UK flights had a stop in Bangkok too when we went, though that was years ago so don't know if they still do.

          • @Pobman: Germany flight goes via Taipei, Bangkok, london, and maybe somewhere else on top

    • +5

4 stops if heading to Germany. Absolutely horrible. Decent enough flights to paris

You can space out your journey, with less jet-lag on the body
and also, get to experience a 'new place' during the transit stops.

        • +1

          With 2 hour transits?

          • +1

@belongsinforums: It's obvious that 2-hour transits are practical for a stop-over, but I prefer creating itineraries with a substantial amount of hours for a transit stop.

      • +3

Agreed, the boarding/deboarding process 4 times for 1 destination? No thank you.

      • +3

Fly to Austria instead, it's practically Germany.

  • Love EVA, especially the Hello Kitty plane. One of the most fun flights ever

Hey OP, what’s the chances for similar pricing over the Christmas school holidays? Is it possible? Any tips for finding flights to Europe at that time?
    Thanks

    • +1

Zero, buckley's and none. EVA isn't a budget carrier, these specials are advertised for a reason.

    • It’s peak travel time. The airlines don’t need to discount to fill a plane then.

Best way to get them cheap is to book them early, or hold out until oct/nov and pray an airline has low occupancy and discounts to fill their plane (but there’s a very low chance of this happening)

Maybe not quite what you're after but EVA had cheap options flying out from around Jan 12 this year, returning early Feb and later, if you were up for kids missing a little bit of school. I booked mid June. 3 of us flew for about $3300 total. Think I ended up with a 6 week trip for 3 weeks of school missed.

  • Does anybody have any tips on how to extend the layover to become a stopover for >1 week? Does it have to be a multi-city booking then?

    • Yep, do it as a multi city. Generally anything longer than 24h isn’t a connection anymore.

  • +1

Thanks OP. I'm going to UK/Europe in July, everything I've found so far has been 3K plus. With this I'll get over much cheaper.

Just flown last month from BNE to London and back from Paris to BNE. Good flight and comparable to any other full service airline. Hello Kitty aeroplane from Paris to Taipei was fun for the 4 year old. Transit airport at Taipei is good too. Couple of downsides though, 1 - Taipei to London flight is via Bangkok and adds time to the journey for no good reason. 2 - seat selection is excessively expensive.

  • Would recommend a decent layover in Taipei.

I had a 18h layover (FCO-TPE-BNE - landed at 5:30am, flew at 11pm ish) on China Airlines and was able to get quite a bit packed into the day.

We left the airport around 6:30am by the time we passed immigration, replaced a bit and left our hand luggage in a locker, then we’re back at the airport by 8pm.

There’s a train from the airport to the city, and we managed to go to Taipei 101, climbed elephant mountain, did a walking tour, and had beef noodles. Definitely wasn’t a country on my to-do list before, but now I’m keen to go back (or have a longer stopover).
