  • Hi, anyone tried the card with Agoda or other international website (with AUD) payment? I read somewhere HSBC will charge 3% regardless AUD payment. Thanks

    • I have noticed if you use Apple Pay in AUD you won’t get hit with international processing fees

    • i've never noticed that happen to me

  • Just got approval a few days ago and registered for alliance/aeroplan membership. Do we have to manually connect HSBC Acc and Alliance/Aeroplan or it s already done for us (assuming the latter). Thanks

    • +1

HSBC and Star alliance accounts are automatically linked as the invitation to register for star alliance account comes from HSBC. You need to link the Aeroplan account to Star alliance account yourself. You can do it anytime, you also get two weeks to update it after receiving star alliance gold confirmation email.

    • hi, do you mind sharing how many days between submitting income documents and receiving approval?

i've been waiting for 2.5 weeks now ever since submitting my documents, everytime i call them, the Philippines call center staff give me the same copy/paste answer saying that they are having high volumes of application, the application has been referred to the final team for endorsement, etc….

      • My application lasted 3 weeks but rejected. My wife s application took about 2 weeks and approved. Imho, hsbc back office is quite a mess. similar to you I was asked repeated questions until one day I said no more.

        • "said no more"? does that mean you told them to cancel the application? yes this has to be the worst experience i've ever had and i've applied for credit cards with almost all the providers in Australia.

anyway it's good to know it's not just me. someone else in this thread said they were approved within 3-4 days, seems there's a huge variation. maybe some people get automatically approved and the unlucky ones like us get sent to back office for manual review

          • @k2k8k5: Sorry, what i meant I told them that I d send whatever they need. but since it was repeated questions I told them that would be last one. I gave my feedback to my friend who works for the bank. She said she knows abt the problem with their back office

      • Applied on 17th Jan, conditionally approved. Next day they asked to submit NOA. Application approved on 20th Jan. Card delivered today.

  • Hi all, applied 22/1 and received “conditional approval” email pending completion of verification etc. Today I received a call from HSBC - they mention that to complete verification at AusPost will require: a self-attested ID (eg drivers licence), current payslip and bank statement confirming 2 salary deposits. The form contained in the email suggested that simply presenting a drivers licence would suffice. Has anyone experienced similar?

    • yep, i'm mad because the form said payslip OR bank statement but they've since asked for both and then when i uploaded a summary they then asked for a utility bill

  • By the way, do you only get 50k status and points?

  • Got the 50k on AC as soon as I've reached the required spend, before the first statement was even closed.

    • The status or the points?

      • +1

Both. My AC account shows 50K and "Star Alliance Gold".
Card received 17/12, got an email to confirm the designated Airline and FF number, started spending and on 19/1 the 50k and gold status were updated on AC.

The account/virtual card actually shows "0 pts" followed by a square and "50K", the info "Credit Card Holder" and the Star Alliance Gold symbol.

The only painful part of the process was to create the AC number on AC website as two laptops (Windows and Macbook) returned an unspecified error many times, on different days (tried to fill that form more than ten times, possibly close to 20). Was almost giving up the 50k and choosing another FF, but decided to try the work desktop and it worked 1st time. I will never understand the reason…

        • +1

I'm in the same predicament as I've got Star Alliance Gold and the 50k status tier, but no points.

My virtual card on the AC app shows 0 points.

  • I had my HSBC credit card approved, but my Air Canada Aeroplan account got blocked due to a 'VPN' issue. Trying to reach Aeroplan is an absolute nightmare.

  • So just confirming - if I’m starting from scratch (ie no existing Krisflyer membership), after receiving the 50k free points, is there any downside to continuing to accumulate within Aeroplan ?

It appears I can book any Star Alliance (eg Singapore airlines) reward flights from within Aeroplan’s site, and Krisflyer doesn’t appear to offer any other ability to earn points than via ccard?

    • No downside, I just would just drop it before the $425 annual fee. Also there is a big annual spend requirement to keep gold status after the first year.

      • Thanks. Unfortunately my family will spend enough to keep gold status… but I might look out for other points offerings before the annual fee kicks in

  • Anyone has an email for Aeroplan? For the missing 50k bonus pts, Hsbc sent me to star alliance which sent me to air Canada and I can't find a form or an email

    Edit: found.. something.
    https://accc-prod.microsoftcrmportals.com/en-CA/air-canada-c…

    • A lot of buck passing going on here - should be a simple thing right? Frustrating when you are waiting to book flights watching the point values increase……

    • Have you gotten any response from that link? I've submitted a form via that link today.

      • No, not yet

        • That's unfortunate. I can't find any other way to contact Aeroplan also.

I've tried 1-800-361-5373 but the people who answer say that number is only for booking flights. They couldn't give me another number to call.

          • @Bmriel: Update; I still did not receive a reply but I did finally get my 50k points, and unsure if it's because of my enquiry or not

            • @lawyerz: What date did you get 50k status?

              • @MnM007: Must have deleted the email by accident, from memory early Dec.

i'm looking to use this card to purchase flights on singapore air through their website to take advantage of the 6 months interest free. I reached star alliance gold a few months ago (via the air canada thing) but my question is when booking through the singapore air website, how do they know i am star alliance gold since i reached it through air canada?? i want to take advantage of the extra baggage allowance, or is it just a matter of flashing star alliance gold status at the airport when i arrive?

    • You just add your Air Canada Aeroplan number in the booking. You should see the airlines selection dropdown - select AC and add your AC number.

    • +1

If you miss adding it to your booking. You can always add your Aeroplan number at the check in counter. They'll validate it and allow the extra perks (baggage, seating etc) and then issue lounge passes. Used it on the weekend to fly to Singapore on Singapore Airlines.

      • Do they issue lounge passes separately? Can you go to multiple as thinking of checking out both Air NZ lounge and Silver Kris at Melb airport,

        • Haven't tried this but went to the Singapore Silver Kris Business Lounge. Access to the lounge was listed on the boarding pass.

          • @yh786: I managed to enter both silver Kris and air NZ lounge at Melbourne airport showing my aeroplan 50k membership card 😀

      • can you just flash your star alliance gold status (via air canada app) to get singapore lounge access or?

        • Star Alliance Gold Customers travelling in any class of travel

As a Star Alliance Gold customer travelling in any class on a Star Alliance member airline operated flight, you have access to any member airline lounge at the airport where your flight departs, if the following conditions are met:

You present your boarding pass of a Star Alliance member airline operated flight which departs at the same day as your visit or latest by 05:00 AM the next morning.
If your boarding pass does not carry the Star Alliance Gold indicator, you will need to also show your valid Star Alliance Gold card.
The lounge displays the Star Alliance Gold logo at the entrance.
You are entitled to bring one guest travelling on any Star Alliance flight departing from the same airport on the same day. As of May 3, 2021, the guest must be traveling on the same flight.

      • Do you know if the extra baggage is added onto Aeroplan flight redemption?

Note if you ask hard enough they can add a secondary airline membership to the flight like Krisflyer to gain the free wifi for economy flights. This can only be done at a counter.

  • Does anyone know if the end date of the 29th Feb 2024 refers to just when you must have applied for the card by or when you must have applied, been approved, met the minimum spend and be set up as Air Canada Gold by? If it's the latter I don't like my odds!

  • Feel like pure shit, just want my bonus points x

  • Whats the best way for an average bozo to use up their 50k aeroplan points?

I fly domestically a couple times a year, NZ once a year and then overseas holidays which would probably be too difficult to work around

  • Would you lose the Velocity points and status earned from the flight if you update the frequent flyer number to Air Canada?

  • how long does it take for Gold to reflect Air Canada website after you have met the spend and received the email from Star Alliance.

  • +4

I just got my 50,000 points, backdated on my Aeroplan transaction statement to 2 December.

Not sure if it's as a result of my contact to Air Canada customer service via their webform, or if hopefully they're processing a batch right now for the outstanding bonuses.

    • Did you get an email notification or did you have to log in to check?

      • +1

No email notification, it showed up on my points balance on the app.

        • Thanks. Do you have a link to the form you used?

          • @Bruiserh89: No sorry, its the one you get to on Air Canada website when following up about Aeroplan and exhausting all the other options

            • @Uzb9811: Could you put together a step by step to help us get to the right form?
That will help a lot of us.
              Thanks

              Edit:

I think this is the link to use:

              https://accc-prod.microsoftcrmportals.com/en-CA/air-canada-c…

Enter all your details on page 1 of the form and when you get to the flight information just press next.
It will take you to page 3 where you can enter your message and submit it.

After you submit it you will receive an email with a case number assigned to it and a link to check on its progress. However the link to check on its progress did not work for me.

              Hope this helps.

    • Thanks. I might try the form to see if that's the answer. I assume you got an email saying you'd received the points? Also do you have a link to the form? I can't find it.

    • I think theyve done a batch - my wife's balance has now increased also (and the Aeroplan txn history says that they arrived on 14 Dec - lol)

      • Or maybe that enquiry re-started the frozen batch processing service :)

    • Hi - can I ask do the points come directly to Air Canada or Star Alliance? I have received my first statement points in the Star Alliance Account. Do we manually transfer them to Air Canda through Star Alliance website?

  • In case anyone needs to upload additional documents but is unable to do so via the Retrieve Application link, the email address provided by one of their service consultants is [email protected] and include your Application Reference Code.

  • +3

Finally got my points today too!

  • Got the points, my 1st statement was on 28Dec.

  • Still no points for me. But good to see others getting them. Hopefully next batch for me!

  • Got my points too.

    Minimum spend met 12th Dec
27th Dec got Gold with Air Canada

Points were backdated to 26th Dec

    • Wtf! I've got the air canada email re gold status on 30 Nov, almost a month before you, and still hasn't received my bonus points. That's not fair :(

      • I’m the exact same. I got the email on 30th November and still no points!

      • Same here - achieved gold status on 2nd of December.
I have logged a support call earlier today. Hopefully that will speed things up.

        • Did you select Aeroplan as your preferred status airline before or after getting the Star Alliance gold? I did it before.

          • @Sharp: I did it before. Then after I got gold I had to wait 2 weeks as per star alliance.

            • @MnM007: Same here. I wonder if it has anything to do with this delay. You may read the instructions in a way that you get gold first and then select Aeroplan as your preffered airline.

Apply for a new HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card:

              • Spend $4,000 AUD or more on eligible purchases in your first 90 days from account opening (this will Fast Track you to Star Alliance Gold Status1).
              • Log on to Star Alliance Rewards and select Aeroplan as your preferred status airline. After qualifying, please allow 6 to 8 weeks for the 50,000 Aeroplan point welcome bonus to be posted to your Aeroplan account.

              https://www.aircanada.com/au/en/aco/home/aeroplan/credit-car…

              • @Sharp: Don't think so - offthetap below said he connected Aeroplan before (like us).
He achieved gold on 11/12/2023 and he got the points today.

Plus even if we did that, after gold we had to re-do the selection and wait 2 weeks anyway.

                • @MnM007: Cool. That's not that then.

                  • @Sharp: I am trying to look at the dates ppl posted, but not enough to confirm my theory.

What I am thinking is that the batch process (which should run every day to process the points) didn't work for a while. When it got restarted it stared processing dates backwards (from today back for example).

If that is the case, from the dates some ppl mentioned here it should get to us pretty soon.

But most probably my theory is 100% wrong and that is not it LOL :)

  • Is there an easy way to determine which transactions are eligible?

    • The way I do it is if it is cash advance, local government (council rates etc), state government (car registration etc) or federal government (ATO etc) then they will not be eligible transactions.

  • finally got my points credited

    • Congrats! When did you achieve your gold status/get the email?? I’m still waiting on mine!

      • got the gold status email on 11/12/2023

        • Not long at all, considering other ppl s case. Did you connect aeroplan after u got gold status email or before? Thanks

    • Hi - can I ask do the points come directly to Air Canada or Star Alliance? I have received my first statement points in the Star Alliance Account. Do we manually transfer them to Air Canda through Star Alliance website?

  • Anyone knows if we can convert aeroplan/air Canada points to another airlines like Krisflyer? I looked at their website to convert and only find hotels conversion under travel. Thanks

    • The buck passing here is incredible - should be a very straightforward, automated process based on qualification date. My email was 25/11. There are people on here who qualified far later than I yet have received points. I'm with you - I will avoid these three "businesses" in future. They have breached the terms and conditions of the offer - can you imagine if a customer did that?

      • I agree. My email was 30/11 and still haven’t received points. I’ve submitted a form to Air Canada and also a complaint to HSBC. Hopefully both submissions will get me somewhere

        • I really think is Air Canada that is passing buck.

If you look at the HSBC offer it doesn't mention any bonus points from Air Canada, just the Star Alliance Gold Status:

          https://www.hsbc.com.au/credit-cards/products/star-alliance/

It is only Air Canada offer that mentions this:

          https://www.aircanada.com/au/en/aco/home/aeroplan/credit-car…

And of course Star Alliance has no part to play at all in Air Canadas' offer.

The way I see it is like this:

          1. HSBC make the CC offer for Gold Status once you meet the required spend.

          2. Air Canada tags along the HSBC offer and says if you select us as your airline in Star Alliance preferences (over the other airlines) we will give you 50k bonus points.

So in my view it should really be Air Canada answering the questions for 50k bonus points.

I wonder if anyone that spoke with Air Canada asked the "hard" questions when they were being redirected to HSBC or Star Alliance, like:

          • So you are telling me that HSBC is in charge of Air Canada points allocation?
          • I applied based on an advertising I saw on your web site (Air Canada) why as you trying to direct me to an organization that didn't make any bonus pints promises to me?
          • I am not happy with how your proposed resolution to this issue and I demand to speak with a senior manager or what is your complaints review process as I intend to go through it.
          • etc
            etc
            • @Skux: That's bullshit from Air Canada.

If they don't know what we spend then why did they give us 50K (Star Alliance Gold) status? What in the world made them do that? Just decided to be charitable?

The very fact that we all got 50k status with them shows that we met all the criteria and Air Canada recognized this too by giving us 50k status!!

I am gonna give them a call and play their merry go around game and see :)

                • @Skux: @Skux

I have called Air Canada yesterday on the number you mentioned - +118003615373 which is for Aeroplan members.
After a 2 minute wait I got a very nice person at the other end who was willing to help.

After giving him my Aeroplan number, I started the discussion by mentioning that I have already 50K and I am missing Bonus points.
He asked me about the bonus points and how I did get them. I told him that it is advertised on Air Canada site. He did a search and found the page.
After he told me that he found the page I took the initiative and told him that I already made the required spending and because of that HSBC already informed Star Alliance about it. Star Alliance gave me Gold Status and as I have selected Aeroplan in Star Alliance, they (Star Alliance) informed Air Canada who gave me 50k Aeroplan status.
He was able to follow my logic and didn't even ask again about the spend.

Next he put me on hold to get more information about my Aeroplan status. He came back and he told me that he sees in the system that I have achieved 50k on the 30th of November (my email from them was on the 2nd of December) and that (yesterday Canada Time just before midnight) it is still 30th of November and I should wait a few more days.

My reply to him was that some of my friends (Hello ozbargain friends!!) who applied and got Aeroplan 50K status days/weeks after me, already received the bonus points before me. I told him I did not understand how this could happen and that I was not too happy about it. I also told him that the bonus points should be allocated in 6 to 8 weeks and not 8 weeks to the letter!

Again he put me on hold while he did more investigations and then he came back to tell me that he now sees that the period has expired (must have ticked over midnight in Canada and it was now 1st of FEB so the 8 weeks period expired). He asked me to stay on hold again while he will talk to a manager (I didn't even asked him to speak with a manager).
When he came back he told that his manager agreed that something is not right and they are looking to fix this.
I said that this is great but how long will this process take? He did say to me that since I called and a manager got involved it should not take too long - a few days.

I thanked him and the call ended.

So now I am waiting. Check today - no bonus points yet.

                    • @Skux: Forgot to say - the guy said he did add notes to my digital file (hope he did it).
So if I have to call the second time I will refer whoever answers to that.

If I don't have the points sorted this weekend I am calling back on Monday.

                      • @MnM007: Did your bonus points come in?
