Yes but basically it means dont hold onto it for a year or longer ? As initially i had thought of just using it when i need but it sounds like i should use it asap. I guess instead of my normal cards whenever possible.

        • yes plus you are increasing the chance of it being hacked or you just forgetting about them.

Best way is to convert them into coles/ww gc and pay into your utility for the next 6 month.

    • +1

You can't compare the returns like that since the home loan is an accumulated return over 365 days, and this is an instant return after spending on something like an essential living expense.

    • -1

How do you use it for your homeloan?

      • I meant the savings on this vs keeping the cash in your loan / offset account to save on interest.

      • You can't, you would need to swap them out for cash. That being said, if you managed to find a method to buy 200k of these and swap it out for cash, you could pay off your home loan at a ~7.5% discount.

just used my 10 cards.. Worst luck all my utilities dont accept PayPal. So had to pay small fees on them all. But still a saving.

I do like the digital cards as you get the link that straight away checks the balance and can refresh it after doing a payment and it updates.

      saves fuel & time too.

    • did u try online PostBillpay

      • They should work with PostBillpay

  • Ordered at 9.15AM, order confirmation at 9.22AM, gift card email at 1.40PM

  • +1

With over 7K of clicks here and many going direct . The sales must be crazy with some people now going into 6 figures of CCs .

    • 6 figures

      People are spending 100k?

      • If I could pay off my mortgages with it I would! Then again, I can't actually manage to purchase any, so… there is that.

        • You are not alone. I bought one lot but failed to purchase any more after that. Used different credit card, different address, email. Just not working.

      • If i could, i would

      • +1

Yeah I'm going to leave CBA now, this is such poor service.

        • You're ditching a great bank over a stupid 10% off gift card? Pretty sure you'll regret that a whole lot more than they will.

          • @fuzor: It's more been the customer service than the gift card. I haven't needed to use them till now and they are lacking. 3 redirects, failed live chat feature. You cant even call from the app anymore and avoid manually entering your details…

You are right, I probably cost them money as a customer

            • @shap08: The big 4 experience. Mystery why people use them. I signed up to a small credit union.. Called up…and someone actually answered and helped. No pre recorded bs, no re direcct. Net banking was also much better than CBA. Ie.i wanted to simply name / put alias on my accounts..had to call up CBA to do it. Credit union..click three dots, give alias..done.

          • @fuzor: What's great about CBA? They're expensive and their customer service is woeful.

          • @fuzor: Nah, he is ditching CBA.

          • @fuzor:

            a great bank

Yeah that takes like 2 hrs to answer 1 single phone call,
Left them ages ago, Not looking at CBA again

Received 2x$250 at 1:26pm and used to purchase 5% off wish cards. phew

  • Any point in paying hecs today rather than tomrorow? I doubr the funds would clear in time

    • I was looking for a friend and I found an article where the ATO said should pay by Thursday or it might not be processed. I highly doubt it. Good way of using up the cards anyway. You might be able to argue your case with ATO if you call them (not sure).

    • If you are gonna pay it anyway then pay it today so you have a chance to argue with ATO

  • Tried like 10 different Amex cards, only 2 went through. Not sure how to buy more….

It’s been more than 4 hours for me and still waiting.

Cashout up to 3 gift cards for 30c each using ebay plus fvf offer

    • Can you give some details. I have no idea what you are talking about, I've never heard of it. thanks

      • +2

Selling an item to your "friend".

        • Ahhhh

    • That is a good idea.

    • Is this against eBay T&Cs? If it is, think its a lot of work and risk for $50 or so

      • I don't see how it would be. Who's going to be checking anything if the transaction goes smoothly anyway?

I've already done 3 today, will do 3 more tomorrow when the offer resets.

        • +1

Did similar thing years ago and got banned couple of month later so just caution.

    • +1

What if the ATO starts asking for its 10% GST + profit?

  • Ordered at 9:28 with AMEX with mobile.
    Just received all 10 :D

  • I'm gonna resist. I'm trying to think of ways I'd spend maybe 1k but can't think of anything.

    • +2

The general vibe is that you would spend them on things that you can't avoid like council rates, insurances, taxes, groceries etc, effectively giving a 8-9% discount on these. So in that regard you don't need to 'think' of anything to spend as those expenses will come up without you thinking. (Edit: looked at someone elses math, about 7.5% discount actually)

  • Bought a couple this morning at 9 received about half an hour ago.

Tried a couple more just now, all payments getting rejected.

    • Were the all credit cards?

      • tried citi, westpac and cba cards. All rejected.

I got through fine this morning with citi.

        • Same here. Tried using different address, name won't work

          • @rrrrrrein: I did consider that it could be because i already bought some cards today. But it's strange that it'd reject me after i enter all my cc details.

I'll wait to see if anyone else has any luck

            • @jlien: Yes one transaction per customer. Not sure how to pretend to be "someone else"

              • @rrrrrrein: damn. i should've just bought more upfront.

              • @rrrrrrein: Second transaction worked fine for me with new email and card. Both cards Macquarie, no issues.

  • Anyone here purchased with a Bankwest credit card? Thinking I might not bother since they are owned by CBA and don't want to go through the nightmare experience some of the other guys here are having with a CBA card.

    • +1

      yes it worked

  • Thanks, bought 10x$250.

  • Tried, great!

  • No problems with Amex cards

    • +2

Don't think problems we are having are card issue blocking cards. My first transaction with Amex was fine. After that tried many times all failed even after card verification successful. Contacted Amex and WBC and was told they couldn't see any failed transactions from their end so they thought it was merchant's processing system rejected the transactions. Make senses to me. But don't know who to believe.

  • Okay has anyone actually been able to buy a Woolworths GC using PayPal after loading some of these?

    • +1

Yep, after linking with paypal I used one to pay $249.99 for a $260.40 gift card (thanks to the additional 4% off).

      • Thanks mate. So this one is definitely worth it then. Effective (4+7.5)% discount off Woolworths when stacking. (+ Targeted Offers + Everyday Extras)

      • +2

        Why not $260.41?

        • +1

ah, I have much to learn

          • +1

@Malleeroot: Amount of the virtual CC, divided by 1 - (percent discount/100).
            So 4% means 0.96, 250/0.96 = 260.4166666666667 (then round down after 2 decimals).

          • @TanedaR: Incorrect. $260.41 does the trick.

            See https://imgur.com/a/Ag8U8UE :)

            • @YesPleaseThankYou: you're right, for some reason they overcharge 0.7 cents lol

            • @YesPleaseThankYou: How did you manage to buy so many without WW failing the transaction?
              Any tips

              • +6

                @johnmelb: Pay via PayPal.

Don't make more than 2 Woolworths gift card purchases per hour if you don't want the Woolworths system to block you. (Even if blocked, it resets after an hour automatically.)

      • Where are you buying from for the additional discount?

        • +1

From the giftcard portal via woolworths mobile. I've also used the RACV giftcard portal before.

        • +1

NRMA Blue. They had a free 12-month offer
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/768431

Failing that, StudentEdge also has one, need to sign up with an EDU email address I think.

      • How and where did you get $260.40 woolworths gc?

    • +2

I linked one card to PayPal and bought a Woolies gift card and it worked fine. I then linked another $250 card to PayPal but that Woolies transaction failed (payment still taken). So I now have to wait up to 30 days to receive refund back on the card.

      • Right okay, that's concerning. Maybe you can only do 1 before it gets flagged for fraud. Thanks heaps for the callout.

        • So update for me. My refund is already back on my digital card. I took the gamble and used it to again to buy a Woolies gift card via paypal and this time it worked. I am on a different IP address so not sure if that helped.

          • @Slo20: I also saw the refund, tried with same IP and working now.
Just wondering if I should wait for second transaction or just go for it..

            • @johnmelb: Least the refund was quick. I’m still waiting on a PayPal refund through my normal credit card and it’s been 7 days so far and PayPal FAQ’s say some banks can take up to 30 days to process so I was planning for the worse.

              • +1

@Slo20: I remember last time refund took a few days (paypal and physical coles prepaid-CC), so I was surprised it was so quick now.

      • Interesting, maybe i'll hold off trying to buy more then.

      • +2

Can confirm, 3rd payment via WW GC failed for me too.
I remember this happened last time too, but I wanted to try again anyway.

        Order Refund

Unfortunately, we are unable to complete your request for order #203…..

        We apologise for the inconvenience.

A refund has been issued to your PayPal account and may take up to 10 business days for the funds to appear.

        • For those wondering: don't try via a second paypal account, just did that and it failed again.
I only have 1 WW mobile to get the 4% discount, so it must be the WW system that is making the transaction fail.

        • So did the first one work without any issues? Thinking I might just try 1x the $250.

      • -1

        Yeah it's a hassle!

    • just did it via paypal

  • +2

It’s been more than 4 hours for me and still waiting.

    • ended up receiving them 4h:18m

  • So I got my receipt, how long does it take for them to actually send you the cards? Only bought 4

    • +1

I bought 5 about 3.5 hours ago and still waiting. There seems to be a delay compared to this morning

  • +1

no matter what else i do, new mob, new name, new address and card, nothing works.
do i need to hide my IP??

    • i bought 20 so far

      • +1

you are not alone - I got 15pcs.

I keep trying to buy, it just doesnt work. everything new, even with new computer, different ip - different cards, it just not working at all. frustated

        • Same here
Decide to try tomorrow if not oos

    • Lucky you! I've tried all my devices and BOQ/ING/WBC cards - no luck, passes OTP verification then fails the transaction.

      • ANZ cba westpac try different cards different person, all no go through! Anyone’s same like me ?
