    • Good point I had 20k in last 3 year .. since covid started .. !!

  • +1

this website has low quality grainy images all over it, especially the banner. how do they expect to sell 37k cars with this kind of website design? Feel like im on aliexpress right now

  • +3

Resale value on this will be shocking. Beware.

    • lol … another Toyota/Mazda/Nissa/Kia dealer ?

If Resell was that bad … you won't have Mahindra in Australia for last 15 year and 74 year on planet earth .. lol :D

      • +1

What does poor resale have to do with how long Mahindra have been in Australia?

        • -1

lol … what does "Mahindra" has to do with "Poor Resale Value" ? .. !

          • @SydBoy: Everything. Also, $36,990 drive-away is the normal price for this, so not a bargain. Therefore I'm going to downvote.

            • +1

@Mr Bob Dobalina: LoL … They are doing introductory price until 31st August… Try reading again without coloured glasses … 😂

  • probably made out of cardboard

  • -1

No uglier than the latest Mits SUVs front ends. They look like a Star Wars nightmare.

Buy for reliability,(real) warranty, cost to service, price of parts, interchangeability of parts, parts supply offshore.type of engine (belt VS chain).
At least this is not the parasitic badge engineering trap that Craptiva etc, GMH employed. First the Yanks (profanity) over local cars, then they foisted road anchors on us. Some ally.

  • -2

    Ugly and piss poor quality.

    • -3

Subjective comment about its looks. And how would you know about its quality? You have one? What are you comparing it to? Mercedes? Hyundai? Kia?

I'd be curious to know what the parts availability is for Mahindra vehicles, especially when it runs out of warranty and you choose to get it repaired via a local mechanic… last thing you would want to do is buy a Mahindra vehicle and find parts have to be sourced overseas.

Not going to buy one regardless just curious.

    • LoL which part you source from Australia? Most coming from overseas and you just buy from dealer .. !

      • +2

He meant that having to wait for parts to be shipped in from overseas to the dealer.

I have a customer waiting on a rear diff for a Great Wall ute for over one year now. Local dealer said they would air freight it, then blamed COVID (outbreaks here), then blamed COVID (outbreaks in China), and now they don't even know where it is.

Another one of my customer had to wait six weeks to get an AC compressor for a Jaguar from the local dealer. I sourced one for them in under two weeks.

  • +4

Interesting… ozbargainers talking about class! Anyone else find it funny?

  • what's the bargain?

  • Indian cars are not successful as compare the other cars like Toyota, Mazda, Honda and WV.
The body of the indian cars starts shaking in between one year.

    • -2

      LoL

Looks like another Toyota, Mazda , Honda dealer feeling the pain…😂😂😂😂

This Indian car driving in Australia since 2007 .. and driving on indian road since 1949 … !

  • -2

Better this than something owned by the CCP.

  • The comments are lit.

Screw the car, Mahindra should host these debates and they will make more money.

  • +1

I'd go with an older Mazda CX5 or newer CX30 at this price point really.

  • No Ancap rating yet

    • Global 5 star safety rating … LoL 😂😉😂

  • ITT: Salty 4wd owners who paid 3x the price on a used "rig" with over 200k kms

    • If you want this car to sell, you need to stop posting the specs.

      • +1

@opinio I don't understand what you mean by that?

Standard specs actually exceed many other cars in this price range.

Can you elaborate which of the specs are under par for a 37k large SUV?

It is more so the lack of brand understanding and unknown reliability which is the deciding factor to Australian market at the moment.

        • The quality of a car is based on reputation. Reputation comes from people who buy or observe the car. Not the manufacture. A list of words. Leather steering wheel…. Doesn’t make it a good car. Or quality. Yeah it all depends on the quality of the leather as it relates to longevity and wear and oxidisation in the sun. Cheap leather lasts a short time. Quality leather lasts a long time. A spec list means nothing. Most high quality cars have a limited spec list. The car sells itself. Mahindra are garbage cars. Throw away items. Based mainly on selling to get out the door. They appeal to a disposable market. No worries if that is what you want. Toyota and Subaru for example focus on longer term quality. Brand reputation. Building the brand into the second hand market.

          • @opinio: LoL … another Toyota or Subaru dealer making comments without any base and taking frustration out here as more consumer move to alternative brand with more offering without bulky margin attached…. And I can understand…!

            😂 😂 😂

    • Mahindra will just break down in 2 years. You won't get warranty. Come on man.

      • LoL … They are around 75 years and many Australian car manufacturers bolted out of country in that time … 😂 😂

  • +1

still better looking that 300k+ BMW X M

  • +3

i am not sure if mods have read through the comments or taken action against a few users because there are many very clear hateful comments which have nothing to do with the product in the deal.

    • -1

The mods must have posted them lol.

    • It is the trend now

    • although, reading through comments gives an indication about someone's original background and someone's upbringing.

      • Not necessarily. The internet will just cause some people to just blurt out stuff. For example; Mahindra won't honor any warranty stuff. :) Just buy one a find out for your self. You will be calling the car Ombundsman all day when your car falls to bits in a couple of years.

        • +1

          thats true
but so many comments here are hate comments.
          latest e.g. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/13932584/redir

          • @backupper1: Some of the people here have no idea how India operates. How many here have actually lived there? If you have, you will run for your life when you see this car being offered here. Over there any certification can be bought including medical degree or driver's licence.

            • @Naigrabzo: how the things operate there is not relevant because the comments (mostly by middle easterns) on this deal and the Chinese electric car deal shows that it has nothing to do with the product nor the country of origin but people.

  • -3

Cost 37k. Worth 20k the day after you drive it out the showroom. Worth 10k in about two to three years and unsellable in five years.

    • +1

@opinio I just replied to an earlier comment of yours abouts specs, you seem to have a distate against this vehicle.

Could you provide further context why so we can all understand? Is it based on previous experiences?

      • -2

I don’t think I need to help you understand. Buy the car if you want. If you don’t understand then read up on the subject.

      • Must be one of the magical crystal ball users active in this thread. No context, just magic.

    • LoL .. must be Toyota or Hyundai or Nissan or Kia dealer…. understand your pain… 😂

    • How can you sell a car that has already fallen apart??

  • +1

Can it hold my fantastic tea?

  • +3

"impressive mStallion Petrol Engine with 149.2 kw" - that 0.2KW obviously just tips it over from the "good" to "impressive" engine category.

  • Mahindra will have to prove itself in the Aussie market and that won't happen overnight. People need to see long term reliability and eventually decent re-sale value before spending.
Australians have seen so many smaller foreign makers come in full of promises only to come to bits in hash Aussie conditions. Even paint and intereirs would fail with many European makers not set up for the harsh UV here. And then there's our less than stellar roads. Pretty brutal on front-ends and poor build quality.
The Koreans faced the same cynicism before they did prove themselves so only time will tell whether Mahindra makes it or goes the way of LADA, Fiat, Proton, Foton and Yugo

      • Well thats a good start.
As always, the market will decide long term. Many makers fresh to the Aussie market offer very cheap cars that hopefully prove themselves. Thats how the Japanese and Koreans did it. Mahindra are coming in at higher price point where people will be having a long think about re-sale value, so its a harder ask. Only reliability over a long time will answer that. Probably take at least 20 years to really stick but we will all be electric by them, most likely so the market will be quite different place

        • Mahindra test cars in Australia and test done by Australian company.

Check out video by Aussie Roothy

          https://youtu.be/uo8EA2ez-vc

          • @SydBoy: Not sure why you removed your comment but my comment above is meant as an answer to your repost.
BTW that video speaks more about in cabin features etc. Long term reliably takes, well long term. Time. Maybe 20 years.
Simply put, there is nothing Mahindra can say or do that will convince buyers here other than reliability over time.
            That will decide it.

            • +1

@King Tightarse: I wanted to edit my comment but I could not so I removed it and reposted as reply.

You are right but for me increase in dealership will get this to market better than anything as for reliability I am not worried as they are around 15 years in Australia and probably 75+ years in existence…!

          • -1

@SydBoy: That YT video is such a great native advertisement. LOVE IT.

    • Mahindra used to own Ssangyong vehicle brand until recently which was/is selling in Australia too, so hopefully they do have enough knowledge about Australia market to have made decision to launch their own line up of cars.

Regarding weather conditions, India has wide range of weather conditions due to its size and geography including hot, dry, humid, cold/Frosty/Snow with roads full of pot holes and puddles. Mahindra is a reputed and reliable brand in India, so I believe their build quality should be good enough for Australian conditions too.

My concern would be availability of parts and generic service centers to avoid expensive maintenance costs by dealerships

  • +3

I have seen this car personally. The amount of tech and quality you are getting for 36000$ banger. Way better than other budget brands like MG or Havel.

    • That's true… It's all about value… !

  • Why RRP is even a bargain.

    • +1

      Don't you read full description?

It's introductory offer so prices will go up in August!!

      • +5

        SydBoy, are you somehow associated?
Not a criticism but I feel you are boosting this brand more than discussing it.

        • No… I bought it … Just waiting for delivery in a week's time … !

          No association with Mahindra.. !

          • @SydBoy: Oh I understand, you have buyer's enthusiasm. Fair enough! Please come back and share your impressions once you have had it for a few days, it would be interesting

        • +1

If they raise prices people can easily shrug it in favour of Made in Japan or Korea cars. Several Japanses made medium SUVs are in the vicinity of this 'introductory discounted' bargain.

          • @megadeth: LoL so another Toyota, Mazda, Nissan, Kia, Hyundai dealer spreading fake news .. !

Nissan X-Trail 7 seater start at $43,590 without sunroof, without leather seats, power below 150kw, smaller touch screen, without wireless charging, without 12 SONY SPEAKER, many other features., .,. 😂

            https://www.nissan.com.au/vehicles/browse-range/x-trail/spec…

            😂

            • -3

@SydBoy: I just listed what was there in medium SUV at drive.com.au many medium SUVs are available in this price range so it's not a bargain. It's like another Great Wall or Chery. Personally i think ICE cars are on their way out quite soon, so not for me!

          • +1

@megadeth: Amazing work thanks but to ensure like for like comparison these prices aren't driveway.

I know for example the Mazda cx-5 Maxx including dealer delivery and taxes is nearly 40k drive away.(listed as 35k in your list)

So add 5-7k to most prices above to have drive away price depending on state.

            • -1

@cheapaschips: These are like for like prices as published on Drive.com.au today but every lineitem comes with different standard accessories, so not all lines will match your Mahindra inclusions. But my point is that RRP is NOT a bargain but good luck to people buying. I'm no delaer and am researching at present; almost 90% sure I'll end up getting a Tesla MYLR…

              • +1

@megadeth: You are correct they are RRP but not "Drive away"

Dealer delivery, taxes and registration is always added into the "RRP" to calculate final driveway price.

Not trying to be difficult but feel free to double check by looking at driveway prices for a few of the models listed to see the price is higher than just RRP.

                • @cheapaschips: IMHO, RRPs are a consistent baseline to be able to compare 'like for like', as 'on roads' are to be added on all cars anyway. Local dealers/agents regularly shove certain stock of poorly selling cars with free 'on roads' to attract buyers throughout the year.

  • +7

Lots of hate speech and racist comments in this thread. Many of them talking through the arse even though they have no idea about Mahindra or Indian Auto Manufacturing sector. I bet many of them have not driven one or even seen one in their life.

Now for those who are really checking out this car, Mahindra off-roaders are one of the best (reliability and capability wise), when it comes to bush driving. They are used in conditions where no other vehicles can go. During my visit, I have seen them being used as daily transport in hi-range regions where there are nothing but mountain paths. They are trusted by military, which shows. For a common man, there are not many options in this league unless you are ready to spit out 3x to 4x on a similar product from other Japanese manufactures or the Jeep. They are storming the South African market. Check out South African reviews if you are interested.

Simple, capable machines and well worth the money.

    Scrap metal material:)

    • +1

Same as scrap comments by Toyota, Mazda, Hyundai, Kia dealer making comments on this post..!

When you remove (if you can) colour glasses then see what Aussie legend Roothy says about Australian test of Mahindra

      https://youtu.be/uo8EA2ez-vc

      • -1

Wow if he’s an Aussie legend then must be 100% true. You tube reviews are always spot on, objective and never sponsored. Good find.

        • +4

😂 you don't know John Rooth means you are another keyboard worrier without understanding Australia 4x4 industry

Read if you want to learn about car legend.. !

          https://classictwowheels.com.au/john-rooth/

          https://books.google.com.au/books/about/Bush_Cooking.html?id…

          • @SydBoy: Where did I say I do not know of him. It’s just one sponsored view. Read it please. You need to read a bit more. Be a bit more objective. I understand you were hoping for 100% support after splashing out on a new car. It’s human nature. But with a brand that has a poor reputation you need to expect many negative comments. Toyota took many many decades to get a good reputation outside Japan. You’re also going to have to wait too. Wether the car is good or not. A forum or spec list will not get it there.

  • -2

    !50 Kw…. That's a No from me……

    • +4

What is the power in Toyota RAV4 GX ?

127kw @6600rpm … Probably no for you as well 😂

      • +1

        Definitely not…..

  • +3

Test drove Xuv700AX7L. While this has better features than my Mercedez Benz 😂 GLB series, I feel the ride was a bit rough. I was obviously comparing it with a car double the price. Lots and lots of modern features for the price. I wouldn’t use the 3rd row seat for anything other than storage space. They are not practical for adults or even teen age kids.

I think the price, availability and warranty are plus point. The dealer said Mahindra is “working on” the dealer network in NSW and VIC. But I’ll take that with a pinch of salt.
I think this will compete against Haval non-hybrid models. While Havel isn’t a great seller in China, XUVs sell like hot cakes in India.

If you can spend more for a base model and can wait a bit, I’d say get a Mazda. I personally was just curious to test drive and not in the market for a car.

    • I test drove Mazda CX 8 sports priced at 46k and the engine lags in pickup obviously many reviews online says that as well … !

Mazda don't provide all those features that Mahindra provides and important thing is that Mazda don't have touch screen infortainment system…leather seat or panoramic roof or auto open door handle … 😂

Car like Mahindra will only make it easy choice for consumers in price bracket up to 50k with features of car worth 90k as you mentioned.. !

  • Sci-Fi Technology

    • Surprisingly down to earth features…..

Ticks all the boxes for me, looks elegant and feature packed than any in it's price. You don't need a V8 to do 80 or 60

Looks good, especially for the price, I would much rather be in this than a Haval. Mahindra is a big brand coming into the market that has made a name in offroad cars here and in the US, it would be a really good test for Mahindra. I have a feeling Mahindra is going to be pretty big in the next 5 years here. Interesting times ahead for sure.

But you are in a used Toyota or an Audi from 2005. Mahindra would make a super profit if all insecure Indians who upvoted here actually bought the XUV700.

@SydBoy - pics of your xuv700 or the order or else it didn't happen :)

People fear change and have there head in the sand over overpriced sucker me in big 3 car makers pulling huge profits. A new landcruisers is 4 times the price but is it 4 times as good. Bet not one person who has given there expert opinion here has ever owned or driven one. Maybe 40k is the right price for a decent SUV. They have been in this game along time. Pretty sure the same unqualified opinions were given when hyundai came on the scene.. And look at them now.

    • Geoff, there are approximate 30,000 parts in a car and they all have to work flawlessly for many years to offer a reliable experience.
There have been so many foreign contenders fall by the wayside in the Aussie market. They all come in promising all kinds of things and our harsh environment sorts em out one by one. I remember Lada's being imported and Peter Brock promoting them. Turned out to be utter garbage cars failing in ways we never saw before. Felt dissolving in interiors, poor quality wiring and electrics that failed in oh so may ways. Bearings that just gave up. etc etc. You dont see any old Ladas anymore. Same as Daewoo, Yugo, Proton. All crap
Hyundai & Kia went the other way, promised little, guaranteed it to the max and the the vehicle's reliability do the talking. Now they are on top.
Will Mahindra follow suit? Only time will tell. Is Indian metallurgy and general manufacturing up to the challenge? Lots of bravado and sales promises but the only thing you can rely on is the Aussie conditions and time. If everything is really up to scratch we will find out in time.
The real question is can Mahindra make a decent electric or hydrogen fuel cell vehicle because we will will probably all be using those before the brand has established itself here and formed the kind of trust in the market that ensures decent resale

      • So you said "Lots of bravado and sales promises but the only thing you can rely on is the Aussie conditions and time."

Mahindra already completed 100,000 km for Scorpio in Australia.. Simpson desert to far out country side .. I guess I already published above for someone else.. !

        https://youtu.be/uo8EA2ez-vc

Regarding 30,000 parts then if they work in India then I am sure it will work here as high temperature, bad weather plus bad road all exist in India then in Australia.. but I guess time will tell.

Every vehicle has +/- … I had Hyundai for last 15 years (two models) and while the first lasted 7 years with high maintenance cost the current one without any major issues so while Hyundai provided value and reliability it is no longer falls into value car by any stretch so time to move on.. ! ( Obviously I was going to buy Mazda but Mahindra probably came in at right time with bang for buck value)

SydBoy, to convince the general Australian buying public you need time and broad acceptance.
Individual stories about single cars have no meaning. Hyundai now sits up there with Toyota in terms of brand recognition, sales and reliability.
The Japanese had the hardest task of all. They were trying to enter the Australian market twenty years after being the hated enemy who attacked Australia in war. If they can do it anyone can but in Mahindra's case, the truth is that most Australians do not think 'high quality' when they think of Indian manufacturing. Maybe they will eventually but not yet. Mahindra are at the start of their road and only time will tell.
One excited customer does not equal twenty years of broad public acceptance.
