Free 12-Month NRMA Blue Membership Trial (New Members Only, Usually $60) @ NRMA Parks & Resorts

Saw this terrific offer from NRMA Parks & Resorts over the weekend. I have the Discovery membership but noticed this one has lots of savings as well. Depends if you go to these Parks to use the accommodation discount, but still seems worth it to use it free for a year (normally $60) and get the 15c/l off fuel discount, plus other discounts. Can’t see an end date. but says hurry, offer valid for a limited time only.

Cheers. Signed up predominantly because it's free, but I do like the NRMA park in Merimbula, so may come in handy.

  • thanks!

  • thanks OP

Question 15 cents off a litre"next time you fuel up". It seems to be just a one off offer as their membership Page only stipulates 5 cents off at ampol

    • +5

If you look at the offer page, it confirms this is a once-off offer:

The Amplify Premium Fuels bonus offer can only be used for one (1) fill and valid for 21 days.

    • +1

Yep. Was interested but not going to do it for a 1 time fuel discount.

      • +1

There’s discounted gift cards - which could be useful

  • +2

Thanks OP, Ampol discount is handy, think it might stack with Woolworths fuel voucher + 4% discounted Ampol gift cards as well.

    • +1

Does not stack with woolies fuel discount. Note this appears to be a system constraint - only one discount applies.

      • I thought the POS system would let you stack the myNRMA fuel discount with the Woolworths fuel voucher, but you would need to find a staff member willing to let you stack the two offers (and that is not easy in my experience). It is against the terms of the myNRMA fuel discount to stack it with another fuel discount offer, so staff are well within their right to refuse to let you stack. Or was there a recent change to the POS system to block stacking of one Ampol partner discount (e.g. myNRMA, myHyundai, myToyota) with one Woolworths fuel voucher?

I know you cannot stack two Ampol partner discounts, because the Ampol POS system will automatically remove one of the discounts.

        • +3

Yep I tried a number of different stations before finding an attendant who would let me scan both codes. My happiness was short lived when I checked the receipt to find only 1 discount being applied. Confirmed with the woolies app that the fuel voucher wasn’t redeemed

          • +1

@bfg100k: Damn, sounds like a recent change! Thanks for the intel, I’ll update the fuel discounts wiki to reflect that.

Btw, I do not know whether Ampol service stations on mainland Australia (at least the ones not operated by EG) actually deduct a fuel discount voucher when you present your Everyday Rewards card to claim the Woolworths fuel discount. I know at TAS Ampol service stations accepting the Woolworths fuel discount, you can claim a 6c/L discount simply by showing your Everyday Rewards card.

            • If there is no fuel discount on your card, you still get the discount.
            • If there is a fuel discount on your card, it will not actually be redeemed.
            • +1

@WookieMonster: Ampol Retail Pty Ltd stations on the mainland that do redeem Woolworths 4c EDR vouchers will 'redeem' on their Woolworths EDR account.

For those grabbing printed receipts, it generally prints out "Your next fuel discount will expire on x/x/2023" above the "Woolworths (Everyday) Rewards Card accepted", and redeems/removes a Fuel Discount from the count on the EDR app when used at a participating Ampol Foodary or Ampol Woolworths MetroGo on the mainland.

There is also the 'offline' account redemption (i.e. will accept but will not redeem from the EDR account) if the network link between the Ampol POS systems and the Woolworths EDR systems is down.

              • @abr83: Aha, that’s good to know!

I suspect the way in which Ampol Retail Pty Ltd stations in TAS currently handle the redemption of the Woolworths fuel discount is actually a hangover from the original implementation of the Woolworths fuel discount for EDR in TAS, because it was implemented in 2016, well before EDR was rolled out in TAS in late 2020. I suspect no one at Ampol has got around to changing this, because TAS Ampol (and TAS EG Ampol) is still excluded from EDR, so it is probably easier to give out fuel discounts for free than work out how to redeem fuel discounts from EDR accounts without giving out EDR points.

TAS Ampol receipts do not say anything on the bottom:

"Your next fuel discount will expire on x/x/2023" above the "Woolworths (Everyday) Rewards Card accepted"

… but the discount still appears on the receipt as a Woolworths fuel discount.

          • @bfg100k: I heard people stacking the RACV discount with Woolworths voucher + in store purchase discount to get a cumulative discount of 14%. This could then be further stacked with a 3% discounted EG Ampol voucher from a partner such as Student Edge. So do they allow it stack with Woolworths fuel voucher for the RACV discount but not the NRMA Blue discount?

            • +1

@rekke: You are referring to EG Ampol. EG Ampol is an Ampol franchisee, so it has its own set of fuel discounts (and rules on how you can redeem them).

              • The RACV discount is exclusive to EG Ampol.

              • The Woolworths fuel discount is available at all EG Ampol service stations and around 200 Ampol Foodary / Ampol Woolworths MetroGo service stations.

              • The instore purchase discount is available at EG Ampol (and maybe other Ampol franchisees), but I am not aware of any instore purchase discounts at Ampol Foodary / Ampol Woolworths MetroGo.

              • The 3% discounted EG Ampol gift card is only redeemable at EG Ampol.1

              • If you are paying instore at EG Ampol, you can stack one Woolworths fuel voucher with one EG Club / Partner Discount (e.g. RACV, Origin Energy) and the instore spend discount offer and you can then pay for your transaction using gift cards (e.g. WISH gift cards, EG Ampol gift cards, AmpolCash physical gift cards).

The discussion above about the myNRMA discount is actually in relation to discount offers at Ampol Foodary / Ampol Woolworths MetroGo. These locations are operated by Ampol themselves (i.e. they are not franchise locations), so they have different rules on redemptions when compared with EG Ampol and its fuel discounts.

If you want to read up on all the different discount offers at Ampol Foodary / Ampol Woolworths MetroGo, EG Ampol, and other Ampol franchisees, have a look at the fuel discounts wiki.

              1. Btw, it may make more sense to use discounted AmpolCash physical gift cards as a payment method at EG Ampol instead of EG Ampol gift cards, as they are currently being sold at 5% off at participating Ampol locations

  • Looks it is only for new signups

My NRMA extended another year for free if you are an existing user https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/760949

      • +1

Does it give you another 12 months from today? Or another 12 months from when your existing membership expires?

Eg if mine expires in Oct will it be another 12 months from Oct or Today?

        • From October.

          • +1

@timliu1996: I get this after filling out the form:

"Our records tell us that you're already an NRMA member.

            Please call 13 11 22 for assistance."

            • @Moo Deng: Me too

            • @Moo Deng: It was an auto free 12 months renew to me, I didn't do anything.
Deal said it was targeted but I don't get it why they target

            • @Moo Deng: well I click the link here and join with the same email/phone number as last year one, it creates a new account for me. now I have 2 :(

          • @timliu1996: Mine expires on OCT too,
Before the due date how to cancel the membership? Is need to call NRMA?
Otherwise they auto renewed debit the money?

            • +1

@Kathiepink: How do they debit though? Didn't ask for any payment info

              • @hanofee: Thanks for let me know, I just forgot when sign up need to enter the bank details or no

            • @Kathiepink: It just auto expire, since it was free signup so no credit card info was entered, I got an email back in Feb says my membership is overdue but nothing happened

              • @timliu1996: You one signup on Oct, but you received email on Feb says your membership is overdue? Surprise!

                • @Kathiepink: I signed up in Jan 2022, expired Jan 2023, and was offered free extension in March 2023 but it extended from Jan 2023.

The Oct expire was @JHoliday haha

  • :) thanks op

  • +4

This offer is valid until 31 May 2023.

    In the T&C

  • +1

I did this the last time it was offered, but nothing ever came of it ?

Just signed up again, and no confirmation email has come through

    • I just signed up for the first time (so that I can get discount for car insurance later), been couple of minutes, no emails yet.

    • +3

I didn't receive anything either but i was able to sign in using the sms code and then was able to resend the email to activate account. Try it. See how you go.

      • That worked, thank you

        • Hmm no emails for me either - how did it work for you?

        • Yep did this too thanks

    • I got a confirmation email with a member number, but no account activation email. Did the "forgot password" thing and was able to set up a password and log in.

  • Damn, no parks in WA :/

  • +2

After the first 12 months, reverts to full price of $60 per year
    Just remember to cancel.

    • +5

You don’t enter any payment details

I signed up for the free membership last time, and they just tell you to pay and send you an email

    • yep confirm no payment details required

  • +1

Last time I signed up for this, they harassed me to no end asking me to renew when the membership expired. Constant letters, emails and calls saying renewal was overdue. Was a really poor experience.

    • +9

Soooo don't use your real details? Companies don't give out free memberships to be charitable lol. You agreed to be spammed in one of the boxes you ticked.

      • Is a real number required when signing up?

        • Yes. Usually their login via email is buggy. So other option is code sent to your number.

        • Not sure. Just get a free virtual number online or Boost SIM you get paid to activate.

    • Isn't that kinda to be expected?
Like, the only reason companies give out free membership periods is in hopes that you'll renew.

If they start contacting you to renew, ask them to remove your contact info and cease all communications.
      That usually works.

    • +7

They sent me a few emails, but I had no billing info on file, then a month after it expired they emailed saying I got a free 12 months.

    • +1

I get like 1 or 2 emails when nearing renewal so may be just adjusting some subscription tick boxes?

    • Says " We may contact you to manage your NRMA Membership and to provide you with information and offers from the NRMA and our subsidiaries. You can alter your consent at any time"

If you don't want to be contacted just withdraw consent as per their policy?

    • Well, if it's free, you are the product

  • +1

Already have RACV which has very similar benefits. Plus having to cancel and the potential to be nagged to renew is making me say no thanks.

  • +1

15c off only on Amplify Premium Fuels

    • +3

After looking at the full terms and conditions of this offer, I am not so sure:

The bonus fuel offer is a 15 cent per litre discount which applies to Premium fuels and includes Amplify Premium Unleaded 98, Amplify Premium Unleaded 95, Amplify Premium Diesel; and 15 cents per litre on Regular fuels and includes Unleaded, E10 and Diesel.

I think this part of the terms and conditions is actually a typo, because it seems like no one proof-read the terms and conditions. The next part of the terms and conditions state:

      The bonus fuel offer:

      a) is only available at participating Ampol locations. For participating locations, visit mynrma.com.au/Ampol;

      b) is not available at Ampol service stations;

      Lol what?

      • Was tempted to sign up to take advantage of the 15c off…but usable only once. hmm…

      • n̶o̶t̶ only?

  • +4

This should also get you a 20% discount at Chargefox ultra-rapid EV charging stations - and a discount for whenever NRMA start charging for their own EV chargers at some point this year.

  • Is this useful for a Victorian?
    I already have RACV membership

    • Nope, got it last time for free and never used it. Articles/newsletters weren't interesting either. Maybe useful if you plan to travel to NSW.

    • From what I've heard/seen the perks from NRMA Blue seem to be quite similar to the perks you get from RACV.

  • +2

On the page of the free membership, there's another link said "Save up to 25% on car insurance."
Does that mean I can get discounted car insurance after becoming a member of NRMA?

  • So I signed up in a free promotion a few years back. Got the renewal notice in December and just ignored it. Feb rolls around and they just renewed my membership for free

  • This is the same free membership from another deal and which they recently renewed for free, so don't sign up if you already have

  • Anyone know before the expire date how to cancel the membership? Is must need to call to cancel?
Otherwise they debit the money automatically?
(I forgot when signup need to fill in the bank details or no)

    • You didn't need to provide a payment method during sign up.

      • Thanks for let me know :)

  • +2

Will this work for ChargeFox 20% discount? Might benefit the EV users out there

    • +1

Yes it does. I've used it

  • Signed up last time. Didn't get an email or SMS.
Signed up again, no email or sms so far. Don't have any expectations.

    • I didn’t receive email but just an sms with my member number. Did u get that?

I just signed in with my mobile number and then I received the welcome email. Maybe try that.

      • Just got the SMS, downloaded the app, tried logging in using my mobile and membership number, says invalid details lol

        • +1

Why? It was easy for me. Maybe create another account then?

  • Thank you very much!

  • Signed up - but can't see 15c, just 5c.

Where do I look in the app for the 15c?

    • +1

According to the offer terms, you may need to wait:

The bonus fuel offer will take up to 5 working days from date of join. You will receive an SMS notification once the QR code is ready to access within my nrma app. The QR code is valid for 21 days only from the date it is issued.

      • Does it combine with the 4 cent docket offer?

        • Based off a conversation further up, no.

The myNRMA discount is an Ampol partner discount, and the person in the linked comment reported that scanning both an Ampol partner discount and a Woolworths fuel discount in the same transaction will see one of the discounts automatically removed by the checkout.

          • @WookieMonster: That’s sad then. Miss out on the Woolworths points in that case.

            • +1

@unity1: I think what would happen is that if you have the Everyday Rewards card scanned first and then presented this Ampol partner discount, assuming the attendant lets you scan both, this Ampol partner discount should override the Woolworths fuel discount, because it is of higher value than the Woolworths fuel discount. However, I am not sure whether this is how Ampol has actually programmed their systems, because I have never been able to get an Ampol attendant to let me use both the Woolworths fuel discount and an Ampol partner discount.

Alternatively, if you have an Everyday Rewards card with no fuel voucher on it, you can claim Everyday Rewards points and then the Ampol partner discount at Ampol service stations on mainland Australia accepting both.

The problem is that you may have some Ampol attendants force you to choose between either Everyday Rewards points and Ampol partner discounts, even though this internal Ampol memo from this Ampol employee says that you can use both.

              • +1

@WookieMonster: I think it would be easier just to forfeit the points and get the $0.15 discount which is the better value. Thanks for the feedback.

                • +1

@unity1: Based on previous NRMA fuel offers at Ampol Foodary (last one was Aug 22):
                  1. You can't combine cents off offers
                  2. You still get Everyday reward points
                  3. You won't lose your EDR 4cpl discount if using the NRMA code.
                  As ever, YMMV

  • +2

Signed up 45 mins ago, no email or SMS yet.

    • Same here, no email. still waiting….

      • I did manage to register successfully using the sms way - from there i saw my member number

  • +1

Does anyone know where to find the 15c/litre promo in the app once you're logged in with a new account? 🤔

    • When it arrives it will be in notifications, or very likely also on the front page.

  • +1

Can't log into the app via mobile or member number/postcode. Also tried the website with email (forgot password) and member details. Anyone else?

    • Me too. I was told to wait for couple of hours and try again as it may take some time for new accounts to be activated.

  • +2

Had it for an year and never used a single offer. Useless.

    • I've also been using it for a year (sadly not free), and have saved money on car rentals, SkyBus tickets and insurance

  • Signed up last year and never used it… But it's free.
