For Black Friday this year, ALDI will be running a limited-time 10% off the $25 Pocket Money Prepaid Gift Card.

This card usually incurs a $3.95 activation fee, which is being waived this time round, so it'll only cost you $22.50, for $25 worth of money!!

          "Blackhawk Network (the owner/operator of the Activ Visa gift card scheme) has implemented spending restrictions at supermarkets on Activ Visa gift.

          In summary:

          You cannot redeem more than $400 from a single Activ Visa gift card at any supermarkets each day. For example, if I have a $500 Activ Visa gift card and go to one store and redeem $300 from it, if I go to a second store on the same day and attempt to redeem the remaining $200, the transaction will be declined with error code 12 (Invalid Transaction).

          You may not be able to redeem more than one Activ Visa gift card within an approximately ten minute window at the same location. I have previously been able to redeem $200 and $50 Activ Visa gift cards at the same Coles store within seconds of each other, but I have not been able to redeem $200 and $250 Activ Visa gift cards at the same Coles store within seconds of each other.

          These restrictions also cover Perfect eftpos gift cards and OnlyONE Visa gift cards. For example, if you are able to redeem $200 from a Perfect eftpos gift card at a Coles and then try to redeem $250 from an Activ Visa gift card at the same Coles a few seconds later, the Activ Visa gift card should be declined."

          • @maverick1: That's probably not true, I was able to use a $300 shopback supermarket gift card on 2x $90.45 transactions 1 minute apart.

            • @AwesomeAndrew: Yes, that should work as normal its under $400…and I'm assuming you would have used atleast 3-4 Shopback GC's to buy the $1k worth of these cards..

  • Does the activation/redemption work right away?

    • Yes, its instant can only load upto 5 cards/$125…seems the limit resets after 24hrs…

  • If u get 5 at one time, does the aldi check out system check that limit of 4?

    • Yes, it does…it prompts on the screen only 4 allowed…

      • The silly part is that Aldi Staff have to peel back the cardboard to scan so that on the 5th card they get the error, Now what……they can't put the card back as they have opened it! In my case he just scanned the second batch of x4 as a separate transaction!
        As the day goes on I guess Staff will be more aware i.e. max of x4.

  • Actived 14 cards without issue, but from the 15th, for new numbers, can't receive SMS now. Seems system slow now.

    • you activated 14 on one mobile#? I tried again not letting me do after 5…

      • No, each number can only active 5. but from my total 15th one, I cannot get SMS.

      • have you tried logging out/in of the app…I had a similar issue…if login/logout doesnt work then give them a call they will generate another SMS link for you.

        • This is not the app, this is the 1st step where you put your mobile to get the SMS. I never received the SMS

  • my store's store manager had no clue. The shelves are full but without pocket money GC. Seems like they never received stock

    • I heard the same from one of my local's..they didn't get any stock and that was when I visited them just before 9, store opens at 8:30

      I went to an ALDI today a couple of minutes after opening and they had no Pocket Money gift cards. I asked staff and they said they never heard of it and do not know about this deal. I grabbed one of the catalogues from the exit and showed them the page, and the staff member said it appeared to be an error in the catalogue, because they do not sell that gift card. Rightio…

        Just went into my local in regional NSW, no stock. Guy had no clue about it, even after showing him what they look like. Guess I'm missing out on this deal sadly. Went to check the other night too hoping they'd be stocked from the sale start date, but nope.

        Will go again in a couple of days maybe to check one last time.

      Giftcards are not stocked by employees instead are handled by merchandising reps from the providers. It must be in their offices waiting for a rep to come merchandise the store.

      • aah that probably explains why some stores have stock whilst others do not. Thanks for the clarification. The way some ALDI stores are setup, I don't think anyone even anticipated this promo.

    Will say this is a bit more mucking around.
    Not sure if would bother again but unless you know how to work it more quickly?

    Has anyone been able to use it for say shopback to buy vouchers as a "credit card"?
    Or did you link it to PayPal?

    Also collective experience with more than one card to activate… is it just the one card details in the microgifts app in the one account i.e. one mobile/one email? or does it come back as different cards i.e different "credit cards" with other csv etc?

    If its the one set of details then might be worth being patient to load more than as a combined total i guess vs 25 amounta each time.
    Appreciate the knowledge from all in advance

    • My understanding , download app and verify.
      The the card has a barcode, you scan and it adds $25 to a max of $125 per day

      • The issue is it seems each card needs to be confirmed via a SMS, which may be flaky, either due to human or system error. Imagine the hassle of dealing with several failure to receive. What makes it worse is if one does some together, one may not know which one fails. I definitely do it one by one so that I can stop at whichever fails.

        A better setting should be have the scanner inbuilt in its App and save the hassle of SMS from the 2nd card.

  • Looks like their servers are down at the moment. The activation link is not working.

    • Working fine here. Make sure the "activate" link opens to the app and not the web browser

    Painfull process. Not sure I can be bothered getting more tommorow. Last years Amazon ones were much better and usefull

      If you have the digital version, that operates on the Mastercard network, which means you will attract the 0.5% surcharge at ALDI.

      If you have the physical version, that operates on the eftpos network, which means you will not be surcharged at ALDI.

        Physical version must have delivery/card cost. Digital Eftpos attracts no surcharge but with purchase fee.

  • I went to 2 Aldi and ask my friend to check another one. No stock, they dont even know about this/never seen it before and of course I can't find it. That's weird.

  • Tired to activate the 2nd card. No SMS received. It’s been at least 20min

    • I just checked that I activated the 2nd one after a good hour and the SMS was delivered.

      I think one may have to be really patient to avoid any system glitch, provided that one does not enter the wrong info.

            • @thriftee: Sometimes a Telco may blocks spamming SMS. It may be worth mentioning It. I use a Boost number to receive them without issue so far.

              • @Neoika: called support 2 times in morning got 1st card activated with re-sent SMS.

                tried 2nd card, OMG again no SMS in past hour. if each card has to wait / call / wait, that would be painful.

                  @test8888: Definitely painful. Called up and he said I can see two SMS’s didn’t get sent thorough. I’ll send them now …. still nothing. Called again and now they just hang up after a while

    Spoke to store manager, no limit on purchase, just limit on transaction limit. Some stores sold out this arvo with people cleaning up all in one go!

  • When I am activating, it says it reaches the daily limit, but I am using a brand new number, I guess it is the midnight system glitch? I will try again tomorrow morning!

    Tried to activate card at 6.30am this morning get message Bad Gateway also app not working just blank screen. Not a good experience so far.

      I encountered the same error. Seems like their day doesn't reset the same time as our time. Potentially GMT time? So we'll have to wait till 10am AEST / 11am AEDT to try again?

        It could also be a 24 hour period rather than a calendar day. I did 5 at 9pm AEST and then tried another at 6:30am AEST and got the same error. Was going to wait until tonight again to try for the next ones.

      the limit is exactly 24hours…i added a card ysdty around 10:23am (going by the time on the SMS from digicash) and was able to add another today just exactly after 24h.

        • Nothing we are currently aware of. I aldy have $250 each in my 2 accounts.

          Worst case just register for more accounts. Buy first thing later lol.

          • @truetypezk: I don't think I’ll get more. I just spent all Westfield gift cards on them. They worked but to my surprise, ALDI POS recognises them (as the card type is shown on the receipt) and still approves the transactions.

      • Correct. 24hrs activation cycle. They limit to 4-5 cards per day as the Aldi promo limit 4 card per person (as per call centre)

  • I got $700 from one store, the staff didn't care at all. I may get more later as they still had plenty and is walking distance for me! I think these will go towards mainly amazon anyway…

      • Yes! I just warn them I'm going to be a while and they move to the next checkout. I start to peel the tab for the barcode to help speed it up

        Yep me too. I even asked the staff if they wanted me to take rip off the cardboard to scan the barcode. Initially they said no, but in the end they said yes. I lined up a second time and had it all torn off and it was a very quick process.

    Yeah. Their systems are obviously stuffed. Like many others, I can't redeem as no SMS is being received (5 hours past). Worked fine yesterday. I'll stay well clear of these cards futurewise as not worth the time and pain. Shocking company Microgifts.
    I tried call their support on 1300 000 889 but it just says can't take your call and hangs up. Nice!

    • feel this company is not prepared too many orders coming together and probably only one IT guy not happy with overloading job!

      • He is probably playing all the roles. Definitely activate them later.

        • One can't activate then later i.e. try again as they already show as activated. Without the SMS they are in nowhere land as needs the included link to add to account.
