Is it based on Indian tractors, and Made in India??

    • +4

      based on tractors

      Just like Lamborghini

      • A mechanic I know with a farm bought a Mahindra ute based on the tractor experience he found great.

Pure repairable utility he found comfortable to get in and out of.

  • Cars are we drive everyday. At least I can do a test drive before I buy.

    • +1

Looks like you can book a test drive

  • +6

Neutral about this. In the past, i abhorred Mahindras based on the specs but now they are turning a corner for sure.

    The Good:
Designed by Pininfarina - An Italian design giant (with 70% stake owned by Mahindra)
Its the cheapest 7 seater SUV in Australia based on prices now.
Has the best safety features out of any Mahindra released here so far
Warranty and servicing plan is good.
    interior looks decent.
Infotainment/screen is awesome to my eyes at least
Initial reviews are decent too. Common good things are ride quality and ease of driving.

    The bad:
    White seats. Really?
    Lack of dealerships in cities
5 star ANCAP missing. Global NCAP is not as strict. Even the Chery Omoda 5 has 5 star Euro NCAP which is as strict as ANCAP. Needs ANCAP testing asap!
Price is good but needed a knockout price such as $34k driveaway to entice new buyers.
Mahindra is well known in regional areas due to farming equipment. But can it beat the Chinese brands and create a space for itself in the passenger vehicle segment?
Warranty capped at 150,000 kms is pathetic. Make it unlimited 7 years warranty.

But I feel that Mahindra is investing more here which is good for consumers. Let the brands battle it out and make safe and decent vehicles even more affordable to the masses.

Remember that the Chery Omoda 5 has outsold Honda HRV, Skoda Kamiq and Peugeot in its segment. This after so many reviews called them out for poor drive experience. So you never know.

To all the haters, it's ultimately product which will sell and not indian brand or Chinese brand or any other country brand. Let's not abuse each other here in name of patriotism or hatred to particular country/community. To be honest, I want Australia build its own cars and sell in Australia and even abroad. It has plenty of natural resources (iron ore, lithium reserves) but the government doesn't give a damn to boost manufacturing here and keep selling naked natural resources to China and other countries to make value added products (Steel, LI batteries, EV, etc). Government doesn't offer tax incentive to big corporations to boost manufacturing in Australia using it's own natural resources - solar, lithium, etc. It's subjective whether this suv is a bargain or to have suv in this price range which can compete with Chinese SUV and other big SUV makers. If product is worth it, it will sell especially if it has good price to performance ratio and bang for a buck.

So true, think back the early days of Hyundai and Kia especially, they were once considered junk and inferior to Australia made Holden and Ford, as well as Japanese manufacturers of Toyota and Mazda etc.
Personally had a Kia Sportage for over 10 years, not a single issues at all. Not saying Mahindra is a great car, but given the current economic climate, it does offer a very compelling case for potential buyers.
Let see how it fares in a few years time

      • OR SAMSUNG.

      • And Honda before them. Old playbook.

Cheap car priced keenly to enter the market. Slowly go more premium and switch to more margin.

  • +9

Like all the Chinese brands cars currently. Everyone who thinks they know so much about cars will say they're crap.

But the price and manufacturers ability to make them available to the public will dictate the sales. Which is why we are seeing so many byd, Saic, gwm cars on the road. Lots of people who would otherwise not chose them have had to buy them because other manufacturers have decided to go down the "low stock, high price" route.
And once someone invests $30k in something, they're not going to continue to think they're terrible. They'll tell everyone it's good value and they've had no issues.

Same shit happened in the 80s when the Japanese manufacturers came into play with cheaper cars and everyone called them "jap crap" with the same baseless claims in this thread.

$37k for a 7 seater with Australian warranty for 7 years is an insane deal. It doesn't matter if it's built in India, China, Kazakhstan or Timbuktu. People will buy it because competitive pricing always wins.

    • +1

same reasons why people buy cheap shit from Kmart.

  • Why?

    I wouldn't drive a 7 seater with children in the back row……

  • +3

Never buy the first generation, let someone else do the testing for you.

    • +1

There's 3 Mahindra xuv models before this one

    • +1

Buying this is akin to being an Australian conditions alpha tester.

  • -2

Too expensive and i dont likw it

    • +2

      thanks for letting us know.

  • Is this better than Haval?

  • Would rather buy Australian SUVs

    • +1

      are there any?

    • +1

Are there any Australian made SUVs still there?

      • there..there..

    • Holden Adventra.

Remember those? The one that no one wanted.

  • If I had to buy a shitbox, which I don't, I'd probably take my chances with a Haval

  • +1

Lots of downvotes. I thought all of you middle class types idolized SUVs. It's your class status symbol.

  • +5

Mahindra, king of Indian roads, now here to rule on Australian terrain.
I had Mahindra Scorpio while was in India and did an entire North India off roading.

Xuv500 was my other city car back home, amazing features.
Never was a dull moment with my above cars.

Now unleashing XUV700 to get some love from down under.
You may hate, but it's here to stay

  • -2

    Looks like a Garbage truck!!

    • +2

      eyes of the beholder

  • Thanks!
    Bought 2

  • +1

The irony of this is, those who are voting up the deal wont buy it either and it will reflect in the sales on this model. Believe you me.

    • +2

So is it a rule that you have to buy a product if you upvote the deal?

      • And hence proved that so called patriotism is as hollow as the upvote on the deal.

        • +2

Didn't know this was a poll on patriotism… Hateful ideology makes people say things which don't really make sense.

    • +2

I won't be buying this car… Not because its an Indian or Chinese car but because i am not in the market for a car. If i was , i would definitely have.

Last time during an India trip , happened to see a few of these. If it can stand the road of India, Australian condition is a cakewalk. Also Mahendra makes cars for Indian Army esp for north, Himalaya region, desert use. So it cant be as bad as Tesla for sure

  • +4

I like it because its not a crappy TESLA deal for once

  • +12

I think its really funny how we Aussies talk bad about the car from China or India, when we dont even have a bicycle factory here. And we boast about Euro and Japanese car as if we made it. We had Holden, but we couldn't hold it for long.

Reminds me of those who take the (biological) paternity of someone else's kids… :)

    • +1

I don't understand your last sentence, how can someone become the biological father of someone else's kids?

    • So you are saying you need to know how to build a car to enjoy a car? I dont cook, but i cant admire good food?

Also Chinese and Indian people boast about their european and Japnese cars like they made it too 😁

  • +2

This car looks quality! and priced well

Its a little smaller than its closest competitor LDV D90. What do you guys think

    • +3

Make you buy a mechanic to go with it. No different to buying a Alfa Romeo.

Have you been to India or lived there? Do you know their work ethic etc? ;)

      • No i have not owned an alfa before nor visited India. But most of the stuff i use are from India, China, Bangladesh, Vietnam

  • +6

One of my Indian mates' family or someone owned a mahindra dealership in India. When I just showed this post to him, although he already knew, his reaction was meh..They apparently had to give up the dealship due to constant complaints and very low margin.

He said starting from their mopeds like mahindra duro to SUVs like scorpio, they simply suck.

  • Wish they brought the AWD version here. Wouldn't be worried about depreciation if you get it under a novated lease. Most of Mahindra's dealerships in NSW are based rurally so finding a place to service isn't that hard at least for me. I honestly think Indian and Chinese manufacturers have come a long way in terms of reliability otherwise there will be no way they will give a seven year warranty on their cars lol. This car isn't a bargain at this price but a good deal for someone looking for a medium sized SUV with a limited budget

  • Took one for a test drive. It automatically swung out to the right for a sec when I put the left blinker on, and vise versa.

  • Glad to see someone trying to bring down the price, 37K is a reasonable price but it is not real beat too much from other company yet.

If I need to buy a resonable price 7 seats SUV, i will try the last year CX8, new base model drive away is around 41-44k. At least have better resellable value and repair possibility.

    • It will last a couple of years. Make sure you buy a mechanic with it.

      • Would be cheaper to import one on 457 visa.

        • Maybe. But factor in the cost though. Just go buy a RAV4 or Mazda/Honda.

    • i test drive CX8 and price starts with $46k not 41k so not sure where you get your figures but go to Mazda website and check yourself… !

Obviously, with Mahindra in ground I won't be surprise if it forces Toyota & Mazda lower their prices which is good for Australian consumer .. !

      • My friends just got his base model last month, waitting time around 1 month. It is a 2022 version, not the 2023, 2023 mazda did some mid-gen update to cx8, but not much difference form the last year model. You can check with your local dealer.

        • Two week ago Mazda cx8 waiting Time around… 2-3 months .. !

Mazda base model which is 46k don't include all those tech features provided by Mahindra.. !

Mazda was my choice but price difference with added tech plus interior plus free colour choices made it easy for me to get Mahindra.. !

    • +1

I think you have to be nuts to pay $37k when the Mazda is $41-44k.

The extra surely would be worth it for quality, resale value, ease of reselling, and repairing. If the Mahindra was in the early $30k, that might be a bit tempting (not for me personally!) to those on a budget.

  • Has anyone here actually ridden or driven a TATA bus?

  • Guys, Just buy that BYD Atto3 rather than this one. At least you will have a crappy battery when your ATTO3 breaks down or rusts.

  • -2

    Just vomited 🤮

  • Lol @ Sci-Fi Technology.

    • Missed AI buzzword

  • Interesting to see so many (Indian) upvoters trying to prop up this junk just because its made in India. The reason this company has survived in India for so long is because;
    a) Their local warranty is as worthless as their cars,
    b) Labour is cheap to fix all those consistently failing cheap parts, and finally,
    c) Local people are used to such stuff and expect it to fail, so few bother to complain

    • +1

Absolutely true. Mahindra is another name for trash in Hindi.

  • +2

So much debacle over this car in comments section and its like a family reunion >.<

Having originated from a nearby country my experience with these sorts of vehicles is not so good. They make sense when you have access to cheap labour where things break down often and you have readily available and affordable mechanics and parts. May not be the case around here, but only time will tell how well they age.

Am I going to get one if I was in the market? Absolutely NO.

    • -1

lol … the vehicle that you buy currently are made in countries where labor is cheap … LOL

So basically which australian made vehicle you buy now ? none exist .. !

if you are Toyota or Mazda dealer posting crap in a fear of big discount you will end-up giving to working class aussie mom & dad then you better start that quickly .. !

      • Labour is cheap in Japan? News to me.
No, they actually have highly automated production lines that pump out precision-manufactured, high quality vehicles.
Also, it's "mum". Likewise with your comment below, "damn" and "planet". Not to mention your punctuation, eek.

      • +2

I dont think you understand the difference between manufactured in x country vs a product owned, operated and produced from x country. so i rest my case.

End of the day, like I said only time will tell how good these vehicles will last in this climate, roads and other factors.

  • +1

It's very hard for a car company to be profitable if they target the cheap car segment in Aus. You see all the cheap car brands going up market for a reason. Chinese car companies can do it because they have the state behind their back and endless capital. Tata is rich but it's still a business. If it can't turn a profit in Aus, they'll bail and RIP to the resell value. And that's another reason to spend your money elsewhere. If you are already dropping nearly 40k for a car, surely it makes sense to spend a bit more for better reliability, features, warranty, dealer network, and resell value. Plenty of Ute based 7 seaters for around 45-50k and 7 seater CRV/Outlander for around 40k.

    • +2

Tata doesn't manufacture this vehicle, Mahindra does. But I get your point.

    • +1

lol .. Mahindra is making cars since 1949 … so they existing on this planet (probably before many of the commenter here born) almost 74 Years and they are in Australia since 2007 so almost 15 years and going strong introducing more robust and technology driven vehicles… !

But if you are one of those Toyota or Mazda dealer posting crap in a fear of big discount you will end-up giving to working class aussie mom & dad then I understand your comment … !!!!

      • longevity only gives you a more reliable assessment of their quality.. and given their reputation locally and abroad I think that speaks for itself, would you take a mahindra over a Kluger if cost and availability wasn't an issue? if you say yes then we know you are not entirely objective

        • +1

No one will buy anything but Ferrari if cost wasn't the issue between Kluger and Ferrari … ! So it's all about value not cost or availability … !

Here is something from NZ Racetrack..

          https://youtu.be/CYF6PqsDba0

          • +1

@SydBoy: that's fair but whilst that may be true at 8x the cost it is a much less compelling proposition at 2-30% discount compared to 7 seaters like mazda CX-8, Nissan X-trail, Tiguan Allspace, all with much better aftercare and service networks and availability of parts. it may work for some people but i'd rather buy a 3 year old model of the above for the same money

            • -1

@May4th: Everyone has choice and opinion but linking it to country of manufacturing is nothing but pure racist … !

I drove CX 8 last week as I was going to buy that over Mahindra and Nissan X-Trail but Mahindra introductory offer which to me is around 4k to 6k cheaper from full price plus all the gadgets with leather seats and other functions which you probably get at $60k+ model in Mazda or Toyota… makes Mahindra ultra super value propositions …. so real price difference between Mahindra top model and equivalent Mazda/Nissan/Hyundai/Kia/Toyota with similar features will be in excess of 10k to 20k or may be more … In my opinion and hence I bought this just waiting for delivery now .. !

              • +1

@SydBoy: I'd hope nobody is discounting them based on country of origin alone, like the koreans/japanese cars of the 80s if Mahindra proves themselves I'd be open to giving them a try, there's definite value proposition at that price point with the inclusions, as with some of the chinese SUVs there are some favourable reviews but I'd stick with a tried and tested product until then but that's just my preference

  • +3

wow this turned ugly quick… what has OZB come down to these days… LOL

  • +1

It looks fine to me. People are overreacting by saying the vehicle looks hideous.

    • +1

It is fugly from the front. Looks OK side-on If I was given it for free, I'd drive it but only if it came in white.

    • +2

Agree looks like any other SUV. Too big, too heavy, too compromised dynamically, too pointless. They're all just worse wagons.

      • lol … what is defination of TOO BIG/ TOO HEAVY/TOO COMPROMISED DYNAMICALLY ? .. lol

        • +1

          SUV

  • Ugly as hell

    • It looks like a normal SUV to me….
Is there an SUV that you consider to be gorgeous in a similar price range?

    • Remove coloured glasses .. :) 😂

  • +2

Not sure this classifies as a 'deal'

  • What price does it go up to after August for both variants? I.e. how far off is this from the “normal” price to make it a “deal”?

  • +1

I'm digging people who think any SUV is "attractive". Who cares, they're all just the fridge equivalent of a car anyway. Noone is looking and dreaming of your suv. They're all simply an automotive appliance.

  • +2

Looks like plenty of Nissan, Hyundai, Toyota, Mazda, Kia dealers spending their Friday evening making last attempt to stop the storm coming their way when majority customers (who know what is value & who is looking for premium features at dam reasonable price) …turn to Mahinda.. !

However, remember Mahinda was on planate earth since 1949 and they entered Australian Market in 2007 .. !!

    • What's the difference between Hyundai, Toyota, Mazda, etc dealers VS Mahindra dealer? A same dealer can sell any of the brand. It's unlike Tesla that skip dealership altogether right?

  • 7 year warranty

or 15,000km which works out to be 58km per day

    • +2

geezus, who drives that much in WFH world?!

    • lol … Bii .. I suggest use calculator as it will give better idea on 150,000 / 7 = 21428 km per year .. !

      • 58km per day

Bii .. I suggest use calculator

I think Bil has gone the extra step of going from year to day. May be your calculator needs an upgrade? 😳

        • May be you need to read comment again…!

Bii said " or 15,000km " where does 15,000 comes from?

          • @SydBoy: Can’t you figure out it may have been a typo? In the website it says 150,000km / 7 years.

            That gives 58km a day.

            🤷‍♂️

            • @kaleidoscope: Can't you figure out my comment was for yearly calculation not daily so my calculator works fine 😂😂

  • +2

I heard petrol cars are going to have huge price drop due to electric cars will rule the world soon.
