Soft road SUVs are not seeing any off-road, it’s cosplay

    • +1

can that small hatchback take 1 pram and luggages when i go ard holiday or i have to drive 2 cars again. just coz you always stay at home…

      • A Mazda6 wagon can fit more than a CX-5.

        • a Mazda 6 is not a small hatchback.

          • @ltwo: My point still stands. It's not an SUV (more like a stretched hatchback) yet people think their beloved hatchback-on-stilts provides more cabin and boot space.

    • +1

Let me guess, you have no kids.

      • -7

Actually do, mazda 3 is fits our needs, can fit a pram and other stuff. Plenty of the room at the back. Surprisingly still has more more rooms than CX5

        • +1

          No it doesn’t

          • @rplusr: Mazda3 hatchback/sedan boot capacity: 334L/444L
CX-5 boot capacity: 438L (last model was 403L)

            • +1

@Techie4066: So, it doesn’t have more boot space.

              • @rplusr: Compared to the last CX-5 (the most popular CX-5), the hatchback had 17% less boot space and the sedan had 9% more boot space.
Even the current model has less boot space compared to the sedan. Bet that surprised you.

                • @Techie4066: I wouldnt be trying to get my 2 kids in a CX5 either. The only option really are 7 seaters, just to put the third row down for more boot space. Current car has over 1100L with the third row flat, and I wouldnt go less than that, not until the pram is gone anyway.

Its also not all about boot space, cabin space is important when good child seats are usually big and take up a lot of space.

Also, the height of a SUV makes it easier to get kids in and out of child seats compared to a sedan / hatch.

                  • @CheapBrah:

I wouldnt be trying to get my 2 kids in a CX5 either.

Lol, seriously? What luxury! My family of 5 has had a CX-5 growing up and it was fine for the long trips we did. No one needs a tank.

And yep, cabin space is important. There can be cars found out there that make good use of their length by prioritising boot and cabin space. Mazdas can be squishy in that department as they love long engine bays for some reason.

                    • @Techie4066: Maybe once kids are out of pram age, our pram would literally take up the whole boot of a CX5, so it would be impossible to do shopping or anything else.

                      • @CheapBrah: Well I really don't know how my parents coped with 3 young children and a Subaru Outback hahaha. Nor large families that piled into Minis from last century. Also I should say, bending down to a lower car is such a minor tradeoff for a lighter car that uses less fuel and handles better.

  • +26

Racists are crawling out of their holes.

    • +13

I fail to see how stating something made in a country for very low quality is racist?

is it racist to then say don't buy Australian made goods because it's too expensive?

    • +5

The insecurities are crawling through. How is it racist? Like you cant say crap from India is crap?

      • +11

It became racist when you referred the nation instead of the car maker in your comment. Generalising it's crap because it's made in India is the racist part of the comment. However, you found the right forum to make such comments because people here don't even realise they are just casual racists. Afterall, they are majority here.

        • So those who are upvoting this mediocre car just because it is from an Indian company are supremacists of some sorts?

          • +6

@dealsucker: How do you know why those people upvoted the deal? Making assumptions on that is also racism. And your reply doesn't justify the racism in your original comment, you are just trying to convince yourself it's OK to be a hater.

If you think the car is mediocre based on the specs or value for money you could've simply mentioned that in your comment and neg the deal instead of calling it crap because it's made in India. I don't see people making racist comments on Tesla or BYD deals which are basically announcements of their new models coming to Australia at RRP.

            • @rvsure: I did not say it is crap because it is made in India. Given the patriotic jingoism, i simply asked how is it wrong to say that crap from India is crap? How is it racist?

              • +1

@dealsucker: Sorry, I misunderstood you. Can you refer me to the comment where it's a deal because it's made in India. Or vouched for its quality because it's made in India. If not ai don't know where "Like you cant say crap from India is crap?" in your comment coming from. How do you even know it's crap. Did you test drive it or did someone who uses it tell you?

                • @rvsure: Well i did not even say that it is crap. I said its a decent car but not competitive even at this price. My comment was for people who were taking offence at it being called crap and saying that it was racist.

And you did not answer, if it is being upvoted because it is from India then it is supremacy of some sorts?

                  • +5

                    @dealsucker:

And you did not answer, if it is being upvoted because it is from India then it is supremacy of some sorts?

Yes, it is. If someone purely upvotes the deal for the sole reason being it is made in India.

P.S. I saw your other comments. Calling people to learn better English is also racist. I am sure the first arrivals to this country and their descendants didn't take the effort to learn the aboriginal languages.

Seems like 90 percent haters are from above cohorts. You just missed modi haters

        • +2

F**K Modi and his puppet master Adani.

        • -1

No one gives a pigs ar$e about Modi here.

          • +2

@dealsucker: Yeah. We pander to the Americans and the British.

            • +1

@RSmith: Yes. Because they are developed countries with rule of law. Not a banana republic of subjugated people who like to call themselves "the mother of democracy"

              • +2

                @dealsucker:

Because they are developed countries with rule of law.

Built by decimating the local populations and of course looting them (what the British did to India).

                • -2

@RSmith: You want to go back and check what the local population of the Indian sub-continent was? The new age human, with which we share more than 99% of our DNA, also decimated neanderthal human so you dont belong on this planet then?

Also take that up British. We are in Australia. And before you mention Aboriginals, you can simply chose to leave if you will.

                  • +3

                    @dealsucker:

                    And before you mention Aboriginals

                    Vote Yes for the voice.

              • +1

@dealsucker: Rule of jungle more likely. A country ruled by law would not invade other countries.

Or their law is not worth the paper they are printed on

      • +3

Did you just created this your account to post this comment?

It's very ironic that someone with a username suggesting a religious fanatic is complaining of racism.

        • The irony is totally lost on upper caste hindu brahman supremacists and they bring it here inspite of knowing fully well that no one gives a rats ar$e. Its just their way of feeling better than everyone else around except that they wont go back to their own country. Hypocrites of the highest order.

          • +4

            @dealsucker: Whoa. Someone's hurt.

            • +1

@RSmith: Yup i have had with supremacists of all type.

            • @RSmith: lol Whenever I see the words "Upper Caste Brahmin Supremacists" I always picture a shouting leftist banging their head on the wall because no one cares about them.

    • +1

The same people who also shop at Kmart Big W and Target but loooove their cheaply made overseas t-shirt or nik nak

  • +4

Brave for a new brand to enter a first world market as non-EV. Personally wouldnt go for it but all for more competition.

    • +1

Chery re-entered very recently with another ugly SUV.

    • +1

Yeah, if only it is an EV with the same price, will sell like hotcakes!

  • +5

Damn… the graphics on the website is so pixellated is hurting my eyes…

  • +2

At least if someone who drives this cuts you off, you’ll remember them very clearly

  • -7

This is excellent value car particularly the introduction offer …. no matter what hatters says … !

Toyota and Mazda probably going to close shop once Mahinda have more dealership in Sydney.

    • +5

      The Hatters are Mad!

    • +6

Where is the /s? They couldn't even kill Toyota in India.

      • +4

Given how many subcontinentals drive Toyotas in Australia, it surely won't happen here either.

      • +2

LoL you didn't get the point.

This Mahindra prices are lower in Australia then in India which means people in India are spending more and waiting for a year to get this car.

So indian can afford Toyota to Mercedes to Mahindra… But Australia with recession won't have choice but to get Mahindra for quality and value in my opinion and Toyota and Mazda has no choice but to either reduce price or increase offering at lower price to beat Mahindra.

What is missing in Mahindra is dealership in Sydney and Melbourne and once that is established the game will begin.

I am getting AX7L next week which I paid without doing trial.. !

  • +7

What's the deal supposed to be? Just a cheap regular price for a car that is going to possibly cause problems with sourcing parts and maintenance due to low presence of this brand here

    • That’s sensible. Cheers.

  • +5

XUV700 is a popular SUV in India that has gained attention for its engine and mechanical engineering. Sans the looks, which is not that bad imo, it is considered good in terms of engine and mechanical engineering.

Mahindra has a reputation for building rugged and reliable vehicles, and the XUV700 continues that tradition. The engine and mechanical components are designed to withstand demanding conditions incl rough road, ensuring long-term durability and reduced maintenance requirements.

It comes equipped with various safety features such as multiple airbags, ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution), electronic stability control, hill hold assist, and more.

Ill buy it but waiting for Thar.

    • +2

Thar will not be coming to Australia and its official due to lawsuits filed by Jeep

    • +1

Those aren't really safety features really worth mentioning as they are standard on nearly every new car for sale and have been around for decades. Would you mention electric automatic winding windows as a feature as well? Autonomous Emergency Braking is missing in it which is a newer safety feature. New safety features now are things like radar cruise control, cross traffic monitoring, fatigue monitoring, lane keep assist, 360 deg camera. How many of these does it have?

      • Did I?
Have a look first and then make up your mind.
It is designed for rugged conditions unlike GWM.
Im not offended or not have any affiliation.

      • Adaptive cruise with sign monitoring is the headline feature, front collision warning "sends an alert", they don't mention if it'll stop the car. Higher spec model appears to have 360 cameras and what I assume is a blind spot warning light.

    • +1

      Atleast credit ChatGPT

  • If this pricing was for Scorpio N that would have been great and I would def consider. For this price, and if not into 4WD better off buying a CRV 7 Seat variant which will fetch great resale as well. Mahindra if you listening - Scorpio N should have received this price as in India as well Scorpio N is cheaper than XUV 700

    • +1

Agreed. And wish they got rid of the rear most seats and sold it as a 5 seater.

  • Had me until "electronic park brake"

  • +3

Our market is too competitive especially in this segment to buy this at its asking price. It is a decent car but not competitive enough. For e.g. all the plastics inside are hard - no soft plastics at all - even the dashboard. There is a reason why it is cheap and it's not because it has world class build quality and engineering.

    • -2

The reason could be lower profit margins to gain market share

      • +4

And even at this price, I dont think its competitive at all.

    • LoL where did you touch plastic?

  • +8

Thank the Liberal Party of Australia for the death of Australian manufactured cars folks.

    • +2

Sure they could have employed slave labour like the Indian industries have done and we could have retained our car industry

      • +3

Or just continued to subsidise the car industry like every government/country with a car industry.

        • +2

This ^ we've lost a national industry we may never get back. Thanks Libs.

      • What is the definition of slave?

Indian paying more for this car in India… LoL

    • +3

Actually it was the signing of Free Trade Agreement between India and Australia that allows this shitbox to enter our market.

    • +1

We would've been a global hub for electric car manufacturing too, if only the LNP weren't asking to be bent over further by fossil fuel companies scared of having to adapt/stop killing the planet

  • +3

People bought Holden craptiva because it's cheap. So this will sell in good numbers. any thing is better than a craptiva.

    • +1

probably bought to see who can get the most ks before the transmission blew up

      it's a pissing contest

  • their dual cab may be the most horrendous thing i've ever seen

  • +8

Surprised to see so many upvotes for a mediocre car. No deal. Resale value would be very low as well.

Just because they are popular in India doesn't mean anything. Average Kms driven in India are much much lower compared to a country like Australia.

The most reliable brand Toyota are not very popular in India and apparently only has a market share of 5.5% which says a lot.

Funnily enough, all the fellow Indians who are upvoting this deal will continue buying a used camry.

    • +12

Lots of patriotic fervour on display. Indians are proud to the point of arrogance & will blindly / wantonly support, promote or upvote anything that they consider will improve their national prestige.

      • +1

        Not me :)

Call it as I see it. Neutral towards the car. Nothing great but doesn't suck as badly as the Scorpio.

I wouldn't buy a Mahindra from personal choice.

        • +3

Clever man. Just like I wouldn't buy a Land Rover or a Jeep. Where it's from is largely irrelevant, reliability is key.

          • @Ham Dragon: Exactly. And some personal choice too.

Have owned Honda and Lexus in the past. Own a Volvo and Hyundai now along with a BMW bike. Love German bikes but cannot do German cars for some reason.

          • @Ham Dragon: This!
A car is a utility people, there’s no need to feel proud or embarrassed if the factory in your home country did a good/bad job.

We’re a multicultural nation welcoming more migrants everyday. I have never seen any people or culture to be less than our own in terms of talent and strive for the better.

      • +4

It is so silly and to me is a sign of massive insecurity instead than prestige of any sort. Funny thing is the so called patriotism comes out only after they have emigrated out and they would not want to go back either. Not all of us are the same though.

        • +1

As a person of indian origin, I can say that our dictator has stoked these feelings of insecurities among Indians and want them to be proud of silly things.

4 million Indians died during covid as Modi was nowhere to be found. Should be proud of that first. India ranks below Afghanistan in press freedom. That's more awesome than the Mahindra xuv700

    • +1

      lol

when you say "Average Kms driven in India are much much lower compared to a country like Australia." you forgot to understand the condition of indian roads are significantly (much much) poor then that of Australia and if this car sales a lot in india shows it's durability to me and it will be rock solid on smooth silky road of Australian urban city and will work on regional roads as well.. !

Mahindra has more than 1 year long waiting and price of this vehicle is higher in India shows that when it comes to money someone got way more than others .. !

Sure thing Toyota won't stop making it but this type of quality alternative surely make them reduce pricing or provide more offering at lower price .. !

I don't see any issue except parts & limited dealership in metro city … (each metro city has at-least one dealership at the moment with adelaide just opened today).. !

    • The most reliable brand Toyota are not very popular in India and apparently only has a market share of 5.5% which says a lot.

Suzuki was considered the most reliable brand in India for decades and they were market leaders (still are I guess). It's not that people don't trust Toyota more but Toyota just can't compete in terms of pricing. It's about finding the right balance between pricing and reliability. Whilst Toyota did reasonably well in the Western markets, it hasn't found that niche for the broader mass needs in India.

  • +4

No need to wait the bloody toyota rav 4 no more!

    • Lol seriously. Are you comparing this with Rav 4?

  • +1
  • +2

    No thanks.
Is this the 3rd or 4th time mahindra has tried to launch here? The ssannyyong of india.
And that dealer network, 1 dealership in a city of 5 million, now that's support.

  • +1

Crazy price! Trade in your old car and pay peanut to get a new car like this!

  • +6

I'm sure there will be a market for affordable suvs but this looks like an ad and not a deal.
