  • Will they release a new version of the cube like the 4k and 4k max or is it still too new

    • +1

There's green banner stated that:"This is the latest model of this product."
I'm not sure if it is really the latest model.

      • Yes but a new version of the 4k max was just released and the cube hasn't been updated for almost a year.

        • yeah, it keeps us uncertain

Don’t forget 7% Cashback for amazon device

Prolly wait 8 days for prime day deals (which will have the same price if not cheaper) and stack with some bonus cashback offers.

  • I find this expensive even at $109

Is this any good for watching IPTV services, better than Firetv 4K Max?.

  • Is the wifi signal better than the 4K max? The wifi in the 4K max has very short range.

    • Possibly. The firestick behind the tv would most likely lose some signal due to the tv

    • Probably similar but this does have an ethernet port so you can do away with wifi.

Tempting, but I hate the idea of having those spyware in my home, alexia, google home etc. Any guaranteed way to turn it off?

    • +6

Yeah, unplug it from the wall

Do you use a smartphone? If concerns about your privacy weigh on you, the initial step would be to stop using a smartphone. :)

    Does this support DTS audio?

    • It does support DTS and DTS hd formats only through Kodi. I use one with Kodi and a Plex add on for Kodi and DTS formats are passed as expected to a Samsung sound bar Q990b. Cheers

  • Anyone knows how well Disney plus plays on this? I've always had movies play dark on Firestick or any other Android based device.

    • Check whether it’s being set to HDR or not, and adjust tv settings to suit the stick

  • Youtube music and youtube app available?

I prefer the cube compared to the fire stick max. The cube supports atmos sound and it’s handy having the Alexa built into it to turn on the tv and off.

I have tried paring the fire stick to an echo but it’s not the best the two are supposed to work together like the cube does but the result is bad

I would have bought this or waited till Black Friday sales coming up but I already have fire sticks and they work ok

  • Do these have more storage than the 4k max? My 4k is full with only a few other apps installed.

    • Nope. It has the same 16GB of storage.

  • Good device but both of the ones I have got some faults in it. One with no light on the silent button and wont power on/off via remote. Other one seems to decide not to recognize the voice input properly. Otherwise a decent device vs shield.

  • Can anyone share the Kodi experience with it? I'm currently using the fire stick 4k, which can't play some large movie files (30G for a 2-hour movie). I've tested with my computer, and the computer can play the large files, so it's not network issue. Does the cude have a better capability in this scenario?

    • Yep. The cube has similar processing power to the shield. I don't use kodi much anymore(mainly use plex and stremio now) but when I had in the past it's been fine.

Got one of these from JB hifi for this price. Got it for 2 reasons. Wanted to play big 4k hdr video files locally and wanted to use it as an emulation machine. Playing files didn't work perfectly, could only use the built in media player on certain files to get dolby atmos. And then it just didn't work great all the time. As for emulation most things worked well but there was lag in the sound. Apparently it's a common thing with the fire devices. As a streaming media player though it worked great! Just wanted to put my experience out there.

    • The only problem i've had with my Fire TV Cube is on my TV i had to set the Fire TV to 2160p 50Hz resolution in the settings because at 60Hz i kept getting random and brief screen flickering. At 50Hz it works perfectly. But i only use 2ch sound out as i've only got a stereo soundbar for audio.
