    • I ordered last night and got Nov 20, but I'm in WA so yours may be different

    • +1

It depends is the short answer. We've seen appointments within a couple of days, but we've also seen some weeks out. It is area by area. But we can move the date if it doesn't suit you, just get in contact.

  • @twix would a asus rt-ax58u router be enough to handle all off this even if it's just the 250mb speed?

    thanks in advance as well

  • Currently have FTTC coming in overhead from one of the poles on the street, any idea if the installers would just pull the fibre in overhead too or will they dig up the front yard to install it underground?

    • +1

The installers can do either way.

    • +2

They will do overhead cabling and try to reuse the entry points into the house/roof from any existing external cabling like phone and/or foxtel etc. That was my experience upgrading FTTC to FTTP

      • Did they also run the internal cabling from the utility box to the connection box?

        • +1

          Yeah they do.

  • Does anyone know how long to be out of Leaptel to get a new user deal?

    • 12 months

  • Is this only for new users?

I just signed up a few weeks ago for 250/50 at like $89

Is there any way to get this deal/faster for the same price?

    • Contact them directly and ask them the question.
      Please report back 🙏

    • The $79 is no longer available. It is now $89 when I contacted Leaptel

  • So NBN 50 is the plan people connect to on average in Australia?

    https://www.speedtest.net/global-index

    • +3

more people would get higher speeds if they were cheaper

      • +1

        Exactly!

  • Hi, I am currently with Vodafone, what happens if I switch to Leaptel, does it automatically cancel my Vodafone NBN and connect to Leaptel, or do I have to do all the transition manually?

Is there downtime while waiting for the transfer?

    • +1

If you have a FTTP, then the process is that you can sign up with Leaptel - they will connect the internet service on your next available port on your NTD (here a picture) - usually it's going to be the port labeled "UNI-D 2". It should take about 1 day (or less) for Leaptel to connect the internet service on your second port on your NTD. All you need to do is to take the cable from "UNI-D 1" and plug it into "UNI-D 2".

You will need to cancel your current NBN plan with Vodafone, and they will basically disconnect the internet service on the "UNI-D 1" port.

There shouldn't be any downtime if you start your Leaptel service, make sure it's connected, then proceed to cancel with Vodafone.

Edit: It's always best to ask Leaptel or Vodafone support if you're still unsure. They will guide you on how to switch Internet Service Providers.

  • Would the Archer vr1600v router that came from TPG be compatible with this, for the 100/20 or 250/25?

  • Hi All. Anyone using Leaptel to watch IPTV? My current ISP which is Spintel is somehow blocking IPTV content and after two weeks of escalation not able to resolve it. So thinking of switching from Spintel.

    • +1

Been with Leaptel for probably a year now. Have no real issues with my IPTV sub

      • Thanks @Whatisthatvelvet, I have Hybrid fiber-coaxial (HFC), could this be the reason?
Could you please confirm what connection you have?

        • +1

Best thing to do is to get rid of Spintel..
No issues here, I use the TVirl app on Google CCwTV.
          https://www.matthuisman.nz/2019/01/live-au-iptv-channels-on-…

          Works with Kodi as well
          https://www.matthuisman.nz/2017/08/kodi-freeview-au-iptv-set…

I don't think throwing a VPN into the mix would cause any issues either.

          • @G-rig: Thanks @G-rig, VPN would definitely help but it creates lots of buffering unless you have a premium VPN account.
But as you and other people can very well access IPTV with VPN with other ISPs I should change it as well.

            • @IndianWarrior: I haven't tested overseas IPTV without a VPN, did you have the Playlist URL / EPG or something i could test?

            • @IndianWarrior: What a VPN is doing is basically adding an additional layer of routing, as the VPN provider basically becomes responsible for routing your traffic and
So let's say you're in melbourne, and the IPTV is in Hong Kong (just as a random location).

Without a VPN, on Leaptel, your traffic is going:
Your Address > nbn > Leaptel Melbourne Network > GSL international transit > Hong Kong IPTV provider.

If we break down that international portion, with GSL it is probably going > Melbourne > Sydney > Tokyo > Hong Kong or Melbourne > Perth > Singapore > Hong Kong

              With a VPN:
Your Address > nbn > Leaptel Melbourne Network > VPN provider > Their international transit provider > Hong Kong IPTV provider.

Now their international path could be the same as ours, or it could be different.
eg. Melbourne > Sydney > Los Angeles > Tokyo > Hong Kong

They might also use lower quality transit providers who have congestion on their network.

It really depends on the VPN provider and their quality. I know some quite large VPN providers use GSL for international transit just like us, so in that case you'd expect performance to be similar.

Have FTTP now for last few months after having FTTN for last few years

  • Can I turn off CGNAT in the customer portal for free or do I have to pay a $10 per month static IP fee?

    • Pretty sure I did it for free in the portal

      • you forgot the g (your link), RIG.

    • Why would you turn off CGNAT? What are the advantages, if any?

      • +1

When an ISP has CG-NAT enabled it can give you a strict NAT type in online P2P multiplayer games, have problems with connecting to IP cameras depending on how they are configured and breaks remote access to a NAS and Plex server.

There are some things that may depend on NAT and its features to work, this is services related to port forwarding and may include:
Servers: Web Servers, Email Servers, File servers and so on.
Home Utilities: Security Cameras and systems, home automation, Printers
Remote Access: Access to computers or devices remotely

        What is CGNAT?

      • I run a Plex server. Cgnat blocks it.

  • Can I just get that 1Gbps discount without the NBN upgrade since I'm on HFC?

    • Not for $89. It will be $99/month for 12 months.

      • Edit: Nevermind, just realised they have Gigabit but via Opticomm.

        • +1

From December 1st Leaptel will have Gigabit on nbn.

          • +1

            @Twix: Thanks 🙏
Depending on the price and QOS, it might make me jump ship from Origin.

            • +1

@Maths Debater: $99/month for 12 months if you already have FTTP. December 1st is when CVC goes bye bye.

              • @Twix: Excellent price. I'm on HFC. How will the RSP manage the load on their service without CVC? I'm still confused about this.

                • +1

@Maths Debater: $99/month is for HFC too. I don't know how Leaptel will manage it. I found this post about Aussie BB.

The current plan is to set all CVCs to 10G and turn off CVCBot. Utilization will be managed by limiting the number of customers per CVC with a rough target of keeping a normal days utilization below the 80% mark (about 8Gig peak).

            • @Maths Debater: are you implying that origin is good?

              • +1

@Soldier: Origin is Aussie BB under the hood.

  • I was planning on getting the fttc upgrade to fttp via optus since I've been with them for many years now, but these plans from leap, ozb and other providers are so much cheaper..

The only benefit I get from optus is a free modem. Their service has been really good as well so I don't know if it's worth the potential risk of trying a new provider.

    • +5

You can always go back to Optus if you are dissatisfied with our service. Our plans are all no-lock in so there's no penalty for leaving. However I am confident that after trying us out you won't want to go back.

      • +1

I’ve got a bit of a silly questions if you’ll bear with me - I’m getting rinsed for $119 a month with Optus for 100/20, would be saving a decent chunk if I switched to your NBN plan with the same speed. I’d have to pay for the equipment optus gave me ($168), but that would mean I own that modem (Optus Ultra WiFi Gen 2 Modem)

If I was to pay for that equipment and move over to you guys, would I be able to use that Optus modem while having you as my service provider? If not, I imagine I’m best off staying with Optus, rather than spending $168 on this Optus modem then having to cough up for another router.

        Cheers!

        • How are you paying 119 for 100/20 at optus? I'm paying 99 for 100/40 with optus for the last 3 years!

Also I have asked the modem question to optus previously, if you keep/pay for their modem, it can be used with other providers.

          • +1

@deathjr: Optus Plus Family Entertainer Fast nbn 100/18 is $119 a month, I don’t really care for the Netflix but my missus refuses to cancel it, so I might as well get it cheaper with em. It seemed like a good idea at the time when it was $20 off a month for 12 months. These days… it’s a shocking deal.

Thanks for letting me know mate - I might give leaptel a buzz and make sure, and ask em to walk me through the process of moving providers so I don’t double dip for the first month

        • Apologies for the late reply. Assuming that modem does IPOE/DHCP it will work fine. We don't require any special configuration settings.

          • @LeaptelRep: All gravy baby, I gave y’all a buzz and confirmed with Optus that their modem isn’t locked, so we’re all systems go. See you in my bills account every month xx

  • Higher speed prices going down but lower speeds 50/20 for example going up is that correct.

    • That's right. There are 6-12 month 50/20 deals from various ISPs if that's all you want.

  • I have already upgraded to FTTP 6 months ago with Superloop.
Is there any penalty churning to Leaptel?

    • No but Superloop want 30-days notice now.

      • How does that work? Will Superloop keep the account open after churning?

    • +1

I don't believe so but you should check with Superloop, they could have penalties for some of their plans / promos

      • I checked the account, my contract term ended in May so there should not be an early termination fee.

        • Just to update Superloop do indeed charge for 30 days after you disconnect.

  • I dont have FTTP, just FTTC. asked them if i could get the FTTP 100/20 pricing on my FTTN. I am still on 50/20 and I was told No :(

    • The reason we are able to offer an additional $10 off on Fibre Upgrade is because NBN provides us with rebates for connections that are upgraded. Rather than taking these rebates we pass them on to customers.

Hopefully your connection will be eligable for upgrade soon, and then you can benefit as well. However on FTTC the minimum speed to upgrade is 250/25.

      • my max FTTC speed available from your site is 100/20

        • Yeah this would be under the FTTP upgrade program. FTTC can only do 100mbps max, but nbn is working through getting FTTP available for all FTTC addresses. But to get FTTP when your address is available you'll need to do 250Mbps/25Mbps (unless they change this in future).

    • Not all locations are eligible yet. What result do you get from nbn?.

      • Just says not available and to sign up for updates.

        • That link gets updated regularly. FTTP may become eligible by the years end.

        • +1

From more details about the NBN technology available in your area check https://lukeprior.github.io/nbn-upgrade-map/

          • @bauser99: you have a link for Victoria ? mvm saw the box at the top right corner to change loc

            • @Ryxxi: Just type in the name of your suburb and you’ll get what you need :)

  • +1

Hi @Twix. Thanks for the great post.
I will be moving into our new place soon. That home has nbn® Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC).
I suppose this doesn't impact me because I have HFC and this is only for FTTN/C?

    • +1

That's right. HFC is capable of 250/25 and 1000/50 if you want it.

      • +1

        Thanks mate.

  • Signed up on Saturday. Technician scheduled for 31/10 8-12. Do they do it all the one trip or spec it out first then come back another time?

    • +1

It depends on the job. It can be either one or multiple visits.

      • +1

great thanks Twix. So I should wait to cancel with my current provide (ABB) until I'm connected and running with Leaptel?

        • +1

Cancel Aussie BB FTTN/FTTC anytime after FTTP is up and running.

  • Damn, I signed up for a 500/50 plan this 16th OCT for $109

    • Contact Leaptel support and explain the situation, they may be able to help you out

  • How long is the deal around for? Fibre was just laid to our street and NBN site says we can upgrade soon.

    • There is no expiry date.

      • +1

        great news. Thank you!

  • I just signed up for FTTC->FTTP 1000/50 (500/50), but didn't opt for the bundled router. If I find once its installed that my current router is no good, can I then still get that $150 eero router from you?

    • +1
      • +1

Cool thanks. I should be ok I have a couple of existing routers to try. I just want to make sure I get the full WAN-to-LAN speeds. Although it will probably be fine until December anyway, then the upgrade to 1000mbit will be the real test.

Speaking of which, do we need to do anything from our end for that upgrade from 500mbit to 1000 to get it to kick in?

My new leaptel install is scheduled for the 15th Nov. The NBN side of it was all done yesterday, so there is a box with fibre stuck to the side of my house ready and waiting, that only took 1 day from ordering.

        • Leaptel swap the speeds on their side.

And as indicated, all 500mbps/50Mbps plans will be converted at no additional cost to 1Gbps once CVC is removed from 1 December. You will not need to do anything to get this; we will upgrade your service ourselves.

  • I signed up to the upgrade last week at the previous price of $89 for 250/25. I just messaged Leaptel support, and they will bring the price down for me to $79.

Have been with these guys for a year now (thanks to the deal that was posted here last year!). Great service and support has been excellent. I can def recommend!

  • I’m paying $109/m for 500/50 HFC, so I guess nothing will change for me?

  • I already have 1gbps with ABB.
If I churn across December 1st, am I still entitled to the same pricing offered in this promotion?
    1000/50 $89 12 months

    • $99/month for 12 months.

      • +1

        Thanks for the reply.

Forgive me, I don’t understand why existing FTTP customers wouldn’t be entitled to the same deal.

If I am a new customer, wouldn’t the end result to the ISP be the same.

        • nbn are giving ISPs rebates when they change from FTTN/FTTC to FTTP. $99/month for Gigabit is as good as it gets right now.

          • @Twix: Interesting. So everyone gets an upgrade to fiber and cheaper plans for 12 months whilst the existing FTTP customers get nothing.
            A little sucky

            • @InLaymansTerms: At least your on FTTP. Many won't get upgraded to FTTP for another year or two or not at all. Gigabit was $150/month a couple years ago.

              • +1

@Twix: Definitely grateful I have FTTP. I had HFC for 10 years until I moved into an area with FTTP. Night and day.

I’m paying $150/month at the moment with ABB.
Their prices are dropping also but it’s disappointing I can’t join a new ISP and benefit from a 12 month discount.

  • Hi, I see you have a long running promotion as seen here where the 100/20 plan is $65 for 12mths then goes to $90 ( why does it give a $25 discount but it says $15 discount ? ): https://i.imgur.com/4tP8zgD.png

However when I go to sign up to the 100/20 plan I get a price increase and it says the same 100/20 plan is $75 instead of $90:
    https://i.imgur.com/mueMbEp.png

    Why is that happening?

    • +1

You get an additional $10 off if you upgrade from FTTN/C to FTTP - if you do not (because you are not eligible or are already on FTTP) then you don't get the $10 off

    • So as bauser99 indicated, there is an additional $10 off for fibre upgrade addresses. That is what the pricing on https://leaptel.com.au/nbn-fibre-upgrade/ is referring to. It has an address checker which will let you know if you're eligible or not, and if not refer you to our standard pricing page.
