      • thanks for that, worked great, much appreciated

        • No worries!

    • Used this one thanks

  • How powerful is this compared to new announced fire tv 4k max?

    • It's more around the fact that cube has an Ethernet port.. and a USB port through which you can play media..

      • Which can be added to the Max for a few bucks.

The actual advantage is it has an always on Alexa and speaker.

        • +2

"The actual advantage is it has an always on Alexa and speaker."

Certainly an advantage if you want to always be surveilled.

        • And also upscales the HDMI input to 4K

        • Could you please share with details/links to the accessories required for the setup to add storage or to play files from usb drives ?few bucks is how much?
I have Chromecast and firetvsticks both and would like to add/expand storage.
          TIA

          • @koolchamp81: For the Chromecast, you need a USB-C hub with power throughput… Thing is, not all USB-C hubs that have this are compatible with, say, the Chromecast.

This is the one I bought, which is no longer available. It was about $20 AUD - https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B07ZCWQ89L/

Reddit was a good source of USB-C hubs that worked with the Chromecast, but sometimes, Reddit gets it wrong (seems like often, these days).

            Here's an article https://www.androidpolice.com/best-usb-c-hubs-for-google-chr…

Sometimes amazon reviews for hubs will say if it works or not… but you might have to do some reading. I can't find a list with my minimal effort.

            Good luck!

(Oh, and Chromecast doesn't read anything other than FAT32 formatted drives, which means only files less than 4GB, so that's a bit sad… But you can stream bigger files from your computer to it with Jellyfin or something like that).

            • @Droz: Thanks very much for the detailed reply. Will have to research bit more I guess to find out the ones which will be compatible with these devices.

  • What's it's limitations? I.E. can it play Foxtel Go or does it require Kodi like my Vodafone TV Box?

  • Looks like it has one of those insanely large plugs on it - which is annoying because that will fill two slots on most power strips. Just something that irks me with Google and Amazon stuff.

Ethernet and USB port very useful though.

  • Hey guys I need 2 specific things from something like this. I want to play 4k hdr files I’ve downloaded from the internet. And I wouldn’t mind using it as an emulation machine maybe up to ps1. Thanks for any advice anyone might have!

    • Yes to both. Would recommend Kodi for the 4K file playback, I found other players like VLC had occasional audio sync issues with larger files. For emulation, Retroarch can be installed from the app store.

      • Thanks mate. Just purchased one!

      • Looks like the cube only supports fat32 external drives. So that makes it impossible to play 4k hdr files over 4gb unfortunately.

        • This version of the Fire Cube (3rd gen) supports NTFS. I can confirm playback of roughly 20gb 4K HDR files from a 128gb usb drive using Kodi. If you are using an external hdd/ssd I believe it will need to be self powered though.

        • The USB connection supports NTFS formatted drives according to amazon:
          https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/help/customer/display.html?node…

          • @Shitforbrains: That's interesting. Tried 2 different ntfs drives and they didn't work. But the fat32 one did. Said i needed to format the drive to work. Will do some more testing. Thanks for the link!

  • Would this be a good replacement for a MiiBox? Just for using Kodi?

Is it true the USB port it only 2.0? Or am I looking at different info?

  • Seems like all the codes shared here are used. Can someone please PM me voucher code.

    Thanks

  • D'oh ! … just purchased one from amazon and delivered yesterday. Raise enquiry to them, and was provided some refund.

  • I'd also like a code, if anyone would be ok to share?! thanks!

  • Hello all, if anyone could please share a code, that would be much appreciated! my old Xiaomi mibox has finally died and this looks like a good replacement.
Could you please PM me voucher code if youve got a spare one. Many thanks. cheers

  • was thinking of getting one at this price …but… not sure why they limit it to 16GB, USB2 port and 100Mbps ethernet

  • I have a IPTV service that's installed on 4K Firetv Max. The live TV videos are buffering now and then. Do you guys think upgrading to Firetv Cube 4K might fix the buffering issues? I appreciate your response ;)

    • Don’t think it will change much. Unfortunately down here there is lot of buffering for iptv. Most servers overseas and link down here is quite bad. Don’t have fire cube but tried most others. And most buffets. Best option is probably to make changes to buffer time in app. Set it up a bit. Sure takes bit longer to start stream but more stable. Currently don’t have iptv anymore because of this issue. Even when I had FTTP 1000/50 and low ping same issues. Mostly depends of the iptv provider.

      • My colleague suggested connecting the Firetv stick to the ethernet adaptor and see if it helps. If not, I will try buying a dedicated IPTV set-top box. Do you know where can I check for settings in the IPTV Smarters Pro app? I know where to check it in the Stbemu app (Advanced Settings —> change buffer time).

        • +1

Not 100% anymore. Been using nvidia shield pro and other things. Still not 100% and buffering. Best I’ve got it onto using the iPhone. But because of smaller screen than a big 4k tv less buffering.
Correct though using ethernet. Wifi can be bit flakey and slower. If you find where your provider hosts from run a speedtest to that location or country. Then you see the latency. If too high doesn’t matter really if ethernet or what internet speed you have. If not sending enough, no point. I gave up on iptv for that reason. Still waiting for a reliable one. Been on trial on few without good result. Heard some people having success but haven’t dug deeper into it. Good luck

  • For those that have this Fire TV Cube. Do you have the issue where the app library button on the home page does not appear? Has anyone been able to resolve this? Apparently it is a big of some sort.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

    TIA.

    • You can long press the Home button on the remote, or short press the Settings button on the remote. This will bring up a menu with a shortcut to your app library.

      • Thanks mate. Helps alleviate the situation.

        Cheers!

  • Low powered USB fyi

i returned mine for a $80 Android media player and now have youtube without ads free plus usb 3 slots = winning

    Using VLC too

    • I'm having problems with my Fire TV Cube too with the USB port. It's not properly powering up my portable hard drives. It mustn't have enough power current to do it. I'm going to connect it to a powered USB 3 hub to see how it does.

The USB port must have been only made to power a flash drive.

Edit: Used the powered USB hub and it's working fine now. I can use any portable hard drive. I had to use VLC for Fire TV because the built in media player won't play Atmos audio.

      • i bought a double usb connector on amazon for 6 bucks, it gave it more power and worked

        • +1

Nice. I already had the USB powered hub laying around.

  • Also looking for code, if anyone has got one please pm me

  • Ill take a code too if anyohas.one left?

  • For those who missed out and still wanting to buy this, Amazon currently has this 50% off for Prime members as per this deal:
