Free data, which "genius" decided to offer something that good customers who buy sufficient or excess data don't need? I guess these customers don't deserve compensation.
Our 2 Coles sims expire in March and April, so guess who'll be porting to anyone not reselling the Optus network. I wonder if I can donate the excess data to someone when we leave?

Feel free to move to the other two networks who have not had any outages like this.

Uhh, Telstra had a major outage in May this year, and October last year. Not as long as 11 hours, but still significant. I’m with both Telstra and Optus (work and personal sim), however I don’t preference one or the other.

Without Optus we would be left with a legacy Government provider at a premium cost for internet and mobile phone networks. It's Optus that has allowed the market to have a semblance of competition and provide the ability for many to afford services. This country is such a large land mass with a relatively small population, so competetive coverage against the monolithic encumbant is incredibly hard to provide to our market. By and Large we still don't have any competition for large parts of the country. It's Optus and NBN that gives us some hope to have that competition over the coming decades and certainly along the East Coast population centres. We need Optus to be the best it can be for the market to work. Never forget the history when $1000's and 1000's of dollars of bill shock statements for mobile phone data plans hit users as Iphones and international roaming hit the market and the ACCC was asleep through it all.

I've been surprised at how many businesses hadn't done risk planning. It is hardly as if this week's outage is the first time in history that a network has had problems. When I was running a small business, I always kept a couple of prepaid sim cards for the other 2 networks unactivated so that I could keep business critical services operating, including payments.
It's hard to have sympathy for businesses that couldn't be bothered investing $50-100 in redundancy despite having $1000s in revenue at stake from losing a single day's trading.

tbf coles mobile has been good so far… i dont have much to complain about and 2ndary service

but i run three lines… one optus (coles), one voda (kogan) and one telstra (boost)

go boost… may as well, same price

go boost… may as well, same price

The whole reason I switched from Boost to Coles is because it's not the same price - nowhere near the same. I can't get Boost for $99 for 12 months, but Coles does it at that price every couple of months.

What do we port to after all 3 netwroks had a big outage? FYI, they all had outage before. The same goes for banks, guess which bank?

      • +2

I've never seen cash have an outage.

Coles are tight giving only 25GB I'm with Vaya who also use the Optus Network they are giving 60GB of data.

    • +8

but its coles…they are known to be stingy and you know, they only make billions in profit per year

  • +1

nice 90% less than optus compensation which was already terrible compensation

  • +2

This isn't a deal, it's just a data bump for anyone already on Coles that's applied automatically.

BTW Catch gave me 50GB and I'm on their cheapest plan.

    • Yep me too. Does anyone tried to contact Coles to get a better deal?

  • +1

You can imagine how hard Coles are contractually screwing Optus, only to get this much.

    • i think coles are just tossing out the min. effort to make this go away… that's it

they know there customers arent running like big ass businesses on their network

    • maybe optus gave coles 60gb and coles only passed on 25gb …

  • Just LAUGHABLE

Free data is worthless these days. I don't know a single person who's run out of data in the past 5 years.

    • +7

Not really. I bought Coles $99 deal for 60gb yearly data. So additional 25 gb would add approx 40% for me. I would have preferred more but satisfied with this offer though.

  • +1

Or just grab a Boost sim deal with profit & whack in your dual sim phone for extra data.

  • Merged from Will Coles Mobile Provide Compensation for The Outage

Considering Optus collapsed and Coles is an Optus reseller, has anyone got information on if they will provide compensation. Some of my friends with Amaysim have already recieved something.

  • Much better than AMAYSIM, I was offered 60GB applied on 24/11 but to be used within 4 weeks, Horrible.

  • Opt-us hahahaha

  • +1

Why not convert 25gb into 152 free days for us, 60gb/year

  • Waiting for 20%off recharge like last year, not sure if Coles will do the same again this year?? Need to recharge by end of this month.

  • I'm not one to even neg a SUBS deal, but at least with SUBS it's something I can pay for and then get. No one is seeing this "deal" and able to go out and get coles mobile with a 25GB bonus. Existing customers get it automatically, so it's not even like a targeted deal. Literally just a PSA.

    • Whats a sub deal? Its an awful deal but better than nothing

      • +1

It’s those posts that inform you that a new movie or series is going to become available on a streaming service, like the recent one stating the new Spider-Man is coming to prime. They tend to get a lot of controversy with people saying they’re not deals.

  • I got the 25GB added to my account last night. Sounds good except my recharge date for my 365 day service is today and this data does not roll over.
I contacted their support to be told nothing can be done, "sorry for the inconvenience". They did say that 50GB is rolled over to the new recharge, however I already had 50GB to roll over so this means this compensation data is pretty much useless.
    Nice one Coles Mobile!
