PETZL Tikka XP 2 Headlamp $49.99 + $9 Delivery

20

After some particularly impressive ozbargains were had last week I have finally decided to crawl out of the lurkers cave and join in on the frugality fest with you all, fellow thriftseekers! Hopefully I too can save you all some cash sometime, as you have so often done for me! :-)

OK – so deal is for the PETZL Tikka XP2 (2012 specs) the cheapest advertised price I've seen for this model from an Australian based retailer at $49.99 + $9 delivery. Downunder Pilot Shop should beat this base price by a few $ if you drop them an email (and their shipping cost is a couple of $ cheaper as well at $7). All in all a good price for those of us who prefer to avoid ebay/amazon and purchase locally.

For anyone interested, there are a few other cheaper Tikka models on sale right now on the T7 website as well.

    80 lumens?!
$60 is hardly frugal when there are more powerful options on ebay for less than $10.
For $50 you can get a Cree XM-L headlamp with 4x18650 Li-Ion battery back and charger. Will leave this for dead.
Petzl, like Maglite, was the bees knees back in the day, but that is history.

    • never claimed that this is the best deal for the specs or the best torch out there, but it is quite a decent deal for this make, and this model. bargains are subjective afterall. personally, i am happy to purchase this torch at this price and maybe some other user may also find it a good buy when the xp2 typically retails for $75-$100 in oz. and as stated in the original post, this is an australian deal, for a PETZL, and for those of us that do not wish to purchase from ebay/amazon.

Quite right. I'm not meaning to contradict you, just adding some info and opinion which I hope might also be useful to someone.

Can you post a link to said Cree headlamp for comparison? Brightness is not the only consideration - there are times when it's not necessary (or desirable) to turn night into day!

Specifically regarding the petzl in question - I was advised by my brother (who works in an outdoor store) that they aren't all they're cracked up to be for the money. I got a black diamond storm which suits my needs - can spotlight (100 lumines over 70 meters), provide a dimmer light setting and misc other useless functions I don't use, plus it is storm-proof. Built quality is excellent, and for me, I specifically didn't want something rechargeable - I have so many random chargers about and a pain in the ar$e when the battery goes flat and you can't simply replace it. I can use standard AAA rechargables, or regular disposables in an emergency.
It takes 4 AAA's compared to the petzl which takes 3 so will be slightly heavier - but I think this is marginal.

Also available on torpedo7, and at $44.99 (plus postage) is cheaper than the petzl, and may be the better buy: http://www.torpedo7.com.au/products/BDLIANNSH/title/black-di…

  • These are a fantastic hikers headlamp (extremely light, i have the older version that weighs in at 59g) which is what they are aimed at. They provide a decent spread beam of light, which is more then needed.

    +1 from me.
