  • @LeaptelRep I can't find these details in the T&Cs.

    1. Is this for new customers only or existing and new customers?
    2. When is the expiry date?
    • +4

Existing, I've had some family change over to FTTP on the discounted plans.

    • +1
      1. Got the nbn FTTN to FTTP 100/20 $64.95/M deal as an existing customer via emailing Leaptel.
    • +3
      1. Both new and existing customers can access the fibre upgrade pricing.
      2. There is no expiry date it is our ongoing fibre upgrade campaign pricing. It is funded through a rebate from nbn that we pass along.
      • +1

Excellent news. Thanks for the update.

        • +1

Note that they wouldn't (couldn't?) pass on the additional $10 NBN rebate to me as I previously upgraded to FTTP with another provider. Seems fair/logical. YMMV.

      • +1

what if my place is already FTTP by the current provider and just wanted to avail your discounted pricing? does that work?
        Thanks

        • You wouldn't have access to this specific pricing but we do have a range of promo pricing available on nbn at https://leaptel.com.au/nbn-plans/.

          • +1

@LeaptelRep: What a shame. I'm on the same boat as angelkulit025. $79 would have been a great deal to port out from another ISP. :)

  • Am I correct that nbnco will pay to install the media converter, but I'm responsible for all cabling from the media converter into my house?

    • From what I could gather, any trenching and conduit if for your cost, I don't know up to what point that is but I'd guess from the street into your house.
Maybe someone who's been through the process can enlighten us.

    • nbn does the fibre NTD and you can organize a cabler to run ethernet to various locations.

      • Anyone has experience or recommendations for good honest cabler. I live in South East Melbourne

        • +10

Find a cabler. Get a minimum of 3 quotes.

          • +2

@Twix: Thanks again for your help 😊

      • +3

I signed up with Aussie Broadband with their free upgrade to FTTP and it was exactly that: free. The guy put the modem in the room I asked him to (about half-way back from the front of the house). He had to run a conduit and cable through the roof and I wasn't charged for any of it.

    • +7

Nbn will do 60 metres of cabling from the pit to the utility box on the outside of your house, then 40 metres from the utility box to the nbn connection box inside your home.
If you need longer distances than that, you’ll need to utilise a registered cabler.

      • +2

This doesn't cover going above the first floor(house) level I think; my nbn tech told me he wasn't allowed to do that.

        • +2

I haven’t seen that caveat in their documents, but I’ll confirm and update tomorrow.

          • @ONEMariachi: I've been through the fttp process about a year ago.

Can confirm they do not run upstairs. We had to hire our owner cabler and call the nbn guy back to finish the install later.

    • +4

An NBN guy installed my Fiber to my kitchen.. ran a conduet through the ceiling for free. No extra cost. .. pretty simple.. he said the norm is just putting the modem near where the outside box is but i didnt want my modem in the garrage

  • +1

I assume if I have HFC, this is different to FTTP?

    • +4

HFC is different and there is no free HFC to FTTP upgrade path.

      • Yep.

        We are stuck in shittyHFCville

    • +4

      I have HFC

Sorry for your loss. Change suburb perhaps

      • +2

        I'm on HFC …

        I WANT THESE PRICEs AHHH

      • +6

What loss ? HFC is usually already capable of the higher speeds 🤷🏼‍♂️

        • The loss is on the latency.

          10-15 vs 1-2ms

So you are getting 10x faster responses to requests

          • @stewface: These numbers are basically irrelevant for normal use cases though - latency of 10-15ms is absolutely fine, even for gaming.

            • @Nom: But I wanna be the next flashboys

            • @Nom: RIP to all the esports players :(

      • HFC only bad in some places

      • What’s wrong with HFC? Had a gigabit connection for 4 years now it’s great.

        • +1

bad latency and stability compared to fiber
          no real upgrade path

          • @commiewealth: Agreed on all these points.

          • @commiewealth: This is just not true.

It's absolutely not "bad latency" 🤷🏼‍♂️

It's just higher than fibre - but still in the realm of "perfectly fine".

The same goes for stability - in my area it's perfectly fine. I've used it for over a decade and it's been stable as a rock for that whole period.

If it sucks in your area then that sucks - but let's not pretend that's HFC as a whole.

            • @Nom: Fair points, although FTTP doesn't have 'bad areas' like HFC can

      • +1

        Say what?

HFC is good, depends on your area, YMMV:
        https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/213835/107591/leaptel_…

        • +2

          depends on your area

Well this is why… If you have a bad reception with this, there is nothing you can do about it than changing suburbs and when hfc is bad, its so horrible. fttp on the otherhand is far more reliable and the shared bandwidth from the node is lot higher resulting is better experience even during peek times.
This is on a 100/40 fttp connection -> https://ibb.co/WBhYf6G (check the latency difference between the two)

          • +1

            @kaleidoscope: That's good.
Anything under 12 is pretty good, and I don't even game really. Btw ran the test over wifi.

Anyway HFC is always good where I am, but cancelled spinel as soon as I got it, terrible.
Don't think you can do the free upgrade from HFC anyway but was more of a +1 for Leaptel mate.

    • +1

I have HFC as well, two new build houses went in about 4 blocks up the road from me. They ran green fibre cable (FTTP) in the pits to the new houses past my house. I can't get fibre even though it's running right past my house.

      • Units here too

Sorry, nbn presently has no published plans to upgrade your technology type to fibre. However your nbn HFC technology is already able to achieve our highest plan speeds. Please check out our plans.

HFC is more that good I've found.

  • +3

Currently on their 100/20 plan for the past 4 months and no issues! (SA)

    Highly recommended.

Referrals via ozbargain may be breaking ToS (dotpoint 13).

    • +2

referral discounts dont work for promotions

      • they do aftwr 6 months or smth

      • Referral does not get 50 for this plan?

  • +2

Why didn't I think to post this for some good juicy karma.

  • How long do you have to stay on the higher speed plan for? Is it just 12 months? Then could you technically go back to say a 100/20 plan?

    • +2

nbn say 12 months. Leaptel don't penalize those that change your plan earlier.

  • Is the modem included in the plan

    • +1

No the eero 6+ router costs extra. https://leaptel.com.au/hardware/

      • I presume I would still need a modem if I use the eero 6+?

        • +1

Plug in the eero router to the nbn NTD.

        • +1

You don't need a modem, just a router.
Plug the WAN port from your router into the activated port on the NTD (NBN fibre box).

        • More NBN has it for free.

    • +5

With FTTP you don't need a MODEM but you need a ROUTER

  • +2

What about if you don't have an NBN connection at all? Could you still get this deal?

Have been on 100/20 fixed wireless for years which has been an excellent and very reliable service.

FTTP is available at my address using the NBN address check.

    • Is there a Telstra box or old landline telephone at your place? My NBN tech pulled the fibre cable through using the copper lead in wire.

      • Are they allowed to put the first box on the inside? We have conduit running copper wires underground from the street straight to the inside of the house

        • They installed my box inside my garage, but I had to sign a waiver to allow it.

          • @Ozitravel: Ah, very interesting, thanks. I don't like the idea of it sitting out where thieves can easily disable it and come back another day

      • We did have a landline when we moved in ~20 years ago so there are a couple of old landline points in the house.

    • +1

As long as your address is eligible under the upgrade program you can get this promotion. Just run it through our address checker on the deal page (https://leaptel.com.au/nbn-fibre-upgrade/) to confirm.

  • I wonder if this price change will include Opticomm?

    • +2

      Not yet.

Opticomm: We have not forgotten you! However Opticomm has categorically told us they have not yet finalised their pricing revisions and we are awaiting this. We'll update our Opticomm pricing on the website as soon as we can.

      • Any chance that 1000/400 is coming back, or that just for business now…?

        • OptiComm - I don't think Leaptel does 1000/400. Launtel doesn't require an ABN for 1000/400.

nbn - Future Broadband and Launtel doesn't require an ABN for 1000/400.

Launtel is $12.20 per day and Future Broadband is $345 per month.

          • +1

@Twix: Leaptel used to have it a few years ago, I had it for a month in late 2019. Cost $150 for 1000/400. Shame that someone at Opticomm decided that homeowners don't deserve good internet, in order to be able to charge business prices for it. Yes, I'm very bitter that I can't afford to host my own plex server hahahahaha

            • @sickaunt: Leaptel are doing 1000/400 on OptiComm. $309/month for 6 months and $329/month after that. I don't know if the price will change when OptiComm finalize things.

  • Whats the go with 500/50 becomint 1000/50 in dec?

I upgraded 2 months ago with leaptel from fttc on 500/50 &
    $99.
    Will that affect me?

    • +1

And as indicated, all 500mbps/50Mbps plans will be converted at no additional cost to 1Gbps once CVC is removed from 1 December. You will not need to do anything to get this; we will upgrade your service ourselves. Full comms will be coming out to customers in the coming weeks, so think of this as a Whirlpool head start at this stage.

      Leaptel.

      • +1

Is 1000/50 pricing $89 for 12 month contract or no contract and open to change after the initial 12 month period?

ABB dropping their price of 1000/50 (which has been realistically consistently been 500/40) to $129 from $149.

Leaptel is almost the half price, how?!?!

I have RT-AX82U so probably could take advantage of all the bumps in the speed!

        • No contract. You can change your speed whenever.

        • So is leaptel pricing going to be $89 a month for 1000/50mbps?

  • Where have they stated that the 500/50 plan will become a 1000/50 plan in December? I can't seem to find it anywhere on their site or critical fact sheet?

  • So my address has HFC, am I eligible for this? I’m a bit confused about the upgrade path here thanks folks

    • +1

      Not anytime soon.

    • +1

If you have HFC then it should already be capable of the higher speed plans - you don't need any upgrade. Just sign up to the plan you want.

I think there are some areas of HFC that aren't capable of the 1Gb plan, not sure what happens if you're in this category…

      • Not anymore. All HFC areas are capable of up to 1000/50.

  • +1

Does leaptel work with the Telstra Smart Modem? (DJA0230)

    • +2

      Yeah it does.

  • +1

I'm currently paying 74.95 for 100/20 FTTP… Any way to get the better price or upgrade to 100/40 at the same price?

  • @Twix I'm currently using a D-Link DSL-2888A for my FFTN Leaptel connection. My address is available for an upgrade to FFTP, would I need to buy a new router or could I use my existing one?

What fees are charged if I have to cancel the FTTP connection early? I'm moving overseas in ~8 months, but could always rent our house with internet included if necessary.

    • +1

Use the D-Link DSL-2888A WAN port to the nbn NTD.

      $0 with Leaptel.

    • I have the same dlink , it will work with fttp. But I am experiencing wifi drop/disconnection issue. Planing upgrade to a wifi 6 router. Never happened with fttn for 5 years.

      • Is your setup configured with Dynamic IP or PPPoE? I was on Dynamic IP when I was first with Leaptel and was experiencing frequent dropouts. I reconfigured the router to use PPPoE and they have stopped

        • connection type shows PPPoE,
my case is not really internet drop, only the wifi, cos when that happen, the ethernet still works fine.

  • Address check
"We are aiming to be available from September 2024, but with each area providing different construction hurdles, these dates may change."
    .

    • When I checked my address a few months ago it said October 2023.
      It now says:

We are aiming to be available from December 2023, but with each area providing different construction hurdles, these dates may change.

What are the chances when I check back in December 2023 it will say March 2024?

  • Anyone know rough time to get them out to do the work. I CAN’T have it happen in the next two weeks.

    • That depends on worker availability in your area. Contact Leaptel.

    • Pretty sure you can organise the dates with the ISP for NBN to come out. Just call them or send an email to their support and ask.

    • You'll automatically get it scheduled. But you can just call your RSP and reschedule it
