[Seconds, NSW] Sunman 430W Flexible Solar Panels (with Visual Defects, 3-Year Warranty) $379 NSW Pickup @ Muller Energy

100

๐Ÿ”‹Another niche deal from Muller Energy!๐Ÿ˜‰

We've got a pallet of 430W flexible Sunman โ˜€๏ธ solar ๐ŸŒž panels with visual defects to sell at a very low price of $379. Sunman panels are in my (possibly not entirely objective) opinion by far the best flexible panels on the market! These ones have slight defects in the top layer that can be seen in our pictures, but it does not impact their performance nor make them any less waterproof or weather resistant. They also come with a 3 year warranty.

These solar panels usually retail for close to twice as much on other websites, so if you don't mind a few small scratches, you can get decent savings here!

Pickup from Sydney and the Central Coast available.
Shipping for 6 or more is available (these have to be shipped on a pallet, exempt from free shipping, sorry).

  • Just 3 years of warranty?

Aren't they supposed to come with 12 years of product warranty?

    • Other sites have this with 5yr warranty

Should this be the deciding factor, we can have a look at offering the extra two years.

To be completely honest with you, yes, that's the stated warranty from China, but being able to get Chinese warranties honoured is really a mixed bag!
This is the Australian warranty by Muller Energy. After that, we're still happy to try and support you in claiming the Chinese warranty, but can't make any promises to the outcome.

  • How do you know the performance isn't affected? On what basis can warranty be claimed- does the panel have to be completely dead ?

    • +1

They were tested against other well-known brand panels (non-flexible) that have CEC accreditation and the output, per rated Watt, was very similar.
If you can show that the performance is less than it should be (I'll have to look at the degradation factor on these, but 0.6% per year is a common figure). Obviously though, this does not mean that if it produces less than 420W it's faulty, given that this is the maximum output based on 1000W/m2.
So you would have to do a comparative test with a CEC-accredited panel would for example (obviously a lab test would be fine too, but I wouldn't expect that).

    Sunman HAS no visual defects

    • I'll promptly revise the listing to say that Sunman is perfect in every possible way! ๐Ÿ˜

  • Those really are BIG!

    • They are, that's true!
      Just over 1m by 2m.

  • Would brasso brass polish remove those scratches

    • Unfortunately not, no.
The top sheet is not flat. It has little dimples that are there to minimise any reflection away from the panel and makes sure that sunlight is instead refacted into the panel.
So if you used an abrasive on this, it would likely make things worse in terms of letting the light in, so I wouldn't advise it. Plus very vigerous polishing could even wear through the waterproof membrane, which obviously wouldn't be good.

  • I'm intrigued by this product.

I'm having trouble imagining a use for flexible solar panel this big. You don't need a flexible solar panel on your roof. What do you do with it?

I wonder how you fasten it in place. It can't be put on a tile roof. Or a corrugated iron roof.

And I can't think of anything you could do with them that would require at least 6 - the minimum shippable quantity - of them.

    • Our primary customers are caravan and campervan owners that put them on the roof. A single panel can get up to 2kWh per day (in fairly ideal conditions) which is quite a lot for a vehicle.
The larger orders are usually more for auto electricians and the like. As I said, it's a fairly niche product, but it's still getting a nice amount of interest on here. ๐Ÿ™‚

Overseas, these are actually installed on properties as well with the benefit that they're nearly 30kg lighter than an equivalent glass panel. But in Australia I haven't seen this yet. You'd still build an aluminium frame, like with conventional panels.

      • Exactly this, i was thinking of modding one for the roof of my car

  • Seems expensive for something that doesn't have a good reputation

    • It's true, it is more expensive than many other flexible solar panels, but most other flexible solar panels have a much lower output, so if you look on a $/W basis, these are the best priced flexible panels on the market (you'll find some panels with fake ratings that are supposedly cheaper).

Sunman has an excellent reputation in the industry, but as I stated before it's a very niche product, so I understand that it's not for most people.

  • I have seen people who have those flexible panels complaining about the waterproof issue for those panels.
A better warranty needed if anyone is buying it.

    • Could you please provide a link to any waterproofing issues on Sunman panels?

  • Any one in tassie after these? I would love to get my hands on 2 if any one keen to split a pallet.

  • Can these be walked on like some of the other flexible panels? Or is that just something all flexible panels are capable of?

    • As long as they're fully supported, they can be.

  • Can these be mounted on a curved wall without brackets.

I have a side of the house that gets direct sunlight for more than 6 hrs a day in winter and about 8 to 10 hrs in summer.

Thinking to install horizontally 4 panels, enclose them in a stainless steel frame and connect to a cheap battery and use to charge an EV.

Do you think they would look nice as a fascade.

Another alternative is mounting them to my back fence as i get sun all day there

    • Sorry, I just saw this.
It sounds like you could do this. We also sell special silicone adhesive (free for Ozbargainers), so this may or may not be an option for you.
