So about 3 month free. Not bhad.

    • +6

About a year too late though.

When I switched to Launtel from TPG at roughly the same time last year, TPG had a manager call me, asking me to stay because I was a long time customer since 2007. I told him there was nothing that he could do to make me stay, as I wanted FTTP bad, like been literally waiting for it for 10 years.

If they joined the free FTTP upgrade bandwagon sooner I probably would have stayed.

      • +1

At least you got a call LOL.

I was a long-time member too but switched to another provider so that I could upgrade to FTTP

  • +8

You'll need to upgrade to their Superfast plan at $95/month (for the first 6 months)
I upgraded with More about 12 months ago and my NBN has stopped dropping out everytime it rains

    • Were you on HFC previously?

      • +12

I think copper is notorious for this as the pit fills up - so Fttn probably. In most suburbs the hfc is strung on the poles.

My hfc drops when a sparrow farts. Thanks liberals!

        • +4

Ooof. My HFC is amazing. I'm consistently getting the 1000Mb speed I pay for.

        • +3

Yeah my hfc is decent but all underground. I am on a 1000 connection but drops down to around 300 during peak hour. But suspect that's more provider than hfc being limited. It works for me as my wife and I work from home and during work hours it's getting full speed. Only thing is we need faster uploads but it's just not economically viable to go on nbn business ethernet.

My kid constantly complains about ping when gaming though.

          • +3

@Name: “lol, back in my day we had 56kB modems - ping times were slower than you could count aloud” 🤪

          • @Name: Is any provider have good offer on lower speed 50/20?

          • +1

            @Name:

            Provider

Yah Launtel HFC is rock solid, ping and speed no matter the time of day.

      • +5

FTTC and then 2 spans of copper to my house. Whenever moderate-hard rain would start it would knock me out for about a minute, NBN had no idea why so jumped when I could upgrade and no issues with dropouts at all since

        • +5

I can’t wait until this is an option for HFC

    • Same, but with MyRepublic NBN for three years, rain would result in frequent dropouts for a couple of days after. Switched to More and it's been perfect.

  • +17

these guys shutting down iinet email accounts caused a mountain of nuisance for me n my boomer parents

      • +4

Hence boomers. Also, my wife wanted a non-free sounding email for home business so we pay escapenet about $40 a year for that email address after churning away (kinda sucks).

        • +2

cheaper to buy a domain and setup icloud email or something…requires a bit of fiddling around though

          • +1

@thestooge: Yep, but she refuses to change the address. Anyway, it’s < $1 a week vs her (part time) income, so I can’t be bothered.

  • Select locations = targeted?

    • +3

See the NBN site for locations. Just need to enter your address to see if you qualify (locations are not selected/limited by TPG).
      https://www.nbnco.com.au/residential/upgrades/more-fibre

      • Yeah making it targeted…

        • +1

It's wherever they have technicians working on the upgrades, so just register your details and eventually you'll be contacted when they are in your area (if you are on FttN or FttC).

      • Im showing as HFC - does that mean i am eligible?

        • +2

HFC is not being changed to FTTP for free anytime soon.

    • FYI it's not just dependant on where they have techs. I'm in a units/townhouses complex and can't access the upgrade from my FTTN. The FTTN houses across the street are eligible.

      • Is there 5 or more units in your complex?

  • +1

Looks like nothing for the new customers already with FTTP

    • +1

It's an incentive to move to fibre.

  • Damn, I had to pay $200 for this last year, though I get it back after a year

  • Is there any catch by upgrading to FTTP? How prices will compare to the previous same speed connection?

    • +4

      Less drop outs
      Better latency

    • Not sure tpg, many others require You at least on 100/20 for 12 months.

    • Cheaper with the FTTP deals on offer.

      • Cheaper with the FTTP deals on offer

Do you mean by shopping around? My provider only shows different speeds.

        • Yep you might have to since some ISPs deals are only for new customers.

  • I upgraded to fttp 3 months ago from fttn, and I believe the connection is fine, but my modem is acting weird. 5G lost signal every couple days(back to work after reboot) , 2.4g become extremely slow(unable to open a website). When that happen, the ethernet still works fine. Maybe I need to get a new router/modem. This never happened when I was on fttn.

    • VDSL2 modem and router all-in-ones are not needed on FTTP. You only need to purchase a router.

      • Could you please advise me on the best router which you would buy

          1. What speed tier are you going to go on?
          2. How much do you want to spend?
          3. Does a single router provide enough Wi-Fi coverage or do you need multiple in a mesh Wi-Fi setup?
          • @Twix: 100/20,
            400$
I have Amazon mesh as add on for now
There is modem router on officeworks website for 345
ASUS DSL-AX82U AX5400 Dual Band WiFi 6 Modem Router
Is there any 6e option available around that price range

            • +1

@raj76: Amazon Eero router is capable of 100/20 and you plug it into the FTTP NTD that gets installed.

There is a TP-Link Deco XE75 Pro Wi-Fi 6E router. For a 1-pack $327.90, 2-pack $499 delivered @ Amazon AU. Check The Good Guys if you have access to a commercial account. Asus has the Asus RT-AXE7800 Tri-Band Wi-Fi 6E Router for $605. Either the Asus or TP-Link router replaces the Amazon Eero router.

              • +1

@Twix: Thank you for your help 😊

      • +1

understand. the thing is i have the dsl 2888a for fttn for years, unless i have to i don't really want to spend extra.

        • Then just use that. You just won't be using the DSL part of it and usinng it purely as a router.
Simply plug a network cable from the Fibre NTD that will be installed into the WAN port and it'll work.
All recent modem routers or routers can be used on fibre NBN.
Generally ISP supplied ones aren't locked down anymore and will have a WAN port.
Just keep in mind WiFi 6 & 7 are far more efficient/better performance for new devices.

          • @SimAus007: That's what I am doing right now. However I am sick of the wifi disconnection issue and thinking of getting a new router. Since mesh is not necessary, I am considering the tplink axe75 router. so far in my house only 2 mobiles support 6E, everything else are still 5 and below. Is it overkill?

  • I tried to signup through this link and it gives be error 403 forbidden ??

  • I guess the hard bit is for those houses that arent fttp ready i.e. me.
I have to go from the outside, through the roof, drop cable down into the garage. Gonna cost me 700ish bucks to do all this. Aussie BBq is offering free upgrade and $50 to referral. Major problem i had with tpg internet is the traffic routing to asia is pretty bad so alot of my games have high pings

    • If you ask really nicely, the NBN installer may be able to do it for you. This is exactly what I had done. Sure he grumbled about it but he still did a great job with it.

  • I am with their lower tier plans, would I be considered a new customer if I change? Also once I upgrade to FTTP can I downgrade back once the honeymoon period is over?

  • +2

Are you considered a new customer if you move from internode to TPG?

  • +1

I might be being dense here, but where does it mention the $250 credit?

    • +3

Down the bottom of https://www.tpg.com.au/nbn under Promotion Terms, Fibre Upgrade Bonus Credit Offer Terms.

      • +1

        Ooooh. Thanks!

  • How much does the upgrade cost you?

    • +1

      Notionally free

  • -1

I'm with FTTP iinet can I get the credit?

    • Only if you are changing to FTTP. I don't think iiNet will apply the credit if you already have FTTP. Ask them.

    • Change from nbn FTTN/FTTC to FTTP & Get Bonus $250 Credit (New Customers) or Bonus $100 Credit (Existing Customers) @ TPG/iiNet

      NO

  • +2

If i read correctly the nbn 100 should be becoming cheaper across the board. https://www.whistleout.com.au/Broadband/News/NBN-wholesale-p…

    • Aussie Broadband has already passed this on for me.

It was only a $4/month saving. But still better than nothing.

  • +1

I'd like to know NBNco's update schedule. My suburb has been on there for like 2 years at this point but I still cannot upgrade..

    • FTTC or FTTN? What is your suburb?

      • FTTN, Dianella

        • About half of Dianella can get FTTP now. Soon for the other half.

We are aiming to be available from December 2023, but with each area providing different construction hurdles, these dates may change.

    • Exact same issue for me. How do i get anything better than shitty fttn?

  • Since there is rebate for $100 from Tpg, what modem would be best value for money. Thanks in advance for your support

    • +1

Amount modems i bought when I was with TPG ridiculous, never worked with their services

      • +2

It works fine if you follow the instructions to setup PPPOE and vlan tagging

        • +1

Note: TPG don't use VLAN on nbn FTTP. PPPoE with your TPG username and password only.

        • trust me i did

  • -2

Don't bother , modem they supply fry over 2 months .
    Stay with Telstra

    • Your sample size is 1 and Telstra is one of the worst RSPs to deal with, not to mention being more expensive. You can use your own modem, btw, no need to purchase theirs.

  • +1

Tried signing up and get an error when i try to buy now… Tried on both wifi and my mobile network on diff devices.

    • +1

      Me too

This site can’t provide a secure connection

    • +1

Same error for me, for the last few days. Tried from 3 different networks. Surely this is happening to everyone!? I'm waiting on live chat to respond.

  • TPG's communications is pretty poor. I signed up on the 22nd. They cut my existing internet today (26th). After an hour on the phone to support I now realise that I will be on TPG FTTN for 2 to 6 weeks whilst waiting for the NBN techs to finish the house installation. I had to put my TPG username and password into my modem to get back online.

    • That is mentioned in the TPG Fibre Upgrade Terms link. I will make it more clear in my deal post. Thanks.

      Interim service
While you are waiting for your upgrade installation, we will provide you with an interim NBN100 service (critical information summary). You will be required to register for this interim service at the same time as registering for the Upgrade Offer.

  • Beware of TPG.

I called them to cancel my service 3 months ago. They didnt cancel my service and keep charging me.

After further reading on the internet, they asked for a written email to cancel their service, which customer service didnt tell me.

  • Does TPG charge you a penalty if I downgrade back to 100/20 or 50/20 after the fiber upgrade with 6 months? I read somewhere that NBN will charge the ISP but seems like some ISP will absorb the fee while some will pass it on. Doesn’t seem like this is mentioned in the TPG fiber upgrade term but I thought I should just check and make sure I didn’t miss anything important before taking the offer.

    • I don't think TPG charges the penalty. Get TPG to confirm it.

  • Just got a letter in the mail about this.

They're currently offering $30/month off plans for 6 months too.

  • So if i was to sign up with TPG for the NBN100 plan at $79.99 per month for the first 6 months then $89.99 going forward I'd get a $250 credit so essentially the first 12 months cost would work out on average $64.14 per month? ($79.99 x 6)+($89.99 x 6) -($250)/12.
Is this the best value option at the moment?
And how long does the FTTP upgrade take?

    • +1

      $250 TPG credit gets applied after FTTP is activated. 100/20 $79.99/m x 6 = $479.94 - $250 TPG credit = $229.94. Swap ISP after 6 months eg. Superloop 100/20 $69/m for 6 months.

FTTP can be completed in a couple hours. At worst multiple appointments during a month.

      • +1

        Great thanks.
Assuming the TPG router will work with Superloop or whoever else I was to change to to get the best deals?

        • +1

It does. Personally I prefer to purchase my own router.

        • Quick question about the rebate - what if the modem is worth less than $100? I am looking at a router that is only $59, would that give me a $100 credit, or only $59? They aren't very specific on this

  • How long do they normally take to activate the service?

    • It took exactly 1 business day (in my case) to activate the interim FTTN service - didn't have to change any PPP details (it ignored/accepted previous details).
nbn FTTP install scheduled for second half of January.
      $100 Modem rebate just submitted.
