On sale is this new camera from Imou (Dahua) that's designed to fit into an E26/E27 socket, while still being able to provide light. While E27 socket security cameras aren't new they have poor image quality, poor app control and no lights, which is not the case with this one. As a quick price comparison it sells for ~US$74 full price from Imou.

Featuring a 5MP sensor with 2880x1620 resolution, 2.8mm fixed lens, 340° pan, 90° tilt, IR & full colour night vision, AI human & vehicle motion detection, inbuilt 350lm light bulb, 8x digital zoom, inbuilt mic & speaker for two-way audio, custom sound alarm, privacy mode and WiFi connectivity.

For recording the camera has a microSD slot, RTSP/ONVIF/NVR support including Imou/Dahua/Blue Iris, Imou Cloud and playback through the Imou app.

AU$ based on current Mastercard rate, GST inclusive and stacks with cashback.

Can you focus on retro game controllers?

    • +2

Name what you want and I'll see what I can find.

      • If you're taking requests, I'm in the market for one of those four NIC mini PCs to use as a router.

        • +1

Until more AliExpress coupons are released I'm relying on the SuperDeals. I haven't seen any of those show up lately :(

          • @Clear: That's a shame; hopefully more come up soon.

  • Are these waterproof/weatherproof? (Maybe not since you expose the e27 socket…)

What wifi frequency do they use? (2.4ghz or both 2.4ghz and 5ghz)

Could be well worth it depending on the above.

    • +3

Certainly not completely given the E27 socket. They're 2.4GHz and in my experience with Imou I've never had issues connecting them to my 2.4/5GHz mixed mesh WiFi network.

  • While it’s super cheap, is anyone able to find review, just wanting to see both daytime and nighttime footage quality

    • Literally just released globally. It's been out in China for a few weeks.

      • So a few weeks should at least have some images available lol

        • Looks like some Vietnam users have them. This video has a bit of footage. Obviously it's compressed alot but seems to show the night vision in a dim room.

  • Seems like a good concept, until the criminal unscrews your camera and walks away with it D:

The idea is to have it up high.

      • Most light sockets aren’t though.. so in most instances you’d have to install a socket specifically for it. And if you’re willing to do that might as well run dedicated power/Cat Poe cable… but each to their own I suppose.

        • +1

In my experience outdoor sockets haven't been. Depends on the house I suppose.

@Clear: Might give this a crack cos I have light bulb high up in my carport. Might be a bayonet bulb fitting but can get those B to E adapters cheap so should be ok ..

            • +1

@adrianhughes1998: Grabbed one for that exact situation. Was just saying to the wife this morning I need a smart bulb in the garage because it keeps being left on, now I get a camera in there as well!

              • @Gillen: That's exactly it mate, just ordered it now haha. At 100 bucks I would be a bit hesitant but for 60 bucks it's decent if it doesn't exactly work out

  • Any bayonet equivalent?

    • Sadly no.

  • +2

Seems like a great idea. Also these things exist https://amzn.asia/d/419D05F to get better angles if your light fixture is mounted on a wall and is in a tight spot like mine is.

  • @Clear how does one go about setting up a NVR from scratch though. Guessing would have to fork out for the hardware it's not something you can do thru an app is it

    • +1

Easiest way out of the box is with an NVR or if you have a NAS. Otherwise there's free software like Shinobi, Frigate and Blue Iris where you can turn a PC into an NVR.

    • +1

Looks like Imou have a wireless NVR. Hopefully some coupons come out sometime to drop it further.

      • Thanks mate yeah it only has VGA and some USB output so not the best for monitor connectivity. SATA slow but whatever it's cheap for storage..

        • +1

the pic in that listing shows an HDMI port

          • @spaij: My bad. That might do the trick then, for beginner to NVR I'm guessing you just need to go about and grab a cheap SATA HDD for storage then

  • +1

Bought this and video quality is pretty decent. Works very fast and notifications take maybe seven or eight seconds to come thru. Not bad.
