Get rekt all other car manufacturers 😂

  • -3

Good to see Tesla reacting to market pressure, but after seeing Elon in action you'd still be a fool to buy a Tesla.

    • +5

Market pressure? Telsa sells the most popular EV in the world, and they make more profit per car sold than any other car manufacturer.

If anything, this "market pressure" is going to ensure that Tesla continues to comfortably maintain their front-runner status or force every other manufacturer to sell their competing EVs at a loss.

      • -2

Sorry, but BYD overtook Tesla already and its beating Tesla easily in its home Chinese market (which is >60% of global total). Its Tesla that is trying to win market share by selling at much lower margins hoping to compete.

  • fk me, just picked up mine 2 weeks ago

  • +3

Recently test drove a Tesla and decided I'm not yet ready to leave internal combustion engines (electric cars feel numb?). Great to see a price drop for those who like them though.

    • +1

'numb' .. wow, you call whisper quiet and smooth being numb? wtf .. that is just psychological.

      • +4

He's right. EVs simply dont offer the same driving experience. Sure if you want a quieter transit from A to B, it will do its job, but is it an exhilarating, no.

        • +6

huh? .. you have a similar psychological issue misaligned with your expectations of performance being associated with vibrating and noisy and loud ICE.

exhilarating … i guess a loud and noisy V8 without an exhaust is kinda cool .. i dunno .. it is also super annoying times too.

but yea, the Model 3 Performance at 0-100kmh at 3.3 seconds is pretty exhilarating .. and faster than your car!

          • +2

@matt-ozb: EVs are great in a straight line, but when you have to turn you feel their weight (and often the underwhelming brakes) quite significantly. A slightly slower, but still quick, 0-100 time paired with significantly better handling and chassis setup is a better driving package in my opinion. Not to mention Tesla build quality is poor compared to a reputable German product. Sound of 6 or 8 cylinders is great too :)

            • +1

@niknikniknik: Lap times are faster in Model 3 Performance compared to BMW M3.

              https://fastestlaps.com/comparisons/jus5k2gl47mj

Model 3 is 250kg heavier than BMW 3 series .. not that much heavier.

Not quite sure what your comments are based on. Just your impression from comparing at a race track?

              I

              • @matt-ozb: If you were to look at the laps telematics. Most of the time is made up of fast accel, rather than fast cornering speed and side G forces.

I'd take the M3 any day than the body roll and pitch of a Model 3 Performance. I also recall they did have to change suspension and some bits to get it to handle for the track for the model 3.

BTW. E92 m3 is a really old car, i had one and it was fantastic handling, but much slower than my modded 335i of the same era.

Maybe compare a car of the same era to actually be valid

          • +3

@matt-ozb: And I think you're misinterpreting what people talk about when comparing "performance" with ICE / EV's.
Sure EV's are stupid quick and have instant torque. But I'd rather fang an old (slower) Porsche, MX-5 / GT86 through the hills than do it in a EV.
Shifting gears, getting on the revs, the sound, knowing the powerband, it's all different in an ICE.

            • +2

@Maz78: Agreed. A manual Porsche is slower around a track than its automatic equivalent but the driving experience is more enjoyable. There is more to driving than just achieving 'stats' like low 0-100 times. An EV is an economical option that detaches you from a traditional driving experience (no noise etc), and as such does not offer the sam enjoyable experience that ICE does. It suffices for point A to B economical travel with the odd straight line lurch from stand still.

        • +2

People don't buy EVs for exhilarating experience and I'm taking your comment is based on the sound from a combustible engine and the feeling you get from the initial launch.
Mind you that is not what exhilarating is. An EV will whoop any petrol car any day. The launch on EVs are pretty much instantaneous. It won't make you feel like you're in a race car but it'll give you the speed and push no ordinary petrol car can give.
Your neg on the deal seems like a salty hatred you've built towards EVs because they don't go vroom vroom.

        • +1

They said the same sort of thing regarding the horse and the Model T.

          How did that turn out?

      • +1

I’ve changed over to all electric in our household, but I can understand where they are coming from - many people enjoy that engine sound and feel

    • I'm gonna put a blow-off valve on mine

  • +1

Great for business buyers but private buyers will be left out to hang dry. All the tax incentives means business buyers can sell their car for almost half price and come out with a neutral position.

    • no not true, any sale proceed is fully taxed as income so the tax incentive is only if you drive it until its worth nothing

  • +1

I bought my brand new model Y performance from the inventory in June in VIC - $97500 drive away. It comes with a mobile charger and real brembo rear caliper (fake red cover now). Spoke with Tesla, all cars built before Feb 2023 comes with mobile chargers. Very happy with my car.

  • Nice… But will only consider when Tesla's go for 30k. 50k is outrageous for a car. Even with minimal costs and fuel savings. You're looking about 20 years + to make up a difference for a 20k vehicle compared to a 50k vehicle.

    • +7

Lol. Even poverty pack Corolla starts at >$30k these days. Your brain needs post-covid recalibration.

      • +1

I was so shocked by the increased with car prices nowadays when I checked…

  • +1

Is it possible for me to get my friend in NSW to order this as they don't need to pay stamp duty? Someone assist me in not paying stamp duty lol - can't believe they stopped the ZEV rebate.

I'm thinking of waiting for new highland model.

  • +1

These built in US or China?

    • +1

      Chyna

      • so lithium ferro phosphate LFP batteries instead

        • +1

Only for standard RWD. LR and performance use cobalt which se people don’t want. Next Tesla models (all of them) will have LFP batteries.

          • +1

            @Wilson Wallace: Which is better?

            • @scphotos: LFP. Less battery degradation, can always charge to 100% and cheaper to make. Batteries currently in the performance and long range should only be charged to 80-90% and don’t run it lower than 20%. Usually when going on long drives it’s ok. IMO, LFP will have better resale value long term.

              • +2

@Wilson Wallace: NCM has its pros too, compared to LFP. NCM has a better density, and it has better cold weather tolerance than LFP. LFP can lose some range and regen when too cold.

                • @noz: Yeah I did read up about that. I guess if you’re living in Australia, LFP might be more suitable. If you’re in the Nordic’s, Canada or extremely cold environments, might be an issue. Seems as though Tesla is making a shift to LFP, Volvo / Hyundai and co still use NMC?

                  • @Wilson Wallace: It's certainly less of an issue in AU, but it is still there during the cold months if you live in a cold area. It isn't a significant issue though. I'm sure other EV makers will start using LFP for their low to mid km range vehicles but they would want to get their efficiency squared up first. e.g. Polestar is heavy, which affects efficiency and therefore range.

                    • @noz: The range is all relative. RWD LFP charges up to 100% where the LR and Performance with regards to “range and efficiency” there isn’t much difference as they can only be charged to 80-90% on for a daily. Unless you want to take off very fast, RWD comes out on top and best bang for buck!

Probably zero chance given the poor financial state and cost cutting going on

  • +1

Anyone seen the video of EMF these emit when charging? Or is that not proven?

    • +1

Have you seen how much EMF is emitted by a lightbulb?!?

  • Does the model 3 have Speedo yet?

    • Yes, on the top right of the screen .. very easy to see.

Or spend $40 to $130 for a speedo from Aliexpress.

  • With hardware 4 to be announced this year I'd put it off if possible.
We're talking about double the computing power vs the current hardware 3.

  • +2

Legit question, why are people obsessed with Tesla's and EVs in general?

Personally I don't see this as being a deal at all.

    • +2

They make the best EVs bang for buck

      • +1

Musk is good at marketing to the masses. Doesn’t need to pay a cent via social media.

        • The cars sell themselves. Most people who test drive them are blown away by how good they are

    • +4

Main reason is as a car its really good value:

      E.g. a Model Y has:

      • Heated seats (all) and heated steering wheel
      • Electric seats with memories and profiles
      • Premium sound system
      • Decent performance
      • Minimal running and maintenance costs
      • Massive amounts of space for storage (800L+)
      • Software updates constantly adding features to the car
      • Great technology, Auto Steer and AutoPilot (FSD coming soon)

Although the interior and exterior leaves a lot to be desired.

      As for popularity for EV's:
      - Low maintenance costs
      - No fuel costs (people sick of paying out of their a$$ for fuel)
      - Most people dont really drive more than 150kms in a day, the battery is only an inconvenience if youre doing a long journey

      • +2

Interior seems amazing to me … the tesla engineers have actually put some good thought into the design of the infotainment system operation and layout .. seats are super comfortable with heaps of adjustability.

        • +3

I think it just makes the car feel really empty (like an unfurnished apartment). I wish they had a HUD and some buttons. I find the infotainment genuinely distracting and a safety hazard when all i wanna do is adjust the vents.

          • +3

@SitarBoy: Could add fluffy dice to the mirror to make it more homely.

            • @MITM: Definitely could! But i genuinely find the interior to be really boring. It doesn't make me feel like its a "nice" car, but rather any other car. My 2012 C Class feels like a nicer car than the Tesla when you take away the technology.

          • @SitarBoy: how long did you drive the Tesla? If it was your first test drive for 20 mins, then it would feel distracting.

            you need a few hours.

            • @matt-ozb: Had two for over 6 months now and have been primarily driving it. The UI itself is great i dont miss CarPlay that much (just miss Waze for community reports).

I still definitely find that you have to take your eyes off the road too much for something as simple as adjusting air vents or making other changes.

A few buttons would be nice!

    • +1

Take one for a test drive .. it's a fun experience whether you want to buy one or not.

Then go and test drive the BYD Atto 3.

    • +2

There are a number of reasons of the top of my head…
      - cheaper fuel than an ICE engine
      - very snappy performance due to instant torque
      - no smelly petrol/diesel
      - many less parts, hence servicing costs are much cheaper
      - new functionality added regularly via software updates
      - tax incentives and rebates

I have a Tesla Model 3, it wasn't my preferred choice when I started looking for an EV. I spent a lot of time researching, and at the end of the day I found that Tesla is king. Even though it is not the perfect car IMO, no one can beat it in the main things that matter such as efficiency, weight, charging network.

  • Musk laughed at Warren Buff investing in BYD and BYD EVs.Now not so funny with BYD selling $40K drive away.

Dont like either but good news for consumers.

    • +3

at $40K, it is a completely different class of car.

small cheapo car for $40K compared to the cheapest premium sedan Tesla $62k .. not valid comparison

      • +5

Yawn. Tesla premium… does the Model 3 have a speedo yet?

        • +3

Yes, top right corner of screen.

          Works great.

      • -6

Sedans are not practical & archaic. Smart choice is hatchback - shorter for parking & more space for bicycles or similar. Extra rear wiper for more frequent distracting rains.
BYD is prestige brand & sells more cars than Tesla.

        • +6

          BYD is prestige brand

          What.

That is utterly incorrect - BYD are a bargain brand.

          Extra rear wiper

Hatchbacks have a rear wiper because they need it. The steeper rear profile means your back window gets coated in road water as you drive along. The shape of the rear literally sucks the spray against the glass.

Sedans and Coupes generally don't need a rear wiper - the different aerodynamics make the rear glass dry itself as you travel along.

        • Ok .. if you an MG quality hatch (ie BYD Atto 3) compared to a BMW 3 series quality sedan (ie Tesla Model 3) .. that's fine … the BYD Atto 3 is about $9K cheaper also.

        • More space for bicycles? Cyclist cars?
Most people don’t buy cars to transport bikes

    • +1

Yet Tesla has the highest margins of any car company and BYD were losing money up until recently.

Charlie Munger told Elon Musk to his face at a dinner with other leaders in 2009 “all the ways Tesla would fail”. Ten years later Musk was the richest person on Earth. Buffet and Munger could have bought Tesla in 2009 a thousand times over and now Buffet would be a trillionare.

  • -1

320 (+169 model Y) Tesla likes/sold means much less road noise & my property is going up ;)
When 1/3 price BYD Seagull (or similar price) comes then the likes will go 1000+ (real bargain ;)

  • +1

If the Model 3 didn't look so bland and unexciting I would have considered it.

    • +2

Go test drive it and see what you are missing

      • I have.

Android Auto/Apple Carplay to start. Cheap looking interior. Stupid stalk gear change control.

It wasn't all downsides but it certainly isn't all upsides either.

        • +1

The stalk gear change is genius in my opinion. If you open your mind for a moment, you'll see that it's a great design decision.

It makes perfect sense for ease of maneuvering - during parking or 3 point turns, swapping between forward and reverse is a simple flick of a finger so you can keep both hands on the wheel.

A gear stick for FNR in the centre console is entirely unnecessary and a massive waste of space. The only reason it feels "normal" is because of muscle memory and tradition. The mechanical constraints from yesteryear that dictated the location of a gear selector are long obsolete.

  • Dont get it. Why is there constantly these posts about Tesla price reductions? Its a reduction, basically its the new permanent price, how is that a bargain. Otherwise, whats stopping someone going to Coles and posting for every item with a price mark down sticker??

    • +2

Would you prefer if the Tesla car is RRP$100,000, the discount reduces from 30% off to 35% off .. then we can ozbargain that deal?

It's the same thing buddy .. the RRP is always changing .. Tesla do not have fixed RRP like most products .. compare pricing for last 3 years, then please tell me if this is a bargain.

        • +2

Not even an opinion from you to back this up.

Model Y is the world's best selling car so many people disagree with you .. but you're probably right.

        • +3

"So many better built EVs out there." Agree totally at their price point

"Wont touch it even if it was 10K" but now you sound like a hater

    • Otherwise, whats stopping someone going to Coles and posting for every item with a price mark down sticker??

Weekly Colesworthaldiga specials are posted every week. A price reduction is a valid bargain.

  • +7

Tesla is the best EV to buy

  • Does the Enhanced Autopilot feature which costs $5100, can be added later as software update or it requires any additional hardware? Without adding the EA during purchase, the base model 3 is eligible for the QLD Gov rebate.

    • Go to Tesla app .. and add to cart .. then make payment for $5100 via credit card

EDIT.. that was answering your question, but agree with comments below

      • +3

Also, it’s almost always cheaper to add on afterwards to avoid the luxury car tax

        • Luxury Car Tax threshold for EVs has now gone up to 89k for FY 2023/2024 which should be good for anyone wanting to buy the performance or had extras.

    • +4

Do some research. Probably not worth it IMO but check it out how it works on Australian roads

      • +3

Definitely not worth it. The standard autopilot lane keep us very good and more than enough

  • The BYD Seal is facing some tough competition now!

I really hope this can drive the Seal's launch price down

  • +1

    Tesla looks ugly.

    • +3

Things I can't afford always looks ugly

      • +1

Even if I could afford it, I still wouldn't. EV hate asside, Tesla designs are crap in compared to Bimmer or even Kia. Personal preferences are different, so no offence to anyone who is owning a Tesla.

  • +8

+1 to Tesla for reducing car prices when every other manufacturer is raising them.

    • +1

Agree .. Elon has exceeded NASA engineering with SpaceX .. he knows what he is doing.

  • +1

So ICE cars are becoming expensive and EVs are becoming cheaper. Who would have thought?

    Elon Musk

    • Very exciting future with quality car manufacturing developing in China .. nice BYD vs Tesla competition.

Just like the smartphone era with Xiaomi and Oppo and OnePlus and Huawei developing into equal / superior products.

    • That dude just limited views on a website that relies on it for ad revenue. He’s not as smart as you think.

  • Is afterpay accepted, like all my other ozb purchases?

  • Naive question: Is it possible to buy in QLD, claim the rebate and then bring the car to VIC and re-register there? Will it save any money?

    • +1

You can, as long as you have a address in qld. Also you can keep the rego in qld so you can skip road tax

      • +1

@webtonmoy u will need a qld drivers licence, i.e. proof of living here.
