    a i9 12900HX cpu

    no thank you

    • Any particular reason? Thermals going to be a mess?

How good or bad is this deal? Seems good to me, might pull the trigger…
Also does anyone know if we can price match somewhere to further decrease the price?

1080P on 16 inch with a 4080 is kinda horrendous

  • +8

1920x1200 @144hz, I'd expect at least 1440p resolution for these specs.

    • +7

ironically the cpu and gpu are being bottlenecked by the display lmao

      • +2

unless you're using external monitor …

    • +2

Yikes, this post is missing out quite alot of details. Thought it was a good deal at first.

This is actually a best value laptop rtx 4080 you can get.

with a 1920X1200 screen, i dont think it is a good idea.

      • My brother-in-law has the HP OMEN god-like deal before and I can tell, I just can't notice the difference between 1080p and 2k at all. This screen is not big enough to benefit the RTX4090. But of course, this is a personal preference.

        • I trust you, but that depends on personal preference. The argument could be made you dont really need a 4080 laptop to run 1080p at 120-144hz.

  • +3

Seems like the screen is a bit of a letdown

with frequent 15%+ cashback at lenovo, this makes much more sense: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/808649 instead, for $4~500 more depending on the cashback amount you get: twice the ram, a much better cpu with 8 more e cores, an actually usable screen

      Not supporting the chinese.

      • Msi is chinese aswell tho. So is asus, razer, gigabyte etc. If you go with Dell, it's just a western brand stamped on a made in China product aswell

        • +3

Heeeey, I think either Asus or Gigabyte is Taiwanese! 😋 Not the same!

        • MSI is Taiwanese as well, which doesn't count towards mainland China companies

        • No Chang, they are all Taiwanese.

  • Is it safe to assume you'll need a 5kw air conditioner blowing directly into the laptop to prevent thermal throttling?

    • No, not at all. Watch the video someone posted here

  • I'm a bit in a dilemma. I have purchased the gigabyte one from the deal I posted and not sure which one is the smarter choice. I would use either of them only with external display so the mediocre screen on the msi is not a big issue, besides that it seems to be the smarter choice. Any thoughts?

Well you’re getting a 4080 with this which is much more powerful so if you’re using a monitor I’d definitely say this

    • the MSI adapter is bulkier and heavier than Gigabyte.
But MSI has more GPU power than the Gigabyte, so if u use external monitor then this MSI is the deal for you.

      • Do laptops even let you plug monitor into GPU outs? Do these kind of laptops have the ports?

Sorry, not too familiar with laptops

Pretty standard to have a HDMI out or video over USBC.

these 2 reviews both mentioned u can use external monitor to ultilise the RTX 4080

        • Although the key use case for going with a laptop as opposed to a pc is usually portability. I guess you want to ask yourself how often you'll be gaming away from your desk with the external monitor. Is it's a fair bit, then you want to go with a decent screen.

  • +1

That should be 2560x1600. Else the 4080 is running idle

  • Umart has the aorus 17x with 13900hx and 4080 for a little over 3300. Very good deal considering the build quality, cooling and battery run time

  • How would this handle quest 3 to play games in VR?

    • +1

      Completely fine

  • +1

Screen is negligible, who's spending over 2k to end up always playing on a 16" screen anyway? Great deal considering price can be compared to a desktop 4070ti build which this would trade blows with.

  • wow, will we see 4080 laptop deals close to $2k after xmas then? Seems prices are dropping well fast now for 40 series.

Also their site is funny, here's another link to exactly same laptop but its now $3099

    • They are having 24 hour special sale. so i guess thats the regular price.

MSRP of 3,999 is stupid then.
