.CPP literally yesterday, and their reported performance is around 30% of an AMD card with similar on-paper spec (A770 16GB and 6800XT).

To be clear, I don't think the 7900 XTX is good value at it's current price, but there's no need to exaggerate issues to prove that.

    PNY verto 4080
con: shrinked thermal pipe from 8mm to 6mm
    pro: big fans, very quiet

overall it's a decent 4080 with very good price

    • Shrinked from 4090 version.

  • +3

    340.42 x 142.9 x 59.41mm; 3 Slot

Check your case size if you plan on using a matx case.

  • +2

I am really holding on to the dream that i'll be able to get a 4080 sub $1300…
    I'm also hoping for a smaller 4080 sub 330mm

    • +1

Pulled the trigger 2k for the ROG last July and been using my ROG rig since then non-stop at maxed settings. Unfortunately was a dream to find 4090 available that time and I am very itchy to build my RIG.

Will claim everything this tax return. Lol. work related. So not bad.

      • Honestly i am upgrading from a 3070, its only because i want a 4k card to play on my lg oled.. i am getting away with DLSS saving me an upgrade.
Im not in a rush but just feel that $1300, i would feel i got myself a deal i wouldn't regret

        • I'm running the RX7800XT on my oled in 4K and loving it. Plus i spent $900 on an Asus OC 16GB Vram. I was an Nvidia fan since i built PC for many years but they've become greedy, overpriced with so many variants.

    • -1

Remember when xx80/ti class cards launched at ~1100 aud? And didn't have their names changed to xx90 to make it seem like they're a higher tier card than they actually are? Pepperidge farm remembers.

  • +1

When i called around a few computer shops late last year as i was interested in an Nvidia card, most told me to avoid PNY and stick to more popular brands. So I bought an Asus TUF AMD lol

  • +1

Same price as the cheapest 4070 Ti Super for ~15% more performance.

    • +1

nah 4070ti supers are around $1300 and will come down soon, you would be dumb to buy ti super at launch price
it will get to $1100 soon and 4080super will be this $$ soon as well

  • +2

hodl for this price but super

    • +2

might have to hold til EOFY or closer to 50 series launch for that price I reckon! But ya never know, 80 super sales might flop given the small uplift and higher than vanilla rrp

      • +1

i expect by June, AUD will go up on USD, lower demand will push prices down too, close to 5xx series will help as well.
AMD might price drop some more.

if you need a card right now, sure buy it but if you dont, dont see why you would buy this right now, 4080 is such a weird card…wasn't it basically a 4070ti with 16gb vram originally?

        • +4

Actually it was the other way around, 4070ti was the weird card since it was originally marketed as a cheap 4080 when it was nowhere near the same tier. 4080 itself was good since it is 50% faster than the 3080.

  • +1

good price. hope we see some more of this kinda price across other vanilla 80 AIBs in the coming days/week/s

  • +3

I have been sitting on the fence for 12m. I have finally bit it.

    • worthy. enjoy!

    • +1

      hand your badge in mate

    • +1

Enjoy it mate. I got the MSI Gaming X Slim version couple weekends ago when I posted the deal for $1650 and I've not looked back. Card performs better than expected; maxing out AW2 and CP2077 with path tracing has been absolute treat and my card has been boosting higher than advertised clocks while staying under 70 degrees when gaming.

      • is there any difference on the slim versions apart from being slim??

        • Nah, literally just marginally slimmer cooler; as I said in my previous post if anything I’m getting boost clock above the advertised OC speed with this card.

  • +4

the number of upvotes got me seriously concerned…. this is ok price but still…. too much for a poor gamer like me….

    • +3

I don't think many people are up voting because they're purchasing it but it's a sign further drops will come

      • that's assuring, thank you.

  • +5

I got this card as part of the Techfast Black Friday deal - works fantastically and I'm very happy with it. Running my (included) copy of Alan Wake 2 at absolutely max settings in 4K including full ray tracing at 60-80fps (DLSS quality).
