Cheers mate!
Thanks! Updated the description
Got a Braun airfryer for $50 bargain
Me too!
Already have a big one, just needed a smaller one for smaller items. Better fit the electrical bill?
I saw it, but personally went with the Braun because its a reputable brand and I felt that one larger drawer for our family of 4 would be better than two small drawers. Pretty snap decision.
Seems interesting, which one you are going for? Can it be considered upgrade from Kmart one?
Thanks for reminding me I needed a second one of these!
Even with 40% I can see why they went out of business. Greedy fat cats.
agree .. hardly any real discounts
Love to know which particular execs were responsible for buying this $230 million (aka getting stitched up with) lemon from the Leibovich brothers, and for Catch's subsequent tens of millions of dollars in losses….it was almost a bad a purchase as when they bought the UK's Homebase DIY chain for £340 million and later sold it for £1. https://www.bbc.com/news/business-44248409.
Or Dick Smith who went broke after floating.
Woolworths - Masters Hardware debacle
Westfarmers never owned Dick Smith
@BargainHunter9876543: Pretty sure you are correct. Woolies did buy Dick Smith, but ultimately over time they starting taking the slower moving, less margin, electronic hobby products out, and made it just a big brand electrical store. The first step was closing a bunch of stores. Wikipedia might have the full story or I am sure someone documented their downfall. Such a shame to kill a well respected brand.
Woolies tried to offload it for a long time.
At that point it was bleeding money, as Woolies continue to remove products.
I think Woolies sold it to private equity who slim lined the product lines even more and that’s what finally killed it, Kogan bought the name only and the name is now trash because Kogan owns it and sells the same cheap rubbish he has in his other stores.
@dman1: Hey, just thought I'd add my 2 cents to your pretty good summary.
But just wanted to say that I'm pretty sure after woolworths bought Dick Smith, the number of stores went UP significantly, rather than down. They certainly opened lots of new stalls in suburban shopping centres at a fairly rapid pace around South East Queensland and Northern NSW. I was doing occasional work for woolworths, bigw and dick smith back in the day.
They put more emphasis on computers, home security,TV's, gaming, phones etc. Like a mini JB Hifi but still keeping a bit of the Jaycar vibe. As well as offering installation and limited tech support services. In my experience, the more regional the store, the bigger the range of specialist electronics items they still stocked.
After that had been going on for a bit, Big W was also expanding it's big brand electrical stuff. Big walls of TV's, dvd players, camera's and phones. One of the reasons that the Woolworths group gave for selling off Dick Smith was that they were competing with themselves. Not sure how much that really came into it, but at ground level I was certainly aware of staff of both stores getting fed up with customers price-matching between the two. They would have to call each other up to confirm prices etc. They would plan big sales of specific products in an uncoordinated way, but in some other ways were being treated like they worked for the same group.
When woolworths did a big restructure, they closed some of the Dick Smith stores (and I think all of the Tandy branded ones also) and sold it to the Anchorage Capital Group. Who, at the time had recently bought the Australian Golden Circle and then quickly flipped it to the American company Heinz. Anchorage definitely did lots of dodgy stuff that is above my level of understanding. But, there was senate inquiries, court cases, and the like and they allegedly did a really impressive job of fleecing the existing business, the stock holders and even the banks - some of which was "legal" and some that definitely wasn't. They definitely had to repay one of the banks a fair whack, but they got away with most of it.
They went into administration and couldn't find a buyer. They went into liquidation and Kogan bought the license for the name to trade as an online business only.
Sometimes, to become a millionaire you need to have a billion and waste the majority of it.
…of other people's money!
Coles group wanted an established online brand and presence. Kinda makes sense until you take a close look at the turd for sale
Picked up a few things i needed -
Braun TexStyle 5 Steam Iron: https://www.catch.com.au/product/braun-texstyle-5-steam-iron…
Mikasa 12-Piece Egret Dinner Set: https://www.catch.com.au/product/mikasa-12-piece-egret-dinne…
OXO Good Grips Compact Toilet Brush & Cannister Set - White: https://www.catch.com.au/product/oxo-good-grips-compact-toil…Got a few OXO stuff but seems like they aren't included in the 40% anymore.
Are you sure you really needed or wanted them?
surprisingly mostly a need in this case as I'm moving, however probably didn't need so many brand named products i'll admit.
Nothing you can't get at Kmart
im so sad they dont sell mens briefs ;'(
Probably just briefly.
Remember SALE10 for another $10 off.
one time use/account.
Thanks, got this as well as the NutriBullet
Guess I’ll return the NutriBullet when it arrivesplastic jar…
the OMO ultimate sensitve @19.00 not too bad but when 40% applied it comes down to $11.40 per bottle - SMKTS cant even get it that low (unless purchasing higher capacities when on special)
I guess they having more liquidation sale soon
I think your guess is valid. Frozen for now waiting for final sale
Currently in need of some garden tools for a relatively small yard.
Anyone know if Black and Decker are worth it at this pricepoint?
The Trimmer is ~$91.40 w codeThat’s a good price, I paid $125 2 years ago … still going strong.
Bought one ( or basically the same) about a year ago, was not expecting much however works great. Much better than I expected. Plenty of power and cuts well.
how long does the battery last on a full charge ?
I can run it and complete my residential block, nature strip, front yard ad around the back in one charge easy. I do the edges about every 3 weeks so it’s not out of control. Guess it lasts about about 40 minutes or so , maybe 30. It never really runs out of juice as I get stuck into the edges and then put it back on charge. As I said I was surprised how good it is..
black and decker are to me such good products…
i ll wait for last week of their close down - sure they ll have some stuff to get rid off!
Come on, 40% all Nintendo please
Wishful thinking is Pokemon TCG. Current toys selection in 40% is lackluster.
I guess they are just clearing out all the junk here, and all the good stock will be transferred to Kmart.
Yeah checked this also
The fire sale begins sure to be lower in coming weeks for what stock will be left.
yep, catch is closing shop
There's no guarantee that Wesfarmers won't transfer inventory to other subsidiaries.
Nope. They are transferring warehouses to Kmart. So Catch will be selling out everything possible to empty out the warehouses.
Though unless KMart's current warehouses are at breaking point, couldn't they still transfer inventory to KMart?
@y2k: Yes Kmart has been looking for a warehouse for sometime to improve online delivery performance.
Source : I work for Wesfarmers
ROFL I almost bought some bargain “Sheraton” sheets.
Have made this mistake with towels from Spotlight - do not recommend!
Thanks OP, stocked up on another $6 pair of havaianas
Bargain on NexGard Spectra $48.94 after discounts for 6 pack.
only for dogs under 15 KG though, but good price indeed.
I did this too but just one year (2 packs) as don't recall shelf life for these.
Bought 2 packs too for that reason. The pack I have at home that I got from Pet Circle has an expiry of March 2026 and I assumed that it will be around this expiry.
Edit: Just realised the listing shows the expiry date.
Not sure which ones you bought, but the product description shows the expiry
e.g. 3.6-7.5kg - Expiry Date: 30/11/2025
Yup just got 4 packs
Yep, just scored some for my daughter's little guy. He's set for the next year now.
damn it. maybe they removed the 40% for medium? can you link me the one you found please!
Still there. Just click on the 40% sale banner and it will be in the first page.
The discount Is applied at checkout.
Any hints on how to get this one? When I add it to cart and check out it's still showing as full price
It is now showing the discounted price before cart. $57 is the discounted price.
Maybe staff have started to leave because my sim card has yet to depart from 2 days ago.
Apparently (!) Catch Connect is run separately and will continue to operate…
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/890732After 2 days I would definitely file a complaint with ACC.
I waited for almost 1 week and it still says waiting dispatch. Suddenly it arrives without any update from catch. Their order system is crap.
I've ordered 3 sims from catch connect at separate times over the last 2 years.
The only time, that it arrived within 2 weeks, was the same time that they emailed me to say it would be dispatched shortly - about 2 weeks after I had already received it!
It's unlikely to be quick and even less likely that what information they give you about it's status will be accurate.
Pyrolux Pyrotherm food warmers are great and a good price
Damn was too quick and didn’t apply code :(
Still got some great bargainsHaha same. Guess we’ll just have to go and put another order through to make use of it. 🤣
lol just did twice more! Husband got me Marc Jacob’s bag for valentines. Managed to use code then. I then bought some other things but now code doesn’t work anymore (I think max 3 times)
thinking about old days when catch use to sale 1 item a day, changing item at mid day everyday.
almost everyone at my office use to log on to catchofthedayhow far e commerce has come down to…….
Remember Zazz?
No
yes, I do remember… zazz use to come up with mostly so called gadget every midnight.
now kogan owns that domain.
NZFMT! Brings back memories
NZFMT!
Unfamiliar with this.
I remember being excited at midnight to see what the day's bargain was gonna be.
The Zazz forums were quite… interesting…. to say the least.
I have a couple of portable 500gb hardrives from Zazz, still going strong.
Some good bargains here! Cheers OP
Got the NutriBullet Pro+ 1200W for $97 delivered. Pretty good! Thanks OP
I have this one and I swear it's less powerful than my old 900W and sounds way worse. YMMV.
I'm upgrading from a Kmart blender, so it should be an improvement 😅
Sounds worse bc it's more potent?
You’ll love it. Much better build quality than the 900w
Got some Omo Ultimate Senstive 2L for $11.40 each
