Original Coupon Deal

First posting on ozb - I've been looking for a great deal on this unit to replace my aging 4k LCD 32" monitor so picked one up myself.

With the $300 off, I'm pretty sure it's the lowest price it's ever been.

It is refurbished stock but it says it's brand new with damaged box from Sony Australia.

I wonder if it would make a good PC monitor

    • +4

ABL and burn-in would be my biggest concerns. The WOLED pixel layout is probably acceptable unless you look closely.

      • +11

It will be fine. I've got an LG OLED B6 with 10000 hours on it, 3000 hours were with destiny 2 with full hud, played numerous games with full HUD and still no burn in.

I've also got a 42inch LG OLED for my PC from last year and that one's going fine. That being said, I do run dark mode windows, black screen for a screen saver and auto hide start menu. The OLED panels are usually fine if you run them reasonably. People complain that peak brightness isn't as good as quantum dot but I find for gaming that anything over 600 nits is excessive for HDR gaming in my household so I usually set that as my HDR max.

That's a lot of hours! I have burn-in on my LG C7 so was a little concerned. I wonder if they'll reach the point where they can be used like a normal LCD monitor with no burn-in concerns.

        • +2

Note that while what you said is true of most OLEDs, the newest generation of quantum dot QD-OLEDs without a white pixel have much more severe burn-in that can happen in a matter of weeks or months. https://www.rtings.com/tv/learn/longevity-investigations-upd…

People complain that peak brightness isn't as good as quantum dot

The obsession with screen brightness is bonkers for in-home use - unless the sun is literally shining right on your TV, then every set is more than bright enough 🤷🏼‍♂️

Who are these people who want eye-searing brightness ??

          • @Nom: I too don't like excessive brightness. Monitors are supposed to be calibrated. If you create or edit images with the brightness cranked up, for instance, they will be too dark for people with calibrated monitors.

At 4am in the morning, I can clearly see the illumination from the TV set of the neighbors across the street and 5 houses down.

          • +1

@Nom: People who want it are being duped by marketing.

            • @Ahbal: Don't forget that not everyone has perfect eyesight. My dad is getting older and his eyesight isn't as good as it used to be so he needs more light to see. What's bright to you might be just right for someone in his situation.

              Also HDR is a thing.

              • +1

@eug: You dad will know you love him if you buy him an 83" LG OLED. Think of the money saved on getting new glasses as eyesight deteriorates, everything will be bigger including subtitles. As a 73yo that's my response when people ask why I need such a big TV.

          • @Nom: Unsure. I always turn it down.

      • +4

Got over 1000 hours on my LGC242 which I use for WFH and gaming. no burn in so far

      • +2

Burn in not an issue. Auto brightness limiter. Biggest issue. Bright white scenes become light grey. Word documents look bad. Movies and tv shows suck too with bright white scenes

      • I have 1000 hours of rocket league on my Lg B8 no issues except for stupid hdmi sync issues with my nintendo switch.

    • I'd imagine it would be amazing.

  • Monitor? whats the refresh rate/delay?

!!Box Damaged !! Stop using that freight company Sony .

    • +2

Sybok is that you in there…?

    • +1

Exactly, these use StarTrack to deliver TV's. No end of problems with Sony eBay. Do not recommend

      • +2

My Sony arrived the other day via dhl

        • +4

Well hopefully they have learnt. I had one off eBay due after four weeks. Took 6 months, two replacement units arrive with smashed screens before I got a refund. 6 months later they tried to ask me to pay for the returned unit as they had no tracking of it being returned? Useless.

  • +1

    Pity there's no 1440@120

If I game at 1440 though I guess it will still look good at 4k@120 and let the TV upscale

Can anybody verify this looks OK?

    • +3

Depending on the game and GPU, probably easier to just use FSR or DLSS to upscale it for you. Likely less input lag that way.

      • +1

That's usually what I do. I have my 6900xt running FSR to scale games up to 4k to nail the 120hz. Most games nowadays have FSR or DLSS and some of the others will let you manually set render resolution.

And even without them, TV's tend to have their own upscaling algorithms that are decent, but not as good as FSR or DLSS.

    • +2

DLSS to 4k. Same performance as native 1440p.

  • Damn need a 65" for this model ❤️

  • If using as PC monitor.. I wonder how bad the burn in would be after a year.

    • +1

Not as much as people make it out to be, LG C2 owner here. Have had it running my gaming PC non stop and it's now at 4300 hours with 0 burn in, and I don't even hide my taskbar, icons or even have screen savers on.

Purchased July 2022, so it's been over a year.

Even turned off the auto dimming via the service remote.

      • +1

What about vesa mounting onto a monitor stan

        • Yep have it on a brateck arm brought from centrecom using a vesa wall adapter. Even though the base is better on the C2 42 for desk use compared to when I had the CX and C1 48" they would take at least 20 cm depth from my desk which is 80 cm deep.

Using the arm I can push it all the way back close to the wall so that's like 70-75cm depth recovered. But VESA arm is highly recommended as the TV sits very low.

          • @thesmartone1125: The TV is surprisingly light, I think it was lighter than my 38" Alienware so most sturdy arms work, you don't need like an ergotron expensive arm.

          • @thesmartone1125: Dang! Do you just buy a new TV every year for your desk setup? I’m jealous if so

            • @corgi-runner: I like to try stuff a lot, and lurking on oz bargain doesn't help at all. The C1 and CX I only used them for half a year each, the C2 is probably the only monitor/ TV I have kept this long and I don't intend to replace it with the C3 either. Maybe the C4 if it's heaps better.

      • No one expects burn in at 4000hrs anyway, all panels will eventually get it, it's just a matter of time

        • Well my response was to how it held up after a year, and I know burn in is def an issue with OLED panels but people make it out to be like in a few months they'll have permanent burn in.

At my 1 year use case as a PC monitor, it averaged about 10+ hrs every day (roughly). So yeah I'd say over a year it held up well, will update next year when it reaches 8000+ hours. I know it's not a matter of if but when will the burn in kick in.

  • +1

Burn in is a non-starter. I've used a 42 inch C2 for a year. Worrying about nothing IMO

  • +3
    • That's getting tempting, looking to upgrade my 42 inch monitor (non-oled). Was planning to wall mount a C2 48inch but missed the deal 6 months or so back (under $1500 if I recall). With wall mount, gain another 15cms depth from my current use case. Outside of using it as a desktop monitor, also use it for gaming and movies etc, but sit farther away on a sofa and have a mounting arm that lets me bring it forward.

    • Thanks. I wanted to upsize a little and the 42 is out of stock now anyway.

  • Interested in this as a replacement for my old 27" monitor. I use a lot of large spreadsheets with work and WFH 1-2 days a week. It would be used almost exclusively for work, can I claim this back 100% at tax time?

    • Looking online at this I can see that i can treat it as a monitor which will depreciate over 4 years and so get 50% back in the the first 12 months and then 25%back from 13 to 24 months and the same for 25 to 36 months. Not bad but not sure if this applies when only wfh for 2 days a week?

      • The depreciation values you mentioned get reduced personal use % if you do it correctly. But you can say 80% work / 20% personal if you can justify the hours etc.

  • Sony: smashing boxes to dodge warranty claims since 1995

    • +1

There are some pretty well substantiated theories that this "box damaged" tactic is to offload brand new, excess stock at significantly discounted prices without getting in trouble with their retailers. The vast majority of recipients receive a TV and a box that is perfect.

      • +2

mine wasn't perfect, had a couple holes in it. I didn't take my chances, refused delivery and took a few weeks to get money back

      • +4

That is just a rumour that has spread around internet forums (possibly Whirlpool). If Sony were damaging the boxes, there wouldn't be so many reports of damaged TV's. These are simply damaged in transit by careless courier drivers and the customer has refused delivery. They get sent back to the warehouse and on-sold as T1 (box damage) or T2 (refurb) stock. Even though they mark them as T1 stock, they don't know for sure because they don't open the box and inspect the TV. How do I know all this? I used to work for Hisense. I have literally seen shoe prints on smashed TV panels. They simply don't give a fcuk. Hisense use QLS but I don't know about Sony. It's pot luck really.

    • +1

I thought there is still warranty on this

      • Yeah would like someone to confirm this…

  • Anyone have any experience with Master Buy in Melbourne? They have a few decent 'Factory Seconds' TVs but they have a bit of a vibe that makes me uneasy.

    • yum

    • Its the same panel as their OLED TVs

    • +1

seems decent would totally buy if they take 0 off

They will definitely accept your offer of $1,799.0.

  • +1

How good is it compare to LG C2 42?
    Thanks

  • This item is out of stock.

  • I've currently been waiting since June for Sony to replace my A80K that failed after 2 weeks use. One of the worst warranty experiences I've had and wrecked my back having to package a 77" myself to return.

Something like this still tempts me for the home office though. Dont think I'll ever buy new sony products again.

  • Looks like it's back in stock again. How many damaged boxes do they have?!

  • Have seen some pretty bad customer feedback on eBay due to damaged item and being a pain to return. As much as I am tempted to get them, I also feel much better if I can go to a retailer knowing I can deal with them directly and likely much quicker for any issues.

  • +6

So the TV just got delivered and upon close inspection. There is not a single dent/scratch/mark on it. No signs of it being opened up either.

  • Where does it say these are refurbished?

  • Is this better or worse than C2?

  • +1

I ended up getting the last A95K “damaged box” on the 17th for $3695 delivered after coupon. Delivered today and there was literally no damaged at all to the box whatsoever. TV was brand new and definitely not a refurb as nowhere on the listing does it state it’s refurbished. Perhaps the code should not have worked on these, but I ain’t complaining. Thank you OP!

EDIT: Looks like 3 of these are back in stock too. Not sure if the coupon code still works but keep an eye out!

    • Thanks. What's diff between the 90 and 95?

      • +1

If I am not mistaken the 95’s are QD-OLED, the 90’s are OLED and I think some are even just regular LCD depends which exact model

Edit: it really depends on the model the X95 is mini LED so yeah Sony makin it a wee confusing
