Has been $350 previously, thought this was worth posting. Got the 48GB kit instead for $143.80 but it's changed price.

Camelcamelcamel shows all time low was a very brief drop to $306, though this is very close to the next all time low.

48gb for 143 is there you just need to select other options and find the one sold by Amazon Germany

    • Oh sweet, it's the better option imo, 96GB a bit overkill

    Chrome approved!

You can open 4 tabs with this kit

  • Does this have any OC headroom?

    • Depends which CPU, some only support 5600Mhz or 5400Mhz for 96GB

Who needs more then 32Gbs on a laptop? 100% of the time a desktop CPU even in an ITX shoebox portable system would be a faster/better workstation for heavy loads that need nore then 64 to 96Gbs

      ITX desktops that take SODIMM

      I agree 96GB is overkill, I got 48GB for ~$145

      • +1

i dunno, if i was to build a new ITX rig, I would get more.

Current rig on 64GB runs out of memory with just a few VMs running

Great for RAM drive. I have 64GB and use 30GB as a RAM drive for intermediate output storage for video processing. I use the RAM drive so that I don't waste SSD write endurance on 20GB files which I will keep for only 1-2 days.

      • +3

I have a similar use case and allocate 32GB of my 96GB as a RAM disk and another 32GB as a PrimoCache cache for my SSDs. My workloads are very write-heavy and I want the absolute best performance without continuously writing to the underlying disks.

Anyone saying 16GB or 32Gb is enough these days is probably just using their laptop for gaming and general web browsing.

      • Great idea!

      proxmox, 128gb isn't even enough

i wish there was a mini pc with 4x sodimms

256gb would be nice but it has to be an matx build

  • I've got a laptop CPU that says max ram is 96gb (13700h), but laptop manufacturer says max it is 64gb.

Should I stick to what the laptop manufacturer says?

    • +1

Maybe laptop specs were from when 64GB was max, Amazon has free returns if you keep the box in good condition and say it's not compatible.

I put this 96GB kit in the HP Omen 17 4080 laptop that was on here a few months ago, even though HP officially only supports up to 64GB.

Be warned that it can take up to 5 minutes to boot up for the first time afterwards, as the memory has to be re-trained to ensure it's stable. It actually runs at 4800Mhz on that device. After that, no problems whatsoever.

Not a bargain, can download ram for free!

here is a link & a linus video includes a segway to their sponsor

      • The sponsor is build redux…

  • RAM disk ready to go.

  • you can pickup 2x 64GB from amazon USA store

    • Does much support this?

      • There is a possibility if it supports 2x48G, it'll support 2x64GB.

Most manufacturers haven't tested with that config though, because 128GB kits are fairly new.

      • i believe it will mostly work, might have to drop the speed to 4800mhz

if that doesn't work then dropping to 3600mhz will almost always work from what i've read

not a big deal for server use or AI

if you are gaming on IGPU then it's going to hurt you massively - best stick with QVL listed ram for your motherboard

      • Maximum RAM for CPUs listed on Intel/AMD website is often specified per channel. So if it says the maximum is 64GB, it's quite likely to accept 2x 64GB.

This isn't guaranteed though, so I'd do some further research and also make sure you buy from a seller, like Amazon, that has a good returns policy.

  • That's a heck of a lot of ram. Future proofing your system. I'm still getting by just fine with a meagre 8GB.

  • I bought this and just waiting for it to arrive. Good Kit as I have purchased this previously for a laptop. It's overkill today sure, but nice to have the extra ram. It's worth looking at ram cache possibly in use with this a thought.

  • Bought, now to find a youtube tutorial on how to put this in my new Macbook Air.

    • You didn't check if it's soldered ram first? A lot of laptops are
