It’s in Cole’s Subiaco WA near the cheap stuff section. Cheaper to buy a new one than pods.. really reflects a disposable society…

Cheap Coffee Machines are becoming the New Cheap Printers

    • +1

And proprietary capsules the new cartridges?

        • At someone that works at a chemist shouldn't you be answering that for people?

        • Yes it is , your drinking too much COFFEE ☕☕☕☕☕☕

    • becoming the New Cheap Printers

becoming? It's always been that way!
Make their money from proprietary consumables - pods (like with ink jet printers).
      pack of 16 $6.48 now (S&S Amazon) = 40 c/☕

Bought my first Lavazza 9 years back. Machine & 12 pods $6 @HN
And fancier model with 12 pods $9 delivered.
Then bought 11 machines mainly as presents, for $25ea profit & 480 free pods (Pods have 2+yr BBD)
Last Amazon Day bought Lavazza A Modo Mio Voicy machine RRP $349 cost $59 after cashback! Has Alexa with good sounding speaker. Music with my morning coffee ☕

All still operate well. Bought from Deals here.

Find them almost no maintenance, easy to use, as only produce 0-2 coffees a day. Not that into coffee. Suits my needs!
Economics of buying espresso machine, grinder, accessories, beans that were hardly used, maintenance, etc made no sense.
Have Cafe with great coffee is minutes walk away.

  • 32 cents a coffee.

    • More expensive than buying Lavazza pods for use in a Nespresso machine which you already own!

      • 7.5g vs 5g of coffee, it should be more expensive. Nespresso doesn't really have enough coffee for a normal shot.

      • how do you Austrian Oak already owns a Nespresso machine?

    • +1

It actually comes with an addition 9 pods inside lol, so technically 0.28c.

      • +1

        28c

        • Damn, I guess 357 pods to the dollar was a bit too good :-(

  • Can you get this in my local Coles? Sydney

    • +1

It's your local, maybe you can check for them

  • I’ve never had a coffee machine before but lately i’ve been thinking about getting one, would this be a good one to get or is this brand lavazza rubbish as in i’m wasting my time? Also would the pods be expensive?

    • +1

In the long run a pod system is more expensive and wasteful especially if you're having at least one coffee a day. Search ozbargain for a decent machine (or machine and separate grinder) and you'll save money in the long run.

      • Only one coffee a day ? On which planet do you live !

        • +1

          The tea planet 😀

    • These are good i have one and use it daily

      • Are pods expensive to buy ? I'm sure our local Coles won't have this machine , good thing as I drink too much coffee anyway

    • I think, somewhat in line with OPs post, you want to ask yourself if you'll want to make a good coffee at some point soon after buying one of these. They make drinkable coffee but that's about it. I'd just skip the step and get a used Breville or similar. Even if you buy pre ground beans it'll be MUCH better than anything pod related.

    • Pod coffee machines produce coffee with taste that's not even remotely close to coffee. I'd stay away. We have a $500 nespresso pod machine at work and I always have a dilemma in the morning whether to stick to instant because pods taste different to instant but not necessarily better

    • I went with these pods over Nespresso due to the amount of coffee in each pod, and Lavazza being decent coffee IMO. These hold 50% more coffee (7.5g) having just enough for a decent shot (7-9g), which leaves Nespresso's 5g lacking in that area. You are limited to the one brand though, but it isn't a problem if, like me, you enjoy the coffee. This is a crazy cheap way to find out.

I eventually moved on to grinding my own as it is infinitely better, but with these pods I used to wait for the sales every few weeks and buy a couple of boxes. It is an quick and more importantly mess free way to get your caffeine fix in the morning. It make a right old mess.

If you're a coffee or cheapness enthusiast pods won't do it for you. They are for people who want convenience but won't drink instant or freeze dried - but also aren't so picky they need to grind and brew their own. In summary: my wife.

This machine only works with Lavazza pods. They make a variety of relatively affordable ones and the flavour is pretty good, but you won't be able to use Nespresso type pods (different shape). Because Nespresso started the whole trend, there are a larger variety of companies that sell pods compatible with Nespresso machines.

The catch for me is I prefer compostable pods, and Lavazza doesn't have any in Australia. The plastic ones don't really recycle properly. Republica makes compostable ones that fit Nespresso-pod-compatible machines.

      • I didn't know that i was your wife 😀

This deal brings back memories. I think it was 2011 and target was selling these for $50 and you could apply for a $60 cashback/rebate or something like that. So they were basically paying you to buy these.
I remember buying 2 and gifting 1 away. Wow I've been on Ozb for a long time.

    • +1

I remember this and still talk about it as one of my finest bargain moments hehe

Lavazza A Modo Mio Minu Coffee Machine (2014)
Bought 11 - made great gifts. Still have 1 in use.

Were about 50 left on the shelf at end of sale. Seemed I was only one buying at local store. Shelf price was still $99.

Target reduced the price to $38 or less. ING had 2% back. Made a profit of ~$25 on each💰

Then Lavazza had redemption of 32 pods with each. They stuffed up & delivered 480 pods.

Last Amazon Day bought Lavazza A Modo Mio Voicy machine RRP $349 cost $59 after cashback!. Has Alexa with good sounding speaker built in. Music with my morning coffee ☕

  • I bought the last one from coles subiaco so its OOS for now.

    • Yeah my bad forgot to post it earlier, black hole phone reception inside.

    • When is the Saturday 4pm discount bread going to make a comeback to Coles Subi?!

  • +1

There were some at my local and it was tempting but it feels environmentally vandalising to buy one with the intention of throwing it away after all the coffee pods are used up.

Who cares, billionaires charter private flights.

      • Apathy is the death of humanity.

I wouldn't buy this junk either.

        • No the WEF and WHO will be the death of us all

    • you don't have to throw it away, and you could just keep on using the machine. That way you enjoy discounted pods from both nespresso ones and lavazza ones.

    • Give it away on Gumtree

    • The machine is already built. And at this price it’s not going to encourage them to build disposable machines anyways.

I bought one and then purchased the reusable coffee pods off good old Temu for $3 and get my favourite coffee to go inside. As for the pods the kids have used them to propagate their succulents in so really not that much waste so far.

    • +1

can i get a link please for $3 pod please ?

      • +1

Provided a link to a reusable Lavazza A Modo compatible pod on Temu - but Ozbargain removed it. About $22 & uses disposable aluminum foil to cover top.

So many reusable pods on Temu, but almost all not for this machine!
        Searching Lavazza shows lavender products…

There are compatible stainless steel pods for about $40 elsewhere.

Have tried refilling used pods, tamping down, covering top & bottom with foil, & reinserting pod same way as previously used (to avoid double set of holes with more water flow)… a lot of mucking around for lesser quality coffee in my experience. And risk of getting stuck in machine!

  • The capsule is an odd shape, not compatible with the traditional espresso capsules. I find the capsules are generally more expensive too

    • Yes, no alternative manufacturer of the proprietary pods. So no competition.
Stock up when on sale: pack of 16 $6.48 now (S&S Amazon) = 40 c/☕

  • That’s an amazing deal. Bought one of these recently and I’ve been v happy with it, but that is an incredible price.

  • +1

coffee beans are cheaper than pods, but if you only drink 2-3 cups a week. probably better to use pods

  • +3

Found a big stack of them in an aisle in Dianella WA.

Bought 3, plenty left. Will be Xmas gifts for friends who don't drink much coffee, so don't have espresso machines, but need something half-decent for guests. i.e. me.
They are very basic machines, but the coffee is good.
