Not bad but need a ryzen cpu deal! Last component I need

  • +13

So if the PCB warps/cracks and the card fails Gigabyte will give you a big fat middle finger as they are not honering any warranties outside the 12 Months on any GPU according to the tech new and all the youtubers.

    https://www.tomshardware.com/news/gigabyte-gpu-design-detail…

I would only buy a cheap Gigabyte GPU if i had too

    • +6

There’s always the ACCC to back consumers in such cases.

        • +31

ACCC don't need to force Gigabyte to do a damn thing. They force PCByte to do it because they're the retailer and Australian based.

          • +9

@Tacooo: Have you dealt with PCByte with warranty claims? Its the most stressful experience ever. Even mentioning ACCC to them, they won’t budge. I was only able to get my money back back when I made a dispute through paypal so goodluck with these clowns, never purchasing an item from them again.

        • -5

What is honering? You've said it twice now

        • +1

ACCC covers anything for product to last a reasonable amount of time so yes they can very much force them to "honor" the warranty after it elaspes.

          • +2

@Jasonio: Sounds like you have not had to go through ACCC to get a refund, they have no power whatsoever, if pcbyte says to the ACCC they don't want to refund the ACCC will contact you and let you know if you still want a refund you need to take them to court.

        • +6

Bullshit- Steam has it's current refund policy because of the ACCC.

          • +3

@DreadEmperor: Dunno why someone negged you. Steam did in fact update their policy after losing a court battle with the ACCC

        • +5

$1400 for a video card ACCC would certainly expect the manufacturer/retailer to warrant for more than 12 months.

isnt this only an issue with certain nvidia cards?

    • From the looks of it, this model appears to be after they reduced the cooler's size which was probably attributing to it. Or they just didn't do fat 7900XTX coolers in the first place…

    • +2

Seems limited to nv gpus only as per the article??

    • Reads the tech press bs should check out krisfix gpu repair guy on youtube, the issue is with all these monster nvidia cards more than amd and not supporting them properly in the case as they will crack overtime all brands not just gigabyte. Gigabyte is being shown because their rma team puts stickers identifying the fault on rejected rmas. Its not their fault if special eds put in case and dont support them with the now often included gpu support brackets. If you dont want issues vertical mount the card.

Like all companies they arent here to subsidize consumer stupidity. Only problem is stupid consumer cries they didnt fix my gpu this is their fault.

Also its like nvidia wants cards to fail as they are putting those monster coolers on cards that dont need massive heatsinks pretty much from the 4080 down where they uses pissy little silicone vs 4090 that actually needs it. Prob just part of the strategy like the low vram they love selling everyone, cant wait to hear nvidia margin per gpu at next agm.

    • +4

Has it cracked on an AMD GPU though. So far they all seem to be Nvidia cards, likely due to the stupidly heavy coolers they put on them.

  • thoughts on a GPU @ $1k budget within the next month or 2 max?

    • +3

Settle for a 4070? Enjoy your games at 1440p on a GPU that runs cool, stable and power-efficient.

    • +3

      Buy a used 6700xt or 3070.

    • +5

Y'all need to get into those Nvidia TNT2's. I hear those things have 4mb of ram.

      • +2

I had a TNT RIVA 2, it was a great card.. though not as powerful as the voodoo 2

        • +1

I’m pretty sure it went toe to toe with the voodoo3 not 2

    • +4

      Used 6800XT (or maybe 6900XT).

    • +2

I went for a used (ex mining) 6800 from metro com on eBay last night.

$480 with a $50 Ebay plus promo. Got tired of waiting for a price drop on the 4070. I'm not a big ray tracing fan and am sceptical that 12gb ram will be enough for the next couple of years.

      • +2

I bought a 6800XT from them for $599 a month or so ago. Looked in excellent condition when I received it, and it's been working great

        • yeah just make sure you undervolt it so the card lasts longer and you save power

      • How do we get the $50 Ebay plus discount? I am a Ebay plus member.

        • I'm not sure what the offer was, it was just a code that popped up when I was viewing the listing. Maybe you have already used that one?

    • Got a 4k monitor? If not then as others have said, get a cheaper one.

  • Tempted… although the Asus version is 40 bucks more.

I’m still not convinced I need one, or if I should just get a 4080

    • +1

      Asus has 3 year warranty

    • Not really sure it's seems amd card use alot of power even in idle I see the YouTube video on this.. Then again per Dollar amd card much more affordable. I am miss the ebay 4080 deal now they hovering around 1800.

    • I got myself the 7900XTX Asus TUF for some 4k gaming on my LG C2, and I'm pretty stoked with how it turned out. The TUF one runs super quiet and stays cool at around 60 degrees all the time. The only bummer is that this card is massive! So, if your case can handle it, it's definitely a good option.

  • -1

Worth selling 3090 on eBay and getting this instead?

    • +1

I don't reckon no, you'd definitely get a performance bump in standard raster performance, ray tracing will probably be the same as your 3090, more or less, depending on the games ray tracing implementation.

    • 3090 is similar to the 4070ti. So this is a step up for sure though only really one tier

  • +2

Slowly coming down.. bit more needed

  • -1

hmmm I'm running a 850w psu so right on the edge of the specs… guess I'll have to pass or buy a new psu for safety and that'd negates the savings

    • +8

A good 850w PSU will have no problems.

    • +2

My 750w PSU has had no issues with the Sapphire Pulse 7900 XTX for over a week now even at 360w with triple 1440p monitors for sim racing, so 850w will be plenty.

    • LOL can't believe I've been neg'd for choosing to pass on a deal

  • +4

331m length so will not fit into smaller builds like the Reference

    That's a big boy at 331m long!

    • Funny thing is, that's still smaller than most of the 4080 cards which average 340mm and up 😂

  • Has VR performance in MSFS2020 improved with this card lately? Heard all sorts of negatives about it relative to 4080 and 4090. People claim it’s a driver issue. Not sure.

    • AMD still sucks for VR, especially the 7000 series. Was tempted to get a 7900 XT or XTX.
VRAM, bus, raster performance and specs on paper check out, but the drivers suck (I hope it is a software issue, so it will eventually improve, but it isn't worth buying to wait for it).

I ended up going for a used 3080 12GB at $600 and most likely get better performance in VR.

    • +2

They fixed many of the VR issues with the 23.7.1 driver but according to some people, some headsets/games still have performance issues. You'd probably have to check with someone who owns a 7000 series with the same headset in that game.

  • It's 7mm too long for the official GPU clearance spec of the H1 V2. Can anyone confirm that it'll fit regardless?

  • 320mm limit here, so no luck.

  • +1

Is it better waiting for a sapphire version?

    • +2

Yes, stay away from Gigabyte 'Gaming' AMD cards as they have a habit of undersizing cooling, leading to higher tempeatures & noise..

      • Thanks, will do!
Am I right in believing power colour is the other good AMD vendor?

        • Powercolor is ok, though given the choice I'd always go for the Sapphrie AMD card.

          • @xuqi: How about MSI Gaming Trio card? Are they good for 7900xtx?

      • +1

Nothing wrong with the gigabyte amd card, like most this generation its basically a reference board with upspec cooler more heatpipes than reference board. Sapphire nitro+ is better but costs about 150-250 more depending on if on special, that has the greater oc ability due to 3 pcie, similar cooling performance as same design as the gigabyte vapour chamber plus heatpipes.

Although i got the reference at 1360 woth starfield myself as not really worried about ocing even though i have a alphacool waterblock ill be putting on. Pretty much 7900xtx piss a lot of power up the wall for 5-7% gain or be happy with reference.

Also a point rocm is supported on these so slowly the nvidia fan boi comments will be reduced for the i need nvidia for stuff im never going to do but i need lol.

    • The sapphire is only 50 bucks more, not worth waiting imo. Just buy it now and get some use out of it. In a few months time this will drop heaps in price anyways

  • It's a good deal but it's too long for my ITX case.
Still waiting for a deal for Asus 7900 XT, not the TUF one so it fits my case.

  • +2

Guys is Jimmy truly at rest now? Has the fire burned itself out?

  • -2

Im waiting for the 1TB model video cards.

  • +1

The heck is going on with all these weird comments?

  • +1

    I think I will HODL.

  • Is it a good idea to use this with Intel CPU as some suggest AMD Ryzen. I was waiting for a good deal on 4070 to.

    • +1

There's no issue with pairing an amd gpu with an intel cpu. This card is more of a 4080 competitor than the 4070 ti.

  • maybe wait until Starfield is out first before deciding if this deal is worth it, the XTX has been cheaper of late.

  • good luck with trying to get your money back from pcbyte, they will try to do everything they can to give you a replacement even if the product you bought underwent a major problem - i had to wait 2 months to get my money back after doing some stuff

  • +1

Price gone back up to 1549. Ah well, saved me a bit of cash, will stick with the 6900xt for now =)

    • Was about to buy it, if only I was quicker, the new update on firmware made the card alot better
